We are an Edmonton Region rescue and adopt out only in this area.  ALL ABOUT CHICO. BIO: Chico is 1and 1/2 years old. ALL ABOUT CHICO. Available for adoption. BIO: Chico has been in his foster home for 6 months and is doing great. Chico was very anxious around people at first but is now starting to relax. Chico will now climb on the couch and happily sit with people and other dogs. He will hop up on me and nuzzle and wiggle into my chest very rarely we are finally getting some happy belly rubs. He does not like constantly being touched, loves being with his person and being carried but will often growl and choose to be alone if petted too much. He needs patience. He is still learning to trust and love people, and will require a home that can understand that he needs his time to trust new people. Chico is good with other dogs, and doesn't bark. He is playful and loves toys and chasing balls, sometimes he may excitedly bark when playing. Chico is house trained, but doesn't like the cold. You have to put him outside when it is cold. If left alone he may whine a little, but is short lived. We have really grown to love little Chico. We have seen him grow from a scared growling neglected guy into a playful, happy, toy-hoarding, funny little buddy. His future home needs to understand that he has been mistreated in the past, and that Chico has trust issues with humans. He is a very nice dog, and is a great companion, but he needs a quiet stable home and someone the doesn't want to smother him with affection right away. He will be your best friend and love you, but new things make him nervous, and he will warn you that he is uncomfortable by growling. You need to listen to his cues and give him space when he needs it. It has been a long road with Mr.Chico, and I know someone out there will love him as much as we do.

More About Chug Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Maltese-Poodle (Toy) Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Location: Leduc, AB
Posted Breed: Maltese / Poodle (Toy) / Mixed (medium coat). Snowy Maltese Poodle mix 1 1/2 years old neutered male. While we are working dog obedience training, Socializing and house training Snowy is unavailable. We want to set Snowy up for success now failure. Snowy Maltese Poodle mix had his spa day bath, nails, and groom. He is looking his best now thanks to Debbie at Wee Breed Dog Grooming. Snowy had his first dog obedience training class with Colleen Diamond In The Ruff Dog Training last Thursday February 23rd. 5 more weeks to go. March 30th is the last class. We are hopeful this will give Snowy some confidence as he is very shy and scared of people he doesn't know. It takes him a long while to get comfortable with people. We are working on a few things with Snowy and Colleen so that Snowy can find his forever family. His forever family is one who understands he is going to have occasional accidents until he gets used to his new family and routine. Not suitable for Condo or apartment living as Snowy barks loud when upset or alone. We are looking for a home with a FULLY fenced secure yard and another small breed dog for Snowy to play with. Children No. Older Teens are ok for Snowy but no small children under the age of 10. We are working on socializing Snowy in a controlled environment to older children. We discovered that children who want to hold and constantly pet him scare him. He will snap out of fear or run and hide in his kennel. Men scare Snowy as well which we are working on socializing Snowy more to feel comfortable. Small successes: He is finally running to the door to be let out for the washroom. This is still a work in progress as he is not 100% yet. You need to pay attention to Snowy when he wants out good rule is let him out every couple of hours. Crate separation anxiety if not kenneled with a friend for at night. Snowy loves his Chihuahua friend Joey. They cuddle with one another. Snowy loves the people bed and laying at your head all night if he could. He gets morning cuddles for 1 hour each morning. Normal routine is to wake up at 530- 6am. During the week 7am on the weekends. Walks well on leash but is barky at other dogs and will lunge if they get too close out of fear. Dog training is helping us address this. Snowy will require some one on one training with Colleen Diamond In The Ruff Dog Training and his new forever family. This is a separate cost not covered by our adoption fees and is included as part of our adoption agreement. ADOPTION FEE: $ 450.00 this includes all the vetting, transport costs and care/supplies we have done for Snowy. Contact us by email at heartprintsdogrescue@gmail.com to request an adoption application. Our process for adopting: Our process for adopting: Please email our rescue directly to ask when our meet and greet days are planned to meet with Snowy. Should the meet and greet go well the next step is request an adoption application which we will email to you directly. Location: Leduc, AB
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Bentley is NOT suitable for Condo living/Apartment or townhouses he requires a secure fenced yard. Hi my name is Bentley 1 1/2 years old. I have a wire haired coat and I do shed. I am Chihuahua / Terrier mix. I am a neutered male. I am fully vaccinated and a total cuddle bug. From his foster home placement *Bentley is still on a Medical Hold until cleared by our vet at the end of March. * All about Bentley. Bentley weighs 5 pounds. We are looking for an ADULT only home for Bentley. No Children No Cats No large breed dogs. Bentley is a goofy little guy with a lovable personality and he makes us laugh out loud all the time. We had the pleasure of fostering him when he was under a year old. He was such a cuddle bug and so adorable with his scraggly hair and black button eyes. He’d make the cutest little whimpering noises when he was looking for some cuddles and he’d hold on to my face with his little paws and kiss all over. Bentley is more self-confident around other dogs. It’s been almost a month and he’s doing fantastic with our dogs. He loves his cuddles and gives the softest little kisses. He still whimpers in my ear asking for pets and he still wraps himself around my neck the minute I lay down on the couch to watch a movie. Sure, he barks when there’s something to bark about and he’ll have the occasional accident in the house if we don’t take him out regularly. He started using peepads with our own dogs, whom are too wimpy to go out in the winter and refuse to walk in clothes, unlike Mr. Bentley who will brave the weather and proudly prance around in his sweater. He walks nicely on leash, doesn't crisscross the sidewalk, pull or bark at people and dogs. Bentley can be a little timid at first but gets over it. The key is to take it slow and with food. Bentley appreciates a good collection of plush toys. In fact, he likes to horde them under the couch. Sometimes all you see is a pile of toys and a little nose sticking out. He also enjoys playtime and is quite active. He likes to spend time outside when it’s above zero and can spend hours in the back yard just goofing around with the other dogs. My significant other also wanted to include that he mysteriously always smells like baby powder. Bentley that is. Overall he’s a funny little guy who needs to find someone who has time to spend with him and will appreciate the kisses and snuggles. Alternatively he would do better with a small canine friend in the home. I am very tiny and only weigh 4.5 pounds. I can not be left alone unattended outside in the yard, I will get hurt. Please come outside with me I promise to pee and poop quickly. I will potty outside and use pee pads inside. I am crate trained for at home and in the car which is safer for me.
