Posted Breed: Poodle (Toy) / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Please submit an application on our website: http://allbreedanimalrescue.com/adopt-a-dog/dog-adoption-application/ Let's get to know me! Name: Prissy Breed: Toy Poodle/Chihuahua Estimated Age/Birthdate: 1/1/2008 Weight: 7.8 pounds Good with Dogs: Seems to be Good with Cats: Unknown Good with men: Seems to be Good with women: Seems to be House trained: Working on it Crate trained: Yes Leash trained: Working on it Must have a fenced in yard: Would be best Adoption Fee: $225.00 Date into Rescue: 10/11/2015 Here is my story: I was surrendered to these wonderful folks as my owner could not longer care for me. She had to move into assisted living and they said we could not come. I was allowed to run free before, so I am just getting used to being inside, soft beds, and this leash thing. It is a real challenge. A fenced yard would be best since I need to go to a forever home that will work with me to lean about leashes, going for walks and overcoming my shyness. I am pretty shy, but my foster mom says that if you will go very slow with me, I will overcome it and come to you. I just had a dental on 11/3/2015, so I am ready and looking for my forever home. If you are interested in making me part of your family, please go to our web page and apply! Please submit an application on our website: http://allbreedanimalrescue.com/adopt-a-dog/dog-adoption-application/ All adopters must be 21 or older. All applicants must submit an application for review, which can take up to 14 days to process upon receipt. Once the preliminary application is approved a home visit is required to complete the adoption process. All adopters must enter into a legal and binding contract upon completion of the adoption. For adult dogs the fee is $250. For puppies the adoption fee is $300. For dogs deemed to be seniors, for their particular breed, the adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes vet exam, spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, flea prevention, worm treatment and heart worm test. All our pets are fostered in a home, are started on crate training & with dog door training. They are also socialized with other pets in their foster home by the time of adoption. Adult dogs come with a two week trial to make sure it is a good fit.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

My name is Madison and I am a mature, 12 years young, female, Shih Tzu. I weigh 9.5-10 lbs and I am Liver/Chocolate and White. I was surrendered to a shelter in rural NC when my own became too old and ill to care for me. I was surrendered with my housemate Domino. While we came in together we are not bonded, honestly I don't like him very much and I pick on him a lot. You see, if you are familiar with Shih Tzus you know that we females are royalty. The word Princess and Queen are thrown around a lot but lets not put labels on me. Here's what you need to know: I am super sweet and love to be with people. I am a semi-active and like to be in the yard with my foster family. I am house and crate trained. I am quiet. I am picky about my playmates. I like mature kids. I need a forever home to call my own for the rest of my life. So, what do you think? Is that you? His foster family uses Belly Bands to remedy this. Crate trained: Yes Leash trained: Yes Must have a fenced in yard: Preferred but not required Adoption Fee: $225 Date into Rescue: 08/22/2017 Here is my story: Hi! My name is Domino and I am a 14 year old, neutered male, Shih Tzu that weighs 12 pounds. I was surrendered, with my housemate Madison, to a shelter in rural NC when my mom became too old and ill to care for me anymore. I was horribly matted and had horrible teeth. That's all fixed now and I am good to go! I am super low key and while I came in with my housemate, she isn't very nice to me so we do not need to go together. I am fine with all the foster dogs in my foster home. I like to cuddle with those who like to. :) I am totally crate trained and I am a quiet dog. My only downfall is that I mark. To remedy this, my foster mom uses a Belly Band on me. She just takes it off when I go outside and puts it back on when I come in. It's that simple. I am just looking for a place to rest my weary bones where I don't have anything to worry about. I am just looking for a loving Shih Tzu family to call my own. Is that you? My folks were moving and they could not take me with them, so another lady agreed to take me, but she did not want a dog in her house so I lived on a chain for a short time (that was awful). Then, another lady convinced her to surrender me to these folks at ABARC. Since then, I have had a great bath, some super food and a soft bed to nap in. I also have some cool, new toys. My foster mom says that I get along well with my foster brothers and sisters, but I prefer my humans. I love to snuggle or just nap on the floor near you. If you want to take a walk, I love to do so, but I need an experienced owner who can help me with my training as I tend to pull a lot when something catches my eye.. I love to explore this great big world. I am young and we are working on my house training, as well as other puppy etiquette. I would do best in a house where I am not left alone for more than 4 hours at a time. I also am very curious, and if there is a chair nearby, I will counter surf, so Mom recommends that I stay in a crate when no one is home. No children under 12 please. Adoption Fee: 200.00 Date into Rescue: 5/17/2016 Here is my story: Life was great until my owner passed away. I went to live with my owner's children, who had no idea what to do with me (they were serious cat people), so they gave me blankets, food, water and left me in the garage. A friend of ABARC rescued me and now I am in an awesome foster home, waiting for my amazing, forever home. I am the Greeting Committee Chairman as I love to say "hi" to everyone! I am very good with other dogs, although I would prefer to be the light of your life. I am very good with cats, but not kids. Car rides are fantastic! I love to go for walks on a leash, exploring is lots of fun. I just love to go anywhere, anytime! My foster mom says I am a great walker. I can do about 2 miles at a time! My housetraining is really progressing (about 95%), I will look at my foster mom and then go sit by the door if I need to go out . My foster mom says I am very sweet and affectionate, belly rubs are a favorite. I am loyal to anyone who shows me love and affection. I am very comfortable in crowds and like other folks. Fetch is a real favorite, I will bring the ball back and give it to you. I also will respond to "go get a toy". While I do not like to sit on your lap, curling up right beside you is the best. I am a real people pleaser, and the sweetest dog ever. If you are happy, I am happy! My ideal home is one where someone is home part of the day and I will have lots of love.
