Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). In search of forever home since: 5/4/2015 Meet a few of the faces of Peanut. Whether it’s a smile, a yawn or the tip of his tongue, quirky is the hallmark of this pint-sized cutie. A true rags-to-riches doggy tail, the little chi has gone from fearful to friendly, guarded to giving, anxious to affectionate in the loving safety of his foster home. Although Peanut gets along very well with other dogs, he seldom engages them in play and is seldom seen playing with toys. Instead he seems to prefer spending most of his time with his people, either being held in their arms or simply sitting on their laps. More than eager now to find his forever home, pert and petite Peanut will thrive in an adult-only one, perhaps with older, respectful and responsible children, to give him the storybook ending he so deserves.. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Found in a box with her litter-mates, Maya and her siblings are now looking for their perfect forever homes! Before Maya embarks on the next steps in life she will need a small surgery to correct her 'cherry' eyes. This is typically an easy fix, for Maya however we will be taking a few extra precautions during her procedure, as life would have it for this little girl she also has a small heart murmur that our veterinarian wants to be considerate with when putting her under anesthesia. He will also take care of her spay surgery while under so that she doesn't have to go through any additional procedures! Donations will help off-set the cost of her care! Breed: Lab-Pointer

      Age: Young
      Location: Spanish Fork, UT
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pointer / Mixed (medium coat). Check out this lovely video put together by his loving foster mom!! Dax has not always been cared for. He lived on a chain for his first two years, no dog house, no affection, no attention, and no stimulation except for watching others' live their lives of freedom, while he was restrained day after day. He was rescued, and now he knows how wonderful life can be. Dax is looking for his forever home, one that will give him a comfy bed inside the house, one that will give him daily exercise, stimulation, and love; a home where he is a full member of a family. He came to his foster home with some behavioral problems caused from his previous life, but is now thriving and loving life and has left his past chained life in the dust. This boy has a heart of gold, and is as loyal as can be. He does have anxiety in new situations and meeting new dogs, but a caring family can help him feel at ease, and calm his fears by exposing him to the situations that he thinks are scary. He would benefit greatly from obedience classes to keep him social. Dax adores toys (squeaky toys, balls, stuffed animals, and etc.), and would be in heaven if he had a room full! He adores his 6 canine siblings, and loves playing tag with them on a daily basis. He would do well with respectful children, and currently lives with an active 4 year old boy. Dax would be an excellent jogging partner, and loves to be active. Dax does chase cats, so a home without is needed. Dax he knows sit, shake, down, and stay. This amazing and loving boy is ready for a permanent place to call home. Interested in adopting? Please click the Adoption Application/Contract button at the top of the screen. Fill out the form. Breed: Border Collie-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Location: Spanish Fork, UT
Posted Breed: Border Collie / Mixed. My name is Jake. I am about 5 years old. I had a loving home once, and was cared for. My dad, who is in his 70's, fell on hard times after his wife of 25 years passed away. He got me to keep him company and be his companion. Recently over Thanksgiving, my dad got confused, made a wrong turn, and got his truck stuck in the snow during a snow storm. Dad told me to stay at the truck while he walked to the highway. The Highway Patrol found my dad at the highway, barely alive (92 degree core temperature and pneumonia), and took him to the hospital. Someone found me two days later at the truck, still waiting for my dad. The trauma of that night made my dads' dementia hit very hard. He is now in assisted living, and not able to care for me. My foster parents took me up three weeks later to say good-bye to him. While at the assisted living home, I had the best time visiting my dad and other patients, and was so happy to say hello to the people in the facility. My foster mom and dad are giving me good loves until I can find my final, forever home. I am neutered, and a good boy. I am startled by loud gun shot noises. I am very mellow in the house, love to lounge on the couch in front of the fire, and do like to run around smelling the yard, as well as go on walks. I get along well with other dogs, though sometimes I need to correct the young rambunctious ones. I am true to my Border Collie instinct, and do want to chase livestock, as well as cats (so a home without would be best). I would do well with respectful and kind older children. I don't do well outside in the cold; my feet start to hurt from the cold temperature. I am nearly house trained, and am a bit chubby for a Border Collie. I have a huge heart, and promise to love my human endlessly. Interested in adopting? Please click the Adoption Application/Contract button at the top of the screen. Fill out the form. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Featured on Good 4 Utah-Midday! In search of forever home since: 10/9/2015 Tina, the striking 7-year-old stray is known round her foster home as sweeter than sweet and wonderfully wiggly. Although more docile than daring, she gets along well with the other dogs, and relishes her role as "teacher’s pet" to her foster mom. With her true past unclear, what IS clear is that Tina had little to no socialization. What this cautious cutie needs, then, is TIME to grow into the confident cutie she should be. Trust, slowly and patiently built, is the key to winning Tina’s heart, and once achieved, will be repaid in full with a love that lasts fur-ever. Interested in adopting?
