Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Pug / Mixed (short coat). Devon is finally ready to go out into the big world! Or at least to his loving forever home. He is fully housebroken, good with other dogs (his foster sister is a border collie), and ok with cats (as long as they don't get all the attention). Devon loves to cuddle! He tends to be a bit exclusive, but his foster family is working on that. Altogether Devon is a smart, adorable loving "chug" with a cute underbite; any family would be lucky to adopt him! Devon is about 6 years old. Adoption fee for adult dogs is $175, which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations to date, microchip, and heartworm testing. Please apply at http://adoptadog.goodkarmapetrescue.org if you are interested in adopting this dog. We will get back to you right away! You can also call us at 754-200-1738 and leave a message if you have any questions, but the very first step to adopting a dog is filling out an application. Thanks!

More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Blue was found in an abandoned home in Miami Beach tied to a pole and left to starve, He was rescued by a few wonderful Miami Beach Police officers who brought him to a vet where they updated with his shots, vaccines, clean bill of health, etc. He is very loving, loves to be loved, a great house pet, and loves to lay around and sleep, but always up for a good walk. He is good with Kids as I have a 6 year old boy and they get along great with each other. He seems to get along with other dogs with proper introductions but can be dog selective, not sure about cats. He is being fostered at the moment, but can fill any permanent home wit Joy He is a very handsome Gray Pit mix and receives a lot of compliments from the neighbors during his walks. He is about 2-3 years old and 50 lbs but under weight. His favorite toy is a pull toy. The funniest thing he does is when he knows his foster is talking to him he looks at him sideways and won't turn his head to look at him. He's a funny boy and is ready for a family of his own. Adoption fee is $175 and includes DHPP & rabies vaccinations, heartworm testing, spay/neuter surgery, deworming, and microchip. All animals are examined by a veterinarian. Margarita

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Margarita (AKA Daisy) has been through the wringer in her short life. According to the woman who rescued her, she had never lived in a house previously. She was originally found by people as a puppy, and her mother was hit and killed by a car. She was always kept outside of the house in a backyard filled with junk, but was given some food. The people lost their house to foreclosure, and moved on without Margarita. During the time that she lived outside that house she had at least 1 litter that we know about. When she came into the rescue initially she was heavily pregnant, and we raised and adopted out her babies. We tried placing Margarita as a service dog, but her background left her with too many fears. This girl has SO many wonderful qualities! She is completely housebroken and went through a detailed training program as she began service training, so she knows all basic commands and walks on a leash very well. Margarita is submissive and dearly wants to please her people. She gets along wonderfully with children, other dogs, and cats. Her issues come from fear – she is nervous around strangers, and things like loud noises are very scary for her. She needs someone who is home a lot and can give her loads of reassurance and love. Don’t worry, baby, from here on you have nothing to be concerned about!!! Adoption fee is $175 and includes DHPP & rabies vaccinations, heartworm testing, spay/neuter surgery, deworming, and microchip. Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). Please contact Carie for more information about this pet. Daffy is a super sweet American bulldog who was adopted from us in 2013. Fast forward to December 29, 2015, we received a message that she was at the Marion County Animal Shelter. We rushed up that same day to get her and we were horrified at her condition. She was filthy, smelly, nails over grown, missing fur and worst part is she was a walking skeleton. Daffy is now once again safe in our rescue with a wonderful foster family who is getting Daffy all fat and happy. Daffy is good with dogs, cats and kids. She just likes to lay around and hang out. She loves to go for walks and get treats. Daffy really deserves a good home that will love her and care for her forever. Age: Adult
      Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Rocco is an adorable little 10-lb and 10-year-old chihuahua mix that was surrendered to Good Karma. He is an easy-going guy who loves to either sit in your lap or play with his favorite squeaky ball. Rocco gets along well with other dogs and cats and will do with older children. We think he had some mistreatment in his life, and he can be nervous around new people and attention.. but as soon as you start petting him, he doesn't want you to stop! You will notice one of his eyes is colored blue. Our veterinarian said that it appears he had chemical damage to his eye, but he isn't in pain and we can't do anything about it, so it's just something that now makes Rocco extra unique. Adoption fee is $250 and includes DHPP & rabies vaccinations, heartworm testing, spay/neuter surgery, deworming, and microchip. All animals are examined by a veterinarian. Rocko B.

