Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Feist / Mixed (short coat). Chrissy is an adorable light tan, short haired fun loving, lap hugging dainty little gal looking for a forever home with her daughter Rosalee. Chrissy LOVES daily walks, sleeping with her people and ample lap time. She’s a perfect lady on and off the leash. Chrissy is spayed and crate trained she is well-socialized and gets along with every dog, cat, and kid she’s ever met. However she is looking for a home with either teens or adults, not because she doesn’t like kids, but because she deserves to be the baby of the family. Chrissy can be slow to warm up and quite shy at first, but given time to warm up she will be your best companion. Chrissy is looking for a new home due to no fault of her own. Her family is not home enough to give her the time she deserves. She is 7 years old and weighs 10#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Johnny and his brother, Kyogore, have been living with someone who inherited them from a family member but she can’t give them the care and exercise that they need. These are big, strong boys who need exercise. They are indoor/outdoor dogs and sleep in the house, wiping their feet when they come in the house. They are house trained but not crate trained. Owner says dog savvy kids should be okay. They do become excitable with new dogs and have not been exposed to cats. There have been some skin allergies not determined, but treated with meds they have been manageable. Owner may consider adopting them separately but would like them to stay together if possible. They are 1 1/2 years old and weigh 90#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

He’s a little leery of children due to a bad experience but will warm up if they are gentle. He will chase cats if they run but probably wouldn’t hurt them. Mocha

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Little Mocha has a coat color to match his name; Combined with his tiny white feet and chest, he’s quite a handsome boy. He was originally rescued from a situation that had this tiny little boy confined to an unsanitary igloo in a backyard, he was then adopted by a couple who got divorced and neither of them could take him so he came back to his original rescuer. She would really like to find him a good fur-ever home so he can enjoy his life. He is good with other dogs (he lives at a dog sitter’s house), ignores the cats and does okay with children. He has had his shots but the veterinarian has recommended that he not receive any more without some research because he had a bad reaction to the last ones. He is house trained, likes to sleep with his human and enjoys going for bike rides in his basket. He will need a dental sometime soon but is in good health. If you are interested in meeting this handsome guy please fill out an application on our website. He is 12 years old and weighs 9#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

      Hennessy

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Hennessy and his owner are currently homeless and living in a van. He may be Lab and Pit Mix, paternity is sketchy. He is a sweet boy but does tend to be protective of his people, protecting them from both people and other animals. He has learned how to go over fences so a tall sturdy fence would be in order for him. He needs updated on his shots but the owner can’t afford that right now so when adopted he will need a trip to the vet for a checkup and some shots. Owner says he was great with her four children but is not good with other dogs and cats and is a renowned squirrel chaser. If you think you can help this guy out so he doesn’t end up at the Humane Society please fill out an application on our website. He is 5 years old and weighs 80#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

      Opal

      rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Battle Ground, WA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Opal is a very sweet, very timid girl. She was found as a stray so all we know for certain is that she’s had at least one litter of puppies. Opal has been in foster care for a while and is doing well. She likes going to the dog park and playing chase so another active dog in the home would be ideal. She’s very affectionate and takes treats like she can’t believe her good fortune. She does have some allergies we are still trying to identify and will need a good quality food. She is frightened by sudden movements and loud noises so she wouldn’t do well with children, although her reaction is simply to run and hide. She is also afraid of men but may warm up in time. She will bark at cats but has never tried to harm one and she is housebroken. We’ve been working on socialization and new experiences but Opal may never be a confident, outgoing dog. However, she will reward her new protector with love, kisses, and a snuggle buddy at bedtime. We think she is about 4-5 years old and she weighs 55#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.
