Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Pomeranian / Mixed (medium coat). **Phillip is in need of a foster home (or adopter!)** Phillip is an extra handsome little 6 pound longhaired chi mix, about 1 year old. He has the sweetest personality and LOVES everyone he meets! Phillip is a very playful little guy, and enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home. He's also quite content playing by himself with his favorite plush toys and chew bones. But most of all, he loves to cuddle with his person. Phillip needs to go to a home with a yard (even if it's small) and where someone is home most of the day. Philip was born with a slight rear-end deformity, so he runs a little sideways and has to wear a diaper indoors. Phillip is looking for an extra loving, understanding, and patient person/family who will love and accept him as he is. He needs someone willing to make a commitment to him and his special needs. In return he will love you forever! Phillip has been in rescue since 8/2015. Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application: http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc

More About Chiranian Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Roger

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier (Parson Russell Terrier) / Mixed. ** PLEASE READ HIS DESCRIPTION BEFORE CALLING/APPLYING! ** His super cute looks are deceiving! Roger is a "project dog"! Which means he will need on-going training and is ONLY available to an SF Bay Area experienced, sport dog home. Roger is a 6 year old, 10lb Australian Terrier/Jack Russell mix, and this guy is ALL terrier!! (His personality is probably closest to that of a Jack Russell) He loves to play with other small dogs, is good with cats (although sometimes he wants to play with them if they run). He LOVES to play (can’t say this enough), and he is very high energy. He has learned a handful of tricks (is a titled Advanced Trick Dog), and he competes in USDAA Agility (with two titles already- SPS and PD)!, so he must go to a home that can continue dog sports with him, and keep him very active, both mentally and physically. He’s like the energizer bunny, and he is one of the smartest dogs we have ever met, scary smart! He does also love to snuggle with his person and give kisses. He’s crate-trained and housebroken. His only issue (besides his energy and intelligence level) is *fear aggression toward strangers* (will bite if a stranger approaches, reaches their hand for/toward him, or spooks him), but with lots of patience, management, training (counter conditioning), and carefully monitored socialization, his fear has decreased, but it may never go completely away, so you can never let your guard down with him. He has gotten a LOT better in his foster home over the last several years, but will need someone to continue the right kind of training with him. He does seem to warm up much faster to young women than to older people or men. This is why he’d do best in a home with NO children and with someone experienced with terrier or high energy breeds (like herding dogs) and near-professional dog behavior experience. Once you give this dog a chance, you will fall in love! He’s really such an absolutely brilliant dog, the life of the party! Roger has been in rescue since 3/2011. Roger is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, and will come with a collar, harness, leash, and bag of food! rescue
      Breed: Beagle-German Shepherd Dog Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Beagle / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat). Rocky is a 3yo old beagle/shepherd/cattledog mix (our best guess!) who weighs 40lbs, which is a GREAT size- not too big, not too small! Rocky is squishy, wiggly, lovable, gives kisses, and totally thinks he's a lapdog! He bonds very strongly to his person and prefers women over men. He's more fearful/unsure of men, so needs someone that will take their time to earn his trust because of his abusive past, so would ideally just do best with a woman. He needs to be in a dog experienced, quiet, adult only home (not apartment!) and with no kids. He is great with other dogs of all sizes, and would do well with a confident companion dog! He is also fully crate-trained, walks well on leash, and knows sit and down. He is so willing to please and such a great companion dog with a moderate energy level. If you're looking for your best friend and a chill dog to have around the house, Rocky's your man! Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). *courtesy listing* Pepito's age is unknown but I'm guessing about five years old, neuter chihuahua male, about 5 pounds. He is very skittish of people but does very well with other friendly dogs. He is looking for a home with someone with a lot of patience as he has to learn to trust his human. He lived in abandon lot for and unknown time which might have help become feral. He likes to bolt out the door if he has the opportunity. At my home with my dogs, he has made a lot progress, he follows their lead and it's begin to play with my female Yorkie, I think he might be in love with her :) which is actually very cute to watch...He loves meal time and waits patently while bowls are being prepared. He now wags with his tail when good things happen. He is crate trained, for a chihuahua he is very quite barks only when needed to communicate. Pepito needs some to show him love and to assure him the world isn't such a bad place. Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Murray is a 2yo one-eyed Terrier mix. He is very good with kids and adults that he knows, but it takes him longer to warm up to men. A few treats helps speed up the process. He likes to chase cats and bark at them, but he’s used to being around them. He is crate-trained. He would greatly benefit from some training classes. Murray is bonded to another little dog (Tina on our website), but they can go to separate homes. He is a sweet little guy who craves lots of attention and could use more activity each day than he is currently getting. Breed: Dachshund-Jack Russell Terrier Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Honey is a very spirited 1yo 10lb terrier/dachsund mix (our best guess). She has a lot of energy and is playful and snuggly with people she knows and trusts, but wary of and takes a few minutes to warm up to new people. She came to our rescue very emaciated, so is extremely food motivated! But can be protective of her food once she has it, so her foster is working on that. She is crate trained and housebroken. She would do best as an only pet, but may do ok once properly introduced and with proper management with a dog who is more passive and indifferent. She lives with a cat in her foster home, but does enjoy harassing the cat when bored. She will thrive in an adult only home without small children, and in an environment that will gently help her associate new people and animals with great rewards! In return, she will reward you with her loyal companionship and spunk! Ray is a sweet year and a half Havanese/poodle mix. He weighs in at 18lbs. Ray is considered a special needs pup since he is completely blind, born without eyes. Ray is able to maneuver about his home and yard safely. Ray is a sweet and loving pup who is learning basic commands. He is learning to walk on a short leash. Ray gets along well the dogs in his foster home and does best with other bigger, playful dogs. He is good with cats but doesn’t understand that cats don’t usually like to play with dogs. Ray is house and crate trained. He rides nicely in the car. Ray is friendly with new people after a friendly hello bark and sniff. Ray is just like any other dog. He likes to play with toys and he even plays fetch. Ray likes to be near his humans. He would love to keep you company while you work around the house. rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Breezy is a purebred 1yo cattledog we rescued from a rural shelter. She came to rescue completely feral. Never been handled by humans before, never been on leash before, never been in a house before, etc. As a result, she needs a special home. In her foster home, she's learned to be crate-trained, she's learned how to walk on leash, has even gone for a few hikes and done great! She gets along great with other dogs, and it is REQUIRED she go to a home with another dog. She looks to other dogs for guidance, confidence, and support. She's fine with indoor cats. She has discovered toys (and things that aren't dog toys..) and thinks it's the best thing ever to shred things. She will need a quiet, gentle, adult ONLY home (NO kids!) who will continue to help grow her confidence. She is skittish, and still prefers not to be touched by humans, so needs someone who understands and respects that, but is learning to be tolerant (and once in a while pretends to enjoy it) if it's sometimes necessary. If you're looking for a social and affectionate companion for yourself, Breezy is NOT the dog for you. If you're looking for a friend for your dog to hang out with and go on hikes with, that's all Breezy needs. She's a sweet, great girl, for the right house. Her best friend is another young female cattledog, her foster home calls them "double trouble". ;) Please, no apartments, and solid escape-proof fenced yard required.
