Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). I Weigh a WHOLE Five Pounds! Kam was born March 22, 2005 and weighs 5 lbs. She is as cute as can be, but is a bit on the nippy side. She will need some work on house training because she came from a puppy mill where she's been popping out puppies for pet store shelves all her life. Also, Chihuahua's struggle with house training anyway and often require potty pads or maybe a litter box. She's a doll that deserves a wonderful new life if you have a little patience to send her way. Kam's foster mom says that she faithfully uses potty pads. She also LOVES other dogs and cats, and would do best with another dog. She is afraid of being on leash and is still afraid of people, but once warmed up she is a real love! Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $250.00. Can't Adopt Me? SPONSOR ME Look for the Link "Special Instructions to Seller" if you want to note a particular pet Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, a 4.5# bag of Science Diet food, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Hound / Foxhound / Mixed (short coat). Thank You Bonadio Group in Pittsford!!!!!! The Bonadio Group, 171 Sully's Trail, Pittsford, NY sponsored the transport that brought 40 dogs north out of a high kill pound in TN. The staff at his shelter do the best they can and truly love these dogs but their resources are incredibly limited. Thank you Bonadio Group, an accounting, business and financial services firm providing audit, tax and business consulting services, for making this trip, which runs about $800.00, possible!!!!! As for Patches, he weighs about 60 lbs. and was born about May 30, 2010. ~~Update from Foster Mom: Situation Needed: Seeking a DIY homeowner in need of an apprentice with unrelenting curiosity, unwavering good manners and lots of great attitude. Patches main interests are painting, cleaning, minor home repairs and yard work. He is willing to learn and try anything new, though, and will be there with you to support your home improvement efforts with a silly grin and a laid back demeanor. He enjoys being put to the task, and spending time with his people. His favorite part of any project is watching carefully while you do your thing, interspersed with some light conversation and the occasional nap. Patches skill set includes an open attitude towards everyone, cats, dogs and people alike. Patches is currently living with five cats and many dogs of different shapes, sizes and ages. He is great on the leash, and enjoys car rides … especially to Home Depot, Lowes or the Pet Store for treats and toys. Patches is house broken too! He is EXTREMELY quiet, which means you can do most of the talking and he will assume the role of the listener. He is working on his off leash skills, right now he will accompany his mom to her horse barn with a leash attached to his collar just in case. No human needed. He has been excellent about this. He is learning about horses, and is pretty unfazed by them. That is sort of his whole attitude about life, he is very laid back and enjoys being a part of whatever happens to be going on. He loves to go for walks when you are taking a break from doing projects. He is an incredibly polite, ready for anything kind of boy who knows how to relax when time permits. He is not a picky eater and is so grateful for his food (he chews slowly and seems to savor it) and his treats (which he takes oh so politely). He enjoys a good chew bone, made in the USA, of course! He sleeps through the night, but if his min pin foster sister who he is currently living with gets up at 2AM, which she often does, he will join her so she doesn’t have to go out alone. He is just that kind of a nice guy. He enjoys baths and will hold still to have his ears cleaned too! I am enamored with this pup. I have fostered a whole lot, and it is rare to find a dog who is ready for anything you throw at him, yet so polite and chill about life overall. He has a great attitude, a ton of curiosity, and he is ready to be home for the holidays with his new family. You will get so much joy out of watching Patches experience things in life, his facial expressions and attention to his surroundings are incredible. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $250.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. OK, so maybe he's not a German Shepherd mixed with Jack Russell, but LOOK at him! He is typical Jack in behavior! Bingo is very loving to us humans, but probably will do best as an only dog. He is FUNNY and FUN and ready for a whole new life! He is good on leash and loves car rides. He is a major snuggler and will adore his new humans. What a wonderful boy! This transport was sponsored by wonderful adopters, foster home, and long time volunteers the Gonska Family! We are so very thankful to them for all that they've done over the years to help with so many pets and they attend most every event graciously. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). I Am One of the Max Collection! Joyful Rescues has welcomed 28 dogs and 3 cats all to be known as the "MAX" collection, from a kill shelter in Tennessee thanks to a generous donation sponsoring the transport by MICHELLE ALESSI of Amherst, NY. Michelle chose the name in honor of her dearly departed dog, Max who Michelle referred to as "a crusty marshmallow" a little grumpy, but a sweet mush on the inside! Still, he was dearly l oved by Michelle and her late mother who now keeps watch, with Max, over Michelle and her dogs, Cleo and special needs, Gizzie. Michelle has a deep compassion for animals, especially those who are in their senior years, handicapped, or special needs. Her one request in sponsoring this transport was that we would pull at least one animal who seemed a bit of an "underdog"; so Katie pulled two! One is a dog with a deformed leg; the other a tri-pod cat with an abnormal eye. Thank you, Michelle, for helping us save so many more lives! Tabitha was born about April 1, 2013 and weighs about 50 lbs. She is absolutely adorable and has been very good with all of us. She is good with other dogs, fine in the car and on leash. This gorgeous girl has been tossed away and will be so thankful for a new home where she will be cherished! She was left at a shelter when her babies were two days old, guess she became an inconvenience. She was terrified for herself and her infants when we loaded them up to come here just a couple of days later. She was a very good Mom, surmounted the stress and kept taking care of her babies who grew to be strong and healthy and now she is looking for a new home that will love her unconditionally! Tabitha is too interested in cats to live with any. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $175.