HOPE Dog ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! 07/26/2016 - UPDATE - Hi again, friends - I have a great friend from the kennel who said to tell you that I have been a great boy while I have been at the kennel. No trouble at all for this Rusty! I am a smart guy, too, because if I don't like something going on (like getting my feet groomed) I can "trade" my toys in for higher value things like treats. That has helped me with my guarding of my toys and things. Pretty smart guy, huh!?! So, as I make progress, you need to check in with my CSAC friends to find out all the things I am doing well. I just would LOVE SO MUCH to find my forever home. Please remember to ask about me. Thanks so much - Rusty 04/25/2016 - UPDATE - Hi to all my friends! I am writing a quick letter to tell you how well I am doing lately. I went to an adoption show and was a really good boy. Then I got to play ball with my friends and had so much fun. I just love to play ball and love all my balls and bones. Sometimes I love them a little bit too much and will be unhappy if someone comes near me. I guess I am afraid they will borrow my toys and forget to give it back. My best friend at the kennel is helping to work with me on that. She said I recently found out that I love squeaky toys, too. See, I am learning all the time. My friend says I am super smart. I know sit, give paw, and lay down. I love to go for walks and to be with my people. PLEASE give me a chance. I know the perfect home is waiting for me. I am still waiting and trying my best to be patient. I would love to meet you and show you what a great guy I am. Thanks so much for reading my letter. Love - Rusty Read updates on Rusty's progress while he was in the HOPE Program. Visit Rusty's Facebook page! 11/15/2014--UPDATE FROM RUSTY'S FOSTER MOM-- Rusty has settled down well in his foster home. He is very friendly with all the people he meets. He still does not get along with other dogs, but is okay seeing dogs on walks - he gets a treat whenever he sees another dog. He gets lonely if left alone and howls. He loves to play with his toys. While we are still careful not to grab toys from his mouth, he is now quite okay with us petting him while he plays. He definitely knows what he likes and does not like. He enjoys his walks, and he enjoys his naps a little more. Sometimes, he purrs slightly when we pet him. To sum it up, he is a sweet (couch) potato. If an adopter is willing to understand and work with him, he will be a wonderful addition to his new family. 2/4/14 - Update from Rusty's foster mom: Medically, Rusty has dry eye which requires daily Optimmune and artificial tears daily for life. He is very good about getting the medications in his eye. Regarding behavior, Rusty does not get along with other dogs and cats. He is however playful and likes squeaky toys and balls. Rusty goes to the door when he needs to go outside. He is not food aggressive, but he is toy possessive. He will give the toys up in exchange for other toys or treats. Rusty cannot go to a home with children - he snaps sometimes - it is easy for an adult to avoid aggravating him at those time by watching his body language, but not for kids. He is a sweetheart, but will not tolerate any teasing or rough handling. Rusty barks/whines when left alone, but is fine when he has company. He knows the commands for sit, stay, come, down, roll over, drop it, shake. While on walks, he pulls when he sees other dogs, but otherwise he is good. Sometimes he will go into another room, sit there alone for a while, and then starts howling. He has separation anxiety, and howls/barks continuously, if left alone. He tends to steal food (from trash, counters) and things like toilet paper, clothes - if he is unsupervised. We typically keep these out of his reach. If he does get hold of them, being non-confrontational works best in getting the things back from him (he gets very defensive, but will give the things up if we are gentle with him). He does not like his paws being touched. He loves walks, being brushed and just hanging with his humans. He is big for a cocker spaniel. The following is from Rusty's original intake information when he first came to rescue: Rusty is a 7 year old love bug waiting for his own special adopter. He loves to play outside and go on long walks. Rusty responds very well to several commands and is also crate trained. He is first in line for a hug and a kiss, and will sit with you all evening and watch TV. He is a good watchdog, but is friendly with dogs he meets on his walks and also with their owners. However, Rusty can be very possessive about his toys, his food, and water. Because of this, we feel strongly that he should not go to a home with small children, and he also should be the only pet in the household. If you are interested in providing Rusty a loving home, please complete an application! For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! 