BIO: Chico has been in his foster home for 6 months and is doing great. Chico was very anxious around people at first but is now starting to relax. Chico will now climb on the couch and happily sit with people and other dogs. He will hop up on me and nuzzle and wiggle into my chest very rarely we are finally getting some happy belly rubs. He does not like constantly being touched, loves being with his person and being carried but will often growl and choose to be alone if petted too much. He needs patience. He is still learning to trust and love people, and will require a home that can understand that he needs his time to trust new people. Chico is good with other dogs, and doesn't bark. He is playful and loves toys and chasing balls, sometimes he may excitedly bark when playing. Chico is house trained, but doesn't like the cold. You have to put him outside when it is cold. If left alone he may whine a little, but is short lived. We have really grown to love little Chico. We have seen him grow from a scared growling neglected guy into a playful, happy, toy-hoarding, funny little buddy. His future home needs to understand that he has been mistreated in the past, and that Chico has trust issues with humans. He is a very nice dog, and is a great companion, but he needs a quiet stable home and someone the doesn't want to smother him with affection right away. He will be your best friend and love you, but new things make him nervous, and he will warn you that he is uncomfortable by growling. You need to listen to his cues and give him space when he needs it. It has been a long road with Mr.Chico, and I know someone out there will love him as much as we do.

More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). I’m very playful and am discovering new things all the time. I’m looking for a family that understands puppy like behavior and has the time to spend with me, as I need patience and training. I may be about one year old and be full grown in size but I still play like a puppy. I am an attention hound who will come up on your lap without being called up and even push other dogs out of the way. I’m not quite sure about new people and I like to bark at them at first. I met a cat the other day and got a face wash from it. I’ve heard all about cats, but I actually didn’t mind this one because she was used to dogs. I’m very excited to learn more about being a good dog and hopefully find a family that’ll want me around forever, cause I’m a sweet little girl who hasn’t had a chance of being loved yet. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). I can be shy at first, but I come out of my shell quickly in a friendly and safe environment. I’m a very sweet petite boy but I like to play rough with my foster friends. I especially enjoy fetching sticks and running around the backyard. I like discovering new things, they don’t scare me as much as loud people or kids do. I stopped trying to chew on books and remotes once I found the toy stash. Now I like chicken flavored teething toys and squeaky plush toys. I’m not overly needy for attention but do like a good belly rub and I like cuddling on the sofa. I haven’t had an accident in the house and I walk nicely on a leash. I’m a very good puppy. We are an Edmonton Region rescue and adopt out only in this area. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). I’m a very mellow senior gentleman who likes to take things slow. I do get excited over food and I like my foster siblings very much, even the young ones. It feels good when I get praised for being a good boy and I like to follow my foster parents around. I am an attention hound who will come up on your lap without being called up and even push other dogs out of the way. I get nervous when they pick me up, so they tend to wait for me to come to them instead. I especially like it when they sit on the floor and I get to hug. Being near them is very important to me and I’d like a slow pace home that has the time to spend with me. Although I don’t shed much or get matted, I like being brushed gently because it feels good. I’m not a big barker, I don’t think they’ve even heard me bark yet. I just don’t know what the big fuss is all about when someone walks by the window. I’m very good on a leash and I like my slow walks. It drives the foster Chihuahuas nuts, which is really funny. Please come see me at one of the adoption events and you can see for yourself what a sweet boy I am. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Pug / Mixed (short coat). Hello! My name is Chico and I am a Chihuahua/Pug mix. I am about 2-3 years old and still full of energy with lots of love to give. I love to play with toys and chew sticks. I am a bit of a hoarder with my favorite toys. I need a family that understands that I need my space at times and do not like to be picked up and petted all the time. I am very comfortable to lay in a doggy bed on the floor or beside you on the couch. The vet has diagnosed me doggy PTSD from before I was rescued, so from time to time I can howl and shake but will calm down after a short time. I was found on the side of the road in California in July 2016, taped up inside of a beer box. It was 100 degrees outside and I was covered in fleas and ticks. There were 150 ticks pulled off of me once the shelter saved me in California. I am not super snugly and if I do come over to get attention please be gentle with me. I have overcome so much and have a big heart for anyone willing to give me the time to see it.  HOUSE TRAINING: Yes OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Obedience training classes are mandatory with our rescue.
