Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Please understand that we get many applications for our available dogs. We review each application and do our absolute best in choosing a home that best suits each dog and his/her needs and personality. Fostered in Hesperia, CA. Picked up pregnant from the Riverside shelter, whelped 3 pups. Sage came in way underweight & suffering from neglect. Sage is a very sweet older girl. She loves to be with you and wants to be in your lap. She does not like rowdy play with other dogs. She is a house guardian. She has typical small dog lap aggression. Sage would be a good emotional support dog. Needs a lap of her own. Quite house. Retired couple. Single woman. No other dogs. Birds, fish, lizards OK. Alert barker, probably not good in an apartment. She's pretty much house trained... .but if I'm gone too she still has accidents, even though she can work the dog door. She's had a rough life....so some should feel really good at making the rest of it the best it can be. Sage is being fostered in CA

More About Chiweenie Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Joey in Texa...

Posted Breed: Chinese Crested-Hairless (short coat). Please understand that we get many applications for our available dogs. We review each application and do our absolute best in choosing a home that best suits each dog and his/her needs and personality. Hi there, my name is Joey and I’m being fostered in Texas. By the look of things I’m not considered a corn fed country boy but rather a long cool drink of water. I’m rather tall and lanky but I have the most beautiful honey colored eyes. I’m a nervous boy and when I met my foster mom I paced in circles all the time. I also wanted to mark. My foster mom had some belly bands made for me which helped but then I went in and had a complete vetting to include being neutered. This has helped me to control my urges and to be honest I really don’t miss them. I have learned so much being here…. I really need someone who can be patient with me like my foster mom. I have other furbabies here and I get along well with them and size doesn’t matter. I’ve learned sit, down, and walk on a leash. I am also crate trained and have no problem because I also eat my food in there. I meet strangers with no problems but I’m cautious and will look to you for reassurance. I don’t show any signs of aggression and with your help I will settle in nicely. I’m looking for a place where I can feel love. I will rub my head against yours and when you pet me I will moan to let you know that I like this. There are still things that I will need to learn so I ask for your patience …. I also like treats and I’m very food driven and quick to learn…..did I mention that I love treats?

We review each application and do our absolute best in choosing a home that best suits each dog and his/her needs and personality. Fostered in Lansing, MI Biography (tell potential adopters about your foster dog): He is mostly quiet but if he hears a noise he will bark. He gets along with the other dogs but does not seem to want to play with them. He likes to snuggle and will pick up a toy and play by himself. He likes to sleep with humans but is crate trained. He has some allergies but with his meds he does great. His skin is very dry and need extra attention. He likes to travel and does well in a car. I have too many dogs to know if he marks or not I have not seen it yet. He will potty outside when let out. He is still getting his shots as he can not have them all at once because he has had past problem with his shots. We are giving him one at a time with at least a week in between. He get a little liquid benydril before his shot and he is doing very well with out any reactions. Vet is trying to keep him from having a reaction to the shots as he has had in past. He is very sweet boy and will be a great companion for someone. I think he would not like the niose of young children but older ones is fine my house can be very noisy at time and he does not seem to want to be in the room with us when the volume goes up. He will do well in a smaller pack or alone.

Posted Breed: Xoloitzcuintle/Mexican Hairless (short coat). Please understand that we get many applications for our available dogs. We review each application and do our absolute best in choosing a home that best suits each dog and his/her needs and personality. My name is Smidge and I’m looking for that special someone who is patient and is willing to take the time to get to know me. I am a very joyful little girl and wag my tail with enthusiasm every chance I get. I absolutely love being around people and other dogs (cats are ok too), but because of my scary past, I am afraid of hands and nervous about being touched or held. I might try to get away, but I’m getting more used to being touched and sometimes I actually like it. I have come a really long way since I’ve been with my foster family, but I need to continue my journey in my forever home. I’m not really cuddly yet, but I’m sure I can learn to snuggle up with the right person. I am housebroken and will definitely let you know when I have to go outside. I will also use a potty pad if it’s available. I am crate trained. Sometimes I prefer to sleep in my crate and sometimes I like to curl up on the end of the bed with my foster mom and dad, just not too close. I almost always come when I’m called. I love treats! Even though I’m not too sure about being touched, I will take treats right from your hand and come back for more! I might even give you a kiss on the hand to thank you. I am young and my foster mom says I’m really smart. With time, patience and love I will be an awesome, lifelong companion. Are you that special person? If you are looking for the cutest thing on 4 paws you need look no further than Smidge.
