Posted Breed: Brittany / Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Buster was turned into a Missouri shelter because his family could no longer care for him. The shelter contacted NBRAN to see if we could help him. Our wonderful team of volunteers gassed up their cars and drove Buster to Phoenix to start his new life. After arriving in Arizona, Buster was successfully treated for Heartworm. He is now heartworm free. He also has been treated for Valley Fever. This sweet boy deserves a loving home. Buster is very active for a 10 year old and loves looking for birds in the back yard. He is crate trained, house broken and good with other dogs. If you would like more information about Buster, please fill out an application at http://www.nbran.org/adoptappl.asp and then contact Robin Smith at britrescueaz@cox.net Buster's adoption fee is $175. Any person aged 60 years or older may adopt for $100.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: French Brittany (short coat). Hi there California, Hunter here. I am a 3 and 1/2 year old French Brittany who had a hard life before coming into rescue. I came from a breeder/hoarding situation where there was a lot of neglect. I was in rough shape when rescued and I had to stay in a shelter with the other dogs seized from the kennel while the legal case involving the seizure proceeded. Because my entire life was spent in a kennel with little to no human contact, I am starved for human attention. Indeed, I am a total cuddle bear who has bonded with my foster mom and my favorite thing is to be with her. My foster mom, who has other Brittanys, says I would do best with a passive companion dog in the household, since, try as I might, a lot of animals make me really nervous. I do love playing with my foster brother. I also need to be in a home without children (including a home with visiting grandchildren) because children frighten me. I would be best in an adult household that is quiet with a regular routine - that includes lots of daily exercise for me, of course. My foster mom has been leash-training me but I can still be leash reactive if other dogs get near me so I will need more training on the leash with a harness. My foster mom says I am very smart and I'm definitely doing better on the leash but I need more work and anyone who wants to adopt me should be committed to more training. I am a good boy and just need someone to love me and continue with my training. You can call me a late bloomer with bushels of potential. I am very handsome and do want to please. Since my childhood was not good, I will need to be adopted by a very dog-saavy person or couple who is very patient and has extensive experience with Brittanys. I am house-trained, know my basic commands, and love to sleep in bed. I am neutered, heartworm negative, current on all vaccines, and microchipped. I will need a secure 6 ft. fence at my new home so I can safely explore and run zoomies. My adoption fee is $375.00, which helps to cover my medical bills and medical bills for other Brittanys in NBRAN. If interested in making me a member of your family, contact Lisa Vernon at 916-296-5195 or at doglover95966@yahoo.com,

Posted Breed: Brittany. Snickers is a handsome tri-colored Brittany. Snickers, originally from Texas, was surrendered to NBRAN after a change in family situation. Snickers is an active boy that will require an active family to keep him focused. He is very smart and would be an excellent candidate for obedience training and/or hunt training. But currently, he has absolutely no recall, and can not be trusted off leash. We also recently discovered that Snickers has the ability to jump skyscrapers with a single bound.....ok maybe not that high....but he can jump 5-6 ft fences when he feels the need to explore. Snickers will require a yard with a minimum six-foot, block wall, fence. No chain link. Snickers is just a typical, active 6 year old Brittany boy who needs a great family to train and work with him. He is trustworthy in the house, housebroken to a dog door, and good with other dogs. Snickers vaccines are up to date, he is neutered, tested for heartworm, tick and lyme disease and microchipped. His adoption donation is $375. Our adoption process includes an application, interview, home visit and vet reference. Please complete an application via our website at www.nbran.org. You may also contact Snickers' foster at britrescueaz@cox.net.

