Posted Breed: Boxer / Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Binnie Barnes is being fostered in HOUSTON. TX. She is available for out-of-state adoption. Hello, my name is Binnie Barnes - I am a timeless beauty with the charm and spunk of my namesake! Life's been pretty ruff for me but now I'm part of the RCR family and could not be happier! You see, when I was just a puppy I was adopted from the pound and I was so excited to have a home of my very own. But it wasn't much of a home after all. My new owner, put a chain on my neck and tied me up in the backyard where I lived all alone for six years. And then one day I guess they got tired of me being there and back to the pound I went to be put to sleep. But life had other plans for me! The chain is gone now and my wounds have healed and the vet says my fur will grow back in no time! My skin showed the typical signs of life outside but now that I'm inside and getting lots of TLC, my fur is coming back and it's beautiful! Who cares about a little missing fur anyway, right? I am now in a super fun board/train program where I'm learning all my manners - I'm a star pupil! My teacher says I'm super smart, eager to please, and just love to soak up the attention and affection I've waited my whole life for! Now I'm ready to find my happily ever after - my friends at Red Collar told me that there's a very special family out there for me and I can't wait to find them! Will you be my hero? I promise to love you forever and ever! Contact info@redcollar.org for more information. Age: 7 ys Weight: 60 lbs Dogs? ok Cats? unknown Kids? ok Binnie Barnes is being fostered in HOUSTON, TX. The Houston area adoption fee is $300. Out of state adoption is available; fee for out of state is $500 which includes flight, kennel, and bed. Why should you consider adopting a dog from Houston? Houston is the #2 kill city in the U.S. City and County shelters often take in a combined 200-300 animals per day. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average "live release rate" from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. Houston is estimated to have over 1 million homeless animals. Over 100,000 are killed in Harris Co shelters every year. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. We hope that you will consider one of our many adoptable pets who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home - wherever it may be!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Natasha asks: Do you love to give belly rubs? Do you love to give ear-scratches? Do you like to get dog-kisses? Would it be OK if I sometimes lick your arm or leg like you were my own personal lollipop? Do you have a thing for pups who resemble baby hippos? Do you like a dog that snores a little? Would it be OK if I leaned against you while we watch TV on the couch? Would it be OK if I'd rather stay home and snuggle with you than go to a dog park? Do you wish you had a dog who loves to hop in the car and just go for rides? (Drive-throughs are my favorites!) Are you gonna share those Chik-Fil-A nuggets with me? Can we be best friends for always? If you answered yes to most or all of these, you might be my perfect human! Email info@redcollar.org so we can meet! Age: 3 yrs Weight: 45 lbs Dogs? ok Cats? unknown Kids? ok Needs Foster? yes Many of our adoptions are to out-of-area adopters. The process is, for the most part, the same as it is for in-town adoptions. The adoption fee to out-of-state destinations in the U.S. is $550, which includes air transport, traveling crate, and health certificate. The adoption fee for Canadian destinations is $600 (Canadian). (Please note that there is an additional estimated $80 pick up charge in Canada). RCR takes care of all of the flight arrangements. Because of the distance, it is not possible for you to meet the dog, in person, unless you come to Houston. We can often send videos and/or do FaceTime interviews to allow you to “meet” the dog. I had a bit of a rough time living on the streets, and did not like being at the city pound either. I was just not super happy to be there, so my days were numbered. But some volunteers took the time to get to know me a little, and saw my sweet side shining through. Then Red Collar Rescue saved me and got me out of the pound to safety! I'm quite a stunner in the looks department. I'm a good boy, kind of quiet and introspective. I am shy when first meeting people, but when I get to know you and trust you, I will be your best friend for life! Quick moves and lots of activity scare me, so I would probably be best in a home without children. I get along with dogs, and I love my foster K9 siblings. I've become a pretty good snuggler in my foster home too! I'm calm and gentle and a total Prince Charming, just waiting for you! I can't wait to meet my new forever family! Normally I would advise you to never point out a lady's wrinkles, but I think my smooshiness is part of what makes me special! Don't you agree? Let's just call them pleats, shall we? Underneath these precious pleats of mine is the sweetest girl you'll ever find. I love to give kisses, and would be honored to be your leading lady! I once was a shy pup, but I've decided it's much nicer to get lots of cuddles and loving! I've become quite a people person! I also get along well around other dogs. And cats? Who cares! I really don't seem to mind them being around. I'm easy on the leash, and I love to go for walks. I'm ready for a new scene, and a life full of happiness and adventure (and leisure, of course!) PIRATE is me name, and playing is me game. I'm full of fun energy for lots of clownin' around ! I like to amass great troves of loot and booty (toys and