ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Beech, and I just arrived at the CSAC from a shelter. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. The vet at the shelter thinks there is something wrong with my tummy but they could not find the issue so the CSAC vet is checking me out and making sure I am healthy. I am hoping everything is ok so I can find my new family that will turn me into a happy, cherished pet. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible. If you can help, please donate. Breed: Cocker Spaniel
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Cocker Spaniel. "Upper Peninsula Animal Wefare Shelter" (formerly Marquette County Humane Society) Leyna arrived to UPAWS after their beloved owner fell ill and was no longer able to care for them. Leyna is longing to find find a new home where she can be loved and spoiled for the rest of her days. She appears to get along with other most other respectful canines and people. What she would love most is a new loving companion that she can devote herself to. Can you be the retirement home that Leyna longs for? With Leyna's age, she does have some medications that are necessary to keep her happy and healthy. UPAWS will help to cover the cost of these medications during the transition to her new home though our "Extra Special Pets for Extra Special People" grant offered by Lil' Bub's Big Fund for the ASPCA and Maddies Fund. 3 months of Leyna's medication will be offered with her adoption. Leyna is currently in an Adoption Ambassador foster home. You can visit her in her foster home and complete the adoption off site- no need to come to the shelter. How cool is that?! If you would like to meet Leyna please call UPAWS at 906-475-6661 and we will put you in touch with her foster family. WEBSITE: www.upaws.org

Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel (short coat). Ginger- Cocker Spaniel- Female - 26 pounds - 10 yrs. Hi Guys! I'm a bossy, demanding female typical to my Cocker roots but what I lack in structure I more than make up for in my beside manner. I love to be spoilt and have a touch of separation anxiety for fear of being abandoned again. I can talk and howl with the best of them but know not be excessive and make a nuisance of myself. My ears and skin have allergies so special food and medication will need to given and maintained for my lifespan so I can be comfortable....its not expensive so I can still be your special someone. I prefer to be the only dog as I don't like to share and get jeolous. I can cohabitate with fellow K9s peacefully but don't like anybody crowding my space or taking my attention. My eyes have a cataract in one of them but my other is still in good working order.....I don't much l ike small kids as they make me nervous and I can be a bit persnickety when touched roughly in the wrong places. Even with the bad I have more good traits that shine through. I am very loyal and will love my family with all my heart! I'm an INDOOR dog and prefer to sleep with my human or on the local couch/chair or have my own doggie bed on the floor. My previous family didn't care about me so they just threw me away without looking back! Please open your home and hearts to me and I won't let you down.....just look at my sad, soulful eyes....don't I just break your hreart??? An adoption application is required - send EMAIL request to: loripasch@yahoo.com =============================== To arrange a one-on-one meeting with this HEART BANDITS dog: 1. HOPE Dog ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! 07/26/2016 - UPDATE - Hi again, friends - I have a great friend from the kennel who said to tell you that I have been a great boy while I have been at the kennel. No trouble at all for this Rusty! I am a smart guy, too, because if I don't like something going on (like getting my feet groomed) I can "trade" my toys in for higher value things like treats. That has helped me with my guarding of my toys and things. Pretty smart guy, huh!?! So, as I make progress, you need to check in with my CSAC friends to find out all the things I am doing well. I just would LOVE SO MUCH to find my forever home. Please remember to ask about me. Thanks so much - Rusty 04/25/2016 - UPDATE - Hi to all my friends! I am writing a quick letter to tell you how well I am doing lately. I went to an adoption show and was a really good boy. Then I got to play ball with my friends and had so much fun. I just love to play ball and love all my balls and bones. Sometimes I love them a little bit too much and will be unhappy if someone comes near me. I guess I am afraid they will borrow my toys and forget to give it back. My best friend at the kennel is helping to work with me on that. She said I recently found out that I love squeaky toys, too. See, I am learning all the time. My friend says I am super smart. I know sit, give paw, and lay down. I love to go for walks and to be with my people. PLEASE give me a chance. I know the perfect home is waiting for me. I am still waiting and trying my best to be patient. I would love to meet you and show you what a great guy I am. Thanks so much for reading my letter. Love - Rusty Read updates on Rusty's progress while he was in the HOPE Program. Visit Rusty's Facebook page! 11/15/2014--UPDATE FROM RUSTY'S FOSTER MOM-- Rusty has settled down well in his foster home. He is very friendly with all the people he meets. He still does not get along with other dogs, but is okay seeing dogs on walks - he gets a treat whenever he sees another dog. He gets lonely if left alone and howls. He loves to play with his toys. While we are still careful not to grab toys from his mouth, he is now quite okay with us petting him while he plays. He definitely knows what he likes and does not like. He enjoys his walks, and he enjoys his naps a little more. Sometimes, he purrs slightly when we pet him. To sum it up, he is a sweet (couch) potato. If an adopter is willing to understand and work with him, he will be a wonderful addition to his new family. 