BIO: Chico has been in his foster home for 6 months and is doing great. Chico was very anxious around people at first but is now starting to relax. Chico will now climb on the couch and happily sit with people and other dogs. He will hop up on me and nuzzle and wiggle into my chest very rarely we are finally getting some happy belly rubs. He does not like constantly being touched, loves being with his person and being carried but will often growl and choose to be alone if petted too much. He needs patience. He is still learning to trust and love people, and will require a home that can understand that he needs his time to trust new people. Chico is good with other dogs, and doesn't bark. He is playful and loves toys and chasing balls, sometimes he may excitedly bark when playing. Chico is house trained, but doesn't like the cold. You have to put him outside when it is cold. If left alone he may whine a little, but is short lived. We have really grown to love little Chico. We have seen him grow from a scared growling neglected guy into a playful, happy, toy-hoarding, funny little buddy. His future home needs to understand that he has been mistreated in the past, and that Chico has trust issues with humans. He is a very nice dog, and is a great companion, but he needs a quiet stable home and someone the doesn't want to smother him with affection right away. He will be your best friend and love you, but new things make him nervous, and he will warn you that he is uncomfortable by growling. You need to listen to his cues and give him space when he needs it. It has been a long road with Mr.Chico, and I know someone out there will love him as much as we do.

More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Oh, hi there.. Are you looking at me? Well this is interesting.. I am a little shy and timid at times but have a big heart to share once I am able to trust you. Unfortunately I am afraid the Y chromosome and we think I may have been mistreated in the past :'(. I do not like sticky little hands in my face so little kids would not be very good for me to be around. Cats are a strange thing to me and when they run I like to chase them, as they look like a weird dog to me. When it is time to go to bed I sometimes run away and leave a piddle trail to follow, as I am a submissive little girl. I also will cry when I am first put to bed :( maybe read me a bedtime story? So Condo or Apartments are out of the question due to my noisiness. I am pee-pad trained but will also go outside if it is nice out and I LOVE to lay in the sun, like omg best day ever! I am content to stay home and play with other dogs my size as long as they do not get up in my face. I am still unsure about the whole leash and walking idea but I am getting better, I just need help with training and patience. Please tell my rescue about your family and why you think I would be a good fit in your family. I need mandatory force-free obedience training and a very secure, fenced yard to keep me safe. *Licorice requires force free dog obedience training classes with a trainer on our list of approved certified dog trainers on our list.* Licorice is not suitable for a home with small children under the age of 8. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). HI my name is Ariel I am about 1-2 years old. I am a Chihuahua Mix girl. I am looking for a family who has another friendly small breed dog like me. I don't do well on my own I love having doggy friends and my people. Things that won't work for me: NO CATS NO LARGE BREED DOGS NO SMALL children under the age of 6. I like older respectful children of my space and won't pick me up all the time as I don't like that. Do you love walks in the warm weather? I do too. Do you like like being warm on the sofa/ couch and watching a TV show on a cold night? I do too! Do you have a fenced secure yard to play in? I love playing in the yard and having room to sniff around, and run around in. I am crate trained, house trained when the weather is nice outside. I am not sure about thud white stuff on the ground so having occasional accidents inside. Obedience Training is a must for me as I have no emergency recall. I will door dash or dig out of a yard if left alone. My rescue is looking for the right match for me and until they do I am happy with laying my head here. My adoption fee is: $500.00 The adoption fee helps my rescue pay for transport, vetting, and care for me. The fee goes to towards to save that next life once the bills are paid. You can contact my rescue via email at Heartprintsdogrescue@gmail.com

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Well hello there. Do you have treats?? Do you want to snuggle me?? I could always use some love :) My name is Rusty and I look like a cute little fox. My rescue friends think I am a chihuahua/fox terrier, all I know is that I am cute and that is all that matters to me. After a long day of playing I love to snuggle up to my humans and sleep in their arms, until I see a cat. Cats are strange creatures, they look like dogs but are way different. They sure do make for good chase friends though, they can run super fast and I haven't been able to catch one yet but I got close!! The cat creature makes a weird sound so I don't think they like me very much :'(. I love to be outside in the sunshine and enjoy my walks. Walks are second best in the world, only after playing with my other small dog friends. I have so much energy that I don't know how I can keep it contained in my small body, but that could be why I play so often and I am just over 1 year old. I am learning to go potty outside but sometimes its easier to go inside, the humans have a special room to do their business inside. Once you learn my ques and if you let me out often I shouldn't have any accidents in the house. Please tell my rescue about your family and why you think I would be a good fit in your family. I need mandatory force-free obedience training and a very secure, fenced yard to keep me safe as I can jump pretty high for my size. We are an Edmonton Region rescue and adopt out only in this area. HOUSE TRAINING: House trained at my foster home placement. This could change in a new environment and may take a bit while I adjust to your schedule and routine. OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Obedience training classes are mandatory with our rescue. Ask about our list of recommended trainers. FENCED YARD: A Secure Fenced yard is a must! RECOMMENDED BUILDING TYPE: House CHILDREN: No children under 10 CATS: NO VETTING COMPLETED: Neutered, Vaccinated with DHPP, Rabies Vaccine, Dewormed X2 with Drontal Plus , Nexguard for Fleas and ticks, Microchipped (EIDAP), Heartworm tested negative results, Heartworm injection Proheart 6 injection to protect against Heartworms for 6 months. ADOPTION FEE: $500.00 includes all the vetting, transport costs and care/supplies we have done for the dog.  Our process for adopting: Please email us at heartprintsdogrescue@gmail.com to request an adoption application which will be emailed to you.
