Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: $ 175.00. Chip has come to CARE from a multi-dog home breeder. He has quickly transitioned into a house dog and loves running in the yard, playing with toys, and sleeping in the sun. He gets along great with other dogs. He can be timid around people, but is learning to trust and accept attention from his humans. He is picking up on housetraining, and is quick to learn other house rules. He is crate trained. You can apply on line at care.rescuegroups.org. Contact the foster for more information. Update: Chip is getting very affectionate, he loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed. Since he's still got a lot of puppy in him, he loves to carry toys around and chew his bone. He has received a clean bill of health from the vet and would love to find his forever home.

Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Pearl has made slow progress over the last few months, but she is calm and content. Pearl has stress and anxiety around people and will require rehab and patience to reach her full potential. Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Online Adoption Application › Cici "momma dog" is a young adult boxer that is ready for her furrever home. She is very sweet and playful. She needs a home where she would be the only pet. She is food aggressive and I'm not sure how she would do around other dogs/cats on a regular basis. I have a 2 year old that she has mildly been around but I would not trust her with small children especially with food around. When she is out playing she butt tucks and runs all over. I really think she will be a great dog, she just needs time and love.

Meg is a sweetheart who is great with kids and would love nothing more than to be a boy or girl's best friend. She adores her humans and has been known to gaze into their eyes and give them a wink! She’s a fun, outgoing gal who has loved everyone she has met. She is a good medium size and would love a home with a high, privacy fence! An active family would be a big plus! If you’re looking for a jogging companion or someone to take long walks with then Meg’s your girl! She loves leaning on her humans to show them she loves them and even likes hugs. She loves to go places and rides nicely in a vehicle. Her favorite pastime is to sit outside on nice days and stare at squirrels/birds! She's learning some commands. She is crate trained, house trained, up to date and just waiting for her forever family to sweep her off her paws! He also LOVES playing with his foster brother and racing around the house/yard. He is potty trained and crate trained. He loves his crate and sleeps quietly in it all night long. We are still working on leash training. When he came to us he had never had a collar on or had any type of training or socialization. Now he is a happy little dog who just needs a fenced yard (a must) and lots of love and excercise. He gets car sick, but I think that will pass with time.

      Breed: Shih Tzu

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $175. Online Adoption Application › Oreo is an easygoing, very low maintenace Shih Tzu. He's a small dog, but he won't jump up on you, your guests or your furniture as he prefers to nap in a dog bed on the floor. Oreo gets along very well with our two small dogs. He also enjoys being in his crate, and at night time, he will get in his crate on his own. He is potty trained, up to date on all his shots, neutered and microchipped. I think Oreo will do well in an environment where he can learn to trust and bond over time as he doesn't have a lot of experience with people. This will require patience and time, but will payoff big in rewards as my husband and I have really enjoyed seeing him blossom from a dog who stayed a good distance from us, but who now, will come over to the couch and sit politely, requesting a head rub. Oreo also really enjoys under the chin rubs. When he's really happy, he sticks out his tongue! If you would like to know more about Oreo, please contact me, Nikki Combs, or fill out an application at care.rescuegroups.org!