2/4/14 - Update from Rusty's foster mom: Medically, Rusty has dry eye which requires daily Optimmune and artificial tears daily for life. He is very good about getting the medications in his eye. Regarding behavior, Rusty does not get along with other dogs and cats. He is however playful and likes squeaky toys and balls. Rusty goes to the door when he needs to go outside. He is not food aggressive, but he is toy possessive. He will give the toys up in exchange for other toys or treats. Rusty cannot go to a home with children - he snaps sometimes - it is easy for an adult to avoid aggravating him at those time by watching his body language, but not for kids. He is a sweetheart, but will not tolerate any teasing or rough handling. Rusty barks/whines when left alone, but is fine when he has company. He knows the commands for sit, stay, come, down, roll over, drop it, shake. While on walks, he pulls when he sees other dogs, but otherwise he is good. Sometimes he will go into another room, sit there alone for a while, and then starts howling. He has separation anxiety, and howls/barks continuously, if left alone. He tends to steal food (from trash, counters) and things like toilet paper, clothes - if he is unsupervised. We typically keep these out of his reach. If he does get hold of them, being non-confrontational works best in getting the things back from him (he gets very defensive, but will give the things up if we are gentle with him). He does not like his paws being touched. He loves walks, being brushed and just hanging with his humans. He is big for a cocker spaniel. The following is from Rusty's original intake information when he first came to rescue: Rusty is a 7 year old love bug waiting for his own special adopter. He loves to play outside and go on long walks. Rusty responds very well to several commands and is also crate trained. He is first in line for a hug and a kiss, and will sit with you all evening and watch TV. He is a good watchdog, but is friendly with dogs he meets on his walks and also with their owners. However, Rusty can be very possessive about his toys, his food, and water. Because of this, we feel strongly that he should not go to a home with small children, and he also should be the only pet in the household. If you are interested in providing Rusty a loving home, please complete an application! For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! 09/04/2016 - UPDATE - Princess B here! I am checking in with you after my surgery. My ear is all healed now. I feel so much better, but I do have arthritis. My foster parents give me some good medicine to make me feel better. I am really a pampered gal in my home. I get special baths for my skin condition, and boy, does that make me feel nice. I smell good, too. I still like to hang out in my bed under the dining room table. But I do get curious about what is happening in my house, so I go into Dad's office to hang out with my foster siblings. Life is so much better, but I really want to find my real home. I know my home is out there somewhere. I really am a charmer, so please ask about me so we can meet. You will love me, and I will love you! Hugs and kisses - The Princess 01/27/2016 - UPDATE - Dear Friends - Hi and Happy New Year from your Princess B. I am doing well in my wonderful foster home, but a Princess still faces challenges in life. I found out I have a torn ACL and I need surgery to fix it. I also have problems with my right ear. I continue to be a timid girl, but I do enjoy lots of things like my chews. I am not much of a toy player, but I am a princess, you know! I like to hold court under the kitchen table and relax in my great comfy dog bed throne. My foster mom and dad think I should be the only pup in my forever home so that I can get all the attention that a princess needs. I do get easily intimidated by other dogs, I must admit. I really am eager to find my forever home where I will get oodles of love and affection and will continue to come out of my shell. So, all my friends, if you think you can give this princess the quiet home she so craves and a little TLC, please contact my CSAC friends. I am so eager to meet my new family and continue to blossom in the love of my new home. Thanks for checking on me! Love and kisses - Princess B. 11/10/2015 - UPDATE - After a pretty tough few weeks at the vet hospital, I am here at my foster home getting used to everyone and enjoying all the love. I even have an annoying little brother who is SUCH a pest, but we are getting accustomed to each other. I am a timid girl, but I do enjoy all the pets and love. It is so great to be with my foster family. I am learning to go outside using this neat doggie door that they have. Pretty clever for us pups. This princess is definitely a food lover No diets for me! I get so excited around dinner time. Guess what? My foster family had never heard me bark until we were in line at the drive-thru at Burger King. I barked at the cashier. I was trying to give her my order, but it did not work so well. My foster dad got a kick out of it though. Love to all, Princess B. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Princess B, and I just arrived at the CSAC from a shelter. Right now I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy. A girl cannot catch a break - not only did I need cherry eye surgery; but I also had bladder stones that needed removed. Please ask CSAC more about me and hopefully we can meet soon. I cannot wait. Thanks so much. Kisses - Macy 06/29/2016 - UPDATE - I am here at my great foster home enjoying my new life. There are even cats here to hang with. They are just great. I am one of those pups who doesn't like other pups, but cats are just perfect for me. Life is good now. I love my four daily walks. I'm really happy to meet people when I am on my walks. Just love all those pets people give me. I do love my people and am not thrilled when they leave me alone. My foster grandmom keeps me company when Mom is at work. She is so wonderful to me. Guess we keep each other company! I love her. Other great things to let you know about is that I have never had an accident in the house. Never! The groomer says I am a very good girl and extra sweet. I love to sleep, too. I even sleep late because Mom likes to do that. I am quite obliging. ;) I can't wait to be someone's special girl. And remember, I love cats - and cheese - and my people! I know there is someone out there just waiting to meet me and take me home. Love and thanks - Macy 12/04/2015 - UPDATE - My skin is getting better. I only get one medicated bath a week now. Things have been going so well for me since CSAC rescued me when I was at a shelter. I was a stray boy wandering around and being lonely. Luckily, my new life is really happy. See, I have the best foster mom and two pup siblings. I even live with a cat I like. Mom says I love EVERYONE, people and animals. When we go for walks, which I love, I am excited to meet everyone. And I don't even bark at other pups. I am a real gentleman. I am an older guy so I have some of those pesky things that come with age. My vision is not the best, but I certainly get around just fine. I see my food and treats and my favorite squeaky toys. All important things! I need to take some medications but I am great with that. Mom says I am the sweetest boy ever. She and I love to sit together on the sofa. I always like to be near her. We really love each other a bunch. I know I will LOVE my new family when they find me. I am a real gem of a boy. Please let CSAC know you want to meet Elmer. Thanks so much. Hugs and kisses - Elmer MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Elmer, and I just arrived at the CSAC from a shelter.
