Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Dear Forever Person/Persons, I know you've been looking for me, and I've been looking for you!! I've got my bag packed and I'm ready to come home! I even put on a fancy good luck tie just hoping it might help us find each other :) . I'm Jerry a healthy short-hair Chi mix! I love to sleep under the covers with you, and love taking walks! I require a special diet but goodness knows, I love to eat! I currently live with a bunny and we both like carrots! I am also good with dogs and cats. I weigh about 12 lbs, and best guess is that I'm around 10-12 years old - don't let my age make you question me though - I've got plenty of spunk and years left - you'll see! Even though I'm so excited to meet you, come home, and love you, I just ask for a little patience - moving from my foster to forever home could just take me a minute to get used to. I'm ready and excited to meet you, forever person! I love you already! See you soon! Jerry xoxo Every Underdog has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, flea/tick treated, de-wormed, and received rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo vaccines. All dogs have had a recent visit to the vet as well. Jerry's adoption fee is $200 We offer a 10% discount for seniors, veterans and students. All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have an adoption application, we check references and visit your home as part of our adoption process. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Lhatese
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Portland, OR
Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso / Maltese / Mixed. Zuma is an all packaged, ready to go love bug that will capture your heart and delight you with his antics. Tentative and shy at first, once he knows you, 3 year old Zuma won't hold back his excitement. He likes to carry around a soft and plushy toy at times as much as he likes to cuddle up next to you with his head on your lap. Zuma knows his name and will come running if you call for him. He has an exuberant spirit when is comes to going for walks and gets a long well with other dogs. While on walks Zuma wants to walk beside you, he doesn't pull and has no reactions to other dogs, cats or people. He has a curious spirit and makes many trips to the Dog Toy Box searching for his next adventure. Zuma has a healthy appetite and weighing just 13 pounds, could easily add another couple of pounds. He leaves his bowl clean and only needs a little direction to leave other dog mates alone while they eat. He takes cues from other dogs and doesn't impose his spirit on others. You can see by the progression of his photos just how much he has been able to change. Heavily matted when he entered the CA shelter system, he had to be completely shaved down. Zuma's hair is growing back and when he is back to his full body of hair, Zuma's spirit will bloom. Zuma is getting settled into his Portland foster home now. So far Zuma has shown himself to be a friendly, smart, confident, and gentle boy. The Lhasa Apso/Maltese mix is a complete breed guess. Used because super special breed mix was not on option. Once Zuma's hair grows back out he will need regular brushing and grooming. Interested in meeting this little guy? The first step is to complete an Underdog Railroad adoption application. Every Underdog has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, flea/tick treated, de-wormed, and received rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo vaccines. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Dachshund / Mixed. Biscuit is a loving and curious 2-year-old, 35 LB, black female Lab/Doxi mix. She looks like a miniature lab. The shelter environment was very scary for her and her sister/mother, Dumpling. The girls don’t appear to have been socialized very much. In spite of this Biscuit is a sweet-natured dog. Shy, but curious. Alert, cuddly, attentive, and likes to be against her human. She likes other dogs, and perks up in their presence. The two dogs are bonded (they sleep together in a pile!) and need to stay together. A family willing to provide training to build their confidence would be their best match. Posted Breed: Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Lennox Lex Chewie. Chewie is a very handsome Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen/Shepard mix, around 3 years old and weighs approx 30 pounds. Chewie was surrendered by his owner at the shelter and he just didn't do very well there as he was stressed and frightened. Chewie needs an experienced Foster or Adopter to work with him on commands and boundaries. He currently responds very well to the use of a clicker as a training device to get his attention and follow directions. He is a very loyal working dog, and needs an active home with someone who will contuine to work on training. LLC (Lennox Lex Chewie) is currently working with a trainer, particularly issues around his acquired resource protection issues and learning Rally or agility skills. His new favorite task is fetch, and has learned to bring the item back to you in exchange for a yummy treat, in a short period of time! Chewie is house trained and is a very healthy dog. He is crate, x-pen trained and house trained. He walks great on a leash, has a little pull, but an "easy leader" is great for Chewie. He is well-mannered with other dogs when there isn't possession issues between the dogs. Chewie would do best in a household with older children because of the boundary/possession issues and an environment without quick movements. Chewie will be an amazing companion in the right home as he is very loyal and loving. He needs a good home where he understands his human is in charge! He will make a great hiking and running companion, and as mentioned, a commitment to continued training opportunities will be important to his success. Every Underdog has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, flea/tick treated, and received rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo vaccines. We offer a 10% discount for seniors, veterans and students. Currently Chewie is in a Boarding Situation, and is receiving three days a week of training outside of the Boarding setting. The current trainer is willing to make arrangements with a potential adopter to continue training opportunities in a transition. We have an adoption application, we check references and visit your home as part of our adoption process. Posted Breed: Terrier / Affenpinscher / Mixed. Meet Monkey. This little girl is 5 yrs. old and about 9 lbs. What all breeds she has in her is a mystery, but whatever they are one super cute soft munchkin was the result. Small in size, but big in personality. Monkey is a little doll who loves everyone and loves to play. Great leash skills. Enjoys her walks, especially if it means she gets to roll around in the grass. Rides really well in the car. And, house trained. Monkey is looking for human companion who has lap space available and doesn’t mind kisses. Ideally someone who will not leave her home alone for extended periods of time and who is good at giving belly rubs. Because of her petite size, Monkey needs a home with children over 8. Monkey did have some teeth removed during a recent dental. Luckily it didn’t include her cute little tusks that make her so uniquely her. She will require some grooming to keep her hair in good shape. If you think you might be the right furever home for this sweetie and would like to see about meeting her, the 1st step is to complete an Underdog Railroad Rescue adoption application. Posted Breed: Miniature Schnauzer / Whippet / Mixed (medium coat). Stevie here. I am a Schnauzer/ Whippet mix boy around 3 Yrs. Old and 22 pounds. I have long legs and a svelte body and that's why my foster thinks I've got whippet in me! I sure was a mess at the shelter, I was super skinny, I had demox mange (non contagious) and was losing my beautiful coat, I had an ear infection and an eye infection too. Everyone walked by my cage and didn't give me a second look. To top it off I was really scared too. I didn't stand much of chance of being adopted. Then Underdog came to save me! Now I'm in Portland in a loving foster home. I'm getting better everyday. I'm learning to trust people, and I within just a few weeks, I'm doing so great! I'm still skinny, but I've gained weight already, and my hair is starting to grow back. My ears and eyes are all better too! I'm really a funny, loving boy and I just love to play with my foster mama. I love to snuggle and I have a great appetite and I'm treat motivated for sure! I'm learning basic commands, walking on a leash and I'm potty trained as long as you keep me on a schedule. I sleep really well in my crate and I don't make a sound at night. I'd do best in a home without small kids. I'm okay with dogs as long as they aren't too high energy, and I met a cat and I sure don't know what they are but I know I'd be okay with them once I understood them. If they run - right now I want to chase them, but if they are sitting quiet I get bored and walk away. I'm working on some separation anxiety now, so if you are gone long days, right now, I wouldn't do well with that lifestyle. Everyday I get more confident and I can be left for longer periods of time, but I'm still not too sure if you will return, so I'm working on it. I do know I'm going to make someone a very loyal and loving companion. Is it you? Stevie's Adoption fee is $380 We offer a 10% discount for seniors, veterans and students. All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have an adoption application, we check references and visit your home as part of our adoption process.
