Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located and fostered in Tennessee. FREE ADOPTION TO APPROVED HOME! Are you an active person looking for a dog to take running, hiking, biking, or train for agility? If you are, then you need to check out River! River is a playful, fun loving Boxer mix who is always ready to go. He is highly food and toy motivated, and loves to have a job to do. River has graduated from basic obedience class and knows the commands "place", "sit", "down", "stay", "wait", "leave it", "front", and "shake". He is house trained, crate trained, knows his table manners and is a baby-gate hurdle champion. He loves car rides, sleeping on the bed (when he's allowed), working on his training and playing with his doggie friends. A household with older children would be a good fit, as he is very active and excites easily. He would be best in a home with no cats, as he thinks it's great fun to chase them. River would be great for with someone who is experienced in dog training, he does well with consistency and loves to learn. River weighs around 50 pounds and comes already neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He is heartworm negative and on preventives for parasites. Still need a reason to make this boy your best buddy? Just look at that goofy smile and his adoring eyes! River would love to see his doggie school diploma hanging on your wall! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $150 in TN, $200 plus transportation fee for out of state adoptions. Take a good long glance at our gal Glory! She's a chestnut coated cutie with a contagious smile and one sweet amber eye. Glory is missing her left eye, but her senses are still sharp, especially when she's looking for someone to cuddle her up tight. We just think it makes her more unique and loveable! Glory is one gorgeous gal who is always smiling and simply loves attention from her foster family. She’s a 2 year old Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier Mix (we're guessing) who is an already full grown girl at about 60 pounds. Glory is a strong and wiggly one - she's so excited to see and smell the world that she may sometimes need a reminder to walk nicely on leash. She’s fully house trained, and she also enjoys playing with her canine foster siblings outside in the yard, but primarily just seeks out human pats and affection. She would however love a four-legged sibling of similar size and spunk to romp and play with. She is very well behaved and only chews on her toys. Glory is super sweet and would be a great companion for someone looking to pour lots of love and attention into her! We promise Glory will give back 110%, mostly in kisses and smiles! If you think you could give Glory a great forever home, please fill out an adoption application for her today! We think Acer is a winner of a pup and all he needs is your patience and love to help him come to a full bloom. He is from a litter of three puppies that were abandoned with their mother. Acer is the smallest but what he lacks in size he makes up for in his perky puppy personality. He weighs around 10 pounds and he and his siblings are about 2.5 months old. We think he is a German Shepherd / Mountain Cur mix by his beautiful brown markings. He’s a very playful boy who would enjoy lots of socialization and interaction in his new home. Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound / Toy Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This puppy is located and fostered in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $200 in TN, $250 plus transportation fee for out of state adoptions. Jeffrey is our bright-eyed 5 month old Italian Greyhound mix, who is as enthusiastic as he is entertaining.. This little guy is as quick as a wink and gets his exercise by darting and running about in the yard. (See his video.) He would flourish best if he had a forever home with a fenced in yard where he could run and play out all his puppy energies. Jeffrey weighs 15 pounds and is ever so cute with his long pointy nose and adorable stub tail. He is crate and house trained, as long as he gets enough play and potty time before bed. Jeffrey does well on a leash and enjoys visiting with his doggie foster siblings for a romp in the yard. He's a very happy boy and adores showing you appreciation with his little Greyhound hugs and kisses. If you feel Jeffrey is a perfect fit for your place, please let us know by applying to adopt him today! Location: Cookeville, TN
Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located and fostered in Crossville, Tennessee. SPONSORED (FREE) ADOPTION TO APPROVED HOME!! Weighing about 60 pounds, Drambuie, a beautiful, likely Boxer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix (it's a guess), grabs attention with his rich mahogany brindle and white coat, adorable underbite, and eagerness to learn. Almost five years old, "Buie" is boarding in an indoor/outdoor rescue kennel in Crossville (TN). He gets along great with people (though is probably a bit rowdy for small children), has very high energy, needs lots of exercise, and plays hard with some dogs (may not be friendly with others). We would suggest he be the only family pet (no other dogs or cats). He loves to splash in his wading pool, runs full steam ahead for the pure joy of running (fenced yard required), and delights in games of fetch and tug-of-war (he's learning to "release" and practicing 30+ other obedience and trick skills, including heel, sit, down, stay, shake hands, spin, catch, "find it", and beg). He has been fully vetted, vaccinated, microchipped, and is on preventives for fleas, ticks, heart worms and other internal parasites. Great in a car (no whining or pacing), he is crate-, house-, and leash-trained; and he's a gentleman for the vet. His food- and praise-motivation makes him a special delight to work with. Buie is looking for a family to love, train and play with him. Since his ancestry is of such a strong breed, continuation of training is a must. Will you give this exuberant adult a chance at a sunny future? If your family has experience with strong breeds and a love for the high-energy, fast-learning temperament, Buie is your boy!