sticks). I love the sticks so much, that I'm known around these parts as the Branch Manager (harharhar)!!! Why, sometimes I even commandeer them from the other Old Salts that I bunk with (my foster siblings, that is). Those slowpokes never even know what hit 'em! I do love my playmates though, but don’t ye be telling them. I'm super smart and learn quick. I think I'm advanced for my age because I'm learning from my crew-mates. They keep me shipshape. I'm 5 months old and still growing, with a loads of charm, snap, zap and zip. I'm so darn cute and lovable... be still yer beating heart! Don't ye know? When I'm not playing, I like to follow the landlubbers around. I'm very curious about the world. Cuddles, belly rubs, kisses and Treasure (aka PEANUT BUTTER) are my weakness!! If ye want me to sail with ye....ye best be good at discovering treasure! Blimey!! Almost forgot to mention, I'm blind in my left eye. There's no fixing it, but that doesn't stop me one bit! Posted Breed: Husky / Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Hi Guys, Smuggler here! I am named after the breath taking beautiful Smuggler Mountain in Colorado, because my coat is white as snow! I somehow ended up homeless and on the street searching for food. Some people were not very nice to me, so it took a while for me to trust anyone enough to be rescued. But here I am now, living the good life and getting lots of TLC! I have had the works...vaccines, neuter, micro-chip, etc...and am a perfectly healthy pup! I LOVE other dogs and need to be in a home with a k9 sibling to make me feel more comfortable. I am timid with new people, and need someone that will be patient with me while I learn to trust again. It takes more than one meet and greet for me to warm up to new people. Fast moves and loud noises scare me, so I prefer to be in a home with adults, as young children are a bit too much for me. I am crate trained and almost house-trained and also learning my basic commands. I am very gentle and sweet boy and hope to have my forever home soon. Please email adopt@redcollar.org to make me a part of your family! She is available for out of state adoption.** ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi, my name is Chloe! My owner got sick and could no longer take care of me. The nice doctor at the clinic was kind enough to let me stay here until I find a new home. At first, I was not so good with other dogs but now they let me go to daycare very day with other dogs and I realized they're not that bad. As a matter of fact, it's alot of fun to run and play all day! I am very sweet and love pets and cuddle time. I am loyal and will love you forever if you choose me to be your new companion. I would prefer a home with another dog, and I especially love boy dogs! Wanna meet me? Email savapetwac@yahoo.com I LOVE other dogs, belly rubs, cuddling with my humans, going for walks, sun bathing, eating, giving kisses, going for car rides, being included in all family activities I HAVE A loving and gentle disposition, a tail that wags incessantly and kisses waiting for you all the time. I also have one eye that doesn’t work and that requires eye drops daily, and since my mouth/jaw was injured prior to being rescued, I do have a minor snoring problem. I have excellent hearing and a strong bark and will alert my family when I hear unfamiliar noises or sense that something just isn’t right. I GET ALONG WITH all people and dogs that I have met so far (and I’ve met many). I am comfortable setting appropriate boundaries with overly-zealous dogs. I WOULD RATHER NOT share meal/eating locations with other dogs as I am a rapid eater and have a ferocious appetite. I can get a little bossy when it comes to food. I would definitely prefer not to be in a shelter again as I am the perfect (easy) house pet. My foster mom has had to kennel me a few times while traveling and although I prefer to be in a home 24/7, I am quite flexible. I NEED to be in a home where I can be affectionate. I love attention but am very satisfied just lying next to your feet while you work or watch TV. Although I have learned some basic commands, I could use some additional obedience training. I AM an easy to please, and eager to please affectionate and happy middle aged girl who loves my humans and responds well to correction. My early years were challenging, however, I am beyond thankful to all who rescued me and provided me with love. I am looking forward to “paying it forward” from here on. A PERFECT DAY FOR ME INCLUDES a couple of short walks and/or car rides, a few belly rubs, snuggling with my human(s), a nutritious meal or two each day, and laying on a soft rug, dog bed, or soft human furniture (if allowed) next to my humans while they work or relax. I PREFER NOT TO have to ruff-house with other dogs though I am good at escaping to my own quiet place) IF YOUR FAMILY is looking for an easy, trustworthy, calm and affectionate family member who aim to please, then ask for Chloe! As you might expect, I am the (slightly) more adventurous one. We are quite a team of snuggle-buggles. We were both quite shy when we were rescued from the streets, and then were terrified at the pound, finding comfort only in each other. But, Red Collar Rescue came along, and we got a foster mom that loved and loved on us, and now we are coming out of our shells. We live with some other dogs... a group of pups affectionately known as "the littles". We love to play with the others, but mostly we love to snuggle and be near our person. We are a bonded pair, so we should go to our forever home together. You know what they say; two is better than one! We keep each other company, and you will get twice the love!
