Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). CONTACT: UHA Adoption Coordinator Anna Garrison at 626-367-7029 or anna@hope4animals.org MEET PEANUT: Peanut is a special soul of a pup who is looking for the perfect family to call his own! Peanut is a 1-year-old tan Shorthaired Chihuahua mix puppy who was originally rescued from a high intake animal shelter and then rescued from a hoarding situation soon after. Despite his checkered past, Peanut is ready to love up on a new owner! This loving little boy enjoys laying next to you and snuggling with a few kisses thrown in for good measure! Peanut has shown an affectionate loyalty for his foster mom that is sure to carry over to his new adoptive parent(s). Peanut enjoys the company of little dogs - he is currently being fostered with FOUR other little four-legged brothers and sisters and he enjoys all of their company! Peanut's favourite thing to do is play: he has an addiction to doggie toys! So far, Peanut is an expert on a leash. Ideally, Peanut would thrive in a home with a big backyard he can explore in to do his business. So far, he is potty trained with training pads. Peanut is neutered, up to dates on shots and rabies, and microchipped. For more information on Peanut, please contact UHA Adoption Coordinator Anna Garrison at 626-367-7029 or anna@hope4animals.org

Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Bullmastiff Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Pasadena, CA
Posted Breed: Bullmastiff / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Pet Information CONTACT: UHA ADOPTION COORDINATOR KATJA AT 951-973-2757 OR AT katja@hope4animals.org Description: A4959719 Cooper | Bullmastiff/Pit Bull Mix A4959719 Cooper is a cheerful, relaxed 5-year-old fawn-with-white neutered male Bullmastiff and Pit Bull mix who was abandoned by his owner at a local veterinary office because the owner was not allowed to have dogs where he lives. Weighing just over 80 lbs, Cooper is a mellow and cooperative dog. He adores being with people and just hanging out, doing whatever you're doing. He is highly adaptable, and would be a great side-kick to keep you company at work or around the house. Cooper loves to go for rides in the car, or to have a snooze in the sun. He is relaxed around dogs of all sizes when out and about; at home, we think he would be happiest as a single dog or possibly paired with a well-matched female dog. Cooper walks decently on leash, but some additional obedience training will really help him shine; he is eager-to-please and finds treats very motivating, so additional training with him should be a breeze. Cooper has a spectacularly large head that for sure will attract attention wherever he goes; he loves to rest it on the knee of his human friends and be pet. We can't overstate how loving and gentle this boy is--just lean down for a kiss and let him show you. Cooper experienced a lifetime of neglect, so he has some longer-term health issues--but none that stop him from being a fabulous best pal! Cooper will be an awesome addition to any loving household eager to have a mellow, devoted best friend and that will offer him the care and attention he craves. Shelley and Emily have lived with the same family since they were puppies, and both girls are gentle, companionable dogs who have grown up with children and cats. Shelley and Emily are used to living outside with their own dogloo shelters, and go on daily walks and hikes. I am about 18-months-old and I am a bluenose Pit Bull mix puppy. I am full of lots of puppy energy! I adore playing with other dogs and get very excited around playtime. I currently live with FIVE other doggies who are my best friends, and I am currently being trained how to control my energy level. When I go to my new home, I will need to continue to work with trainer so I can become the best canine citizen there is! I ride very well in the car and I am currently potty trained. I know how to listen to my foster mama and will only chew on appropriate toys. I walk very well on leash, and I also know many commands! I know how to "sit," "wait," "down," "leave it," "stay", and "easy." I also know how to "shake" and "roll over" (both ways!) I get along very well with older children and can respect younger children, but I probably shouldn't live with them since I might accidentally knock them over with my puppy energy and enthusiasm. I am spayed, up to date on shots and rabies, and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting me, please contact my foster mama, Heather, at obeachgirl@yahoo.com ZULI’S VIDEO: http://youtu.be/TG8v_y7MYpQ MORE PHOTOS OF ZULI: http://on.fb.me/1smmDe6