      rescue
      Breed: Italian Greyhuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Italian Greyhound / Mixed (short coat). Rocko is a 2 year old and 10 lb sweet and loyal dog. He gets along great with other dogs. He loves long walks and is very curious and full of energy. You will fall in love the moment you meet him. From his foster mom: Rocko needs a lot of attention, looks like nobody ever had played with him before. He doesn't know how to fetch. I would love for him a loving family that goes out with him to dog parks and take him on vacation too, like a family member. He was very anxious at the beginning, now that I earned his trust, I don't want him to get disappointed again. I fostered Rocko to notice that he was acting like a dog that had been mistreated by their prior owners before he was rescued. He seemed very scared and traumatized, getting stressed by every little noise and sudden movements of human beings around him, like if he had been physically punished before in the past. I also noticed that he was very anxious and nervous of small places, like a puppy that has been locked for long periods of time during his first two years of life. Therefore, his new owner should be very loving and sensitive with a dog that has recently learned to trust people because it took a lot of work, patience, love, and time. Evidently, this is a dog that has lots of love to give in return, he gets attached easily and would be all over you, waiting for you at all times and making you happy, as long as you give him the love, space, time, and respect that every dog deserves. Adoption fee is $250 and includes DHPP & rabies vaccinations, heartworm testing, spay/neuter surgery, deworming, and microchip. All animals are examined by a veterinarian. Posted Breed: Saluki Greyhound / Mixed (short coat). This is Graciela! She arrived in Miami after being rescued from Arman Zoo in Bahrain. She's a little afraid of men, but she's been trying to work on this so she'll have a better chance at finding a furever family. She's very sweet, loves to cuddle and likes giving kisses and hugs and dreams of having a home to call her own. She's good with kids and other doggies. She's about a year and a half old and a Saluki mix, weighing about 35 pounds. She's vet checked, fully vaccinated and spayed. Please contact Angelica Circelli and Colleen Hegarty if interested in adopting! 954-404-3903 774-319-9472 Colleen Hegarty started the initiative “Zoo Dogs of Bahrain,” which aims to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats and dogs from Arman Zoo in Bahrain, a small country off the coast of Saudi Arabia, where she was on a 10 month long government sponsored Fulbright Grant to compliment her degree in Middle East Studies and Arabic. It was there that she stumbled upon "Arman Zoo," where dogs and cats are kept alongside animals such as alligators and baboons to provide entertainment for the public. The zoo has previously made international headlines for abusing a monkey. Here is her account of her experience at the zoo: "I was initially shocked upon entering the zoo- animal abuse had been completely normalized and visitors not only enjoyed, but made animals' conditions worse by banging on cages, throwing rubbish at animals, provoking animals, and poking animals with sticks through the cages. What was most surprising to me was that cats and dogs were in cages alongside baboons and alligators. Cats, ribs visible and missing large patches of fur, were starving and clinging on to the sides of the cages begging for a morsel of food, while in the background sat the zoo's 20+ antique premium cars. Large breed dogs hid in the backs of their cages hoping to not attract attention while visitors paid the equivalent of $3 to “walk” smaller breeds around. The skin on their paws were burnt and their tongues hung out without any access to water during the hot midday sun (with temperatures regularly over 100 degrees) and children continued to drag and kick them as they whimpered and tried to stop walking. Originally, I convinced the zoo manager to let me put ten dogs (now twenty) and all mixed breed cats (but I ended up taking the Himalayans as well, totaling to 24 cats) up for adoption- animals he said he has "no use for". The dogs I took either couldn’t be bred or sold because they were “mixed” breeds or were too sick to be walked by children or bred. I created a successful gofundme to treat and neuter the dogs and cats and prepare them for adoption. The dogs taken out of the zoo had tick fever and were covered in ticks and matted; some dogs were malnourished, had colitis from severe cases of worms, had to have oral surgery for 10+ rotten teeth, had broken knee caps, broken tails, broken jaws, and severe anxiety and food aggression disorders. Cats were so skinny that you could feel every bone in their spine and ribs. Cats were starving and developed mouth ulcers as a result. They were malnourished and covered in fleas and anemic from the fleas and in addition suffered from other conditions like ringworm and eye infections. One cat passed away from severe health issues he suffered as a result of conditions at the zoo. The last cat removed from the zoo was pregnant and had a broken, bleeding nose from being beaten by a zoo worker, which was witnessed by two visitors."
