Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). "BETINNA"--female/spayed--chi/doxie mix--1 yr old Sweet, tiny and a little shy, Bettina is a wonderful little dog that was rescued from a local shelter. Bettina was found hiding under a car. She was terrified of people and even being touched made her cry out. Now in a foster home, she is learning to trust people and be a good companion. She is also being socialized to other dogs and cats too and is having a great time playing, something she probably never did before. Bettina loves to snuggle. When you pick her up, she melts right into you. Bettina is looking for the right forever home - a person or family who can continue to bring her out of her shell with a little love and patience. Contact us at forgottentails@gmail.com Adoption fee is $200 (includes spay, shots, microchip, hw neg and kept on hw and flea prevention)

More About Chiweenie Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Beagle / Retriever / Mixed (short coat). "Honey"--female/spayed--beagle/retriever mix--5 yrs old Honey is a very nice dog that was found scraping road kill off a busy highway to survive. She was terrified of her rescuer and only approached when tempted with food. With a little time and lots of love, Honey has learned to trust humans and has become a very affectionate girl. Honey is a pretty low maintenance dog. She loves affection but is not super pushy about it. She is happy just to be in the same room with you, sitting at your feet or on a nearby dog bed. Honey gets along great with male dogs but is sometimes put off by other female dogs. She's fine with kitties and seems to enjoy their company. She would do best in a quiet or moderate activity home without small children. Honey is very obedient, housebroken and crate trained, walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. She would be the perfect dog for someone who wants a low-key companion. Dog adoption fee is $200 ( includes spay or neuter, vaccines, heartworm test, deworming, microchip). He was found as a stray and taken to a small shelter with hardly any foot traffic so he was brought into rescue. He is as sweet as he is handsome and soooo loving. Although initially Tyler can be a little shy in a new environment, he warms up quickly with gentle encouragement. He is potty and crate trained and loves to play with other dogs so he would do best in a home with another dog. Very affectionate and loves his person too ... likes to chill and be in your lap or cuddled up next to you in bed. Tyler would love to be part of a loving ,forever home and would return that love many times over. Maybe he's the one for you!
