Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). My name is Cleo, and I was rescued from Devore Animal Shelter in February of 2013 so pregnant I was ready to pop! I had 5 beautiful babies a few days later in the peace of a loving foster home. I was such a loving, doting mommy. Here I am, three years later still in rescue, no home to call my own. I am a loving, loyal little girl who loves to tell you like it is. I am a strong-willed, outspoken little lady - a true chihuahua with a little bit of Minpin mixed in. I love to play with my foster brothers & sisters, I love my 13 yr-old human kiddo who was 10 when I met her. I have the best bat radar ears you've ever seen. I will tilt my head at you lovingly when you talk to me, and curl up on your neck. I take a little while to trust & warm up to people, but once you're mine, I love you unconditionally. Visit me and my other rescued buddies at our Petsmart adoption events on Saturdays from 11-4. Email CAUSE4SBPAWS@GMAIL.COM or text (no calls please) 909-838-2243 for more information.

More About Chipin Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Bruce

      rescue
      Breed: Bullypit
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Mission viejo, CA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Bruce was found weak and deydrated on a pile of trash along the side of the road in Rialto. A good Samaritan nursed him back to health and kept him safe as long as possible, but he wound up at high-kill Devore shelter. In a panic he would be euthanized for space, she went and adopted Bruce to get him out. She said he was just too sweet and deserving of a good life to die there. The only problem is, she cannot have Bruce where she lives, so she has him in boarding until she can find Bruce a home. Please consider sweet Bruce! He's very gentle, loves people including kids, and is great with other dogs. Neutered, chipped & fully vaccinated. Email cause4sbpaws@gmail.com!

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Mission viejo, CA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Beautiful Queenie (Rosie) was rescued from Downey Animal Shelter after giving birth to 12 puppies! Queenie was emaciated and very ill with pneumonia upon rescue, and trying to feed so many pups really took a toll on her. We almost lost her. With the help of her devoted foster mom, Queenie recovered. She then survived Pyometra once pups were fully weaned and had to recover all over again. Once she recovered from Pyometra (her spay surgery took care of it), Queenie underwent 9 weeks of intensive behavior modification training with Yasin Ali of Empire K9 Training. She excels at basic commands, and eventually did well with pack training. Please see her video with her trainer. She is wonderful with humans and children, but she cannot go to a home with children under 12 for precautionary reasons. She was unsure about other dogs because no one ever socialized her. She was most likely bred several times and maybe dumped pregnant because she was so sick. We'll never know, but her future looks bright thanks to her foster and her trainer. Her trainer says she is an excellent, excellent dog who now shows confidence around other dogs but like any large dog, she will always have to be introduced properly. She will never be a dog park dog, and we do not recommend a home with cats. Queenie needs an experienced Pitbull/Bully lover who understands the breed and will commit to working with her so she can fully blossom into the wonderful dog she is and live the life she deserves to live. Our dream is to find someone who connects to Queenie's story and sees the win-win in owning a rescued dog that has overcome huge obstacles. Dogs who have survived trauma and neglect are often wonderful therapy for people who have survived health, emotional, and other trauma and obstacles themselves. We often say rescued dogs help us much more than we help them. Please email CAUSE4SBPAWS@GMAIL.COM or text (no calls please) 909-838-2243 for more information on our special survivor, Queenie.

My mommy wanted to put new carpet in and because I had an accident on the old carpet, she decided she didn't want me anymore. Once Cause for SB Paws got me, they found out I have a bladder infection, which probably led to my accidents. I am very small and very sweet. I love other dogs and am not a yappy dog. I really want a forever home and hope you might consider me to love you. Email CAUSE4SBPAWS@GMAIL.COM for more information.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shepherd / Mixed. WHAT A STORY GRACIE HAS (AKA Jazzy from SBC #A497555)! She waited for an adopter at SBC for over a month. During that time, she was doing well, kenneled with other dogs who were adopted, but she was overlooked. One day a kennel worker went into her kennel, and she growled and backed away, which earned her an "Aggressive" label. Fearful would have been an accurate label; she is not at all aggressive and has never, ever bit or even fear-nipped. She is just very unsure of whether to trust you, but she has warmed up at her foster home remarkably! The video below is at Jordan's house, the VERY NEXT DAY she was moved there. The first tail wag we've seen. We are beyond happy to see her so happy. She adores big dogs and we are not sure how she is with littles yet. She is very frightened of kids - she has never nipped at a child, but she hides when a little human is around. So she would do best in a home with kids over 16 years who are "dog trained." :) One day soon Gracie will make someone a very loving and grateful life partner. Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Whippet Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Mission viejo, CA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Whippet / Mixed. With Pearl's small stature, sleek frame, long legs and tail, and perky ears, people often ask if she's mixed with Whippet or Greyhound. We're not sure, but we do know she is striking, unique looking, and so very sweet. Pearl was rescued anemic and so malnourished from Downey Shelter in June 2014, our vets could not agree on her age. One vet said 4-6 months old. Another said at least a year to two years, but growth stunted from being so neglected. Over two years later she is a sleek, healthy, happy girl. She was saved due to someone who offered to foster her. They fell in love and adopted her. Now, two years later, the family's life has changed. Pearl was feeling the strain so they reached out to us for help. So Baby Pearl is now a Cause Kid. She is sweet, quiet, very affectionate and loves kids. She will do best with a large male fur companion but large females would work with proper intros. Smalls are not a good fit; although she did live for two years in peace with a small female. Email cause4sbpaws@gmail.com for more info on sweet Pearl, or fill out an adoption app now.

      rescue
      Breed: Bullypit
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Mission viejo, CA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Sweet Jester is a survivor in so many ways. First, he survived high-kill Devore Animal Shelter, where he was euth listed due to several large tumors on his chest. Royce of Angels n Paws Rescue saved him and had his tumors removed, but they grew back. Using alternative treatments, he was eventually declared cancer free. Then the Blue Cut Fire nearly devastated the Angels n Paws Rescue Ranch in Devore, and Jester and all other animals had to be evacuated. We asked Royce if we could help this hand-shaking charmer while she got the ranch up and running again, and while with us, he was just diagnosed with skin cancer on his lower belly. The good news - it was an early diagnosis and five lesions were already removed. But odds are they will return. Our big boy also has arthritis in both knees, so he's on anti-inflammatories & pain relief. Jester just asks for a warm couch, cuddles and belly rubs. He wants nothing more than to please you and shake your hand. He is a big lovebug of a lug. Email cause4sbpaws@gmail.com to learn more about this Angels n Paws and Cause for SB Paws cutie.
