Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (long coat). Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Bobby! Bobby is a super sweet dog that was rescued from the Mexicali dog pound. We don’t know how he came into the shelter, but he was likely a stray. ARWOB was able to exit him along with several other dogs. When Bobby meets other dogs, at first he can sometimes act a bit manly and will jump really high when he is excited and happy. But the truth is, he is a big ham and loves to play with other dogs both large and small. Bobby is great with people and children and does okay with cats. He is currently learning to become house trained, but he has not had any accidents in the house or in his crate. He is still learning crate training, but is doing well learning how to be comfortable in his crate. Bobby can become vocal when he hears another dog bark, so his ideal situation will be with a family with a home and a yard or with an adopter who is a stay-at-home mom or retiree. That way he will get the attention he needs and someone to help him learn vocalization manners when he gets excited. We are looking for a foster and/or an adopter for this wonderful little man. Won’t you consider giving Bobby the love he deserves? If you are interested in fostering or adopting this handsome guy, please fill out an online application. Don’t wait! If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. More About Chiweenie Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. ***Courtesy Listing*** Meet Charger, a lab/boxer who is looking for a home! This sweet boy has not had the best beginning and needs a loving and dedicated owner to patiently help him overcome his fears. He continues to demonstrate improvements with his training program. He is so eager to please and quite intelligent. He can demonstrate reactive behavior on leash/walks when fearful. Due to his behavioral issues in the past, it is important for him to be with someone who is willing to continue the training that we have started with a behavioralist so he can continue to grow. The trainer is confident that with consistency and confidence, Charger will make a great addition! He is a sweet and loving boy, but is nervous about the outside world. He did not receive normal socialization in his younger days and struggles with his confidence. Within his home, he loves to play with lots of toys and is extremely loving. He will stick by your side at all times! He loves to play and strives to please at all times! He plays with his foster dogs but is overly excited and is being taught proper dog etiquette. He doesn't realize that he is 50 lbs! He is crate trained, potty trained and currently learning the ropes to living in the human world! His foster family continues to diligently work on giving him the foundation to address his issues. They adore him and can't wait to see him happy in his permanent home! Phoebe is currently fostered by a family with small dogs, big dogs and a cat. Phoebe gets along best with the big dogs and the cat. She can be a little bossy with the smaller dogs, however will ignore them if they ignore her. Even though she is on the smaller side at 14 pounds, Phoebe is very sturdy and active. She likes long walks, hikes and even some jogging. She rides well in the car and loves to go places. She also likes to sit and cuddle with you but does not mind being alone. Phoebe is starting to learn a few basic commands and how to use the doggie door for her outside potty time. She is very smart and would do great in a doggie training class. If dog’s had a theme song hers would be “Me and My Shadow” because she will follow you anywhere. Pearl gets along with other dogs and cats, but she would be just fine alone with you as the center of her world. This adoring, Muppet-faced baby is house trained, and a non-barker. Breed: Border Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Trudie! She and 2 other dogs were relinquished at a local SD shelter. The 3 were under socialized, but sweet. She is a little nervous and not very confident, YET. But, in the right environment, she opens up quickly! She does well with dogs and so far, cats as well. Once she trusts someone, she seeks attention and love from them. She does well in the car and on leash, and is crate trained. Trudie is a very smart dog and well behaved, but still needs guidance from humans especially regarding trust issues. She seems to trust women more than she does men, although she does well with men she knows. Realistically, there are certain people who she doesn't trust and takes longer to warm up to. Because of this, the ideal home is a family with no young children, although teens would be fine, and adults who are dog experienced and can understand when a dog is intimidated and doesn't want to be approached. This will help in the future when Trudie is out in settings surrounded by strangers, but also for her first couple of weeks in a new home and while getting to know each other. She LOVES her people, she loves belly rubs, she loves to gently paw at you with her adorable paws, and is a very gentle girl with small tiny licks on your arm showing how much she enjoys time with you on the sofa or even going on car rides. If you have a large family, roomates, or a hectic home, it will take a while for Trudie to get used to it, but she will with the right help of someone assuring her she is ok and making sure people around her know to give her spcae. For some reasons people always want to touch Trudie even when she is not ready to allow that approach and, hence, the dog savvy adopter is preferred. She is great in her crate and can rest comfortably and quietly, but she also is a great hiking or running partner and dog park girl. She would do well in outtings like dog cafes ONLY if her adopter is vigilant and understands she is not an "in your face dog". When she meets people, she is NOT automatically going to be happy and interested in new people and people should not expect to just approach her with sudden movements if she is exhibiting being uncomfortable around them. You need to read her body language to know if she is ok with that stranger or not. If you are interested in this sweet girl, please file an application online.
