Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Dear Forever Person/Persons, I know you've been looking for me, and I've been looking for you!! I've got my bag packed and I'm ready to come home! I even put on a fancy good luck tie just hoping it might help us find each other :) . I'm Jerry a healthy short-hair Chi mix! I love to sleep under the covers with you, and love taking walks! I require a special diet but goodness knows, I love to eat! I currently live with a bunny and we both like carrots! I am also good with dogs and cats. I weigh about 12 lbs, and best guess is that I'm around 10-12 years old - don't let my age make you question me though - I've got plenty of spunk and years left - you'll see! Even though I'm so excited to meet you, come home, and love you, I just ask for a little patience - moving from my foster to forever home could just take me a minute to get used to. I'm ready and excited to meet you, forever person! I love you already! See you soon! Jerry xoxo Every Underdog has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, flea/tick treated, de-wormed, and received rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo vaccines. All dogs have had a recent visit to the vet as well. Jerry's adoption fee is $200 We offer a 10% discount for seniors, veterans and students. All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have an adoption application, we check references and visit your home as part of our adoption process. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Have you always wanted a mini pet deer? Here is your chance. Meet little Tobias. A golden short coat Chihuahua mix boy around 4 Yrs. old. and 8 Lbs. Tobias has been through a lot in his short four years, b ut despite that he has got so much love to give. He’s growing more confident every day. Look into his big brown eyes and say goodbye to your heart. Tobias likes nothing better than to curl up next to you on the couch, and you should see that tail wag when it’s time for a walk or a car trip. He’s quiet, well-mannered. Excellent on the leash and in the car. Doing really well with his house training. And looks absolutely adorable in a raincoat. Cars will pull over to tell you how cute your dog is. His past has left him a little uncertain of his surroundings, so he would do best in a quiet home without young children. He is ok with other dogs after proper introductions and with cats, but he would do really well as an only pet. He has separation anxiety, so he would not do well if left alone for long periods of time. He is little enough to be taken almost anywhere. He’s working on crate-training and is happy to curl up in there when you’re in the house, but curled up with you is where he would rather be. He LOVES working for treats (he’s already learned “sit”, “down” and “shake”) and will happily train with you every day. Someone who is willing to continue working with him would be ideal. Posted Breed: Miniature Schnauzer / Whippet / Mixed (medium coat). Stevie here. I am a Schnauzer/ Whippet mix boy around 3 Yrs. Old and 22 pounds. I have long legs and a svelte body and that's why my foster thinks I've got whippet in me! I sure was a mess at the shelter, I was super skinny, I had demox mange (non contagious) and was losing my beautiful coat, I had an ear infection and an eye infection too. Everyone walked by my cage and didn't give me a second look. To top it off I was really scared too. I didn't stand much of chance of being adopted. Then Underdog came to save me! Now I'm in Portland in a loving foster home. I'm getting better everyday. I'm learning to trust people, and I within just a few weeks, I'm doing so great! I'm still skinny, but I've gained weight already, and my hair is starting to grow back. My ears and eyes are all better too! I'm really a funny, loving boy and I just love to play with my foster mama. I love to snuggle and I have a great appetite and I'm treat motivated for sure! I'm learning basic commands, walking on a leash and I'm potty trained as long as you keep me on a schedule. I sleep really well in my crate and I don't make a sound at night. I'd do best in a home without small kids. I'm okay with dogs as long as they aren't too high energy, and I met a cat and I sure don't know what they are but I know I'd be okay with them once I understood them. If they run - right now I want to chase them, but if they are sitting quiet I get bored and walk away. I'm working on some separation anxiety now, so if you are gone long days, right now, I wouldn't do well with that lifestyle. Everyday I get more confident and I can be left for longer periods of time, but I'm still not too sure if you will return, so I'm working on it. I do know I'm going to make someone a very loyal and loving companion. Is it you? Stevie's Adoption fee is $380 We offer a 10% discount for seniors, veterans and students. Posted Breed: Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Lennox Lex. Lex is a very handsome Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen/Shepard mix, around 3 years old and weighs approx 30 pounds. Lennox was surrendered by his owner at the shelter and he just didn't do very well there as he was stressed and frightened. Lennox needs an experienced Foster or Adopter to work with him on commands and boundaries. As he is a very loyal working dog, and he needs an active home with someone who loves to work on training. He would be a great agility dog! Lex is house trained and is a very healthy dog. He is crate, x-pen trained and house trained. He walks great on a leash. He can be good with other dogs when there isn't possession issues between the dogs. Lex needs to be in a home without young children because of the boundary/possession issues. Young kids just don't have the capacity to understand these things. Lex will be an amazing companion to the right home as he is very loyal and loving. He needs a good home where he understands his human is in charge! He will make a great hiking and running companion, and as mentioned, he will do great with any type of on going training like agility or fly ball. If you are active, this is your dog!
