verifiedPosted Breed: Cocker Spaniel / Pomeranian / Mixed (long coat). Hey! I'm Copper! I am a 5 year old neutered Cocker Spaniel mix. I am a very sweet boy who just wants a family to love me as much as I would love them. I'd enjoy going for daily walks with my new family or some longer adventures on the weekend. I would also settle for some cuddling on the couch as well! In my previous home I lived with children and I did great with them! I have not been around to many dogs though so a meet and greet will be required if you have other pups at home. I promise I will give you a lifetime of love. Please think about giving me a new home to call my own! Before you begin the adoption process, first think about what you want in a pet and whether you are ready to bring one into your life. At HAHS, we’ll help you find an animal companion who’s just what you’re looking for. You’ll have a conversation with one of our adoption counselors about your preferences, your lifestyle, and your household so that we may guide you in choosing your new pet. Before you get started, be sure you can answer “yes” to these questions: Do you live in a place where pets are welcome? (If you rent your home or land, you must have permission from your landlord to adopt a pet.) Are you committed and able to care for an animal for his or her whole life, investing time and money into a new pet? Are you committed and able to providing regular veterinary care for a new pet? The Adoption Process: Step 1. Browse our pets available for adoption on our website hornellanimalshelter.org, or visit our shelter and meet our animals in person. We require that the whole family come to the shelter to meet the pet you are considering. If you’re adopting a dog and have a dog(s) currently living in your home, you will be required to bring your dog in for a meet and greet. You must provide proof that your dog(s) are current on their rabies, and distemper vaccines prior to setting up a meet and greet. Step 2. Visit our shelter, or website hornellanimalshelter.org to fill out an adoption application. You can find the adoption application under the "forms" tab on our website. Once the application is completed please submit it to us via email, fax, mail, or dropping it off to the shelter. Once we receive your application we can begin the approval process. **Please note that the approval process can take anywhere from 1 to 7 days depending on how soon we can reach your references, veterinarian, and landlord (if applicable)** Step 3. Once you’ve been approved to adopt, you’ll pay an adoption fee — and in most cases you can bring home your new family member right away (provided the animal is of age for adoption)! In some cases, depending on the age, and status of the animal you have been approved for, the animal may be sent out on a foster to adopt with you. Typically this is done when an animal still needs to be spayed/ neutered, is not old enough to be spayed/ neutered yet, is on medication, or if you want to make sure the animal is going to be a perfect fit. If this is the case, then an adoption counselor will let you know the length of which the animal will be on foster to adopt, and when you will be able to finalize the adoption. Congratulations! WHAT’S INCLUDED IN ADOPTIONS When it’s time to bring home your new friend from HAHS, you’ll be surprised how far your adoption fee goes! The fee you’ll pay to adopt a pet includes these important benefits: Spay/neuter surgery Age appropriate vaccinations to keep your pet healthy, including a rabies vaccination for animals older than 3 months Deworming medication A feline leukemia and feline aids test Flea treatment A microchip implant (dogs only, to microchip a cat there is an additional $30 fee) A certificate for a free office visit with a participating veterinarian A sample of food ADOPTION FEES When you adopt from HAHS and pay an adoption fee (which reflects only a portion of our investment in your new pet), you help us continue to care for the homeless animals in our community and make sure they are safe, protected, and loved. The following fees apply to animal adoptions DOGS Adult (1 year and older): $100 Puppies (under 1 year): $150 CATS Adult (1 year and older): $60 Kittens (under 1 year): $80 If you have any questions regarding the adoption process please give us a call at 607-324-1270.
