We hold meet and greets at Pet store locations and we DO NOT adopt out on site at our events. We require a filled adoption application and home visit plus reference checks before adopting out our rescues in care! We don't do first come first served we match best fit for the dog in care. We are an Edmonton Region rescue and adopt out only in this area.  ALL ABOUT CHICO. BIO: Chico is 1and 1/2 years old. ALL ABOUT CHICO. Available for adoption. BIO: Chico has been in his foster home for 6 months and is doing great. Chico was very anxious around people at first but is now starting to relax. Chico will now climb on the couch and happily sit with people and other dogs. He will hop up on me and nuzzle and wiggle into my chest very rarely we are finally getting some happy belly rubs. He does not like constantly being touched, loves being with his person and being carried but will often growl and choose to be alone if petted too much. He needs patience. He is still learning to trust and love people, and will require a home that can understand that he needs his time to trust new people. Chico is good with other dogs, and doesn't bark. He is playful and loves toys and chasing balls, sometimes he may excitedly bark when playing. Chico is house trained, but doesn't like the cold. You have to put him outside when it is cold. If left alone he may whine a little, but is short lived. We have really grown to love little Chico. We have seen him grow from a scared growling neglected guy into a playful, happy, toy-hoarding, funny little buddy. His future home needs to understand that he has been mistreated in the past, and that Chico has trust issues with humans. He is a very nice dog, and is a great companion, but he needs a quiet stable home and someone the doesn't want to smother him with affection right away. He will be your best friend and love you, but new things make him nervous, and he will warn you that he is uncomfortable by growling. You need to listen to his cues and give him space when he needs it. It has been a long road with Mr.Chico, and I know someone out there will love him as much as we do.

More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). I’m a very mellow senior gentleman who likes to take things slow. I do get excited over food and I like my foster siblings very much, even the young ones. It feels good when I get praised for being a good boy and I like to follow my foster parents around. I get nervous when they pick me up, so they tend to wait for me to come to them instead. I especially like it when they sit on the floor and I get to hug. Being near them is very important to me and I’d like a slow pace home that has the time to spend with me. I’m not a big barker, I don’t think they’ve even heard me bark yet. I just don’t know what the big fuzz is all about when someone walks by the window. I’m very good on leash and I like my slow walks. It drives the foster Chihuahuas nuts, which is really funny. I haven't had an accident in the house yet, I just hold it until the back door opens or it’s time for a walk. Please come see me at one of the adoption events and you can see for yourself what a sweet boy I am.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). I’m very playful and am discovering new things all the time. I’m looking for a family that understands puppy like behavior and has the time to spend with me, as I need patience and training. I’m not quite sure about new people and I like to bark at them at first. I met a cat the other day and got a face wash from it. I’ve heard all about cats, but I actually didn’t mind this one. I’ve very excited to learn more about being a good dog and hopefully find a family that’ll want me around forever, cause I’m a sweet little girl who hasn’t had a chance of being loved yet.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Hi everyone! I’m Tyra and I love almost everything about being a dog. I get super excited about playing with my plush toys, especially when foster Mom plays fetch with me. I also like discovering new snacks, such as sugar snap peas. I love making my foster parents laugh with my special prance ‘cause they give me kisses after. I do like kisses and cuddles. Watching movies while getting petted is my favourite thing, now that I’ve learned what surround sound means. Edmonton weather is a bit different than California and I like to wear my fleece jacket when I go outside to potty. I haven’t quite figured out yet how I get outside, but when the door opens I go if I’m warm enough. I also enjoy walking and sniffing stuff outside. I get praised for walking nicely, but I always start out by tugging. I don’t understand why they all walk so slow. I’m not very big and I get scared of loud noises and people running etc. If I bark my loudest bark maybe they’ll stay away. I don’t think I would like a hectic or noisy home very much.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). We think she is beautiful and has a fantastic personality outgoing, Friendly and cuddly. She requires house training, and basic dog obedience from one of the trainers on our list. Sienna is crate trained for sleeping at night and if you go away from home for work. She loves cuddles on the couch /Sofa with you. Very playful with other small breed dogs. Prefers to sleep in the people bed if allowed under the covers. She does play nip occasionally which we are working on addressing so is not suitable for a home with small children under the age of 10.

I love people more than other dogs so I would be best in a single dog just me home. I sort of have house training and I need to be kenneled when you are not home or I get into the garbage
