    Sex: Female Female

Posted Breed: Coton de Tulear (medium coat). Betty is such an funny girl. Her whole life she has been stuck in a small cage in a puppy mill, making babies. Not much human contact, and what contact she did have must not have been pleasant. It took a month for her to relax enough to let me touch her. Now she seems to be having the puppyhood she never had. She loves to play with the other dogs, instigating games of tag and catch-me-if-you-can. She loves petting and cuddles, if you approach slowly and gently. I know she is making great progress because she went from cowering in the far corner of the back yard to sleeping in a dog bed in the bedroom, on her back, belly up and legs all sprawled out. She is still not totally trusting, but I think she is very close to a big breakthrough. It is time for her to start her happily-ever-after life and fall in love with her new family instead of with me. It is going to be so much fun to watch her blossom into an awesome best friend. Adoption donation requested is $850. Betty just had her sixth birthday. Happy Birthday Sweet Girl! Congratulations on your liberation. We do not charge an adoption fee, but do ask a donation to reimburse for our expenses. Now that we are officially a 501c3 charity, all donations are tax deductible. We are not a brick & mortar shelter. All of our dogs are fostered in private homes. If you would like to help with fostering, please submit an adoption application Each dog will be spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (negative, unless stated otherwise), treated for parasites, and up to date on shots. While we are vigilant to get everyone as healthy as possible before we send them off to start their new lives, it is to be expected that, after the stress of traveling across the country from Kansas, (where most of our dogs are rehabilitated), and going to a new home, they will probably need to be retreated for parasites. We want to stress that your new friend needs to be seen by your veterinarian within the first week of arrival. We absolutely guarantee a happy adoption, or you MUST return the dog and we will undo the contract. If you are not happy, the dog is not happy, and we are not happy. We are in this to make the dogs happy. See more about us and to get an application form, go to our web site; http://nnewestierescue.org Not much happens until we receive your application. And check out our latest adventures on our Facebook page; http://www.facebook.com/NNEWR You may contact us at: Rescue@nnewestierescue.org. Posted Breed: Coton de Tulear (medium coat). This adorable little guy has spent all of his life in a small cage with very minimal human contact, and what contact he did have was not kind. He has been pretty damaged, but he has great spirit and a positive attitude, and has come a loooong way. He still has a lot of work to do, but he is no longer too afraid to learn. He is ready to quickly adjust to having his own family, and all their love and affection. For awhile he may be a flight risk, but he should quickly learn to love and trust his new family, learn to snuggle and play, and learn to not potty in the house (he has already learned to potty outside, but he has not thought about holding it until he gets out there). He is so sweet, only 4 yrs old, and with your help, has a chance at a long happy life ahead of him. A very special boy! Adoption donation requested is $850. Bobby doesn't like his picture taken and will not look at the camera, but I'm working on it. We do not charge an adoption fee, but do ask a donation to reimburse for our expenses. Shallbe

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Coton de Tulear
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Coton de Tulear. Shallbe is a Coton de Tulear. She is 12 Years old, 22 lbls, Healthy (with some controllable issues - see below), Housebroken and wee wee pad trained, Spayed, Up to date on shots. She is a overweight but will slim down if she can be walked more often for exercise. Although she is healthy she does have some issues that require upkeep. 1) She has severe dry eye, and does not produce ANY tears... so she requires artificial tears - drops 2-3 times a day if possible. and tacrolimus prescription drops 2 times a day. 2) She has allergic dermatitis that is now controlled with a completely fish only diet (no chicken, lamb, beef etc) This goes for treats too! Only fish diet with no other protein ingredients in it. She is currently on Blue Buffalo Canned Fish and Sweet Potato diet. (DO NOT... go off this diet or she can break out in sores on her skin) Even then she often will get a few dry crusty patches so we also give her 1/2 a 10 mg Zyrtec Tablet 2 times a day to keep it under control and she should only be bathed (at least every 2-3 weeks) with a medicated shampoo called: MALASEB Anti Fungal Shampoo She loves to follow you around and be petted and give licks... She loves to go for walks! She loves belly rubs and will roll over to get them. She is now used to getting her drops in her eyes and is good for it. She is really a love when you get to know her and loves to be with her human! She just needs someone to give her a chance. She is fine with being left alone for a few hours and hardly barks ever. Only on occasion if you are late with her breakfast LOL. She does not like her tail or back legs to be played with, brushed, cleaned or fussed with. She may try to nip initially, but is more of a faker... (lol) she tries to nip then licks you...So we prefer someone who is a strong leader. This will subside once she gets to trust you and love you. She needs an adult home with no young children under the age of 15 and an EXPERIENCED dog owner and STRONG PACK LEADER that has the patience and know how to help Shallbe with adjusting to her new home. To go to the vet or the groomer she has to be muzzled to be safe and make it easy for the vet and groomer (which I have one for her & she is fine with it) She prefers to be the only pet in the home... She does sniff and wag her tail at some dogs, but will growl and bark if they go near her bed or food or if they are alpha or aggressively trying to jump on her. She also will do this sometimes meeting dogs on leash so she should NEVER be let off leash to play with other dogs! She is partially blind from the years of untreated dry eye (but can see shadows) and sees well enough to get around her surroundings once she knows them and to walk outside with you on a leash (just watch for holes or things sticking up out of the ground and steer her away from them as she doesn't see little things well) She is also has diminished hearing but can hear loud claps or vibrations or very loud voices. Due to her weight and site issues she can not climb stairs (one or 2 is ok with the help of a leash) but no more than that. She is about 22 lbs and pretty heavy to pick up and carry (if you ever did have to go up stairs) If you are from the NORTHERN NJ or surrounding area....and you think you can give Shallbe the attention and love she needs. Won't you consider opening your home and heart to this little cutie? If you are interested in possibly adopting Shallbe, please fill out our Adoption application at: http://www.bichonrescuenj.com/bichon-frise-rescue-nnj-adoption-app.html Due to the volume of emails we receive, we cannot answer individual emails; if we feel your home may be a match for a dog, we will contact you usually within one week of application submission
