Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Feist / Mixed (short coat). Chrissy is an adorable light tan, short haired fun loving, lap hugging dainty little gal looking for a forever home with her daughter Rosalee. Chrissy LOVES daily walks, sleeping with her people and ample lap time. She’s a perfect lady on and off the leash. Chrissy is spayed and crate trained she is well-socialized and gets along with every dog, cat, and kid she’s ever met. However she is looking for a home with either teens or adults, not because she doesn’t like kids, but because she deserves to be the baby of the family. Chrissy can be slow to warm up and quite shy at first, but given time to warm up she will be your best companion. Chrissy is looking for a new home due to no fault of her own. Her family is not home enough to give her the time she deserves. She is 7 years old and weighs 10#. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Pip

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Xoloitzcuintle/Mexican Hairless / Mixed (short coat). Pip (also called Mr. Pip or Pip Squeak), hails from Honolulu and is a fun, confident, well-adjusted little guy who’s full of life, has a typical bossy Chihuahua attitude, loves to play with other small dogs, and zoom around the house running laps! You’ll see and feel the Xolo part of him because his whole underside is naked! He adores a warm lap, will need sweaters in fall/winter weather, is house trained, crate/confinement trained, toy and food motivated, and smart -- which means he’s easy to train. He’s already learning his name and coming when called. He’s a little more timid on walks and not good at meeting other dogs on leash (more defensive on-leash, which is common), but fine off-leash. He’s just getting used to cats: sometimes fine, other times gives chase. He’s been neutered, UTD on vaccines, and recently had his nails trimmed. He comes with a complimentary training consultation. He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 7#.

      Breed: Chiranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Meet Chachi, This little guy is sweet and loves attention. Don't let him fool you he LOVES to play, he still thinks he's a puppy and loves to go to the dog park. Chachi loves meeting other dogs but will be shy at first and then they are his best friend. He walks well on a leash but also enjoys a yard if he has one. Chachi is house trained and crate trained. He has had some knee issues in the past, apparently, it's very common in little dogs for this type of knee ligament situation. Glucosamine chews are given daily but he runs and plays with the big dog at foster, goes up and down the steps, and shows no sign of limping. He can handle being walked a few times a day for 20-30+ mins each time and still have energy to play and his knee won't bother him. He's microchipped and ready to go to a new home - his owner was unable to continue to care for him. We are working on "Come", it seems to have been a neglected part of his training. If you are looking for 13 pounds of cute companionship, of a playful cuddle bug you won't be you will not be disappointed. He is 8 years old.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Danny is an amazing dog from a hoarding rescue who is incredibly resilient and looking for his special forever home! He is 6 years old and a little bit of a butterball. He loves walks on leash but mostly wants a lap to lay in or next to. He warms up very quickly to anyone he meets. Danny would be happy in a home with or without any kitty friends. He is currently living with two cats and shows no interest whatsoever. He is crate trained and potty trained. Danny will need a home with a secure fenced yard; he will find a way out if it's possible for him. Otherwise Danny would be very happy as an apartment dog. He is good with kids of all ages and is happy for their tender and gentle love and affection. Danny is microchipped. Breed: Shih Tzu
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu (long coat). Max is a sweet blonde shih tzu with lots of spunk. He lived his whole life with one owner, who recently passed away. Max and his mama Lexi are looking for a new home together. They are a mellow pair but love attention and playing. They like to get cozy & sleep on top of the sheets on the bed. They play very well together and enjoy being around other dogs and chasing balls. Max also likes to chase cats, so he would do best in a home with no cat or a cat that can show him he’s not the boss. This playful pair does great in the yard and comes when called, but they do need a home with a fence. They love kids and really appreciate people of all types! They are housebroken as long as you can stay on top of letting them outside to do their business. They are great about being left in the house alone and know not to mess with things they’re not supposed to. They will have their vaccines up to date for adoption. If you are interested in a wonderful pair of little companion dogs, Max and Lexi are a great option for you!

Breed: Cocker Spaniel-Jack Russell Terrier Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Cocker Spaniel / Mixed (short coat). Diesel is Jack Russell and Cocker Spaniel but has the personality of a Jack Russell so he has plenty of energy. He knows a few tricks and will love spending time showing off. He has lived with small children but he gets anxious around new people so exposure to few little ones would be best. He thrives on exercise so someone who likes to run would be a good fit for him. He will take off if not in a fenced yard so learning to come when called would be something you would want to work on. He is house and crate trained. If you are interested in meeting him please fill our an application on our website so we can hook you up. He is 3 years old and weighs 25#.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Opal is a very sweet, very timid girl. She was found as a stray so all we know for certain is that she’s had at least one litter of puppies. Opal has been in foster care for a while and is doing well. She likes going to the dog park and playing chase so another active dog in the home would be ideal. She’s very affectionate and takes treats like she can’t believe her good fortune. She does have some allergies we are still trying to identify and will need a good quality food. She is frightened by sudden movements and loud noises so she wouldn’t do well with children, although her reaction is simply to run and hide. She is also afraid of men but may warm up in time. She will bark at cats but has never tried to harm one and she is housebroken. We’ve been working on socialization and new experiences but Opal may never be a confident, outgoing dog. However, she will reward her new protector with love, kisses, and a snuggle buddy at bedtime. We think she is about 6 years old and she weighs 55#.

      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Bailey is a sweet playful American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a pretty fawn coat and black markings. She loves being around people and is used to being around older kids. She has lived with cats and tends to try to chase them. She enjoys hanging out outside and chewing on bones and kong toys filled with peanut butter, although she really needs a fenced in yard. Bailey is used to sleeping in her crate at night with the door open, this is her safe place. She crawls into her crate and just tucks herself in. She loves to chase the ball outside but is still learning that she needs to bring it back and not just chew it up! This girl needs an owner that is familiar with positive reinforcement training. Bailey is potentially dog aggressive with other dogs that she feels fearful of or who show signs of dominance or aggression. She needs a home where she can be exposed to new things and gently reinforced on how to behave to reduce her anxiety. Bailey is house trained and has had some additional training classes. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. If you are interested in meeting her please fill out an adoption application on our website. Her adoption donation will be $100.00. She is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 35#.
