Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: $ 175.00. Chip has come to CARE from a multi-dog home breeder. He has quickly transitioned into a house dog and loves running in the yard, playing with toys, and sleeping in the sun. He gets along great with other dogs. He can be timid around people, but is learning to trust and accept attention from his humans. He is picking up on housetraining, and is quick to learn other house rules. He is crate trained. You can apply on line at care.rescuegroups.org. Contact the foster for more information. Update: Chip is getting very affectionate, he loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed. Since he's still got a lot of puppy in him, he loves to carry toys around and chew his bone. He has received a clean bill of health from the vet and would love to find his forever home.

Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Online Adoption Application › Skittles is the sweetest little guy. He came in with fleas and his hair is a little thin because of that, but it is quickly growing back and in a couple months he will be slick and glossy. Most of his teeth were terribly infected and as a result had to be extracted. He still has his four canines, but the rest are all gone so soft food and treats are necessary. He still has a healthy appetitie and loves his softened kibble! He is a total snuggle bug and prefers being very close to or cuddled up on his human all the time. He is in a home with other dogs and gets along fine with them. He is curious about cats, but not aggressive toward them He has been around children and pretty much ignores them but a home with very small children may not be the best. We are working on leash manners. He tends to pull. A fenced yard is important. If you are interested in giving little Skittles a forever loving home, please complete an adoption application at care.rescuegroups.org.

Posted Breed: Poodle (Toy). Adoption Fee: $ 250.00. Online Adoption Application › Pongo and his best buddy Pippin didn't have the best start to their lives, along with several other small white poodles they were found abandoned in a wooded area apparently without having been socialized or having come in contact with humans. They have made a great deal of progress in learning to trust people, however they are still timid and will require a patient adoptive home. While they don't appreciate being touched and held yet, they do tolerate it and can even be groomed. A securely fenced yard will be essential - they understand that pottying happens outside but they don't quite understand being on a leash yet and are likely to flee. Pongo and Pippin find comfort in each other, play together, and follow each other around, so we would love it if they could be adopted together. If you can provide a patient, attentive, loving home for these adorable fluffy dogs, please fill out an online application, and thanks for CAREing!

      Potter

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Poodle (Miniature)
      Sex: Male Male
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat). Online Adoption Application › Potter is an approximately 3-year old miniature poodle who loves to run and play with his dog siblings at his foster house, but please note: whoever adopts this sweet, playful man will require a reserve of patience and an extra dose of TLC. Potter and his poodle siblings were found living in a wooded area alone, and we’re not sure they had much interaction with humans before coming into CARE. Potter is very excited to see his foster parents, and wags his tail and yips happily, but does not yet want to be held. Potter would work great in a home with at least one other dog, as he loves to run after his two foster siblings and play with toys. He is very willing to go into his crate each night, but he needs extra help with potty training, as he’s simply afraid of new spaces and the humans that inhabit those spaces. Once he gets into his forever home, we have no doubt that he will eventually settle in and believe that “his” humans are there to love him.
