Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Ami is an adorable Chihuahua/Min Pin mix that weighs thirteen pounds and only 3-4 years old! She is full of puppy love and energy. Sadly, Ami has been with LuvFurMutts since September of 2015! You read that right, 2015. We would love for her to get her chance at a forever family! Ami is such a love bug. She loves to cuddle and be held! She would make a wonderful lap dog! She gets along with the other dogs-- but loves her "human time". Ami has a little limp, however, nothing to be alarmed of! She has had her leg x-rayed and we were told it is either from a previous injury or is a little arthritis in her front paw. We feel like it is more likely to be arthritis as it seems to "act up" more when it is chilly or after exercise, like human arthritis; but that never keeps her from prancing around. She is healthy, sweet, courageous, spunky, and overall just a fun girl! Ami moves with a comical prance and has beautiful brindling on her legs. She can be anxious and a little shy, but once she gets to know you, she is eager to please and will pounce on any opportunity to cuddle. Ami is crate trained, and will hang out in her crate during the day when the door is open. She is doing great on potty training. She seems to be very smart and picks up on the house routine fast. She gets along fine with cats, kids and other dogs, though she is not a playmate for them – she would much rather play with people. Ami is learning not to bark and is responsive to corrections ... and when happy, she has her own growly purr. Ami would love to be part of your family. Can you open your heart to her? More About Chipin Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

He would not do well in an apartment due to howling and barking when left alone. Progress is being made on potty habits. Victor is crate trained. He needs a home with no young kids and no big dogs. Victor has not been around cats but we think he would do fine with them. Breed: Dachshund-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Cincinnati, OH
Posted Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Dachshund / Mixed (medium coat). Donnie is a male Dachshund mix who is about five years old and weighs fifteen pounds. He’s had a rough start in life, but you’d never know it – he is full of love and does everything with great enthusiasm. His tail wags constantly! He reminds his foster mom of the dog in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. J Even at age 5, he acts very much like a puppy. We like to think he’s just making up for lost time. Donnie was rescued by chance. A rescuer was sent to a home to get a dog with a tumor half her size on her belly. When the rescuer showed up to get the little girl he noticed another sweet little dog being kept in the same backyard chicken coop. The rescuer asked if they wanted to get rid of that one too, and the owner said yes. That little boy in the chicken coop was Donnie. Sadly, his sister did not make it through surgery, but we are happy Donnie made it out. Donnie is hypoallergenic and does not shed. He is also doing great with potty training. He is still working on learning basic manners (you wouldn’t have any manners either, if you’d been raised in a chicken coop). He wants nothing more than to be close to his person, and thinks pets and belly rubs are his constitutional rights at all times! He can be a bit persistent if you’re not petting him the way he thinks you should. But he’s very smart and is quickly learning what “no” means, and that it’s not polite to be in his person’s face all the time. Donnie is very patient and laid-back, and would probably do well with kids, although he’s never encountered any children younger than 9. He loves his foster fur brother – they play all the time. But he’s also jealous of his foster mom’s attention, so if you have a dog for whom that would pose a problem, Donnie is not the dog for you. He also pesters his brother to play – his brother is always up for a good romp in the floor, but if your dog isn’t interested in being a playmate to an energetic dog, Donnie wouldn’t be a good fit. He’s never been around cats, but he might drive them crazy with his constant desire to play. Donnie doesn’t mind being crated – he whines at first, but quickly calms down. But there’s really no need to crate him – he’s not destructive, he doesn’t chew on anything but toys (he can be brutal on them!), and he doesn’t potty in the house as long as you take him out regularly. He would prefer a home where he doesn’t have to be left alone for more than 4-5 hours at a time – longer than that, it gets hard for him to avoid potty accidents in the house. A fenced back yard where he could run and play would suit Donnie well, but he’s fine to go out on a leash or a tether as well – he’s not picky. He’s not much of a barker, unless his person goes outside without him – then he stands at the door and howls because he thinks you’re having fun without him! Donnie’s foster mom offered to let him sleep in her bed, but he isn’t too interested in that – he prefers to hang out in the living room and snuggle up on the couch. He had some separation anxiety when he first arrived, and whined if his mom left the room. He’s quickly figured out, though, that mom always comes back, so being alone is okay. Because Donnie is heart worm positive, his adoption will be slightly different than others. ***Due to this, his forever home must be within an hour of 45231. Thank you! Can you open your heart to this sweet boy who has so much love to give? *Please note, LuvFurMutts Rescue cannot guarantee age, breed(s) or adult size of the dog. Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Hello, my name is Sugar! I am a 7 year old female Chihuahua weighing in at 6 pounds. I am a sensitive girl so I do scare and become excited very easily. Due to this, I have a tendency to urinate a small amount where I stand. It doesn't happen all the time, but without even realizing what I've done, I may have an accident. Other than this, I am doing great with potty habits and will even bark when it is time to go outside! I am crate trained, do fine with other dogs and cats but I am not interested in playing. I simply love my human and will take advantage of any opportunity to be next to you. Car rides, leash walking, watching our favorites TV shows and even snuggle time under the covers. Although I love and adore kids, I would do best in a home with older children. Since I do enjoy barking here and there, an apartment may not be an ideal fit for me. I am a sweet gal with so much love to give, are you my forever home? *We must ask that Sugar's home be within a 1 hour radius of 45213. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Braxton is a male Lab mix who is about 9 months old and weighs forty nine pounds. He had a rough start in life! His previous owners thought he was too big for their family and left him chained up outside in 12 degree winter weather with no shelter. Despite this, Braxton is a very lovable and excited puppy. Since he was left outside most of his life he is still learning his manners and how to play nicely without being too mouthy. He still acts like a puppy and needs a family that has experience with larger breed puppies. He is potty trained and his foster parents are teaching him basic commands. He already knows sit and down, and he is working on stay. He is very intuitive and a quick learner. Braxton came from a family with children 10 years old and up and would do well with kids that are comfortable with large dogs. Braxton loves to play and needs a fenced in backyard to run off his energy. He would love other dogs to play with and a high energy family that can put the time to train him and give him the love he has missed out on. Braxton has never met any cats, so we are not sure how he would react, although he would probably just want to play. Braxton is not crate trained, so we do not know how he would do in one. Braxton is ready for his forever family and is ready to start loving his forever family. Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Monkey! Monkey’s a male Jack Russell Terrier/Rat Terrier mix and weighs 11 pounds. He is about 3 and half years old. Monkey was adopted a little over a year ago. Near the end of 2016, his former adopter asked if Monkey could come back to Luvfurmutts for a bit. Later, his adopter informed Luvfurmutts that she would not be able to retrieve him and that he would have to be surrendered back to Luvfurmutts. It was just an unfortunate situation and nobody’s fault. Monkey had been much loved at his adopter’s home. He shared the home with his mom and her roommate and a large gentle dog. Monkey is a very playful boy. He loves toys! He has shown that he can be toy possessive. His foster mom is working on him knowing he has to share. He will growl at the dogs when they approach him, but if they steal the toy, he won’t try to bite them. He is housebroken and will use a pee pad or a doggie door. Monkey LOVES to play with other dogs! He rarely barks. He is GREAT with kids. I am not sure how he is with cats since he isn’t around them. If you have a fenced yard, it will need to be a 6 foot fence as he can scale a 4 foot fence. He is a door darter, so you will have to be prepared to make doors inaccessible to him when people are going in and out. He isn’t destructive when left in a bedroom during the work day as long as he has his toys and bones to occupy him. I wouldn’t give him complete run of the house, but since he doesn’t like to be caged, I would suggest having a space for him when you are gone. He is so super soft. He is incredibly affectionate and will sleep right up next to you. He wants to be near his human all the time and even LOVES to be carried around in a pouch. He loves car rides, too! You must know, when Monkey first came to LFM, he was given the Bordetella vaccination and had a very bad reaction to it. He can never have this vaccination again which means he can’t be boarded. He would need to stay with family or you could call LFM to see if someone could board him while you are gone. Monkey is honestly one of the sweetest and most loving dogs I have ever worked with. Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher (short coat). Sasha is a 3-year-old female Min-Pin. She is all legs and only weighs 13 pounds! Her owner died and the rest of the family surrendered her to a shelter. She is the sweetest little girl and is completely potty trained. She will use a potty pad if you are not home, or she will bark at the door to be let out when you are home. She is a bit skittish at first and has super skinny legs, so she would be best in a home with children over the age of 10, unless the child is experienced with little dogs and how to handle them. Ideally, she would like someone home a lot because she absolutely loves to be near her human. She is very affectionate, gets along with dogs and kids. We suggest that she be in a cat free home though. She will walk with a harness/leash. She doesn’t really like to be crated, but if you gate her off in an area when you are gone, she isn’t destructive. Can you open your heart/home to Sasha? *Please note, LuvFurMutts Rescue cannot guarantee age, breed(s) or adult size of the dog. We do our best on their bio based on our veterinarian's assessment. Posted Breed: Feist / Whippet / Mixed (short coat). Hi there! My name is Sweetie! I am an 8 year old, 20 pound, female Mountain Feist/Whippet. I have been with LFM since March 2015... yes, you read that right, 2015. I would love to find a home of my own! Get this...I prance when I walk and I'm house broken. Score! Like most girls, I don't like competition...so I need only boy dogs in my forever home. I get along with other dogs WITH TIME and patience, but they must not be smaller than me. I also need a forever home with no cats and kids mus be 8 and up. I am a tricky little girl and like adventure. Also meaning, I can dig out a fence in 1 minute flat. Okay, get ready for the water works! Before the nice people at LFM rescued me, I was kept in a outside in a kennel, and fed every once and a while. That is why I try to escape fences. They scare me because I am afraid I will be left in there alone. I mean, can you blame me? I go in a crate when my foster family leaves, but prefer not to be crated. All I want is to curl up on a bed or blanket and just sleep. I an not high-maintenance and am very quiet. All I want is a dedicated person to love me and not leave me outside in a cage. Can you open your heart up to me? Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Howie is a ten year old male Chihuahua that weighs ten pounds. He has been with LuvFurMutts since April 2016. Poor guy came to us when his daddy died in hospice care. He is a perfect example of why LuvFurMutts was started. Howie is very sweet, would be best as an only dog, and is still working on potty training. He does fine with other dogs, but he is alpha and wants to bark at them. Howie has cataracts but seems to get around just fine, so we feel he can still see well enough. He wants to be near her at all times and cries until she picks him up and puts him next to her on the couch. He is good with cats, and small children. Although Howie is older, he is in very good shape and loves to go on walks or rides in the car. Howie's ideal family would be a companion he could be best buds with and be a furriend to. We are glad Howie did not have to go to the shelter and we were able to step in to help him. *Please note, LuvFurMutts Rescue cannot guarantee age, breed(s) or adult size of the dog. Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Meet Javier aka Javi! Javier is a COURTESY LISTING with LFM. LuvFurMutts will be processing the adoption application, but the rest will be handled through Javier's current owner. Javi is an 8-10 year old Male Chihuahua. He weighs 9 pounds. He loves everyone he meets, including kids dogs of all sizes and cats. His favorite toys are stuffed animals. He carries one around all the time. He has some permanent hair loss on his neck and tail from what the drs assume is from a flea infestation prior to us taking him in. He has a decent amount of energy. But will also be lazy all day if that's what the humans want. He is housebroken. He is the most laid back and friendly Chihuahua you will ever meet! He would love to just sit with his person all day. He will require insulin shots twice a day and a low fat high fiber diet. Although Javier is a "special needs" dog, we know his forever family is out there! Will you open your heart up to Javier? *Please note, LuvFurMutts Rescue cannot guarantee age, breed(s) or adult size of the dog. We do our best on their bio based on our veterinarian's assessment.
