Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel / Shih Tzu / Mixed. Please contact Jill (xianshihtzu@embarqmail.com) for more information about this pet. AVAILABLE FOR SPONSORSHIP AND/OR ADOPTION J J's adoption donation is $175 and he is being fostered in Central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworm and started on prevention. He is also on flea prevention. J J is a special boy. He is a 6 year old Cocker Spaniel - Shih Tzu mix and definitely looks very much like a Cocker Spaniel. He was an owner surrender with his mother, Pearl, who was adopted into her furever home last year. Both JJ and Pearl had not received a lot of vet care in the last couple years. The day after JJ came into rescue, he went into the hospital with pancreatitis and was also diagnosed with diabetes. He most likely had had this going on for quite awhile since there were a few days that were touch and go, but JJ pulled through and is doing very well in foster care! He was a bit chunky when he came into rescue, but he's lost a couple pounds and he's a very good boy for his daily insulin shots. JJ loves to be with his person and he's very well mannered. He will need a home that has a strong vet history, because he does require daily insulin shots, and he will need to stay on a low fat diet since he did have pancreatitis. His condition is very manageable, and his medication is not that expensive. His insulin costs about $20-25 a month. JJ loves to go for car rides and walks well on a leash. JJ is also blind from the diabetes but will follow you anywhere as he sees and loves with his heart. He loves to be with his person, so if you're looking for a sweet companion, JJ is your boy! PLEASE NOTE: If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website, not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances. If you go to the individual webpage of our dogs, you will be able to get more information each dog. Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Our Adoption Process The adoption process has several steps involved. Please review prior to submitting an application. Our adoption process is detailed here: http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs. Special Requirements Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets. The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home. No application is approved prior to the home visit being done. At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs. Out of State Adoptions We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer. We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

    • Maltese Dog For Adoption in Pataskala, OH, USA

      Trey Frankli...

      rescue
      Breed: Maltese
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Maltese (medium coat). Trey's adoption donation is $250 and he is being fostered in Dayton, Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention, as well as flea prevention. Trey is an adorable 9 year old, 8 pound Maltese boy who was surrendered by his owner to a kill shelter when they felt they no longer had time for him. He gets along with other dogs, however he's really not interested in playing with them or interacting much. Even when provoked by the alpha male in his foster home, he just got up and walked away rather than confront. He just likes to peacefully coexist! However independent Trey is around other dogs, he loves people (and may even slightly seem to prefer men to women). He is happiest when he is around you, so having someone who is home often would be best to keep this little boy from feeling down. He loves to lie on top of the sofa while you're watching TV or doing work and just observe. He also enjoys sitting in your lap or near you if you'll let him. He is not a yippy boy, but he has the classic Maltese bark when he feels he needs to alert you to an issue. He has a curious "yowl" that he uses when he wants to communicate with you (like when he needs to go outside to potty or when he's sad!) Hint: when he yowls and looks sad, cuddle him in your arms...he quiets down immediately! He also rides well in the car and loves to go for leash-walks around the neighborhood. He has done very well with potty-training and is also very well crate-trained at night, though he would prefer to be able to politely sleep up in the big bed with you! She has been spayed, microchipped, received her rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention. Gretchen will also have dental cleaning prior to adoption. Gretchen came into rescue from a local kill shelter where she was pulled from the euthanasia list due to her dental disease. Gretchen was dumped at the shelter by her previous owners due to divorce. She is a 9 year old long-haired dachshund who is very sweet and loves people. She has been great in rescue and gets along with other dogs. Gretchen was pretty matted but did very well at the groomer during her spa day. Preference is given to homes with a fenced yard but Gretchen does very well on walks. Sex: Female Female

