Posted Breed: Brussels Griffon (short coat). Little dog, Big personality! Date into Rescue: 04/27/2015 Reason for being in rescue: We rescued Whiskers from our local shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Weight: Est 8 lbs Height: Est 11" Adoption Fee: $125 What's my story? It's quite a story. On 4/19/2013 a cute little dog was taken to the local shelter after being found by police. No microchip was found and no owner came forward so the people at the shelter started looking for a home .On 5/28/2013 they found that home with a lady named Elizabeth. It could have happened anywhere in the Carolina's, right? Sure it could - but Whiskers was found running at large - in Oregon. That's a far piece from South Carolina. Two years later, our Whiskers is once again picked up running at large. This time, a scan of his little body found a microchip implanted by the Oregon shelter he was adopted from. The chip was registered but attempts to contact the owner have gone unanswered. The phone # on record rings fast busy and the email's are ignored. After working with our new partner in Oregon on this, we've all agreed that it's best to find Whiskers a good home right here. What is my personality like? Whiskers has some behavioral issues, and a home without children is a must. He will show you his teeth, growl and snap over many things. He is a big resource guarder. He will guard his crate, his food, his toys, his treats, his friends and most importantly his human. Whiskers can be quite temperamental, possibly an indication of a bad past. He is in love with one of CPR's employees and does great with her. She can handle him, get him out of the crate, etc. Even with her, however, he will growl and guard treats. He also does not like his faced to be touch. On the positive side, he is a real cuddle bug. .He knows how to gives hugs and loves to show you. He will lay his little head on your shoulder to let you know he is there and that he loves you. Whiskers is very playful and loves to play with other dogs his size. Ideally, finding a trainer would be best. He seems to like women more than men and would thrive best in a home with someone that lives completely alone. He has been cat tested and was fine with the cat. Age: est birthday 04/19/2011 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Scared Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. You can also read our adoption tips page for hints and helps on adopting a rescued dog. http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/AdoptionTips.shtml or for general information on Carolina Poodle Rescue, please visit our FAQs - http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/FAQGeneral.shtml If you are interested in providing a home for me, please complete our Adoption Application. More About Brussels Griffon Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted Weight: 10 lbs Height: About 10" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $269 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? An only dog home with time to train and shape this young man's behavior. He's been alone/ignored far too long. What is my personality like? Pierre is a sweet dog who is very energetic. He needs some leash skills but since he's tiny, that isn't too much of an issue and he will learn. He is not very treat motivated, but showed a lot of interest in the stuffed elephant and statue. Pierre is not much of a lap dog, and he will jump on anything with four legs. He would be better as an only dog. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly but if other dogs around he can get a bit distracted. Other tips and tidbits: Pierre Blue is very smart and he would thrive with an outlet for his energy and intelligence. He is not a stay home and cuddle kind of guy. He wants to go and do. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Date into Rescue: 12/30/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release; owner had no time for him. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 18.2 lb Height: Est 11.5 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? I would love a home with a family that has a lot of love to give. I'm pretty calm but I do like to explore. I'm fine with other dogs, but they need to be confident dogs because I tend to pick on the ones that give off nervous energy. Cats are okay I guess; I pretty much ignore them. What is my personality like? I'm Otis and I came to the farm under the background story that I lived in a fenced yard with a few others for a while. I didn't get a lot of attention so now I'm trying to make up for it. You could just be sitting there working and you will feel my little paws on your leg staring at you with a little grin until I get attention. I'm very good at sniffing things out. I love to smell and see new places and things. I'm very observant- you can't sneak anything or anyone by me without me introducing myself! Your attention is what I prefer over toys, I don't even know what those are yet. I can be a little head shy especially when telling me to sit with a treat over my head, but I will sit. The head shyness will eventually go away once I am used to it. I just need to learn what it is like to be a house pet. Can you show me? How do I act when I first meet new people? I'm friends with everyone! Other tips and tidbits: House trained? Foster location: Foster home in Greensboro, NC Special Needs? No Weight: 25 lb Height: Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes, she loves to run in the yard and needs work on leash training. What kind of home would be best for me? Sophie is good with other dogs - with her foster siblings, she has picked up well on what they each like and their boundaries. She would do best in a home with another dog that she can interact and play with. She hasn't been formally tested with a cat, but she barks at stray cats and chases wild life, so she probably needs a cat free home. And we aren't sure how she is with kids, but she would definitely not do well with small kids as she can be exuberant and doesn't necessarily know her size. What is my personality like? Sophie is really sweet and loving, but not too needy which is great. She will seek you out for attention and snuggles but is capable of doing her own thing too. She is energetic, but calms down well so as long as she gets some romping time every day, she will be perfectly content to sleep on the couch with someone in the evening. She loves to destroy toys and thinks bones are great too. She is good in her crate during the day. Her foster mom wouldn't trust her out all day just yet as she does like to steal socks and other things if left out. They are working on manners, like jumping and counter surfing. She knows what she is supposed to do for the most part, but she's a bit devilish. She is clever and isn't destructive; she's been stealing gloves off the table to carry around, not chew up. She is definitely a terrier, so she needs someone who will out-stubborn her! She is also great in the car but doesn't like getting in and out of the car (also working on that). How do I act when I first meet new people? Everyone is wonderful and she expects scratches! Other tips and tidbits: House trained? Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) (long coat). Adoption Fee: $200. Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 01/16/2018 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to local shelter/can not provide for medical needs Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Precious had an 8 lb mass tumor removed from her left chest wall. Her surgery was 12/28/2017. Her health care was provided by the wonderful people at the Marion County Animal Shelter Friends and Volunteers. At CPR we are very grateful that they were so concerned about Precious. Weight: 9.13 lb Height: 10 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner and someone who is home more than they're away. Precious is lonely and misses her owner and wants only a soft bed to curl up in at your feet. What is my personality like? Quiet and friendly. Precious gets along well with other dogs and asks for very little. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Precious has been much loved and it shows. She is now seeking a retirement home. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. Thank you for considering CPR.
