Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Feist / Mixed (short coat). Chrissy is an adorable light tan, short haired fun loving, lap hugging dainty little gal looking for a forever home with her daughter Rosalee. Chrissy LOVES daily walks, sleeping with her people and ample lap time. She’s a perfect lady on and off the leash. Chrissy is spayed and crate trained she is well-socialized and gets along with every dog, cat, and kid she’s ever met. However she is looking for a home with either teens or adults, not because she doesn’t like kids, but because she deserves to be the baby of the family. Chrissy can be slow to warm up and quite shy at first, but given time to warm up she will be your best companion. Chrissy is looking for a new home due to no fault of her own. Her family is not home enough to give her the time she deserves. She is 7 years old and weighs 10#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

    • Doberman Pinscher Dog For Adoption in Battle Ground, WA, USA

      Misty

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Doberman Pinscher
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Misty is an amazing girl. She wants to learn at her own speed. She is working on her confidence. She is great with some dogs but pushy, so I would say no small dogs. She is best when she has been running for at least an hour. Misty will be a great dog for someone that needs a daily running partner. If she is not exercised daily she may become destructive. No cats or chickens for this girl as she does have a prey drive. She knows sit, and working on come, but no formal training. No accidents in the house as long as I put her out or she is in a very large kennel. She is barrier reactive, so currently she is being fed in the large kennel in the living room with several other dogs being fed in kennels or rooms. Misty was a stray that spent over a month at the shelter before we pulled her and brought her into our foster program. She is 3 years old and weighs 55#. Misty is waiting to become the dog we know she can bloom into. Are you the family to help make that happen? If you are interested in adopting her please fill out an app at www.sccpets.com.

      Marley

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Marley is a bundle of sweet, playful love. He should not be housed with cats or aggressive male dogs but plays nicely with other dogs. Marley loves children and loves to run. Sometimes it takes a treat to persuade him to come to you when off leash so he does need a fenced yard. Marley is house trained but not crate trained but at his age he’s past the puppy chewing stage. Owners living situation will be changing soon and he needs a new home - owners are going to be selective about who gets this boy because they love him. He is 6 years old and weighs 110#. If you have the need of a large fluff ball in your home please complete an application on our website. Once you’re approved you will be connected with his family to set up a Meet and Greet.

      Kermit

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Shepherd
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Kermit’s mom is very upset that she has to re-home him but for the sake of the cats in the house, she has to do it. Try as they will, he just can’t seem to ignore the cats long enough to have it work out. He’s had extensive training and knows many commands and would make a great agility dog for someone who DOESN’T HAVE CATS OR ANY OTHER ANIMALS. He is also very reactive to other dogs so it is recommended that he be an only child. Not sure how he would do with young children but lives with, and does well with, older children. We suspect he would try to herd smaller children so a home without cats and little ones would be the best bet. As is typical of his breed, he is very high energy. He is a beautiful dog and will make someone who has the time to work with him a wonderful pet. If you would like to meet him please fill out an application on our website. He is 1 1/2 years old and weighs 45#.

      Eli

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Chiweenie
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Eli is a lap-loving, people-oriented dog (with women, children and men) with a long Dachshund-type body and beautiful chocolate-and-tan coat. He’s house trained and enjoys earning his meals food through positive training. He’s learning name attention, sit and come when called. He’s a bit timid but already starting to warm up and relax after just two days with us. At this point he’s mellowing out on barking and growling at our cat, so I think he can adjust and learn that cats are family members too. He comes with a complimentary training consultation. His adoption fee will be $150. If you would like to meet Eli, please complete an application, and then we can set up a meet & greet with the whole family. He is 2 years old and weighs 9#.

      Bear

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Kelpie-Husky Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Kelpie / Husky / Mixed (short coat). Bear is a mix of Cattle dog, Husky and Lab per the DNA test that was done. He has the personality of a typical herding dog and needs someone who can get him the exercise he requires and give him a job to do. He has been trained by a local trainer that offers a lifetime guarantee for problems. Bear is house trained, but may mark if not supervised and sleeps in a crate in the garage. Bear seems to be okay with young children but is used to older kids, enjoying roughhousing with them and playing tug-of-war. Owner feels he would make a great herding dog for someone who has time to train him as he as shown natural ability for it. Bear does have a strong prey drive so a home with cats, bunnies, or very small dogs might not be a good fit. He is 3 years old and weighs 46#.

      Sheba

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sheba is a wonder dog, we wonder what she is! A true Heinz 57 or better known as mutt, Sheba is a beige and brown short haired variety. But many of us know mutts can be the very best dogs! Sheba is already a playful friend to dogs and cats and does okay with dog-respecting older children; she is housetrained and knows basic obedience, she sleeps in her bed and comes when called....what more could you ask? She can be both timid and protective in a sweet way, and loves to spend time with her people. She is looking for a family without children under five who have plenty of time to devote to a new family member and have a fully fenced yard. Does this sound like you? She is 6 years old and weighs 35#.

      Opal

      verified

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Opal is a very sweet, very timid girl. She was found as a stray so all we know for certain is that she’s had at least one litter of puppies. Opal has been in foster care for a while and is doing well. She likes going to the dog park and playing chase so another active dog in the home would be ideal. She’s very affectionate and takes treats like she can’t believe her good fortune. She does have some allergies we are still trying to identify and will need a good quality food. She is frightened by sudden movements and loud noises so she wouldn’t do well with children, although her reaction is simply to run and hide. She is also afraid of men but may warm up in time. She will bark at cats but has never tried to harm one and she is housebroken. We’ve been working on socialization and new experiences but Opal may never be a confident, outgoing dog. However, she will reward her new protector with love, kisses, and a snuggle buddy at bedtime. We think she is about 6 years old and she weighs 55#.
