Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). In search of forever home since: 5/4/2015 Meet a few of the faces of Peanut. Whether it’s a smile, a yawn or the tip of his tongue, quirky is the hallmark of this pint-sized cutie. A true rags-to-riches doggy tail, the little chi has gone from fearful to friendly, guarded to giving, anxious to affectionate in the loving safety of his foster home. Although Peanut gets along very well with other dogs, he seldom engages them in play and is seldom seen playing with toys. Instead he seems to prefer spending most of his time with his people, either being held in their arms or simply sitting on their laps. More than eager now to find his forever home, pert and petite Peanut will thrive in an adult-only one, perhaps with older, respectful and responsible children, to give him the storybook ending he so deserves.. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: Border Collie-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Collie / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 150. As large in heart as he is in size, affable and affectionate Arlo laps up love as eagerly as he runs laps around his foster home’s yard. Happily high energy with long, shapely legs that spell speed, this majestic mixed breed beauty will play until he has no play left! Having been carefully trained, he now walks wonderfully on a leash, and although he gets along with other dogs, he prefer puppies to dogs his own size, and truly dislikes cats. Particular about his people, Arlo is an ardent fan of all women, while merely tolerating most men, and could thrive on a steady diet of attention and praise. Both crate and housetrained, his ideal fur-ever home is one without children or cats, with a securely fenced yard, and an experienced, patient and loving adopter. Interested in adopting? Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 150. I enjoy puppuccinos from Starbucks, playing at the dog park, and car rides. I am an absolute people-dog and love to be by your side at all times, preferably with one of yours hands always on me. I LOVE playing with other dogs, I have so much energy that I usually overwhelm others with how much I want to play. I need a home with other dog(s) who can match my energy, wear me out, and won't get mad when I want to play every second of the day. I also prefer to always have something in my mouth. Whether that be my leash, a stick, or your hand. I am a heeler, I have been bred for generations to use my mouth to herd livestock. I need someone who understands my breed and will give me a job to direct my drive. I would be better in a home with kids who are older and dog savvy, I like to rough house with anybody and everybody. I'm looking for a home with lots of love. Before I came to the rescue I was at the shelter and I was so scared I couldn't walk on a leash and had to be carried out. Now I have done a complete 180, I am not afraid to be myself and love everyone. Please come down and visit me today, I can't wait to find my fur-ever home! Interested in adopting?