09/04/2016 - UPDATE - Princess B here! I am checking in with you after my surgery. My ear is all healed now. I feel so much better, but I do have arthritis. My foster parents give me some good medicine to make me feel better. I am really a pampered gal in my home. I get special baths for my skin condition, and boy, does that make me feel nice. I smell good, too. I still like to hang out in my bed under the dining room table. But I do get curious about what is happening in my house, so I go into Dad's office to hang out with my foster siblings. Life is so much better, but I really want to find my real home. I know my home is out there somewhere. I really am a charmer, so please ask about me so we can meet. You will love me, and I will love you! Hugs and kisses - The Princess 01/27/2016 - UPDATE - Dear Friends - Hi and Happy New Year from your Princess B. I am doing well in my wonderful foster home, but a Princess still faces challenges in life. I found out I have a torn ACL and I need surgery to fix it. I also have problems with my right ear. I continue to be a timid girl, but I do enjoy lots of things like my chews. I am not much of a toy player, but I am a princess, you know! I like to hold court under the kitchen table and relax in my great comfy dog bed throne. My foster mom and dad think I should be the only pup in my forever home so that I can get all the attention that a princess needs. I do get easily intimidated by other dogs, I must admit. I really am eager to find my forever home where I will get oodles of love and affection and will continue to come out of my shell. So, all my friends, if you think you can give this princess the quiet home she so craves and a little TLC, please contact my CSAC friends. I am so eager to meet my new family and continue to blossom in the love of my new home. Thanks for checking on me! Love and kisses - Princess B. 11/10/2015 - UPDATE - After a pretty tough few weeks at the vet hospital, I am here at my foster home getting used to everyone and enjoying all the love. I even have an annoying little brother who is SUCH a pest, but we are getting accustomed to each other. I am a timid girl, but I do enjoy all the pets and love. It is so great to be with my foster family. I am learning to go outside using this neat doggie door that they have. Pretty clever for us pups. This princess is definitely a food lover No diets for me! I get so excited around dinner time. Guess what? My foster family had never heard me bark until we were in line at the drive-thru at Burger King. I barked at the cashier. I was trying to give her my order, but it did not work so well. My foster dad got a kick out of it though. Love to all, Princess B. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Princess B, and I just arrived at the CSAC from a shelter. Right now I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy. A girl cannot catch a break - not only did I need cherry eye surgery; but I also had bladder stones that needed removed. Sigh, soon, hopefully, I will find my forever family that will turn me into a happy, cherished family pet. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! 08/28/2016 - UPDATE - Hi everyone! I recently had surgery for a growth and am doing really well. I am doing my happy dance because the biopsy came back benign! My foster mom says I am healing nicely. I just wanted you to know that I am happy here, but I am still waiting patiently for my new family to come and meet me. Please ask CSAC more about me and hopefully we can meet soon. I cannot wait. Thanks so much. Kisses - Macy 06/29/2016 - UPDATE - I am here at my great foster home enjoying my new life. There are even cats here to hang with. They are just great. I am one of those pups who doesn't like other pups, but cats are just perfect for me. Life is good now. I love my four daily walks. I'm really happy to meet people when I am on my walks. Just love all those pets people give me. I do love my people and am not thrilled when they leave me alone. My foster grandmom keeps me company when Mom is at work. She is so wonderful to me. Guess we keep each other company! I love her. Other great things to let you know about is that I have never had an accident in the house. Never! The groomer says I am a very good girl and extra sweet. I love to sleep, too. I even sleep late because Mom likes to do that. I am quite obliging. ;) I can't wait to be someone's special girl. And remember, I love cats - and cheese - and my people! I know there is someone out there just waiting to meet me and take me home. Love and thanks - Macy 12/04/2015 - UPDATE - My skin is getting better. I only get one medicated bath a week now. They did find out I have a thyroid condition so I do get medicine for it. The Docs removed the tumor that was on my front shoulder. Unfortunately it was diagnosed as cancerous. The Doc thinks she removed it all! Like any cancer survivor, I will need monitored for any re-occurrences. I need a great foster or adopter who will keep me happy, healthy and active. Can you help? Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. My story is sad. I was found abandoned on the side of the rode in a crate left to die. My new life is exciting, yet frightening. Every day I adjust to life in a home more and more. I am very shy around people right now, though I really enjoy other dogs and want one in my furever home. Would you believe I am already potty trained?! AND crate trained?! I am one smart pup! We are working on some other stuff too, like adjusting to doorways and loud noises. I know I will adjust to them eventually, but I really just don't know what it all means yet. Guess what I do know though... I LOVE to collect toys and put them in a pile on the couch. Yes, it is exactly as cute as you can imagine! A family/owner who can help me be safe and loved is ideal for me. I will need patience and a family that can provide me with a martingale collar and harness, so I am safe and secure on walks. Most pet stores have these and Underdog would love to talk to you more about them. I can't wait to meet you! I hope you are just as excited to meet me! Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Please understand that all of our pets are in foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please email us to confirm attendance. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel (medium coat). URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED Violet is currently under-going treatment and learning how to walk again. She is receiving acupuncture, laser therapy, muscle massage and water therapy. She was dropped off at a shelter in Los Angeles, CA. She had a traumatic injury to her spinal tissue and is permanently disabled. However she can pull herself up onto her feet and walk- even run now! She has the aid of a custom wheelcart so she can walk with other dogs and go on hikes. The wheelcart is more of an emotional support for her so she can do things with normal ability dogs. She only uses it for brief periods of time (10 minutes) so she does not develop sores or blisters. She is progressing enough each week and we need a foster home to house her while she can continue to improve and perhaps find a forever home for. She does not have complete control of her bladder due to the spinal cord damage. She needs her bladder expressed every 4 hours- this is easy since she can stand on her own now. Adoption Pending ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! 05/10/2017 - UPDATE - Hi everyone. My name is Becky, but I also answer to my nickname, Reba. Right now I am loving life in a fantastic foster home. I am only a year old, but I know I have never been this happy before. I love my foster parents and get along really well with my three older foster siblings. I honestly think I tire them out because I am always busy. My parents say I am super sweet and am all about playing. I am into everything!!! I even do some work. I help Mom fold laundry, get things from the refrigerator, and put away things in the cabinet. I am curious about everything and have tons of energy. I LOVE to be outside in my fenced yard running and playing. Mom or Dad are always with me, and they do have fun watching me, that I know. Their favorite thing, and mine, is when I play with an empty plastic milk jug. It is the best toy. I can grab it, bite it and shake it. It makes cool noises, too. I even get to play with it in the house. It is the best. We have lots of other fun dog toys, too, and I love treats. Now I want to tell you how much I love EVERYONE. I went to an adoption show and made friends with all the people and kids. I am a kid, so I think kids and I could play really well together. I get so excited meeting people and pups. Mom says to tell you that I am crate trained, and I sleep in my crate at night. Since I lived at a puppy mill, I am not yet house trained, but I am working hard on this. I want to learn all the important things so I will be the best pup I can be for my new family. I will need a patient family to train me and give me loads of outdoor exercise. Sometimes I get nervous and run in circles, but now I have a treat-filled toy that I work on. It is great, and it distracts me, plus I like the yummy treats. I am so, so excited about meeting MY family. I will love them so very much, and I know they will love me and take good care of me. Every morning I am so eager to see my foster parents, and I greet them with good morning kisses. I promise I am going to be thrilled to give my new family lots of special kisses. I know there is a family out there looking for a sweet young girl like me. Oh, what fun we will have together! MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Becky, and I just arrived at the CSAC from the kind people at Spanky's Project. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I am shy because I have not been around a lot of people. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy. Hopefully, I will find my forever family that will help me to understand that I am a cherished family pet, not just an animal to be used to make money. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible. If you can help, please donate.
