Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Mixed (short coat). See Cam's HomepageGo to our official websiteYou can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cam the wonder dog has a great personality but will pull hard if he sees a squirrel or rabbit on his walks so one must always be prepared. He would love to be on a farm to roam but would stay close by. Cam was flown up from North Carolina by Pilots and Paws and did great on the plane and does great in a car, just takes up a lot of space. We did his DNA and it came back with German Shepherd/Cavalier King Charles/Rottweiler hence his size. He knows basic commands by both saying and hand signals as well. He has lived on two different farms and got along with horses, goats, sheep and chickens. He loves people and wants to please. Due to his size he needs an active person/couple that understand how to handle a big dog. Older children only as he has the potential to knock a small child down without realizing it.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Middletown, MD
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Mickey was named by one of the vet techs in fact she named the whole litter of pups and did a really good job. Mickey is totally different looking from the rest of the litter. In fact, each is different from the other, amazing but not complicated as they each can have a different father. Mickey is loveable as well as stubborn. He needs his person to be diligent in training as well as loving since he can have his feelings easily hurt. He is the tender one of the group that always wants to please but also loves any ball and doesn't always want to share. He will run and run with it in his mouth no matter how big just to play keep away with the others. They soon tire but Mickey is still wanting them to chase, so funny. He is also the roly poly one of the group. Even though he looks a little chunky he is in tip top condition and truly wanting a forever home for the holidays.

      Breed: Shih Tzu
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Middletown, MD
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu (medium coat). Ricky has been returned to us due to the previous home moving overseas. He is a loveable, older dog with all his manners. He is housetrained, walks on a leash and loves to walk and is fully vetted. He was blinded in his one eye by a cat that scratched his eye in a previous home. Since he was not vetted to take care of it the scarring took a toll. However, don't feel bad for this little dynamite he is still all about being a dog. He will sit quietly on your lap or puff himself up and bark at the UPS person. He is a dog first and a lover second. He came back to us with a severe ear infection, which is being taken care of. He has been so good about the cleaning and care needed to make him healthy again. However, he wrote his letter to Santa and all he wants is a true forever home for the holidays. If looking for a fun big dog in a small package, check out our darling Ricky. An update on Ricky, he has had three surgeries on his left ear with the last one leaving him deaf in that ear only. He had a polyp that the previous family didn't take care of and it became infected rupturing the eardrum. He is now healthy and looking for that special home.

      Adeline

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Middletown, MD
Posted Breed: Hound / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Pink is for girls and since Adeline is the only female puppy in this litter we are using pink to showcase this little beauty. She is the diva for sure of this litter. She will rock and roll with the boys but prefers to do a sneak attack or grab and run with a toy. She is very smart so someone will need to put their thinking cap on to keep up with her. She loves her mom but also likes to roll in the mud with the boys. She can be a diva looking at her brothers like they are just to silly for words but then all at once she joins them and gets just as dirty. Rain doesn't stop this little beauty. She will hesitate before going out to go to the bathroom but once out, very hard to get her back in so plan on getting wet. She is in her own crate at night and is pretty good about not making a mess. Girls are like that you know. She will make someone smile every day that is lucky enough to decide to adopt Adeline.

      Henry

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Middletown, MD
Posted Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed (short coat). Henry came to us via a family that had rescued him off of a chain. They took excellent care of Henry but when they found out he was heartworm positive they reached out for help. They already had two dogs and felt it wasn't fair to their dogs to spend so much on one they knew they wouldn't be keeping. We answered their call and took Henry in. He has proven to be smart, very smart and eager to learn and please. He is only 2 years old and has totally forgiven people for what he has been through. He gets along with both dogs and cats and is a good match for an active person. He is building up his strength from the lack of exercise due to his treatment for heartworm but loves to go for long walks and would be eager to run with someone. We cannot say he is pure as there is no record of where the originally family got him from. We have based our idea of what we think he is by his intelligence, look and ability. He would also make a good search and rescue dog or could do obedience or just about anything you asked of him as he wants to please. We thought we had a home for Henry but it didn't work out so the hunt continues for that great home for a great dog. Since he was chained from the time he was a puppy a large fenced yard will be required so he never spends time on a chain again. However, if you are active and we feel you are the right fit for Henry we would consider an unfenced yard as long as you understand he is not to be confined in any way outside other than a leash.