Posted Breed: Poodle (Toy) / Coton de Tulear (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $275. Please contact Janice (ljpfile05@frontier.com) for more information about this pet. Lucia's (aka Lucy)adoption donation is $275 and she is being fostered in Central Ohio. She has been spayed, microchipped, received her rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention, as well as flea prevention. She has also had a dental. UPDATE: Lucy continues to be a fabulous dog BUT she does have issues of being under your feet as she is such a velcro girl so we will be very cautious with her placement in that regard. She is more an alpha girl so a family with experience in that arena would also be helpful. Lastly, she still has a tendency to be overly exuberant with greeting other dogs (pulling on her leash and barking) and people (pulling to get to greet them) on walks so a strong arm and good control will be essential for her forever family, as well as continued training. The fact that she is around 10 lbs. makes it a bit easier. We are still giving preference to applicants with a fenced yard as she loves to play and will need exercise to help keep her a balanced girl. And she LOVES to go with her people as much as possible. If you are looking for a super sweet girl who loves to be with her people, Lucy is your gal!!! She is a velcro dog and wants to be everywhere her humans are. She isn't a lap dog but she likes to be very close and will lay near your feet. She is estimated to be about 7 yrs. young who came into a high kill shelter as a stray. She walks well on leash (unless she sees people or other dogs, then will pull to get to them), loves to go for car rides, and has good potty manners if kept on a schedule. While she would much prefer to sleep in the "big bed", she does fine in a crate at night or when her people have to be away. She does bark when her people leave so she would not be suited to apartment or condo living. Overall she is a fabulous dog who is looking for a loving home to give her the princess life she so deserves. Lucy is very good with small children who are respectful of small breed dogs. We do not have kitties in her foster home so we don't know how she would do living with a cat. She is great with all the dogs in her foster home. She still likes to play so another dog in her home would be great for her to have a play buddy but it is not necessary. Applicant with a fenced yard will be given preference as Lucy can be a bit of a door darter at first, but she will respond to the "stay" command. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention, as well as flea prevention. He has also had a dental cleaning. Sherman, or Scruffy, as we call him, is a 6 year old, 15 pound Maltipoo boy who came into rescue from a local kill shelter. He was on the euthanasia list because he was absolutely terrified at the shelter causing him to try to fear-bite. Since he was rescued, he has settled in quite nicely at his foster home. Scruffy loves to play with his German Shepherd foster brother, so he is comfortable with gentle giant furbuddies. He has that exciting Poodle energy, so a home with a securely fenced yard and a companion buddy will be required to keep Scruffy happy! Scruffy is crate trained and does well on housetraining if kept on a schedule. Scruffy would love to have a family of his very own to love and play with! Payton has made a lot of progress in rescue and has cleaned up well. He is an active boy and requires a fenced yard and a companion buddy of similar size. Hello!! Welcome to my doggie Page! People say I'm a Happy-Go-Lucky little Yorkie-Poodle mix. But I might have a little Schnauzer in me, not sure! I just love attention of all types and going on long walks on my leash! I like walking fast, so if you're slower than me Hang On and I'll walk YOU! I like to explore the neighborhood whenever anyone opens a front door! : ) So....yeah...I pretty much require a fenced yard to keep me from getting into any trouble. Also, if you keep me on a regular schedule, I will use the backyard to do my business every time! Then I'll roll around in the grass and play for a bit as well! Fair warning...I am a bit territorial when strange dogs are within my vision. I will be sure to give those strange unknown dogs an earfull to let them know they had better keep on moving, especially bigger dogs! I not affraid of anything! At night, I love to cuddle with my master and take a long nap. I'm also a great alarm system when I hear noises at night! I'm not a big fan of toys...I'm a BIG dog now! But don't let my grey hair fool you!...I'm only 6 years old and love to run, jump and play with my family...even the little kiddos!

Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso (long coat). Please contact Jamie (jamietendogs@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Leopold's adoption donation is $250 and he is being fostered in Central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention as well as flea prevention. Leo has also had a dental cleaning. Leopold came to us from the Franklin County Dog Shelter where he was listed for euthanasia. He came into the shelter as a stray and was in extremely poor condition. He is about 8 years old and a Lhasa Apso mix. He has a wonderful temperament and loves to be with his people and does fine with other dogs. He does tend to focus on kitties too much so a home without cats is required. Leo has made an amazing transformation in rescue and really deserves a home where he will be cherished and loved unconditionally. He does well on housetraining if kept on a schedule and he does require some daily inexpensive eye drops to help with tear production and his vision has been compromised but he doesn't seem to notice. Leo would love to find his furever family in time for fall walks and football games on the sofa. Posted Breed: Shih Tzu. Please contact Jill (xianshihtzu@embarqmail.com) for more information about this pet. AVAILABLE FOR SPONSORSHIP AND/OR ADOPTION Cassie's adoption donation is $200 and she is being fostered in Central Ohio. Cassie has been spayed, microchipped, received her rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention as well as flea prevention. Adorable Cassie is a special little Shih Tzu girl and quite the survivor! She came into rescue with 5 other dogs from a hoarding situation near Cincinnati. These dogs suffered incredible abuse and neglect, but 9 year old Cassie required the most medical attention. She had both ACLs torn and required surgery to repair those as well as both of her wrists dislocated and required surgery to fuse the joints. Cassie has been a trooper through it all. Our hope was that she would be able to walk once her surgeries were completed, however, that was not to be. We then discovered that due to the neglect she suffered, she would never be able to properly use her hind legs to walk. But Cassie is very determined and scoots to get whatever she wants! She has a wheelchair that is available to her as well, but Cassie can be a stubborn girl and "just wants to do it herself". She is full of personality and does not let any other dog intimidate her. Cassie may not be able to walk, but she deserves to have a family of her own who loves and cares for her! She does well on housetraining if taken outside regularly. She will require a home with a strong veterinary reference and no children under the age of 8.
