Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Hi there - my name is Chiwi and I'm a 10 year old Chihuahua. I'm a very good boy looking for a forever home. I have spent most of my life by myself, chained and cold in a back yard. I love people, but my owner decided she just didn't want the trouble of a dog anymore and now I'm worried that I will never find a loving home. I am a very affectionate boy who would do well in a home without other animals - I'm scared of other dogs because I may have been abused. My foster mom says I am crate trained, and I am obedient and would be a perfect companion for an older couple or a single person. I am a loving companion who likes to go in the car, cuddle, and I will take naps with you whenever you want. I am content to do anything, as long as I'm with you. I am easy to care for, and I have been thoroughly checked out by a local vet and have all my shots. Since I am older, I am not rambunctious, but I still have plenty of love and life to give. I have been lonely and scared most of my life. My one wish is to find a forever home with a person who will let me be their companion and best friend. Won't you please help me? If you would like to know more about Chiwi please contact Kristin Capeheart kcshouse2009@gmail.com Zoi's Animal Rescue Save a Life.. Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Schnauzer / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Bode, This little guy is very sweet and is in need of a lot of TLC. He was supposed to be euthanized because the owners didn't have time for him and with that he was kept in a cage/crate most all of his life. The kind people at the Vet clinic decided to give him a 2nd chance at the life he deserves ... he has come out of his shell and is learning to trust people and learning that this big world has a lot of good people in it and lots of good things ... like being loved, a long walk on a leash which he is learning to do and that riding in a car is a lot of fun. He will need someone with patience and time to let him learn all the good things that life has to offer. If you think you would like to meet Brady in person please call Zoi's Animal Rescue. Gage is a wonderful girl. She is great in the car, in the house, good on a leash and loves to run and play. She she very very smart and there isn't anything she couldn't learn if someone were willing to teach her. She already knows AND obeys lots of commands like Come, Leave It, Wait for It, etc. She doesn't take anything that is not given to her and won't even touch her food unless you tell her "OK". (Her foster mom said she sat staring at her food bowl one day because she had not been given the OK to eat it!) What a good girl! She was heartworm positive and has been successfully treated for that. Therefore, she will need to be on heartworm preventative for the rest of her life. She is a bit "iffy" around other dogs, so her foster mom thinks she would do best in a home without other dogs. As of 3/2013 Gage is about 3 years old and weighs about 66 pounds. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and is house trained. An adoption fee will be required, along with a contract and a home visit. Local adoption is preferred.
