Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located and fostered in Tennessee. FREE ADOPTION TO APPROVED HOME! Are you an active person looking for a dog to take running, hiking, biking, or train for agility? If you are, then you need to check out River! River is a playful, fun loving Boxer mix who is always ready to go. He is highly food and toy motivated, and loves to have a job to do. River has graduated from basic obedience class and knows the commands "place", "sit", "down", "stay", "wait", "leave it", "front", and "shake". He is house trained, crate trained, knows his table manners and is a baby-gate hurdle champion. He loves car rides, sleeping on the bed (when he's allowed), working on his training and playing with his doggie friends. A household with older children would be a good fit, as he is very active and excites easily. He would be best in a home with no cats, as he thinks it's great fun to chase them. River would be great for with someone who is experienced in dog training, he does well with consistency and loves to learn. River weighs around 50 pounds and comes already neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He is heartworm negative and on preventives for parasites. Still need a reason to make this boy your best buddy? Just look at that goofy smile and his adoring eyes! River would love to see his doggie school diploma hanging on your wall! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

We sure are proud to be touting an MVP today, cause our guy is a real Champ! He is a Miniature Pinscher/Beagle mix and he's 2 years old and done with all his growing at 33 pounds strong. Email info@aarf-tn.com to check availability! This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $175 if picked up in TN, $225 plus transport fee for out of state adoptions. Simply adoring is our handsome hunk Adonis! He will absolutely make you melt with his sleek bi-color coat and his cool and caring copper eyes! Adonis is a 1 year old, 85 pound Rottweiler who might grow some yet, so he will be an x-large guy, but full of love from the tip of his neat nose to the ends of his pretty paws. His favorite thing in the whole world is to have you play fetch with him, he will go until his tongue is dragging. Adonis loves going on rides in the car and charms all of the passers by, he is an adult friendly dude who does not meet a stranger. He needs to be an only pet, as he prefers to be top dog in his home. Adonis would be a great dog for anyone with the time to give him all the love and affection he deserves. He's very affectionate and loves to show you by giving you a full body hug! A family able to work with him on his canine competencies would be preferred, we'd even suggest a local training program to get him up to speed, as he is one smart breed, and would enjoy it. He is already housetrained and is ready to learn more. Adonis would also do best in a home with only older children or teenagers because of his size and energy. We think Adonis is a terrific dog, who would simply soar in a perfect forever home. We hope you will fall as hard for this hunk as we have, and apply to adopt him today! Adoption Donation $225 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out of state adoptions. Winston is a baby boy with ears that make you sit up and pay attention! As you can see, he's ever so cute but his flipped and flopped ears complete the picture. Winston is learning to Shake paw on command and adores having his back scratched. He is thriving in a wonderful foster home with two children and several dogs, large and small. Winston is good with all of them! Winston especially enjoys sleeping in bed with his foster parents and loves snuggling up close and snoozing like a champ. This little buddy is already crate trained and is working on reliably hitting the potty pad. He's fostered with another puppy and they love to run and play with their toys. Winston adores treats and wants to please you so he will be given one. Winston weighs 17 pounds at 10-14 weeks old and should be a medium-sized pet when full grown, probably weighing 40 to 60 pounds. This adorable young American Staffordshire Terrier mix has been given lots of love and will be an easy addition to an active, loving home. Posted Breed: Shar Pei / Mixed (medium coat). This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $175 if picked up in TN, $225 plus transport fee for out of state adoptions. Excuse me while I kiss the Skye! Skye is a beautiful brindle coated Shar Pei mix gal who is 10 months old, weighs 44 pounds and is ready to greet you with a kiss, then take on the world! Bouncy and bright are just two of the words her foster mom uses to describe this vivacious pup. Skye is eager to play, and wants to learn anything and everything she can from you. She loves to play with other