Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Vickie (dvbrooks57@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Meet Lola... she is a fun, and loving girl who loves to play. Lola is great with other dogs and is very gentle and sweet. She is 2 years old, and 55 lbs. She would do better in a home with older kids. Lola needs someone to take her to training classes to help her excel in the wonderful dog she can be. ME 9/14/15 As Celebrate Home Dogs, the total fee, which includes adoption and transport, is only $200.00. Our goal in lowering the fee is simple. We want to get them into your home as quickly as possible. They have been waiting too long, and they need their own beds (or yours) in their own home. This all includes quarantine, worming, all vaccines, heartworm testing, heartworm and tick/flea preventatives, neutering, health certificate, transport, and complete medical records.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Unknown-Whippet Mix

      Age: Adult
      Location: Yardley, PA
Posted Breed: Whippet / Mixed (short coat). Copper is a special needs dogs in search of a home with other dogs. He is about 2 1/2 years old and weighs 40 lbs. He is neutered and up to date on shots. Here's what his current owner says: In April of 2015, I adopted a dog from a local animal rescue organization. He was badly neglected and had never lived inside when he came to me. I have taught him to use the stairs and not be afraid of ceiling fans along with may other daily activities. He has come so far and I am now realizing he is not progressing any more and will always have his special needs. I have tried herbal remedies, prescription medication, training (for confidence), doggie day care, and even adopted a second dog. He is always in the second bed room hiding and never has fun at home with just myself and his sister.. BUT he thrives in households with multiple dogs. When I visit home and everyone brings their dogs together, he is 100% different than when he is at home alone with me. He is happy and plays and runs around with them, with so much less time in another room alone. Unfortunately I cannot support the multiple dogs needed to make him happy. That is why I am reaching out to you. I’d like to find him a home with someone who has had special needs dogs and that has many dogs already. This person would definitely need to have experience with neglected dogs, so there is no surprise with his quirky behavior. Adoption fee $200 Transport, if needed : $120.00 We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip from Alabama. We make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs.

Posted Breed: Canaan Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Her foster had to rescue her from the high kill shelter. She just had to. You see, Biscuit looks just like the very first dog she had rescued when she created Crossing Paths. So, she brought Biscuit and her puppy of almost 5 months out of the shelter and into the arms of rescue. Biscuit is a 2 year old mix of Canaan Dog and Labrador Retriever. She is an overweight 59 pounds, but she'll clearly be thinner than that after her diet., so we'll put her in the medium size range. (Don't even get her started talking about the diet!) We knew when she came to us that she was, indeed, overweight and that she had a puppy, but we didn't know she had heart worm, for which she has been treated, or that she was pregnant again! To look into her most loving eyes which reflect all that she's been through, your heart melts and you want to take her home. The head of our rescue did. How about you? (posted 3/5/17, ME, N/A) **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our wonderful dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our many years in rescue.** Adoption: $285 which covers quarantine, shots, worming, food, medical records, spaying/neutering, and an Alabama State Health Certificate. Transport, if needed : $120.00 We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip from Alabama. Sheldon is a 1 year old mix of Border Collie and Flat Coated Retriever, a fine mix indeed! At 35 lbs. he is quite manageable, but don't forget that both breeds need some physical time every day! Longs walks, romping around the yard, and chasing a ball would be a good start! He is definitely not meant to live in an apartment or in the city. Sheldon's foster calls him "an awesome dog in lots of ways!" See if you can find more than lovable, loving, sweet hearted, and always ready to spend time with you! Posted Breed: Brittany / Mixed (medium coat). Gardner is a Brittany Spaniel mix of about 6 months. He presently weighs 21 lbs. and will mature to 40. His medium coat of red and white is beautiful. These are the physical facts about Garfield, but there's much more to know about him and his brother, Garfield (also up for adoption). Garfield and Gardner both need a lot of TLC. They had been pulled from under the porch of a dilapidated house, and they were really frightened. They still are. After all, they had been born under that porch, and they were sheltered there. Out in the world, they had no reason to believe that they'd be with friends. But they are with friends here in rescue where everyone takes a bit of time each day to quietly sit with the boys, letting them know that they won't be hurt, letting them know that they're here to chill and relax and maybe roll a ball or two. They do love to play ball, and they love toys, too. But they won't be ready yet to play with small children who may unintentionally frighten them. These are two boys who need true saving; they need families who will give them time to be convinced that being under a porch isn't all there is to life. Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Only hours left before Cindy was going to be euthanized, and the shelter called and asked us to take her instead. The people at the shelter loved this girl, and didn't want to do it. But her time had come. As always, Crossing Paths brought her into rescue and discovered that she was quite pregnant, the next day giving birth to three males (Cocoa, Clay, Chester) and two females (Cleo, Cricket). They are also up for adoption. Although we only knew Cindy's history as far back as the shelter that had called us, we could tell just by looking at her that she had had multiple pregnancies. We don't know if that was simply because she was on her own, or, and this is very likely, if she was used as a breeding dog by uncaring humans. No matter her experience, however, she came to us a sweet and loving girl. She is shy but will come to you in a gentle manner, and you soon realize that all of her movements are gentle, almost poetic. She is selective about which dogs she likes, and one has to wonder what she may have encountered with dogs before. At 3 years old, Cindy is an American Bulldog/Terrier mix. Her short coat is silver and white, and she weighs 65 lbs. This gentle and sweet girl loves humans, loves to be with them and loves to be petted by them. She's such a good girl who needs a forever home that, hopefully can offer her a fireplace where she will feel warm, comforted, secure, and loved. We feel that her time has come, but to be adopted, not euthanized.
