Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (long coat). Let's face it, you clicked on my picture because I am unbelievably adorable, and you wanted to know if I am the gent for you. Good news: it's true! And I probably am. So allow me to introduce myself, I'm Pixel, an extremely cute (and modest!) long-coat Chihuahua mix, and I am 12 years young. Even though I'm a bit older than your average pup, I still enjoy a good walk and will occasionally find myself with a case of the zoomies, rocketing around my foster mom's backyard. But on the leash I have exceptional manners, as one should. My foster home should have no other animals or children. I prefer to be the doggy man of the house so I can get all the attention and love from you! I also need my person to be my protector out in public. I can easily be bribed with treats but I don’t like people just coming up and sticking their hands in my face-it’s just not good manners! What I really am is a dancer! If you have treats, or small table scraps, or scratch my back in juuust the right spot, I'll do a little tap dance for you! I am also crate trained AND house trained -- see, told you I am the perfect gent! But above all, what I really am is loyal and loving. I need a forever home that will be understanding of the fact that I will need time to settle into my new home and learn to trust and love you. But once I feel comfy and safe I will love you forever and be loyal as can be. Sounds perfect, right? So what are you waiting for! To take me home, please fill out an adoption application at http://www.animalalliesrescue.org. My adoption fee is $150 and includes all of my routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention, microchip, boarding and transportation costs if applicable, along with an offer for 30 days of free 24PetWatch pet insurance!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Shih Tzu / Mixed (medium coat). Hi, my name is Trooper, and it's a really fitting name for me. I'm a little (12 pounds) 3-year-old poodle shitzu mix, and I was saved from a really terrible situation. One of my front legs was injured really badly, but despite being in pain, I welcomed my rescuers and was as sweet and gentle as can be! It turned out my leg was too injured to save, so now I'm a tri-pawed! I'm all healed from my surgery and having three legs doesn't slow me down a bit! I have a foster doggy brother and we love to run and play in the yard. I also walk really well on a leash. And if you think all this sounds great, it gets even better. I am potty trained! If I'm taken out regularly you won't see any accidents from me! I also like my crate, though if I see you home I'll want to be with you! I also have a doggy bed I like to sleep in. I love treats and toys, though I will pull apart a stuffed toy, so hard ones might be better for me. I love everyone I meet and want to cuddle and get belly rubs. I haven't met any children, but if they are respectful I bet we'd get along just fine. Along with being really cute, I'm a smart guy, too. I am learning commands. I know "sit" and "no," and I bet I can learn more. Along with people and doggies, I like cats, too. So while I might be a little different, I'm really just like any other cute little doggy looking for my own person or family to call my own. I hope that's you! If you'd like to take me home, please fill out an adoption application at this website -http://www.animalalliesrescue.org/adoption-application and choose me - Trooper! My adoption fee is $350 and includes all of my routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, FelV/FIV testing (kitties), deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention, microchip, boarding and transportation costs if applicable, along with a free* trial offer for 30 days of 24PetWatch pet insurance! *Dependent on meeting eligibility requirements: Dogs 8 weeks to 10 years of age and cats 8 weeks to 12 years of age. This offer is not currently available to residents of CA, PA or RI.

Posted Breed: Corgi / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). I know there is such thing as a scaredy-cat, but how about a scaredy-dog? Well, that's what I was at the shelter, so the wonderful people at AARF got me out and into a foster home, where I'm learning to be not so afraid. My name is Johnny and I am a two-year-old Corgi-Jack Russell terrier, and if that sounds cute, well, just take a look at my picture! I'm fifteen pounds of cuteness, and my foster mommy says five of those pounds are my ears! Okay, no Dumbo jokes. My ears are kinda adorable, don't you think? My foster mom is working with me on using a crate, but I'm still not sure about it. I'm eating in there and getting treats, but I want to come right back out! But she is patient, so maybe I will get the hang of it. What I do have the hang of is walking on a leash. I love to go for walks on a leash, even more than playing in the yard. I do well on leash, and as long as I'm taken out regularly I am potty trained. I also like to play with other doggies, so if you've got another dog that might be great! I know a few commands, including "sit" and "no." I'm also a cuddle bug who loves to snuggle with you on the couch. And I love toys, too, though I chew the ears off of soft toys. Even though I'm pretty young, I'm not that high energy. Taking leisurely walks and snuggling is just my speed. I can't wait to have a person or family to call my own, so maybe you'd like to meet me! I might be shy at first, but once you get to know me, you will wonder how you lived without me! Posted Breed: Australian Terrier / Mixed (long coat). Hi. My name is Lady B. I’m a 12-year-old Australian terrier/dachshund mix, so I have great wiry fur, very attractive ears (as you can see from my photo), and the qualities of two loyal, spunky breeds. I came to my foster home from a Louisiana veterinarian and have been here since the middle of March. I have a crate of my own here where I feel very safe, something I haven’t felt for, well, nobody knows how long. So many things here I enjoy, like walking on the leash, which I am really good at. And I have made some great dog and cat friends. I’m a bit older, so my eyes aren’t what they used to be. But my taste buds are in great working order: I love food, especially if it’s soft because hard food and treats are difficult for me to chew. Right now I’m very shy, but my foster mom thinks when I start to feel comfortable with all the new things in my life, I’ll come out of my shell. As I’m somewhat fragile, adults and older kids are best for me. I’m hoping a calm, patient person will come soon to take me to my forever home. I know that’s what I need to let out all the love I have to share. If you'd like to take me home, please fill out an adoption application at this website—http://www.animalalliesrescue.org/adoption-application and choose me—Lady B! Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Hello! I'm Uncle Buck, and am even nicer (and way more gentle!) than that guy who played me in the movies! I'm an old man who has had a busy life and am now ready to curl up next to you on the couch and keep you warm! I can't get enough pets, cuddles, and snuggles, and I'm very gentle with everyone I meet! I like humans of all shapes, ages, and sizes, but I need a home without cats. I like other dogs, but sometimes young, energetic dogs wear me out! I prefer other dogs who are calmer and more relaxed, like me. I'm pretty skinny right now, but luckily I love treats (and take them very gently from your hand)! I'm pretty smart and can walk politely on the leash and sit for treats. As an older chap, I have some age-appropriate concerns (cataracts and weakness in my hind legs) but since we'll mostly be cuddled up on the couch together, it shouldn't be too much of an issue! I've also overheard some rude comments about my breath, but if you could help me brush my teeth, I'm sure that inconvenience could be easily remedied! I'm not a huge fan of crates and I get very nervous when put in one, which leads me to bark and have some accidents. I'd love to be with someone who's able to be home with me for most of the day. What sounds better than spending our days eating snacks and cuddling on the couch? Not much too me! My adoption fee is $150.00 and includes all of my routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, FelV/FIV testing (kitties), deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention, microchip, boarding and transportation costs if applicable, along with a free *trial offer for 30 days of 24PetWatch pet insurance! *Dependent on meeting eligibility requirements: Dogs 8 weeks to 10 years of age and cats 8 weeks to 12 years of age. Due to my age and some muscle tone issues in my back and hind leg muscles, I'm not very active. But that just means I'm not looking to go on a 5 mile jog -- however I love my people and will happily follow you wherever you go! Short walks in the fresh air are like heaven on earth for me. I love to use my beagle nose! Other great things about me include: I just love to be petted, I have never turned down a snack, and did I mention that I really love people?! In fact, if you're hanging out in one room I will lay quietly and contentedly close by, enjoying the pleasure of your company and a cozy bed. Because I am a gentleman, I don't chew or mess up the house. I will tell you when I need to go out but I can't hold my pee for more than 5 or 6 hours during the day. I do sleep soundly all night and wake with big a doggie smile while I stretch and wait for you to say hi to me! I love to give kisses to everyone, and I even enjoy the company of older, respectful children. Do you have the perfect house for me to retire to? Come meet me and let's find out! Posted Breed: Belgian Shepherd Dog Sheepdog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. THIS IS A COURTESY POST - FOR INFORMATION ABOUT BABY PLEASE CONTACT AMBROSIA AT ambrosiandrews@gmail.com . Hello! My name is Baby and I am a spayed and chipped 7-year-old Belgian Shepard Labrador mix. I am up to date with my vaccinations and flea medication. I am also crate and potty trained. I LOVE to be brushed because it relaxes me and makes me feel safe. My owner jokes that I am a circus dog because I have a tendency to jump very high in one place when I'm excited! I have a prance in my step and love nothing more than to be my owner’s shadow. I get a little persistent with my kisses but I like to show you how much I love you! Thank you for taking me home with you! Love, Baby Baby is a loyal and protective dog who is at her best when she has purpose and a job to do. At times, she can seem somewhat aloof around strangers but with the right structure and patience she will interact with others. Baby would be a perfect dog for someone who is firm and able to establish trust with her. Her ideal environment would be in an organized, loving household hanging out with and watching over her owner(s). She is an independent dog who enjoys going on hikes, hunting critters and patrolling the backyard. Equally, she enjoys staying close to her master- she will follow you from room to room and always wants to know what you are doing next. On occasion, she will engage in typical dog activities, like attempting to play catch, but she is more likely to make you laugh at her awkwardness, than actually succeed at catching or fetching! However, Baby is very energetic and always keeps busy, unless the job at hand is to lay by your side and offer her support to you. Baby will do best in a household where she is the only dog and pet in the home and where there are no children. If there are children, it would be best that they are over the age of 14 and able to direct her in the appropriate way. She has dry skin on her back and by her tail which gets very sensitive, so she needs a daily supplement of fish oil in her food. Without this, she will have dandruff and her skin will be very sensitive. She loves the taste of fish oil so giving her this supplement will be no problem. She can be somewhat fickle about eating, but will stick to a routine once established. All in all, Baby is a good girl who is very curious and loves companionship, in turn she will offer you loyalty and love and all the kisses you can take.