dogs but will need fur siblings similar to her temperament so they can romp and roll around outside for hours on end, her favorite is a game of chase with a ball or toy. Skye has a face that just begs for your sweet love and attention, she seems to be at your every beck and call and is very eager and willing to learn. She already knows sit and how to be good in her crate. Skye is certainly young enough for an obedience class and we think she would certainly excel! She will need your patience and guidance on her house training skills as she transitions to a new home. We think Skye is aptly named as she would enjoy a family who has an active lifestyle and would take her out to hike and go for walks and play dates in the park. If you get as lost as we do gazing into this Skye, then apply to adopt her today! MEET ME @ PETCO 3-18-17! Zadie might appear to have been brought over from across the big blue, but aye mate, she's just a regular ole' country girl! Zadie is a simply adorable big ear'd babe who weighs about 20 pounds and is still just 5 months old. She is a Belgian Shepherd Malinois/Husky mix girl who loves to play with her toys, but is mostly just a big cuddle bug! We aren't completely sure of her heritage but we think her ears certainly speak Husky and Shepherd. Zadie is still a puppy and would prefer an active home where she can get lots of attention and interaction. Zadie is curious about cats and would be ok with a feline fur sibling as long as she has some time to get to know them, but she would likely prefer a canine fur sibling best. She is already crate trained and is working on going in on command. Zadie is also doing very well on learning her house training in her foster home, but will need your patience and consistency in order to really get her potty time down pat in a brand new environment. She adores play time with other dogs and has a blast at doggy daycare. If you're searching for a ring dinger of a sheila to call your very own best friend, Zadie would make the absolutely perfect perky ear'd pal! MEET ME @ PETCO 3-18-17! PLEASE CONTACT JOJO YOUNG AT 1-615-489-3928 FOR MORE INFORMATION. Meet adorable gal Jill. She is a sweet and pretty 1 year old, 50 pound, Mtn Cur/Lab mix who is desperately searching for her forever home! Jill is good with other dogs and loves to play. She would be best in an active home where her family could interact with her often, or she could roam free in a fenced in yard. Jill is already altered and up to date on vaccinations and is on flea and tick preventatives as well. She knows some basic commands and is certainly at an age where she can be easily trainable. She can be a cat chaser if given the chance and would probably do best in a home without them. Jill is a nice and friendly girl who jumps joyfully at the sight of you! She would prefer a forever family where she is the only female dog, as she is quite the tomboy and prefers having rough and tumble brothers around best! If Jill looks like a girl who would be perfect for you and your contact her caregiver today at 1-615-489-3928. Location: Cookeville, TN
Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This dog is located and fostered in Crossville, Tennessee. SPONSORED (FREE) ADOPTION TO APPROVED HOME!! Weighing about 60 pounds, Drambuie, a beautiful, likely Boxer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix (it's a guess), grabs attention with his rich mahogany brindle and white coat, adorable underbite, and eagerness to learn. Almost five years old, "Buie" is boarding in an indoor/outdoor rescue kennel in Crossville (TN). He gets along great with people (though is probably a bit rowdy for small children), has very high energy, needs lots of exercise, and plays hard with some dogs (may not be friendly with others). We would suggest he be the only family pet (no other dogs or cats). He loves to splash in his wading pool, runs full steam ahead for the pure joy of running (fenced yard required), and delights in games of fetch and tug-of-war (he's learning to "release" and practicing 30+ other obedience and trick skills, including heel, sit, down, stay, shake hands, spin, catch, "find it", and beg). He has been fully vetted, vaccinated, microchipped, and is on preventives for fleas, ticks, heart worms and other internal parasites. Great in a car (no whining or pacing), he is crate-, house-, and leash-trained; and he's a gentleman for the vet. His food- and praise-motivation makes him a special delight to work with. Buie is looking for a family to love, train and play with him. Since his ancestry is of such a strong breed, continuation of training is a must. Will you give this exuberant adult a chance at a sunny future? If your family has experience with strong breeds and a love for the high-energy, fast-learning temperament, Buie is your boy!
