Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Lucky came into our rescue group with his mom Jazz and brother Precious. Lucky's very sweet but shy around new people at first; it will take him more than a few days to get used to a new family and a bit of patience goes a long way. He'd probably do best in a home with out very young children as loud noises and fast motions can scare him, though Lucky has been doing very well at Petco adoption days and is already leash, crate and house trained. As with all our rescue dogs, Lucky has been neutered and is current on his vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention. Lucky's adoption fee is just $95.00 plus a one-time charge of $10.99 for his lifetime, transferable microchip registration with HomeAgain. If you think you might be the lucky one to call this cute little guy yours, please click on the arrow icon/link above for an online application. Once approved, we'll gladly arrange a time for you to meet this delightful dog in person. Thanks for offering a rescue pet a home!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Trisha

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Chiweenie
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Baby
      Location: Conroe, TX
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Little Trisha and her brother Garth were rescued from rough conditions by an SPCA volunteer. They are truly mixed breed pups, mostly Dachshund-Chihuahua (Chiweenie), though we're told they have a small Shepherd-Dalmation grandparent! With improved care, they are both thriving and loving all the attention they're getting. However, due to their small size and young age they'd do best in a home with older children and adults. As with all our rescue dogs, Trisha and Garth have been neutered/spayed, and are up to date on their vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention. Their adoption fee is just $95.00 each, plus a one-time charge of $10.99 for a lifetime microchip registration with HomeAgain. If you'd love to call one of these adorable pups a member of your family, please click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online adoption application. Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Conroe, TX
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Here's Marla, a sweet Chihuahua mix eager to love and cuddle with anyone! We've never seen a calmer, more outgoing little girl who only wants to be with people, though she's fine with other dogs and even cats. However, due to her own small size she'd do best in a home without very young children. We think that due to some scolding she received in her previous home, Marla concluded going potty anywhere is a bad thing! So she's now working with an SPCA foster, who's providing better house-training cues and so far, no problems. Marla has been spayed and is current on her vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $125 plus an additional one-time charge of $10.99 for her lifetime microchip registration with HomeAgain. If you'd welcome Marla into your family and onto your lap, please click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online adoption application.

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Conroe, TX
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Hennessy, an 18 month old yellow Lab mix boy (with maybe some American Eskimo/Spitz or Samoyed?) who seems to love everyone he meets. He's a medium sized dog (about 45 lbs) and gets along well with other dogs and kids. His foster reports that Hennessy is doing great on his leash and house training and is already reliably crate trained. Hennessy is current on shots and worming, has been neutered and tested negative for heartworms, so now all he needs is a new home to call his own. Hennessy's adoption fee is just $95.00 plus a one-time charge of $10.99 for his lifetime microchip registration with HomeAgain. If you think he might make a wonderful new companion for you please fill out an online adoption application (click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page). Once approved, we'll be glad to set up a time for you to come and meet him in person. Thank you for considering one of our rescue pets!

      rescue
      Breed: Borador
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Conroe, TX
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat). 1 of 5 pups rescued by Clayton summer 2014 Gordo appears to have some Lab and Border Collie ancestry, though he may also be a prime example of the famous Heinz 57 breed concept! But the outcome is cute and he's intelligent, playful and affectionate--a great family companion in the making! He's been well behaved at Petco Adoption Day events, and even completed a basic obedience course, though he remains a sensitive and somewhat shy dog with all the commotion. Gordo's foster mom says he does well on leash and with patience could learn, and would love, to go for runs or walks on a quiet street. Gordo loves being around his human companion and feels very secure in his crate, his preferred place in the house. He can be left for several hours in the crate with no problem. He tolerates the resident cats, and would probably be happy as an only pet. He loves attention and is learning to give love in return. An adoption fee of $95 includes completed neuter surgery, up to date vaccinations, heartworm prevention, worming and flea control. A one-time charge of $10.99 covers the cost of his lifetime, transferable microchip registration with Home Again. If you would welcome this sweet guy into your family, please go to our www.spcaofmc.com home page, then click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online adoption application. Breed: Black Mouth Cur-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Conroe, TX
Posted Breed: Black Mouth Cur / Hound / Mixed (short coat). This adorable, calm and friendly pup named Ezra is as mixed breed as they come--our best guess is some Black Mouth Cur and possibly hound. The Black Mouth Cur breed makes for great family dogs that are both sensitive and social, best bonded with their people before training begins. The BMC thrives with human companionship, daily routines and free access to at least an acre of yard. These dogs will NOT be happy spending the day on the couch alone! Ezra still has a lot of puppy in him but he is already trained to walk well on a leash and knows basic obediance commands. We think Ezra should mature into a medium sized adult (around 45 to 50 lb). Right now he's at that gangly stage but is quite well-behaved considering he was just picked up as a stray. His adoption fee of $95.00 includes completed neuter surgery and he's up to date on vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention. There's an additional one-time charge of $10.99 to cover the cost of his lifetime transferable microchip registration with HomeAgain. Ezra will be ready to go to a new home around November 14 (he's going to be a star in our Doggies & Divas event on November 12th!). If you'd love to have Ezra at your side furever, please click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online application. Ezra thanks you for picking a rescue pet!

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Bullit is the poster dog for retaining a sweet, loving and trusting attitude despite being first abandoned by his family and then shot by a neighbor! (See details of his story under Sponsorship.) Now receiving extra TLC in his foster home, this calm and intelligent guy is discovering that indoor life can be quite delightful. Once he receives a reasonably clean bill of health from our veterinarian (possibly as early as late June), Bullit should be ready for adoption. His adoption fee of $95 includes completed neuter surgery and he's current on vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention. An additional one-time charge of $10.99 covers the cost of his lifetime, transferable microchip registration with HomeAgain. Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Meet Katie Sue, an energetic and fun loving young adult that loves to give kisses and be around people. She is crate, leash and house trained with a doggie door. She has also completed her basic obediance training class at Conroe Petco. Once adopted her new family can take her back for the six week course at not cost. Her build is heavy like a Rottie's and she does have a bobbed tail. This girl is a large dog, weighing in about 60 lbs. She loves to play ball and go for walks and jogs. Katie Sue gets along well with other pets, and though well behaved in the house, needs some outdoor space to exercise. She's been spayed, microchipped and is current on her vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $95.
