Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). In search of forever home since: 5/4/2015 Meet a few of the faces of Peanut. Whether it’s a smile, a yawn or the tip of his tongue, quirky is the hallmark of this pint-sized cutie. A true rags-to-riches doggy tail, the little chi has gone from fearful to friendly, guarded to giving, anxious to affectionate in the loving safety of his foster home. Although Peanut gets along very well with other dogs, he seldom engages them in play and is seldom seen playing with toys. Instead he seems to prefer spending most of his time with his people, either being held in their arms or simply sitting on their laps. More than eager now to find his forever home, pert and petite Peanut will thrive in an adult-only one, perhaps with older, respectful and responsible children, to give him the storybook ending he so deserves.. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Location: Spanish Fork, UT
Posted Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). Everything’s coming up roses for pretty and peppy Penny! Happily in love with love, the eager 8-year-old LOVED her foster mom’s three children from the moment she met them, greeting them then as she does now with joyful licks and jumps. Excellent on leash, she enjoys going for walks, playing fetch (without returning the ball) and toying with her many stuffed animals. Friendly Penny likes snuggling on her foster mom’s lap for naps, while frisky Penny is good with other dogs and ignores the outside cats. Now this happy honey is more than eager to bring her Penny love to a loving fur-ever home. Interested in adopting? Please visit www.uvar.us/forms to submit an adoption application. Location: Spanish Fork, UT
Posted Breed: Border Collie / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). As large in heart as he is in size, affable and affectionate Arlo laps up love as eagerly as he runs laps around his foster home’s yard. Happily high energy with long, shapely legs that spell speed, this majestic mixed breed beauty will play until he has no play left! Having been carefully trained, he now walks wonderfully on a leash, and although he gets along with other dogs, he prefer puppies to dogs his own size, and truly dislikes cats. Particular about his people, Arlo is an ardent fan of all women, while merely tolerating most men, and could thrive on a steady diet of attention and praise. Both crate and housetrained, his ideal fur-ever home is one without children or cats, with a securely fenced yard, and an experienced, patient and loving adopter. Interested in adopting? She makes every person she meets her new best friend, but is slightly more selective when socializing with other dogs. And cats, for this marvelous miss, are a definite no-no. Eager and energetic with excellent recall, she thrives on activity, and gives the word "play" an entirely new meaning. She may still gently "mouth" on occasion, but her fosters have nearly weaned her of the habit as she sets out to add her sweetness and energy to an active and loving forever home. Breed: Lab-Pointer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Spanish Fork, UT
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pointer / Mixed (medium coat). Check out this lovely video put together by his loving foster mom!! My name is Dax, and I am nearly three years old. My start in life wasn't pawsom but now I get to go run and play chase with my six foster siblings on my foster moms ten acre ranch, and I love to see how fast I can run. I have very long strides! I love the water in the summer, and play for hours in the sprinkler. My foster mom says I would love the sport of dock jumping. I have been attending a beginning agility class, and I absolutely love it! My favorites are the jumps, tunnel, and table. I will even hop up on a chair if you ask me to. As for commands, I know “place”, “sit”, “shake”, “down”, “off”, and I am getting really great at “roll over”. I can even stand on my two back legs for many seconds. I love toys, especially squeaky ones! I also wait for a command before I eat my meals. I am very mellow and calm in the house, and do love to lounge on the couch to relax. My foster mom says I am so adorable, especially when I curl up each night to sleep in a dog bed that is much too small for me (I am a big boy). I am very grateful to sleep in a warm house on a soft bed each night. From Dax’s foster mom: Dax is a special and amazing boy. He has overcome so many obstacles. He does have anxiety in meeting new dogs, so his owner will have to do their job to make him feel safe, and let him meet new dogs off leash when he is ready and comfortable. In his first few years of life, Dax was chained and was extremely neglected, and he did not have the opportunity to have proper and positive interactions with people or other animals. He has been extremely resilient since coming into a stable and structured foster home, and now knows that people are kind, and he will seek treats from people that he does not know. He loves going to agility class, and has done amazingly week after week with the chaos of class, and he’s wonderful to sit quietly next to dogs (even naughty ones) waiting for his turn. He does his agility runs off leash, and is very attentive and obedient. I have also been taking Dax to a wonderful dog trainer to help me expose him to new situations and new dogs. Being insecure, Dax needs his handler to make good choices. His handler needs protect him and help him gain confidence. The behaviors that he exhibits when he is scared or insecure are body stiffness, avoidance, and anxious whining. After only about ten minutes of a new situation, he calms down, and can enjoy himself. Dax loves car rides, and going to public places. He loves going to Tractor Supply, PetSmart, and Home Depot, and is very well behaved in the stores. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dax. He needs a forever home that is structured and stable. He needs to continue being exposed to social situations such as obedience classes or agility classes (or both), and he also needs to continue experiencing the outside world beyond home so that he does not regress. Though Dax loves playing with his foster siblings, he would not be a dog park kind of guy. He also needs a tall fully fenced yard. He is learning to be gentle with kitties, however he may be best in a cat free home. Dax deserves to be adored and spoiled for the rest of his life. He will pay you back tenfold with his huge heart, soft kisses, and lifelong loyalty. When the right adopter/home finds Dax, I will give lessons on how to work with him to make the transition successful. ~Foster Mom, Tori Interested in adopting? Posted Breed: Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Chester is a tender, 11-month-old boy who tumbled out of the unsecured bed of a moving truck. After discovering how high his medical bills were, he was set to be euthanized. Luckily, Utah Valley Animal Rescue stepped in to help set his bones and make sure he had the best chance at a new life. His femur surgery went well and he now has a pin in place to immobilize his limb for 6 weeks. In this time, bone growth should allow the pin to be removed and Chester will be able to start being a carefree puppy again. Chester is currently on the mend with a loving foster family who is anxiously waiting for his enthusiasm and energy to return. Won’t you please help us by donating towards Chester's surgery? Won’t you please help us set him on the road to recovery and to his ultimate destination: a loving fur-ever home? Tax-deductible donations like yours enable us to save Chester and other animals in need. Please visit https://poundwishes.com/donate/1546785/Chester Together we can make a difference.
