More About Bulldog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Adult
      Location: Athens, AL
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). S.O.S. "EXTREMELY URGENT REQUEST FOR A FOSTER" Maya Maya is a gorgeous female Lab mix who was brought to the shelter as a stray. Her stray hold will expire tomorrow, though, so this beautiful girl should be ready to go to her new, forever home. She is a very sweet, very gentle girl, but she is terrified in the shelter, and is also terrified of the flash of a camera, so she probably also has some anxiety issues where storms, fireworks, etc., are concerned. She is another girl with a mild temperament who will need a home where she will be loved and treated with patience and love. Posted Breed: Hound (short coat). AMOS. OWNER TURN IN. NO STRAY HOLD. This gentle old soul was turned in by his owner. Poor sweet guy. He is scared but was very gentle with me while we were out in the yard. He looks like he's been outside his whole life, probably on a chain, as there was part of a chain attached to his collar. I suspect he is not as old as he looks, but that his outdoor life has been rough on his skin. I don't think his owner gave a name for him, so we named him Amos. Let's help Amos find a new wonderful life. For further information on this dog, you may contact the Athens Limestone Animal Shelter at 256-771-7889. rescue
      Breed: Bulldog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Athens, AL
Posted Breed: Bulldog (short coat). HEIDI Heidi was brought to the shelter as the result of a horrific abuse case, and a situation that resulted in the remainder of her right rear leg having to be amputated. She has recovered from the surgery and has adapted rather well to her handicap, and she has done so while keeping her beautifully sweet demeanor intact. Heidi has an absolutely beautiful soul and a very happy attitude, in spite of the neglect and horrible abuse she was subjected to. Now she is ready to go to her new home. She is an adorable big girl, and she loves people....loves to play! Heidi may have some food aggression issues, so that will have to be taken into consideration in the adoption process. It should be added that she enjoys treats and she accepts them gently and with a soft mouth, so if there is a food aggression issue, it is likely only where other dogs are involved. This beautiful girl needs a good, happy home, a home in which she will be treated with love and kindness. Darla is mature, but small for a Lab, and has been bred in the past. She is very, very sweet, though, and she really craves attention and affection.
