Posted Breed: Brussels Griffon (short coat). Little dog, Big personality! Date into Rescue: 04/27/2015 Reason for being in rescue: We rescued Whiskers from our local shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Weight: Est 8 lbs Height: Est 11" Adoption Fee: $125 What's my story? It's quite a story. On 4/19/2013 a cute little dog was taken to the local shelter after being found by police. No microchip was found and no owner came forward so the people at the shelter started looking for a home .On 5/28/2013 they found that home with a lady named Elizabeth. It could have happened anywhere in the Carolina's, right? Sure it could - but Whiskers was found running at large - in Oregon. That's a far piece from South Carolina. Two years later, our Whiskers is once again picked up running at large. This time, a scan of his little body found a microchip implanted by the Oregon shelter he was adopted from. The chip was registered but attempts to contact the owner have gone unanswered. The phone # on record rings fast busy and the email's are ignored. After working with our new partner in Oregon on this, we've all agreed that it's best to find Whiskers a good home right here. What is my personality like? Whiskers has some behavioral issues, and a home without children is a must. He will show you his teeth, growl and snap over many things. He is a big resource guarder. He will guard his crate, his food, his toys, his treats, his friends and most importantly his human. Whiskers can be quite temperamental, possibly an indication of a bad past. He is in love with one of CPR's employees and does great with her. She can handle him, get him out of the crate, etc. Even with her, however, he will growl and guard treats. He also does not like his faced to be touch. On the positive side, he is a real cuddle bug. .He knows how to gives hugs and loves to show you. He will lay his little head on your shoulder to let you know he is there and that he loves you. Whiskers is very playful and loves to play with other dogs his size. Ideally, finding a trainer would be best. He seems to like women more than men and would thrive best in a home with someone that lives completely alone. He has been cat tested and was fine with the cat. Age: est birthday 04/19/2011 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Scared Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. You can also read our adoption tips page for hints and helps on adopting a rescued dog. http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/AdoptionTips.shtml or for general information on Carolina Poodle Rescue, please visit our FAQs - http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/FAQGeneral.shtml If you are interested in providing a home for me, please complete our Adoption Application. (Both online and downloadable applications are available.) Also as with all of our fosters we reserve the right to refuse adoption for any reason. We do what is best for the pets. More About Brussels Griffon Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Date into Rescue: 8/4/2017 Reason for being in rescue: nc shelter- owner surrender- can't care for. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Matthew has demodex mange. He has very bad skin right now and we are working through that. He was originally put on apoquel for allergies bur had a reaction to it so we are now transitioning him to a totally grain free food. Weight: 10.1 lbs needs to be 12 lbs Height:about 11" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $269 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Matthew needs someone that will keep up his skin care and let him lead a stress fee life. Demodex mange can be controlled with a happy life and Bravecto flea/tick preventative. Matthew's life has been far from happy. We're going to change all that. What is my personality like? Very happy and eager to please. He is still a bit cautious because he's been through a lot but as we get away from the past, he's opening up and showing us a very pleasant personality. He loves to climb on the second shelf of the bedding storage and snuggle down in the middle of all the clean pads . I imagine it feels good to be able to feel soft cloth against his skin again after being so badly matted for so long . How do I act when I first meet new people? Inquisitive and curious without being pushy. Offer him a treat and his heart is yours . More tips and tidbits: When Matthew arrived, he got out of the crate and looked at us like "please now what are you people going to do to me." Matthew had been severely neglected in his previous home. He was so badly matted and his skin was so inflamed that his tail was matted to his body. During the shave down it was discovered that his tail was so badly infected it had to be amputated. Matthew's tail is now about 3" long. Since he arrived and has learned that we are not going to hurt him anymore, he is starting to relax and we're seeing a playful and happy side. There is nothing he wont' eat but he waits to be fed. He does not dig in the trash but he's waiting eagerly for his treat. He'll put on his needed weight in no time. He gets along well with his fellow dogs at his foster home and is in general very laid back. Matthew says no cats please. They are fun for chasing and barking it but not so much fun for living with. I think he's allergic to them. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Nate would best fit in with a home of loving and active people. He would do fine with kids as well who enjoy playing with a hyper dog. What is my personality like? Nate is a very loving and outgoing boy. His favorite activity is giving hugs. He has a lot of energy considering how young he is. Nate has mainly done well with both the big and little dogs he has met along with cats. Because of his hyper nature, he does pull on a leash, but that is something that can be fixed when in a home with consistency. Once he has his play time, Nate can be a laid back boy who loves his belly rubbed. Overall, Nate would be best for active people wanting an adventurous dog to take places. Yes, Chong is active and young, he will need room to run. What kind of home would be best for me? Chong would love any home that loves him in return. He would love another silly dog to play with or even a few kids to run with. What is my personality