Posted Breed: Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). My name is Apollo and I am a very energetic 18 month old pit bull mix. I was surrendered to the shelter by my former owner because they couldn’t afford me anymore. I love to go on long walks or runs, and then relaxing around the house getting my belly rubbed. My favorites things include playing fetch and tug in the backyard. I am great with people and kids, housebroken, and doggy door trained. I do get a bit of separation anxiety when my foster parents leave because I have never gotten this much attention before!!!!!. My foster parents are still working on crate training, but it's scary in there and I don't like it much, but I am getting better each day.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Seth CP

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Seth is almost 2 years old and has been in foster care for quite awhile. He is cat friendly, loves to play fetch, and gets along great with his foster siblings and his friends at doggie daycare. . He came into rescue very skittish, but is getting more confident and adventurous each day, and is ready for his forever home. Seth is medium size, and weighs around 50 pounds. There were 5 pups found together, unknown if their from the same litter since they all have different coloring. Not sure what happened to them, they have no marks of abuse, but they all were very skittish. Seth is shy, but is becoming quite a watchdog being the first to react whenever someone walks by our house. Seth knows how to sit and is a good pup, but is very cautious of strangers and will bark at them when first meeting, so it will take a patient adopter to overcome some of his issues, but you will be rewarded in time with a wonderful hound, What a sweet dog!!

Posted Breed: Whippet / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). JayD is a mix ...unsure if any chihuahua as we thought when he was young , he's quite tall as you can see in picture. Possibly has whippet and chihuahua mix. He is very playful , good with cats and other dogs, crate trained , potty trained , neutered , and doesn't bark much.....one thing he can jump very high so there has to be 6 foot privacy wood fence . Unfortunately he is very skittish and his foster mom has not been able to socialize him much outside of her home along with her other dogs due to certain circumstances , but will be working with him as much as she can. He does love to cuddle next to you , at least once all his energy is expended. Lol. He doesn't do well in public and tries to escape his collar at this time so any inquiries can be made to Cody's and his foster mom is always willing to chat with prospective adopters.

Posted Breed: Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Meet Tori! 2 1/2 yrs old, about 40 lbs. This sweet girl was adopted as a tiny puppy from one of our local shelters and for the entire two years of her existence she has been tied up on a chain in the back yard. We heard about her when the owners were going to dump her on a country road. Amazingly since being with her foster she is very loving, sweet and gets along great with other dogs. She had so many ticks on her you could barely see her white coat. She loves her crate too as you can tell!. She is very affectionate , good listener and very playful.. She LOVES to go run the out door yard a few times but can't wait to get back into the air conditioning!!

The vet said that I will be perfect once I finish my heartworm meds that Cody's Friends Rescue got for me. I like other dogs, children and even cats!! I am a sweet boy and love to cuddle. I love playing with chew toys and really love chewy treats. I go and hide in my foster mom’s laundry basket when I want my treat all to myself. That way no one can find me. I would make a wonderful member of your family...especially with children. I am a good boy and had a sad life before I came to this rescue. I am trusting and loving again!

      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback (short coat). Winnie is an owner surrender. We feel like she would grow and thrive if she was the only dog in the home because she has some anxiety and is nervous about new things. She is a beautiful Rhodesian/ hound (possibly mastiff) mix. She gets along with other dogs in her foster home now that she is settled in and weighs about 40 lbs. She is shy around new people, new animals, new sounds, smells. She is perfectly calm when he is in his house and his yard. Winnie just needs to be loved and protected in her forever home. She was found off of Hwy 30 and Winslow (by the fair) in pretty rough shape, but doing better already. She needs to put on a few pounds and his slight skin irritation (possibly flea allergy) needs to clear up. She is eating regularly and on antibiotics. She's got a small limp where a car may have hit him while lose on the street, but the vet says she's a very healthy girl. My foster mom describes me as very affectionate, good natured, lazy, smart, charming, silly, clumsy, cuddly, sweet, and very loyal. She just wants to sit next to you and get all the love. She enjoys going on long walks and is house trained. If you want a calm and loving dog then Winnie is the pup for you. Please submit an application to adopt at www.codysfriendsrescue.com Her adoption fee is $250 which covers a vet check, spay, microchip and vaccinations.

      Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Dylan is 55 lbs and approx 2 years old. He's a pitbull mix rescued from a local shelter. Dylan loves laying by your feet or romping around in the backyard with his 2 foster brothers (also large pitbulls). He gets along with all dogs, but might try to play too rough with smaller dogs. Shows no interest toward cats, and coexists with two cats currently. Dylan is crate trained, neutered, chipped, UTD on shots, but will need to build confidence on leash skills as he is very scared of loud or sudden noises (such as cars zooming by). Dylan loves having his chin rubbed underneath and will fall asleep with all of the weight from his head resting on your palm if you rub him. He's a very sweet dog and deserves stability and a gentle owner. I think he would lay in bed with his owner all day if he could. He does bark to alert when he needs to go outside. He is always smiling! Dylan is UTD on all vaccines, neutered and HW-. He's dog and cat friendly, but sometimes gets over excited with little dogs when playing. Dylan loves to snuggle and get belly rubs. He's a pretty quiet dog, but will let you know when it's time for a potty break. He's crate & potty trained. He currently lives with two other large male dogs and 2 cats whom he enjoys. Dylan can be a bit fearful of loud sounds and fast/sudden movement, but never reacts, he would love a home that can be patient and understanding as he continues to grow his confidence. If you're interested in possibly adopting Dylan, please go to our website (www.codysfriendsrescue.com/applications.html) and submit an Application to Adopt. It may take us a couple days to review your application and check your vet reference. After we approve your application we will contact you to schedule a meet and greet and home visit. We allow a 10-day home trial to be sure the dog is a good fit before you finalize the adoption. The adoption fee ($200, tax-deductible donation) is collected at the start of the home trial and is held until you finalize the adoption. The adoption fee covers vetting (spay/neuter and age-appropriate vaccinations) and a micro-chip. Please note: We update our Petfinder listings regularly. If you're reading this bio, this dog is still available for adoption, and we're accepting applications. We don't adopt pit bulls or pit bull mixes to people who live in apartments with breed restrictions. Please check with your rental office or landlord to see whether breed restrictions apply. Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Cody's Friends Rescue!

He is a big marshmallow who loves to cuddle with his humans, but needs to be the only dog in the family and no cats. He is great in the house, housebroken and well behaved. He does require daily exercise, loves long walks/runs, and playing fetch with his favorite Nerf football. He is a very smart boy who wants to please and will do anything for a belly rub! Gage will do best with a dog loving family with older children who are home most of the day or an individual who works from home or in the evenings. He loves being part of the family, adores his humans and wants to be where they are. He can be found quite frequently sprawled out in the middle of the bed snoozing away!

He loves to go on walks and have his belly rubbed as he smiles at you on his back. He’ll never turn down the opportunity to play fetch and plays great with other dogs (not cats though). When allowed, he enjoys curling up next to you and taking naps on your chest. Loyal. Obedient. Friendly. Loving. Toby is a year old . He loves to play chase with his foster siblings and will snuggle up close to anyone who will let him. He has just enough sass to be cute and let you know if he doesn't like something or when he wants something, but always very sweet! He is a total lover boy. Loves all sizes of dogs and is very easy. Just adorable. He has the prettiest face but hard to catch with the camera! Toby weighs about 48 lbs. He was rescued from a shelter and thought to be adopted by his foster family. At 11 months they decided they could not have another dog so Toby was abandoned. We love him and he will love you!
