Posted Breed: Brussels Griffon (short coat). Little dog, Big personality! Date into Rescue: 04/27/2015 Reason for being in rescue: We rescued Whiskers from our local shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Weight: Est 8 lbs Height: Est 11" Adoption Fee: $125 What's my story? It's quite a story. On 4/19/2013 a cute little dog was taken to the local shelter after being found by police. No microchip was found and no owner came forward so the people at the shelter started looking for a home .On 5/28/2013 they found that home with a lady named Elizabeth. It could have happened anywhere in the Carolina's, right? Sure it could - but Whiskers was found running at large - in Oregon. That's a far piece from South Carolina. Two years later, our Whiskers is once again picked up running at large. This time, a scan of his little body found a microchip implanted by the Oregon shelter he was adopted from. The chip was registered but attempts to contact the owner have gone unanswered. The phone # on record rings fast busy and the email's are ignored. After working with our new partner in Oregon on this, we've all agreed that it's best to find Whiskers a good home right here. What is my personality like? Whiskers has some behavioral issues, and a home without children is a must. He will show you his teeth, growl and snap over many things. He is a big resource guarder. He will guard his crate, his food, his toys, his treats, his friends and most importantly his human. Whiskers can be quite temperamental, possibly an indication of a bad past. He is in love with one of CPR's employees and does great with her. She can handle him, get him out of the crate, etc. Even with her, however, he will growl and guard treats. He also does not like his faced to be touch. On the positive side, he is a real cuddle bug. .He knows how to gives hugs and loves to show you. He will lay his little head on your shoulder to let you know he is there and that he loves you. Whiskers is very playful and loves to play with other dogs his size. Ideally, finding a trainer would be best. He seems to like women more than men and would thrive best in a home with someone that lives completely alone. He has been cat tested and was fine with the cat. Age: est birthday 04/19/2011 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Scared Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. You can also read our adoption tips page for hints and helps on adopting a rescued dog. http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/AdoptionTips.shtml or for general information on Carolina Poodle Rescue, please visit our FAQs - http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/FAQGeneral.shtml If you are interested in providing a home for me, please complete our Adoption Application. More About Brussels Griffon Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

I'm LouLou! We think one of my parents most likely was daschund! I have little short muscle legs and I run run run!!! I'm sweet and lovable too! I am hoping to find a home where I can be the #1 snuggle bug!*** What kind of home would be best for me? LouLou is afraid of men, so she MUST go to a female only home. No exceptions! A home that understands the needs and activity level of a growing puppy! Please read our puppy requirements below before applying. What is my personality like? Happy happy happy! I want to keep learning, experiencing, and doing new things! How do I act when I first meet new people? I'm a puppy - I love everybody! House trained? Working on it! Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: est. birth date 3/15/2017 PUPPY POLICY: ~~Thank you for considering adding a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. You need to be prepared for that work. Because our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious where we put puppies. Our ideal puppy adopters are: *experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets *be scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day *and for those gone 4 hours per day have another canine companion in the home *be stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc) If you fit this criteria, please apply for this puppy. If you do not fit this criteria, we strongly encourage you to look at our adoptable adult dogs. The number one misconception that we hear routinely from new dog owners is that they want a puppy because they do not think they can handle correcting past bad behaviors or resolving baggage. Not every adoptable rescue dog carries such baggage. Many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who have lost their families through no fault of their own. The second misconception we hear is that adult dogs can not bond with a new family. This again is not a true statement. Adult dogs are ready and eager to give you their love. In return, you get a family pet that is a known quantity, known size and shape and color and ready to start on the new adventure, their life with you. Lastly, training a puppy correctly is a tremendous commitment of time and energy. This is why we ask the puppy seeker have more time at home than the average working family. Puppies are gregarious and social creatures who crave attention and positive direction. You need the extra time to do it right.~~ Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Date into Rescue: 09/07/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Found as stray Foster location: Chris & Missy in Rocky Mt, NC Special Needs? None Weight: 5 lb at about 2 months old, not sure how big she'll get but may around average Beagle size? Height: neck to tail 10” and withers 7” as close as I could get with a moving object Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No Update from her foster home 10/4/2017: "Little Miss Coco, what to say. She’s a puppy, a very nice puppy, but still puppy. We think that she is a Manchester Terrier mix, just based upon descriptions that we’ve found online about Manchesters and comparing them to her. So, based upon our guess we suspect she may weigh up to 20 or so pounds once fully grown. She’s NOT house broken yet. Just when we think she’s starting to get it, we find messes. That being said, she has made progress. She sometimes lets us know when she wants outside. Coco is starting to learn some basic commands, like sit and come. She sits for her breakfast and dinner, although getting her to stay long enough to put her bowl down has been up and down. She does eat FAST, and with that we have figured that she is a “chow hound,” meaning she is probably food motivated. Although at the same time she does very well with praise, and loves attention from people. Since Coco loves attention we have noticed that when she gets a chance she loves to have a lap. Sometimes the lap is to escape our 13 month old dog, usually it’s because she loves people. She has proven to be very good with kids, toddlers on up. She seems to be good with adults. Her play with people still is a bit rough, some nips and rougher play. Again, she is a puppy and still learning so much. We have discovered Coco likes to be outside. We can’t seem to walk to the door without her running to it too. At the point she’s not an escape artist, but we fear that as her confidence and independence grow