Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located and fostered in Tennessee. FREE ADOPTION TO APPROVED HOME! Are you an active person looking for a dog to take running, hiking, biking, or train for agility? If you are, then you need to check out River! River is a playful, fun loving Boxer mix who is always ready to go. He is highly food and toy motivated, and loves to have a job to do. River has graduated from basic obedience class and knows the commands "place", "sit", "down", "stay", "wait", "leave it", "front", and "shake". He is house trained, crate trained, knows his table manners and is a baby-gate hurdle champion. He loves car rides, sleeping on the bed (when he's allowed), working on his training and playing with his doggie friends. A household with older children would be a good fit, as he is very active and excites easily. He would be best in a home with no cats, as he thinks it's great fun to chase them. River would be great for with someone who is experienced in dog training, he does well with consistency and loves to learn. River weighs around 50 pounds and comes already neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He is heartworm negative and on preventives for parasites. Still need a reason to make this boy your best buddy? Just look at that goofy smile and his adoring eyes! River would love to see his doggie school diploma hanging on your wall! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

He's already housetrained, crate trained and loves to play at the dog park with other dogs and his favorite thing in the world (except his humans) is toys! He even has lived with a cat happily in the past. Russell is a handsome 4.5 year old Mountain Cur mix who weighs around 50 pounds. He is looking for his number one hero in life to make all his dreams a reality. Wow what a gal is Gigi! This girl has got it ALL! She is a 2 year old, 35 pound Pointer (we think) mix who deserves her very special forever! Gigi is doing absolutely fantastic in her foster home. She is walking well on a leash and goes for two walks a day with her canine foster siblings, and her foster mom says she doesn't pull or get easily distracted when friends come to walk with her. She is fully crate and house trained and sleeps well in her crate through the night. Gigi is also working on some basic training commands in her foster home and has already learned sit, come, down, wait, and off! She loves to fetch, play with her chew toys, and play outside with her foster siblings. She also loves kids, does well with cats and rides great in the car. Gigi seems like an all round picture perfect gal! We think you would fall in love fast upon first sight! One thing to know about Gigi is that she had an old injury to one of her feet, but it doesn't slow her down from running and playing at all! Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This puppy is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $175 if picked up in TN, $225 plus transport fee for out of state adoptions. Make magic happen by falling in love with the marvelous Marina! Marina is a beautiful, energetic, goofy and eager to please "luvabull" girl! She is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix and at 9 months old and 55 pounds, she is all about living life to the fullest. She has three favorite activities: eating, playing and snuggling. She gets along great with other dogs and will happily run and play with them, although she can get overly excited and display an exuberant play style right out of the gate. She enjoys fetching her toys and bringing them back for a little tug session. She is even learning to release on command, because she is always more than ready to fetch again. Marina enjoys running through the woods and splashing through the streams on her foster family's property. She loves to ride shotgun in her foster dad’s side-by-side (ATV). She is now housetrained and has learned to sit on command. This girl is highly motivated by treats and toys and, like most pups her age, Marina would benefit from some basic obedience training. She is good on a leash but will pull hard if walking with other dogs that are ahead of her. Marina is a sweetheart, and a very human-oriented baby who is happiest when she can be by your side. When left to her own devices, Marina gets mischievous. She needs experienced and understanding new owners and would probably do best in a home with a bully savvy owner, older children (10+) and a big fenced in yard allowing for plenty of playtime and daily exercise. She is curious of cats and likes to nuzzle in for a good sniff, so a dog-savvy cat would probably be best. Show her some love and affection, and she will show you her appreciation for years to come! Marina is house trained, crate trained, up to date on vaccinations, spayed and ready to meet her forever family. Apply to adopt her today! Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). This puppy is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $225 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out of state adoptions. Looking for a 90 pound lap dog? Super cute and over-the-top fuzzy, that's our girl Nola! She's a Great Pyrenees (mix?), furry and full of fun with lots of love. At 10 months old Nola weighs about 90 pounds and is ready to play! She thinks she's belongs in your lap and has no idea of her own size! She is good with other dogs and cats and loves to play. She enjoys her chew toys and is happy to have your attention and pets. Nola would do excellently with bigger kids as she is still a youngster, but will certainly need more training on her manners. She is already crate trained and house trained. Nola is very fun-loving and sweet giant breed puppy who desires lots of love and attention. She will be an extra large girl when fully grown so hopes for a family ready for all the love that comes with her! This big goofy girl requires a home with a securely fenced yard and experience with the Great Pyrenees breed and all that entails. If you think Nola will fit in with you and yours then apply to adopt her today! She is waiting to launch her fluffy self right onto your lap and into your heart! Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located and fostered in Crossville, Tennessee. SPONSORED (FREE) ADOPTION TO APPROVED HOME!! Six-year-old Drambuie has been wishing for his own family for SO long, but he hasn’t given up! He’s still lively, loving, entertaining, and eager to learn whatever you want to teach him! His repertoire of tricks already includes sit, down, stay, come, high-five, shake hands, spin, heel (fast and slow), back up, wait, leave-it, sneak, get-in-your-bed, find-it, catch, and so many others. He loves to play fetch or tug with his rope toy, and he’s learning to release it on command. He doesn’t object when you put your hand in his food bowl, and he’s a gentleman when visiting the vet or getting a bath. He looks forward to the days of warm weather so he can splash in his wading pool. Buie wants to make up for all the attention he’s missed, so a home where he’s the only pet is a must. He enjoys car rides and is totally dedicated to his pet parent (may be a bit rowdy for small children). He just wants to be cherished. Weighing 61 pounds, fully vetted and vaccinated, neutered, house-trained, crate-trained, microchipped, and on preventatives for parasites, this sweet boxer mix is ready to become your newest best friend and smartest student. You just need to come meet him! If you are interested in this pet but have questions, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: http://aarf-tn.com/contact/pet-inquiry-form/.
