Posted Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Dolly 9 years old / 10 pounds $150 adoption fee Hi, my name is Dolly. I am a 9 year old, 10 lb. red smooth girl. I think I’m a perfect size for a lap dog. I am scared of most men so I would really like to have a Mom be my new family. I get along very good with small dogs, love big nice dogs, and I’m good with cats. I would be good with older children who will treat me kindly and with respect. I am very mindful and come when called. I am working on my potty skills, so I will need my new family to be patient and kind. I love to sleep in the big bed under the covers. My favorite treat is a rawhide chew. I am afraid of thunder and loud noises but I am sure I would be okay if my new family snuggles and comforts me. I am looking for my forever home. Are you my new forever family? I promise I will love you forever. Dolly is being fostered in the Jacksonville, Fl area. She is up-to-date on shots, spayed, and on heartworm and flea preventative. Please complete an application and the foster home will contact you! Please scroll to bottom of page for additional info about me and my email contact. If you know that I am your forever dog please fill out an online application at www.daretorescue.com and put my name on it. If you can not adopt me but would like to help DARE pay for my care while I am in their care please send check or money order made payable to DARE to: DARE 4495-304 Roosevelt Blvd. PMB 179 Jacksonville, FL 32210 You can also contact us at info@DAREtoRescue.com Even if you do not see a dog that matches what you're looking for, you may fill out a no obligation application and we will work to find a match for you. We receive dogs into foster care almost daily, so it is impossible to have every available or soon-to-be-available dog on the website.

More About Dachshund Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua (short coat). Juanita, the Chiweenie This sweet loving girl was dumped at a kill shelter because she was "too old". But this spunky little gal is full of life and tons of kisses. She loves children and everyone else she meets and gets along well with other dogs. Cats are an unknown. She is quiet in the house and walks well on a leash. She is 16 pounds and could stand to lose a little. She is about seven years old and in very good health with the exception of being treated for very mild heart worms. Juanita is blind in one eye, but it doesn't slow her down a bit. It appears to be a condition she has lived with all her life. She is microchipped, up-to-date on her shots and needs a loving family to call her own. Posted Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Jared is a sweet 7 year old, 11 pound dachshund. He came to DARE from a shelter who confiscated him as part of an abuse case. It is not the life any dog deserves but DARE is making sure Jared has a good life now. We want him to have a Great life, but that is dependent on YOU! You see, Jared’s Great life includes a forever home of his very own. Jared had a back injury at some point in his life that was left untreated. DARE provided him treatment, though it was far past the point where surgery was an option, and he is now walking with a cute little wobble. He does not have bladder or bowel control so a home that understands this is a must. He would love to be an only dog in a quiet home but he is okay with other dogs and might be okay with cats. He is an absolute love and cherishes large amounts of attention from his humans. If you think you could give this special boy the happy home and Great life he deserves please fill out an on line application at www.DAREtoRescue.com Please scroll to bottom of page for additional info about me and my email contact.