she may try to slip out doors to explore. Because of this, she does need more work on basic commands, especially “come" and “stay.” That is for her safety as much as anything else. She is still learning how to walk on a leash well. Right now she likes to stop, go, change directions, walk between your feet, etc. While she gets walks every day, she still hasn’t figured out how to walk nicely with people. We do not know how she will do with other dogs yet (outside of our 2, and a neighbor’s dog, none larger than 30 pounds). She has not been to a dog park yet as she is not finished with her puppy vaccines yet. Since she has grown up with a cat, she does well with ours. It helps that he likes her and plays with her some. Hopefully she will continue to like cats. If she does go to a home with a cat, the cat needs to like dogs, she will try to tackle the cat and play with the cat. Coco has not been a barker. She does bark, but not like dachshunds or other smaller dogs. When she does bark it’s in response to ours barking at something. She has been sleeping overnight in a crate. This is ONLY due to the fact that we don’t quite trust her to not potty or something else in the house overnight. If given a chance to nap on the bed or couch with someone or one of the other pets, she cuddles up nicely next to them." What kind of home would be best for me? One that understands the time and energy it takes to raise a puppy. Coco is a sweet and smart girl, but she is full of energy and needs lots of training (just like any puppy). Good with other animals and people; good with kids. What is my personality like? She is very gentle and sweet by nature, but she is currently teething and still needs to learn a lot of things. How do I act when I first meet new people? Very friendly; she is a puppy and loves everyone! More tips and tidbits: Crate trained. Very social. Working on leash training. Very food motivated, but she's got a puppy attention span :)! House trained? Has started working on it! Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Breed: Australian Blue Heeler Gender: Female Adoption Fee: $200 Date into Rescue: 12/22/15 Reason for being in rescue: Found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms Pacolet SC Special Needs? No Weight: Est 30 lbs Height: Est 15" Fence Needed: Yes, absolutely What is my personality like? Jasmine is a young dog who needs a strong leader and an experienced blue heeler owner. She is a pure bred heeler and needs a job! Jasmine is high energy, true to her breed, and loves to catch sticks, tennis balls, or her favorite - a Frisbee. She knows how to fetch, and will bring whatever you throw for her back to you. Jasmine absolutely loves playing with toys. S he knows how to walk on a collar/leash but is better on a harness. She really enjoys going for walks and see what is going on in the world. Jasmine is such a smart girl. She was in a foster home when she first came to us and her foster uses a whistle and a clicker and rewards her with a treat - Jasmine has responded very well to this positive training and learns her commands very quickly. She came to us with some basic obedience skills such as Sit, Crate, and Come and has been working on more like Leave It. She is fully crate trained and will go right into her crate when you say "Crate". She is still working on some typical puppy behaviors, but has come a long way working on those with her foster. For example, Jasmine used to have a bad habit of "nipping." This was not in any way out of aggression but rather excitement and her herding instinct. She has now overcome this while in the care of her foster mom! Jasmine is also a very affectionate girl. She likes to be petted and have her ears rubbed and tickled. She is a good dog! She and her foster dog sister play and play and play!! Her adopter will have to have time for her, patience, and a fenced yard. If given the chance, she can jump - but not six feet. In short she needs active owners - ideally someone who likes to hike, do agility and other activities. She will be a great dog in the right setting. Her foster home had 4 cats which Jasmine learned to tolerate. Update 10/05/17- Jasmine has since been adopted and returned. Her owners moved to the city where Jasmine had no room to run and get her energy out. This, therefore, caused a lot of anxiety to her and no outlet. Jasmine continues to be very head strong, yet sweet, staying true to her breed. This experience has shown us and jasmine that she needs to have room to run and do what she was bred to do. Who I am seeking: An experienced dog owner, preferably with this particular breed. Someone who is home more than they're not. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Age: est birth date 12/2013 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! Please note - we do not ship dogs. You can also read our adoption tips page for hints and helps on adopting a rescued dog. http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/AdoptionTips.shtml or for general information on Carolina Poodle Rescue, please visit our FAQs - http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/FAQGeneral.shtml Please note - we do not ship dogs. He is low key and would be a great dog for any first time dog owner. He walks okay on a leash but he still needs a little practice with learning not to pull. Date into Rescue: 9/9/2017 Reason for being in rescue: I'm one of hurricane Irma's orphans Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted- I do have a small mass on the right side of my eye but I am in no pain Weight: 54 lbs Height: estimated 22" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $99 Fence needed? Yes, I really need a fence. What kind of home would be best for me? I need a active home that could possibly give me a job to do! What is my personality like? I am a hurricane Irma orphan that was rescued with a few others by Carolina Poodle Rescue. One of the "breed experts" here believes I am a Belgian Shepherd Malinois hound mix and I have the personality to go with it. No, these people do not know my past but they do see I have a drive for something. What that something is we have not figured out yet. I am pretty independent right now, I don't need loads of attention or gushy baby talk because I am an adult dog and don't have time for those silly things. My caregiver thinks that I can learn to bond with someone but it will take a special person to bring that out in me. Who knows.. maybe I have gone a long time without being a family dog and may need to learn how to be that. I am very assertive and alert, you can't sneak anything by me! I don't miss a beat. One of my caregivers say I have a lot of potential to become something great and the want to go with it. I am not the happiest here.. all I do when I am outside is stare out the fence and bark because I desire so deeply to be a part of the action. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly but I pay more attention to things going on around me. More tips and tidbits: I do not walk on a leash very well, I pull with all of my mite but that can be helped with the right kind of harness and training. I am very treat motivated and I know how to sit and give hand shakes. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.
