Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Feist / Mixed (short coat). Chrissy is an adorable light tan, short haired fun loving, lap hugging dainty little gal looking for a forever home with her daughter Rosalee. Chrissy LOVES daily walks, sleeping with her people and ample lap time. She’s a perfect lady on and off the leash. Chrissy is spayed and crate trained she is well-socialized and gets along with every dog, cat, and kid she’s ever met. However she is looking for a home with either teens or adults, not because she doesn’t like kids, but because she deserves to be the baby of the family. Chrissy can be slow to warm up and quite shy at first, but given time to warm up she will be your best companion. Chrissy is looking for a new home due to no fault of her own. Her family is not home enough to give her the time she deserves. She is 7 years old and weighs 10#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Jasper

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Jasper was born on 8-6-2010. He is a purebred German Shepherd. We have his original puppy papers to register him but he was never registered. Jasper would LOVE to be part of a family with kids and people who could give him attention and training. He can be active but also a very loveble dog! One more thing he loves to do is hold hands! He will place his paw on your leg and expects you to “hold hands”. It’s super cute! Jasper was kennel trained till about 3 yrs old. At that point, he slept in the bedroom with his family. He is fully house trained and mostly is an inside dog. He LOVES tennis balls. Anything that you throw he will retrieve, Frisbee, pinecones, etc. He has been taken on walks, but his owners use a pinch collar as they didn’t know how he would do. Normally, he will just avoid an animal on the walks. He has never been around cats so we don’t know how he would do. He does love to bark at them through the window. He will bark at the chickens in the coop, but does not claw the cage. Jasper is very cautious when people come to the house for the first time. Normally, he gives a warning bark. He has NEVER attacked anyone. But as soon as he knows you, he loves you. Jasper has an overall mellow disposition and is willing to please, so he will be a nice, obedient dog with some training. He would do best in a yard with a high fence and some room to run. He did do fence fighting after a neighbor decided to get a female German Shepherd. He weighs 85#.

      Addie

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Addie is a very loving and very small Chihuahua girl at only 4.7lbs! She has had a long hard journey to get to where she is now today. The vets best guess on her age is around 6 years. We do not have much info on her past as she was found as a stray and never claimed. We do know however she was first found in California with her two newborn babies. Then she was transferred up to northern Washington then here to Southwest Washington. SCC pulled her from the SWHS to make sure she finds her perfect forever home. Addie loves to be with her people and is a total lap dog. She is good with children but again is very small so needs children who are respectful of small dogs. Addie is looking for a home where someone is home most of the time. She does not like to be left alone very much. She will go into a crate but is not the biggest fan of them. Addie likes to sleep with her people in bed and snuggle under the covers. Addie is good with other dogs but needs a proper introduction as she can be a little scared at first. Addie has had a lot of her top teeth removed. Small dogs especially Chihuahuas tend to not have the best teeth. She will need regular dental cleanings and checkups. Addie also has a luxating patella on her hind left leg. It has been checked out by the vet and it is not a concern at this time but just something to be aware of and keep an eye on. It does not bother her in any way. She may need a prescription diet due to a sensitive stomach. Addie is a very sweet girl and will make her new family very happy. She is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. If you would like to meet our precious girl please fill out a full application at www.scccpets.com her adoption donation is $75.

      rescue
      Breed: English Foxhound
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Foxhound (short coat). Hank is pretty smart. He knows sit, shake, lay down, back up, etc. He is mostly an indoor dog and is house trained and great with kids. He is very loving, likes to lay his head in your lap asking for loves but is also somewhat protective and will bark at people and other animals in the street. He is not very friendly with new dogs until he gets to know them but has lived with two dogs and done okay with them. Cats are an unknown entity as he’s not been around them but has lived with chickens and rabbits without hurting them. He is the distinctive hound tricolor. If you are interested in meeting this bad boy in order to see if he’s a good fit for your household please fill out an adoption application on our website. Owner can only keep until October 1. He is 6 years old and weighs 75#.

      rescue
Breed: Cocker Spaniel-Jack Russell Terrier Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Cocker Spaniel / Mixed (short coat). Diesel is Jack Russell and Cocker Spaniel but has the personality of a Jack Russell so he has plenty of energy. He knows a few tricks and will love spending time showing off. He has lived with small children but he gets anxious around new people so exposure to few little ones would be best. He thrives on exercise so someone who likes to run would be a good fit for him. He will take off if not in a fenced yard so learning to come when called would be something you would want to work on. He is house and crate trained. If you are interested in meeting him please fill our an application on our website so we can hook you up. He is 3 years old and weighs 25#.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Opal is a very sweet, very timid girl. She was found as a stray so all we know for certain is that she’s had at least one litter of puppies. Opal has been in foster care for a while and is doing well. She likes going to the dog park and playing chase so another active dog in the home would be ideal. She’s very affectionate and takes treats like she can’t believe her good fortune. She does have some allergies we are still trying to identify and will need a good quality food. She is frightened by sudden movements and loud noises so she wouldn’t do well with children, although her reaction is simply to run and hide. She is also afraid of men but may warm up in time. She will bark at cats but has never tried to harm one and she is housebroken. We’ve been working on socialization and new experiences but Opal may never be a confident, outgoing dog. However, she will reward her new protector with love, kisses, and a snuggle buddy at bedtime. We think she is about 6 years old and she weighs 55#.