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. This pretty little girl came to us from a high kill shelter with 3 rolly polly dumplings of puppies! Monica must have had just an awful life until she came here. She was highly frightened of us humans, but once she saw how much her babies loved us she stopped running from us and we were able to touch her and then pet her and scratch all those favorite spots. She decided we were turning out to be pretty cool humans! Once she is moved again and when she is unfamiliar places and around unfamiliar humans she may regress again and will need some warm up time and be kept very safely confined until she decides she loves you as much as she loves us! She is wonderful with the other dogs. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $75.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Anastasia is a snuggler and she ADORES water! She uses the doggie door with ease. Anna, as we call her, adores her humans and she is wonderful with the other dogs. She is BUSY and has stuff to do in life. This isn't a girl that is going to lounge around napping in a crate all day. She needs a fun dog and a safe place to race and race she does. If there are kids they need to be sturdy. Deciding on breed is difficult here, but we truly feel this girl may well be part (although shrunken) Greyhound (maybe Whippet) - she moves like one. This girl is possibly the smartest dog here! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $350.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Hey, Got a Tennis Ball? Dash was born about November 18, 2011 and weighs about 20 lbs. He is absolutely adorable and about a size bigger than a Min Pin should be so probably mixed with something but we couldn't hazard a guess. He also has a delightful personality that often isn't the case for Min Pins - so very thankful he is mixed! He is wonderful with all of us, not noisy (which we love) and wonderful with children. He blends in with the other dogs as if he has lived here all his life and we are very happy to have him and you are going to be very happy you found him! He is house trained, but pulls on leash and he is good in a car. He does, however, have a bit of wanderlust if he gets the chance so a fenced yard or being walked on leash will be necessary. He loves his tennis balls and his carrots and will curl up in a blanket so that he covers himself up! He will bark at strangers coming into your home and seems a bit protective so maybe a crate or another room will be necessary when letting humans into your home. He LOVES water. He's not perfect, but we really like him and know you will too. It was nice his owners (who were moving where he couldn't join them) gave us so much information. He does love his humans, very social and snuggley and he is good with kids. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $250.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Bichon Frise (medium coat). I really love my humans and dog friends! Cuddles was born about October 9, 2009 and weighs 17 lbs. He has been wonderful with all of us and is great with children. He came with a dog buddy so it would be nice for him to live with another dog or to have a human around much of the time. We are told that they both would poop in the house at times, but they are here because their human didn't have enough time to give them a proper life so we are hoping that won't be a problem in a new home with a little work at first. He is good on leash and great in a car. Cuddles will hang with you while you are outside doing your chores and he is so cute that when his new foster mom walks in the room he does a dance and coos. Cuddles has been to Cornell for skin issues we can discuss more of if someone is truly interested. Allergy testing was done and no allergens were found. Oddly enough we have seen little trouble in the 6 weeks he's been here. We wanted to give him a chance to settle in before writing this description to see what we found out about him and yet we are unsure what to say on this topic. Anyway, he is an amazingly loving boy that is going to make someone very happy. Update: His skin did flare up and he had awful red spots and was chewing out his fur. Well, with all the vet work he had no use in us taking him to the vet so we decided to try something easy - Convenia! It is a two week injectable antibiotic. We did it once and he improved, we did it again in two week and continued improvement, then it lasted a month and he has just one little spot. We are giving one more. This one drug seems to be solving the problem and he is growing back new fur on all the old red spots. He is comfortable, really happy, and it seems that he is also very appreciative! So, as for the future...well, perhaps if this is given a few more times the problem will be completely gone OR perhaps this will have to be done on an as needed basis throughout the rest of his life. There sure are worse things and more expensive meds that many dogs need on a daily basis. It is a subq injectable so a vet may be able to give you enough for a couple doses so that you can nip any "spots" in the bud before they get inflamed. Other than this he is a healthy little guy that has had about every test done known to man. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $175.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY. He loves a nice lap to relax in and he loves going for car rides. So, Brody got to come stay with us for awhile and we sure fell head over heals quickly - you will too! Breed: Akita-Chow Chow Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chow Chow / Akita / Mixed (long coat). Found Just Over The Hill. Kuda was born about December 12, 2011 and weighs about 75 lbs. He's a beauty with all that lush, thick, fur! You've got to be the home that doesn't mind dog fur everywhere and are willing to brush him regularly. Kuda was found just over the hill from us and, sadly, no one came to claim him. He did fine on the car ride here and was fine in a crate. He does well in the pack with the other dogs, but is questionable with cats. We don't feel a home with small children is appropriate. Most Chows are relatively calm and highly devoted to their humans, but aloof with strangers. He may need a little bit to acclimate to his new home and adore his new humans. Update: We need to mention that his previous owners did appear a little later and were unable to claim him. There was no documentation, but they felt his age would have made his year of birth 2006, our vet and we are struggling with that as our guess was much younger. Kuda does still play with toys! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $150.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet.