like? Chong is one of Carolina Poodle Rescues Hurricane Irma dogs. He had a rough start with getting very sick with parvo a day after arriving at the poodle farm but his happy spirits brought him through it. It is nearly impossible to be upset around him, he will do everything in his power to lighten the mood. Chong is a puppy but he just so happens to be a calm one. He still loves to play and chew on his chew bones but is also perfectly okay with sitting in your lap receiving attention. Chong will need basic command training and a little more practice with walking on a leash. Chong is such a sweet boy and very calm to be so young. He loves people and other dogs. He loves to find other young dogs to play with and does well with any dog he's introduced to. His other side is that he will be a lap dog so you can love on him. He will play with toys but prefers bones. Chong does not really know any tricks yet since he's so young, but can definitely be taught. He does surprisingly well on a leash to be so young but does pull a little when excited. Chong overall is a great and easy boy. He'd do great in a home with another dog to play with and people to love on him and teach his little puppy habits away.If you are looking for a goofy pup to keep you or your dog company Chong is the guy for you! Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team If you give me love, I will love you right back. Date into Rescue: 10/3/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release - her breeder retired her after just one litter because giving birth was hard on her. She dropped a lot of weight and while she was a good mother her breeder felt that one litter was enough. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Ruth had a hernia that was repaired. She is now healing wonderfully. Ruth would be best as an only dog. While she is on problem walking on a leash through a dog park or Petsmart, when it comes to home she does not want to share. Weight: 43.6 lbs.. needs to be 55 Height: Estimated 24" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Ruth would do best as an only pet with an active family. What is my personality like? Ruth is warm, affectionate and loyal which makes for a great family dog. She is shy at first but after a little one on one time and walking her around on a leash it's like she has known you her whole life. Ruth came from a good breeder who loves her dogs very much and spends time with them. She knows about affection and she will curl up in your lap like she thinks she is a tiny chihuahua. Ruth loves to play - with tennis balls to be exact. She would love a kid to spend her days bonding and running with. This girl is incredibly smart and catches on to learning commands quicker than most dogs. So far she knows what "no" means.. She also knows how to sit, give hand shakes, and is now learning to stay and lie down. If you are looking for an affectionate girl that also loves to be active Ruth could be just the one for you. How do I act when I first meet new people? Shy at first, but sweet. More tips and tidbits: Ruth is a retired breeder dog looking for her retirement home at the age of only 2 years old! She is ready to be someone's beloved pet. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 12/31/2014 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. Thank you for considering CPR.

No, but I will need leash training. What kind of home would be best for me? I just want a home where I can be someones tiny little lap dog. What is my personality like? I am all things sweet and affectionate. I don't back down from giving anyone little kisses and all of the love I have to give. My sister is the crazy one and I am just the sweet one. I am still a puppy, and with a puppy you will need to teach me basic commands and show me all about life.. and of course play with me! I promise to make it worth your while! With me, you will never have to worry about not having a loyal friend ever again. How do I act when I first meet new people? I'm a little bashful but still sweet as can be! All about me! Name: Sweet Tea Breed: Standard Poodle Age: est birthdate 1/27/04 Height: est 23 inches Weight: about 48 lbs Good with dogs? yes Good with men/women? Sweet as her name. House trained? yes - with a schedule Crate trained? yes Leash trained? yes Must have fenced in yard? no - she is used to leash walking Their idea of outside time is potty outside and come back in. Foster home is: Dreamweaver Farms Pacolet SC Adoption fee: $200 Why am I with a rescue group? Sweet Tea and her sister Samantha were surrendered to Carolina Poodle Rescue when their owner passed away. Tea is the vibrant one aside from her sister. She has a little more energy to keep up with you than her sister does. Tea is a "in your face" type of dog.. More so than Samantha. She wants to know what you're doing and why! She adores to be shown affection and will sit completely still and content while doing so. She loves treats and knows how to sit.. She is also eager to give you a handshake. Sweet Tea is a free spirit kind of girl and does not care about other dogs being around.. she is not hard to please. Both of the girls are very sweet and calm natured and would make a great addition to the right family. They just want to love and be loved! Sweet Tea and Samantha are looking for a laid back home with no steps, no kids, and lots of loving time. They are retired - they don't want long walks, they want long cuddles. They won't expect you to take them for agility, they are long past that. They want to be your best friends. We were told the girls are the same age but Tea is more mobile than Samantha. Tea and Samantha don't like to be confined - they want the run of the house. Tea likes to explore her surroundings and see what is going on in her world. She wants to play but her old age is catching up with and she is getting stiff in her hips. Tea is a goofy sweet soul looking for a great retirement home with her sister. Samantha is more laid back. Her arthritis keeps her quieter. Update October 2017 - while we would still love to find the girls a home together, Samantha is failing. We don't know if she will be here long. We think it's time for Sweet Tea to move on as she has several more good years to give someone so while they can go together, they can also be separated and go on to homes each on their own.
