Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Dear Forever Person/Persons, I know you've been looking for me, and I've been looking for you!! I've got my bag packed and I'm ready to come home! I even put on a fancy good luck tie just hoping it might help us find each other :) . I'm Jerry a healthy short-hair Chi mix! I love to sleep under the covers with you, and love taking walks! I require a special diet but goodness knows, I love to eat! I currently live with a bunny and we both like carrots! I am also good with dogs and cats. I weigh about 12 lbs, and best guess is that I'm around 10-12 years old - don't let my age make you question me though - I've got plenty of spunk and years left - you'll see! Even though I'm so excited to meet you, come home, and love you, I just ask for a little patience - moving from my foster to forever home could just take me a minute to get used to. I'm ready and excited to meet you, forever person! I love you already! See you soon! Jerry xoxo Every Underdog has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, flea/tick treated, de-wormed, and received rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo vaccines. All dogs have had a recent visit to the vet as well. Jerry's adoption fee is $200 We offer a 10% discount for seniors, veterans and students. All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have an adoption application, we check references and visit your home as part of our adoption process. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Emma Luna - the sweetest button-eyed terrier mix you’ll ever meet. 12 pounds of love with a cute speckled belly, which she would love to show you. She’s a shy girl at first, especially with men, but give her a little time and she warms right up. She’s good with other dogs, not sure about cats. She would probably do great with older children. Emma is a polite young lady. She seems to be housebroken, is good on a leash and in the car, and loves playing with toys. Her #1 favorite thing, though, is cuddling with her person. She’ll stick close to you and roll over for belly rubs any chance she gets. She would be a great work buddy, happy to chill in her bed near you and do whatever you want to do! Winston is 13 with sound eyes and hearing and really good energy. House trained ( so far no accidents), , he needs to learn leash skills and basic commands but will definitely work for food. Don't know yet about with his interactions with dogs, cats or kids, as he's a new arrival. Up to date on shots and had dental cleaning 2 years ago, his health records are available. Winston is an owner surrender and his attitude shows he's been much loved, just waiting for more of the same. Location: Portland, OR
Posted Breed: Giant Schnauzer / Mixed. Meet Barnaby! Barnaby is a gentle Giant Schnauzer who was very sick at the shelter and was on his last day. He had pneumonia, eye infections, skin lesions and was very skinny. We couldn't let him die. With the help of his caring fosters, a generous donor, and good vet care in Cali, he is here in Portland and is ready to be adopted! Barnaby is 75 pounds and approx 7 years old, he is house trained, walks great on leash, is gentle with other dogs and loves his people! Barnaby does have limited sight due to the neglect he has had in his past. He will need continued eye drops for dry eye daily. His sight hasn't slowed him down at his foster home, he is a gentle giant for sure. We think Barnaby would do best in a home with no small children due to his sight and his love of treats! As Barnaby says "doesn't every 2 legger have a treat for me? I think so!" If you are looking for a big dog, non shedding mellow fellow who is a gorgeous sweetheart, Barnaby is your man! Every Underdog has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, flea/tick treated, de-wormed, and received rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo vaccines. Posted Breed: Spaniel / Chihuahua / Mixed. Could you be my furever home? I am a 4 y/o, 14 Lbs., Spaniel/Chi mix. I get along with other dogs and love to play with toys. I can be shy at first around new people but I do warm up very quickly! I would do best in a household that is not extremely busy. I sleep well in my crate and love going on walks. I'm working on site and potty training. With regular walks and a schedule. I am doing good with no accidents for a few week now! Breed: Miniature Schnauzer-Whippet Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Portland, OR
Posted Breed: Miniature Schnauzer / Whippet / Mixed (medium coat). Stevie here. I am a Schnauzer/ Whippet mix boy around 3 Yrs. Old and 22 pounds. I have long legs and a svelte body and that's why my foster thinks I've got whippet in me! I sure was a mess at the shelter, I was super skinny, I had demox mange (non contagious) and was losing my beautiful coat, I had an ear infection and an eye infection too. Everyone walked by my cage and didn't give me a second look. To top it off I was really scared too. I didn't stand much of chance of being adopted. Then Underdog came to save me! Now I'm in Portland in a loving foster home. I'm healthy and happy now! I'm learning to trust people, and I within just a few weeks, I'm doing so great! I'm really a funny, loving boy and I just love to play with my foster mama. I love to snuggle and I have a great appetite and I'm treat motivated for sure! I've learned basic commands, and I'm a champ walking on a leash and I'm completely non reactive to other dogs or people I see, plus! I'm potty trained as long as you keep me on a good schedule. I sleep really well in my crate and I don't make a sound at night. I'd do best in a home without small kids. I'm okay with dogs as long as they aren't too high energy, and I met a cat and I sure don't know what they are but I know I'd be okay with them once I understood them. If they run - right now I want to chase them, but if they are sitting quiet I get bored and walk away. I'm working on some separation anxiety now, so if you are gone long days, right now, I wouldn't do well with that lifestyle. Everyday I get more confident and I can be left for longer periods of time, but I'm still not too sure if you will return, so I'm working on it. I do know I'm going to make someone a very loyal and loving companion. Is it you? Stevie's Adoption fee is $380 We offer a 10% discount for seniors, veterans and students.