Posted Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Reagan is a ruggedly handsome Brittany, who is sturdy for his breed--tipping the scale at 60 pounds. He gets along with other dogs, after a proper introduction, but would also really enjoy being the center of attention as an only dog. He likes attention from his human more than anything. When he was surrendered by his owner who was moving, we were told that Reagan once hunted with him, but we have not have him out to test his ability or recall. Reagan is altered, up to date on his vaccines, and tested negative for heartworm, tick & Lyme diseases. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Reagan, please contact Robin at britrescueaz@cox.net. At 10, Reagan is eligible for our senior to senior adoption program making his adoption donation just $100 for anyone 60 yrs or over. Otherwise, his adoption fee is $175. He is a healthy boy and requires no medication and has no signs of arthritis. An application, interview and home visit is part of our adoption process. Posted Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer / Brittany / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Jackie (jcave@cncpc.com) for more information about this pet. Red was found in a dirty, muddy outdoor kennel with nothing but algae colored water. His owners had moved and left him. He is mostly German Shorthaired Pointer. Red is still a puppy in age and at heart. He is two years old. He loves people and wishes to be a good boy, put no ones has taken the time to teach him. He loves learning and he loves when he gets to please his people. Red is the only dog I have known that taught himself how to come down stairs. For a half and hour one day I watched Red climbed the step turn around on the narrow stripe of floor left to him between the gate and the first step and walk down the stairs. At first it was mostly fall or slide down the stairs but he perservered and thought out each attempt until he got it. Red might also be part kangaroo. He loves to jump and while he is learning that is unacceptable he sometimes forgets. Fortunately Red hasn't discovered how to jump out of the four foot fence. But he also doesn't like to get to far from his human. He is just a fun, lovable guy whom you can't help but like. Of course he hasn't been worked with a lot and needs to be taught rights and wrongs, but with his eagerness to please and his willingness to learn he picks up things very quickly. Somebody threw away a great dog. Red is in KY. He is neutered, up to date on shots and heartworm preventative and microchipped. Red's adoption fee is $325 If you are interested in Red please contact jcave@cncpc.com

Posted Breed: Brittany / Border Collie / Mixed (long coat). Addy is a one and half year old girl that was pulled from a kill shelter in TN. It is believed she is a Brittany/border collie mix. She is somewhat shy in new situations. She thoroughly enjoys playing with other dogs and loves being outside. Getting her to come back in is a game for her. She has not been a digger or fence climber. She has been spayed, had all her shots and microchipped. She is heartworm negative. Addy is crate trained and housebroken and has not chewed her bedding up Addy would enjoy another dog to play with. She would need to be fed separately as she can get a little food aggressive if another dog gets around her food. She loves attention and likes to be able to get outside some during the day so a home where someone is home part of the day would be ideal for her. ... She will require a fenced yard. Addy was adopted and returned because she would not bond with the family and she kept escaping. She would do best with a female adopter who has another dog and a secure fence. Addy is a little shy and it takes a while for her to warm up to you. She needs someone who can spend a lot of time with her. For more information on Addy, you may contact settertown@aol.com She is being fostered in TN. Her adoption fee is 325.00 and she can be transported up to l400 miles.

      Location: Curwensville, PA
Posted Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Hey Everyone, My name is Graham and I'm a very sweet 11 year old orange & white Brittany guy who is looking for a place to call HOME FOREVER! I love hanging out here in Virginia Beach with my foster family and playing with my foster brother Max, but what I truly dream of is a place to call my very own! Graham maybe 10 years old, but don't let his age fool you he is full of energy. He loves to go out and go walking, running and has shown some interest in birds, but not quite at a hunting level. He does well on leash but would certainly do better with continually training. He loves his belly to be rubbed and enjoys hanging out or snuggling with his people or taking a romp in the yard. This means, Graham will also NEED a secure fence in his new home to help keep him safe! Graham does well with other dogs and loves people, but cats are pretty much unknown but given his curiosity to explore and interest in other animal we advise against it. His foster Mom has been working on commands and also helping him become the perfect gentleman. Graham is house trained, does well in the crate, as well as being fully vetted to included being neutered, micro chipped and up to date on all shots and heartworm negative. HOWEVER, Graham does have a VERY SPECIAL ear condition called vasculitis that will require medication, as well as, routine monitoring by the vet BUT again this in NO WAY slows this sweet boy down! So, the only thing missing is a place to call his own-Is that your Home? If you believe Graham is the Brit you are looking for, please fill out an application online at: http://www.nbran.org/adoptappl.asp. After filing out an application please contact the coordinator for the State in which you live. The contact information for the State Coordinators can be found at the following link: http://www.nbran.org/contacts.asp. Graham is currently being fostered in Virginia Beach, Virginia and his adoption fee is 200.00, which will help NBRAN cover the vetting costs and other expenses associated with bringing Brit like Graham back to good health and readying them for adoption. However is you are a senior (over age 60) like Graham then you both qualify for the senior to senior program, which makes the adoption fee 100.00. Don't live in Virginia or close by, No Problem! NBRAN also has a wonderful transport team who will help bring Virginia to her new family, up to 1200 miles with the adoptive family being responsible for the last 100 miles, at no additional fee. Contact Leslie Trenta for information at leslie@leslietrentadesigns.com Thank you!

