BIO: Chico has been in his foster home for 6 months and is doing great. Chico was very anxious around people at first but is now starting to relax. Chico will now climb on the couch and happily sit with people and other dogs. He will hop up on me and nuzzle and wiggle into my chest very rarely we are finally getting some happy belly rubs. He does not like constantly being touched, loves being with his person and being carried but will often growl and choose to be alone if petted too much. He needs patience. He is still learning to trust and love people, and will require a home that can understand that he needs his time to trust new people. Chico is good with other dogs, and doesn't bark. He is playful and loves toys and chasing balls, sometimes he may excitedly bark when playing. Chico is house trained, but doesn't like the cold. You have to put him outside when it is cold. If left alone he may whine a little, but is short lived. We have really grown to love little Chico. We have seen him grow from a scared growling neglected guy into a playful, happy, toy-hoarding, funny little buddy. His future home needs to understand that he has been mistreated in the past, and that Chico has trust issues with humans. He is a very nice dog, and is a great companion, but he needs a quiet stable home and someone the doesn't want to smother him with affection right away. He will be your best friend and love you, but new things make him nervous, and he will warn you that he is uncomfortable by growling. You need to listen to his cues and give him space when he needs it. It has been a long road with Mr.Chico, and I know someone out there will love him as much as we do.

More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

No accidents, no resource guarding, not interested in chewing, medium-low energy, very affectionate. It's been too hot for much playing or walking so I'm not too sure about those things. She goes up all the stairs reliably now but down only about 50% of the time. When she overthinks it she freaks herself out. She also does not like to be picked up / carried, very nervous about it, which of course I have to do when she won't go down the steps silly girl. I am sure it will sort itself out very soon though. When she is happy and excited she does the cutest thing (I'm still trying to get pictures). She curls her top lip under so she looks like she is grinning while she shakes her head and bounces her front feet up and down. The toothy grin is the best part. :)

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). I can be shy at first, but I come out of my shell quickly in a friendly and safe environment. I’m a very sweet petite boy but I like to play rough with my foster friends. I especially enjoy fetching sticks and running around the backyard. I like discovering new things, they don’t scare me as much as loud people or kids do. I stopped trying to chew on books and remotes once I found the toy stash. Now I like chicken flavored teething toys and squeaky plush toys. I’m not overly needy for attention but do like a good belly rub and I like cuddling on the sofa. I haven’t had an accident in the house and I walk nicely on a leash. I’m a very good puppy. We are an Edmonton Region rescue and adopt out only in this area. HOUSE TRAINING: House trained at my foster home placement. This could change in a new environment and may takea bit while I adjust to your schedule and routine. Posted Breed: Chinese Crested-Powder Puff / Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat). I see you.  Yes, you.  The one reading my profile.  You may have been attracted to my sweet face.  Or my beautiful hair.  If you met me, you’d be charmed by my quiet demeanor and the look of bliss I get when you pet me gently and scratch behind my ears just right.    My name is Georgie, and I am a Chinese crested/terrier mix.  I’m approximately two years old, but I’m more of an old soul.  I don’t care much for toys, rough play, or being startled.  We’ll get along best if you are slow and patient with me.  I respond well to positive re-enforcement and can be easily redirected when my manners slip. I tolerate small children but would really like an adult only home where we can go for walks everyday and hikes if you like to do that. As quiet and gentle as I am, I get very excited at meal times, when the leash comes out, and seeing my favorite people return home.  You’ll know I like you when I stand up to hug your leg hello, even if you’ve only been gone an hour.   I prefer other dogs when they are calm, in small groups or one-on-one.  I’ve seen cats from a distance, but haven’t made up my mind about them yet.   My perfect day would start with snuggles in bed, include at least one long walk, be followed by a quiet evening in with you brushing my  coat to a fine sheen, and end with more snuggles in bed.  If this sounds like your perfect day too, let’s find a time to meet.   Please email my rescue at Heartprintsdogrescue@gmail.com To find out when I will be at the next meet and greet day.  My rescue doesn't adopt on site at their meet and greet events it is just an opportunity for you to meet with me.  A home visit and reference checks are preformed before an adoption is finalized.  We are an Edmonton Region rescue and adopt out only in this area.
