Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Texas Ranger...

      Breed: Pointer-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: O Fallon, MO
Posted Breed: Pointer / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Ranger is a 3 year old 3 legged Pointer/Hound mix. He was found as a stray in Texas County Missouri under a bridge after either being thrown out of a car or being hit by one and going off the bridge. Snuggle rescued him from a county shelter and brought him to St Louis to have surgery to repair a broken palate in his mouth and a broken shoulder. Surgery was successful, but after several months of therapy, he still had no feeling in his leg or foot. The leg had to be amputated. He is going great and doesn't let 3 legs hold him back. He is very sweet and loving and needs a family of his own! He can be a little bossy with other dogs till he gets to know them, but he currently lives with 4 other ones and does fine. He is a strong boy so would probably do better with older kids! All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on a flea/tick preventative. Posted Breed: Hound / Coonhound / Mixed (short coat). 1 year old blind hound mix Hi! I'm Tucker. I am a 1 year old blind hound mix that loves everyone! I weigh about 40 pounds and I'm house trained. I take seizure medicine every day, my foster mom says it is not to expensive if you buy it online.(about $25 to $50 a month) I saw the specialist the other day and they did an MRI of my head and found out that when I was a puppy I had some severe head trauma and have multiple skull fractures. The vet said I am lucky to be alive! I'm just blind, a little clumsy and eat my food way too fast and of course I have a seizure every now and then. The seizures really scare me but the vet said I should live a normal life now. I am very happy and I really like humans, and other dogs, and kids, and treats and lots of love. :) My foster mom says I am great at spreading joy and happiness. If you are interested in helping me find my forever home please put in an application at www.AllPawsRescue.info All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on a flea/tick preventative. Location: O Fallon, MO
Posted Breed: Maltese / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (long coat). Molly is a 6 year old Maltipoo who was adopted out a couple of years ago, but was returned because her owner could no longer provide her a home. She spent the first 4 years of her life in a puppy mill. She is very shy and skittish, so no small children as they make her very nervous. She would also do best with another dog in the household. She will need patience as she learns how to become a normal dog. She is housebroke, but a doggy door would serve her best she she is afraid to come in with someone standing by the door. She would need someone who has had experience with puppy mill dogs. She is a door darter so her new home must have a storm/screen door on the front door. Please give this girl a chance to melt your heart and a loving home she so deserves! All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on a flea/tick preventative. Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female

      Location: O Fallon, MO
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Shadow is a courtesy post made by All Paws Rescue, Inc. This means that we are helping the owner rehome their pet. The fees, policies and guarantees that apply to an All Paws pet do not apply to Shadow. To inquire about adopting Shadow, please contact their current owner, Eric at 314-795-2306 or All Paws representative Lisa at 314-650-0299. Shadow is a 17 month old, 50 pound, female full blooded pit bull. She has been spayed, microchipped and up to date on all shots. She is Potty Trained, has gone to "puppy class" at our local vet’s office and is a very smart girl. She does several commands and walks on a leash. She loves to please and to be praised and of course she loves treats. We have recently moved to a much smaller house and she does not do well at all with cats. We have older cats and a young kitten. Shadow would be an excellent buddy for a family without dogs or cats. Because of her size and energy, she would do best in home with no children under 10. She is still at that energetic stage. She needs a family that will have time and space for what she deserves (a fenced yard and a couch to cuddle her human on- she loves to cuddle). She is ok to sleep in a large wire crate or next to her human in bed. All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on a flea/tick preventative. Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV and dogs are tested for heartworms. Adoption fee is $110 for cats and $150 for dogs. To meet this pet, please fill out a dog application or cat application. Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Ziggy is a deaf seven-year-old male American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull) mix, with a one-track mind - FOOD. So Ziggy needs a home with food - and one where he doesn't have to worry about other dogs or cats or kids stealing his food. A single adult or couple with no children and no other pets would be ideal. Ziggy loves to do tricks, and will gladly work hard to impress your friends and family! He knows many tricks such as spin, jump, bark on command, and even how to pray. He is good with kids in supervised situations and fine with other dogs also when supervised, but should not live with other dogs full-time. Ziggy has some allergies and takes Benadryl and eats a specfic brand of food (Limited Ingredient Duck/Potato) which is sold at PetSmart and many other stores. He also has arthritis and is on a glucosamine supplement. All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on a flea/tick preventative. To adopt Dozer, please contact his current owner, Jennifer Palmer, at 314-560-6036 or by email at palmerfam4@gmail.com. Dozer is a six year old male Catahoula Leopard Dog mix in search of a loving home. He is approximately 60 lbs and has beautiful markings. He is an affectionate and cuddly dog. He is fully house trained, non-destructive and listens to basic commands. He loves to play and go for walks, but does not require tons of activity. He is kind of a couch potato, especially if it is in your lap! He is currently living with a cat and has no problems. He does not like other dogs though, he wants to sniff them but does not like it when they return the hello. Dozer needs to live in a home that does not have children around. The unpredictability of children can make him nervous and he could snap at or bite them. After bonding with his new family he will be perfect dog for an adult family that wants a loyal, loving companion. He is fixed, healthy and up to date on vaccinations.

She gets along great with all three of my dogs though she does get super excited so she would need a young dog that loves to play as much as her. Faye loves her walks and bones and has to sleep at night in bed with me and her foster siblings. She's just a big cuddle bug!!