Posted Breed: Brittany (medium coat). JJ is a 7 year old orange and white neutered male Brittany boy who is looking for his forever home. His former owner could not take care of him and surrendered him to NBRAN. He is a big, healthy boy at 48# and is currently being fostered in MO. He is current on all of his immunizations and is microchipped. JJ is a loveable, obedient and intelligent boy. He is good with other dogs and with children but a little too interested in cats. He is a moderate- to high-energy boy who loves to run. He will need a 6’ privacy fence and a large yard. JJ greets people enthusiastically, so his foster is working on his jumping on people when he greets them. He is pretty well behaved other than that. He plays well with other dogs, but could be happy being an only dog as long as he gets attention from his people. If you are interested in adopting JJ, please visit www.nbran.org and complete an adoption application before contacting Cristina at cristina970005@yahoo.com. The cost to adopt JJ is $350.00 to offset his vetting and to allow NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful pets. Transportation can be arranged up to 1400 miles, with the adopter responsible for the last 100 miles

Posted Breed: Brittany. This handsome man is 12 years young! Can you believe that? Doesn't he looks awesome? It was unfortunate that Kyle's human fell on hard times having to move and unable to take Kyle. Kyle's person found him as a stray in Texas many years ago when he was just a pup. He has lived with him all this time. It was a very difficult decision to ask for our help and let Kyle go. Kyle had a thick coat when he arrived in Arizona but we referred him to a barber to give him a nice Arizona summer cut. He's liking his new cooler "do". His new look shows off his beautiful long tail and cute freckles. Not having a lot of interaction with other dogs, Kyle had a little trouble adjusting to a houseful of dogs. But he is doing better every day. He would probably do best as an only dog or maybe with one easy going female dog. He is NOT good with cats. Kyle is very loving to people and would make someone a wonderful companion. Kyle was recently altered and had a full blood panel completed. He tested negative for heartworm, tick and lyme disease. He shows no sign of arthritis or hip issues. He really is amazing for his age. Kyle qualifies for a senior to senior adoption if you are over age 60. His adoption donation would just be $100. If you are not 60 or over, Kyle's donation would be $200. We also have foster to adopt programs. If you would like more information on Kyle, contact Robin at britrescueaz@cox.net or call after 4 pm to 602-501-1844.

      Breed: Brittany

      Location: Curwensville, PA
Posted Breed: Brittany (medium coat). This handsome boy is Calvin. He is approximately 9 years old. With that alert look and sparkle in his eye, would you believe he is blind? Most people that meet him for the first time don't even recognize that he is blind because Calvin's blindness doesn't stop him from enjoying life. Calvin was surrendered by his family after he went blind and they were not prepared to cope with a blind dog. His blindness was most likely the result of SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) a disease in dogs causing sudden blindness. But poor Calvin was also dealt another bad card that his previous owner probably did not address or recognize. He also has a condition called Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) which is the inability to properly digest food due to a lack of digestive enzymes made by the pancreas. He was very thin and basically starving to death when he arrived in Arizona. Now with a special enzyme mixed in his food twice a day, he is thriving and almost getting FAT! This enzyme is ordered from an on-line company and reasonably priced. Calvin is one special boy and deserves someone that recognizes just how special is really is. He is very loving, likes belly rubs and enjoys sitting in "his" chair on the front porch "watching" the neighborhood. If you would like to know more about Calvin or may be interested in adopting him, please contact Robin at britrescueaz@cox.net. Our adoption process includes an application, interview, home visit and vet check. His adoption donation is $200. Any person aged 60 years or over may adopt a senior dog (8 yrs or older) for $100. Calvin's not the dog for you? That's OK, we understand. But you can still help give him a great life. Contributions for Calvin's care can be made via our website www.nbran.org. Please designate that your donation is specifically for AZ-Calvin.
