Because of his age and size a home with older dog savvy children is a must. To meet this baby go to www.rescuerovers.org

Chihuahua

Overview: The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.
Breed Group: Toy
Weight (lbs): 6
Height (in): 6-9
Colors: Any.
Coat: Smooth with soft, glossy hair or long with soft straight or wavy coat and fringed ears.
Character: Chihuahuas are very intelligent little dogs that are much more brave than their small size suggests. They often bond with only one person.
Temperament: This breed usually lives with other dogs and cats very easily. Children should be taught how to play with this small dog as many try to treat it as a toy.
Care: The Chihuahua requires occasional grooming with a brush and comb. Trim claws and check teeth on a regular basis. Care of the long coat entails brushing 2 to 3 times a week.
Training: This breed is eager to learn, so don't let the small size deter you from properly training him.
Activity: Chihuahuas can typically get sufficient exercise by playing indoors.
Country of Origin: Mexico
Health Issue: This breed has a short nose and large eyes, which can cause some problems (e.g., wheezing, dry eye, glaucoma). They are prone to slipped stifle, gum problems, colds, stress, and rheumatism.
Life Expectancy: about 15 or more

More About Chihuahua Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. My name is Nonna and I’m a 4 year old, 45 lb Heeler mix! I had a litter not too long ago and now that my babies have found their forever homes, it’s my turn to find mine! I’m crate trained, house trained, and I even know how to use a doggy door! I’m pretty easygoing so a daily walk and some playtime is enough exercise for me. I’m a little shy and I might take a bit to warm up to you, but once I do I’m a gentle and cuddly girl! I take a minute to warm up to other dogs as well, but I can become a playing fool once the mood hits! I wouldn’t mind having a doggy sibling as long as they are my size or bigger! I’d prefer not to live with children or cats though, as their fast movements scare me a little. I’ve been going to training classes and doggy day care which has helped me feel less scared of the world! I would love it if you could help me continue my training—I’m getting more brave every day! I fall in love fast and I’m just waiting on that special someone who feels the same for me. I promise that if you adopt me, you’ll have a sweet, playful cuddle buddy for life! If you think we’re meant for each other, please apply to meet me at rescuerovers.org!

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Well hello! Momma Betty is the name. Being fun & spunky is the game! I'm a young 4 year old Lab mix, who's looking for a family to show me the world. I'm a quirky girl who loves her toys & playing with other dogs! I'm potty & crate trained and am getting better walking on leash! Foster mom thinks I'd make a great hiking or jogging companion. I'm shy at first but warm up quickly. I'm great with kids but I don't like to be tugged or laid on. Sadly cats & I don't see eye to eye. I mean who doesn't love a game of chase?! I love to learn & would benefit from some training classes as well. I'm so ready to go on adventures with my forever family! Apply to meet me at Rescuerovers.org.

      Breed: Chihuahua

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Adoption Fee: 150.00. Meet Tabasco! T is a 6 year old male Chihuahua looking for new digs! He weighs in at a hefty 8 pounds, though he thinks he’s one of the big dogs. Tabasco is a spunky, spitfire of a guy who has independence for days. He is potty trained and crate trained, though he has great house manners. When his foster family is away, he is free to roam the house and does just fine. He is good with dogs but can get grumbly when they get in his face uninvited. He seems to prefer men if he has the choice. It does take time for him to warm up to new people and trust them to know he’s safe and not going to be harmed. He can be an insecure, unsure dog who needs patience, understanding and leadership. Given his insecurity and dislike for constant, uninvited affection at close range, it may be best he go to a home without small children. Unknown on cats but given his size and general demeanor, a meet can be easily arranged to see if they get along! He has good leash skills and will alert you of people who get within close proximity of your house. So if you’re looking for a house alarm that’s cheaper than the ADT system and a dog who just wants to hang around and watch TV nearby, apply for his adoption today!

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 150.00. My name is Mirasol, I'm a sweet dog and have a fun loving personality. One of my favorite things is cuddling next to my humans. I'm approximately 2 years old, I am crate trained and potty trained, love humans, especially ones that let me cuddle next to them in bed and on the couch. I have so much love to give but do need to be the only dog. I still need work on liking other dogs and will need an owner who understands that. My Foster Mom says I need someone who can commit to training by enrolling me in group classes. Training is for the benefit of dog and owner. I'm a great dog but I would love to learn more with my forever family. I recommend K9 Training Center or Kudos 2 Canine. If your interested in adopting me, please clink here to fill out application. http://rescuerovers.rescuegroups.org/forms/ Once approved we would love to do a meet & greet. Adoption fee is $150.00 which includes Neuter, Rabies, Microchip, DHPP, Bordatella and me for that price.

He loves new people and even new dogs, but cats like to run so therefore they must be chased. The perfect home for Monk would be one with no cats, older kids who cant be knocked over to easily in excitement as well as one that has soft beds to cuddle on. One that enjoys a mellow day of cuddles. If that is you please apply today to meet Monk at www.rescuerovers.org

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 150.00. This adorable girl is Beatrix Potter. She is a three-year-old shepherd/lab/heeler/ mutt mix. She just finished raising her puppies and did an amazing job through, what we think were, hard circumstances. We think she has lived most of her life as a stray and she is still learning to trust humans and houses. She is wary of humans but will come to you if you give her time and especially if you have food. She does like playing with other dogs and does good as part of a pack. She ignores cats, is mostly housetrained, but gets nervous in a kennel. Beatrix would do best with a family who is patient and calm and can give her time and space to continue to learn that the world is a safe place. She would do best with another dog to teach her the ropes. If you can give this sweet girl the patience and love she deserves, apply to meet her today.
