Posted Breed: Dalmatian / Pit Bull Terrier. Dexter is a 1 year old Dalmatian mix. He is a rescue from Hurricane Harvey who would love to find an active family. Dexter gets along with kids and other large dogs but no cats please. Dexter is current on his vaccinations, microchipped, heart worm negative and neutered. All of the rescues from Texas were already in shelters before the hurricane. Our pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations before they are adopted. Please call PAWS at 435-688-9748 for more information about this pet. If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.dixiepaws.org and submit an application.

    Rose #2

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Dalmatian
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dalmatian (short coat). We are looking for the perfect new home for our beautiful liver-spotted female Dalmatian. Rose is a companion dog who loves to snuggle and play, loves tennis balls, rope “tug of war” toys, and plush toys with squeakers. She will be 10 years old on January 19, 2018, but as her photos show, she looks and seems much younger. Rose has been an impeccably well cared for pet since she was a puppy. She is heartworm negative and on preventatives, she is completely up-to-date on all her shots (required shots and additional vaccinations), she is spayed, and she is an indoor dog. Rose has always been under the care of a vet and has never missed an annual checkup. Though she is “uni” (meaning deaf in one ear), she hears very well, is fed a high-quality diet, and has no health problems at all. She has one blue eye and one green eye. She is around 31 pounds, so she is quite small for a Dal--people have asked me if she is “miniature,” but she is not. In fact, both of her parents were champion show Dalmatians. Many people assume she is a puppy due to her beautiful, soft coat and petite size. She really is a strikingly beautiful and loving dog. She is extremely healthy and active, and we believe she has many more years of healthy life ahead. We allow Rose on furniture, and she sleeps in bed with us. During the day while we are working, she is crate trained and can spend up to 8 hours in her crate without an accident as long as she has been out on a walk beforehand. Rose is taken on walks regularly and is out in our fenced yard exercising as well (on an additional tie out due to her tendency to hop the fence...she can jump a 4 foot fence if she has something to "launch" off of). That said, when we are busy, she is content to take very short walks or just "do her business" in the yard and then curl up and sleep on the couch. We absolutely adore her, but we have a baby on the way, and this was not at all expected. The issue we are facing is that Rose is fine with older children and teens, but she is especially not good with babies or small children. She has consistently snapped at and/or bitten them. We have been able to manage this by avoiding having small children coming to our home or having our teenaged son keep her separated from them if they do. However, this is not going to be practical with a new one actually joining our family. After conferring with her vet, we all feel that rehoming is the best option for her. We are hoping to find a single person, a couple whose children are already teenagers (or at least 10 years old and mature), a retired couple whose children are grown, or a couple that does not plan to have children for several years. The average life span of a Dal is about 14 or 15 years. <p> While Rose gets along with some dogs, she is inconsistent on this front and has attacked other dogs without provocation. We are, therefore, seeking new owners for her that do not currently have dogs. Ideally, we would also like to find placement in a home that has already had a Dalmatian and understands the breed and their needs, though this part is negotiable as long as the new owners are experienced dog owners/handlers and as long as the potential new owners are committed to learning about the needs of Dalmatians. Rose is sometimes anxious alone and prefers being with people. She has done very well with pet sitters and visitors, but she is fearful of new people at first and must have time to get to know them. Of utmost importance is that new people do not put their faces toward her face, which has made her snap (but not bite). Rose requires these extra precautions with strangers, but when she is with “her people,” she is sweet and amicable and really loves to cuddle. We had to work and live in the UK for four months in the fall of 2016, and she bonded very well with her pet sitters. We regret that these young men are not living in housing that will allow a dog, but we are encouraged that she bonded so quickly to them. This experience leads us to believe that Rose will adapt and bond with her new owners once she feels safe and cared for. We really do you want a person who is interested in the breed in earnest and/or already has had a Dalmatian. Rose will come with heartworm preventatives, a beginner supply of food, treats, toys, and chews, her crate, and her “gentle leader” leash. The baby is not due until early February, so we are starting early in the hopes that this will give us time to find the perfect placement for her. We want to avoid foster situations, and we absolutely will not bring her to a shelter or SPCA. A $100 rehoming charge in the form of a tax-deducible donation to this Dalmatian rescue organization is requested in order to dissuade those with nefarious intentions. Serious inquires only, please. We are located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, but we are happy to transport her up to a few hours from here for the right placement. She is excellent in the car…she mostly just curls up and sleeps. If you are within 150 miles of us and Rose sounds like the right fit for your situation, please get in touch with me at Cathryn.molloy@gmail.com to schedule an initial phone meeting. From there, we’ll invite you to visit us here in Harrisonburg so that you can meet Rose face-to-face. Our last step will be to bring Rose to your home and to take a look around to make sure her new home is the right fit for her. If everything looks good, we will be prepared to leave her with you at her new home.

    Dotty

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Dalmatian
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dalmatian (short coat). If you live in DC, MD, or VA, go to www.ccdal.org for an application form . Dotty is a wonderful girl who strayed onto the porch of a friendly farm owner. She was let in for the night, fed, and kept warm until the county animal shelter could pick her up. Her owner never came to claim her, and we suspect he just didn't want her any more and abandoned her in a remote part of the county. She came into the county shelter with a body score of 2/5...severely underweight, dirty, literally starving, and with every bone visible from across the room. The good news is that she was NOT heartworm positive. She did, however, have Lyme Disease and Ehrlichia as well as filty, infected ears. Between the shelter vet and the rescue's foster mom, Dotty is now completely vaccinated (including required boosters), gaining weight (though still less than 50 pounds), and on the road to health. She had a cyst removed from her shoulder, and she still needs to be spayed when she is stronger. Dotty has been a model guest in her foster home, where her favorite passtime is laying on the back porch in the sun. She is still excited about seeing her food bowl twice a day, and she is walking better now that she has been been on a joint supplement. When her vet says she is strong enough, she will be spayed. When recovered from that surgery, Dotty will be ready and eager to move into her forever home! Keep checking back for updates. To learn more, go to www.ccdal.org or email us at ccdal@comcast.net.

Local Adoption Only (44720) Meet Annie! Annie is a 4-year-old, liver spotted Dalmatian that is on the search for a family that can keep up with her! Dalmatians were bred for running and endurance and as such, Annie has become accustomed to a very active lifestyle (daily long walks, treadmill, chuck it, bike rides, runs, and romping in the backyard)—she could play and run for hours if you let her! It wouldn’t be right to take away her greatest love, so we are asking that her adopter have a fence or an e-fence (this depends on the type of area you live in) so she can run to her heart’s content! When playtime is over, Annie loves spending time with the family! She is great with children who are respectful of dogs and she loves her dog bed! She even knows how to stay in place on command. That being said, Annie is also housebroken and crate trained; she isn’t very vocal, either. If you can believe it, Annie wasn’t always so social—This lovable girl came to us quite scared. After behavioral and obedience training, Annie has blossomed into a wonderful dog! She now knows SO many commands and is even trained off leash; she has a top-notch recall, walks at a heel, doesn’t jump and, most importantly, she gives the best hugs in the world! We would hate to see the progress she has made unravel, so we are requiring her adopter to continue her training and be willing to travel to the North Canton, Ohio area for periodic follow-ups with her current trainer (and foster) while she settles in with her new family. Annie would love to be adopted by someone that has experience in training dogs for agility; show competition, hunting dog, etc. She does live with dogs now, but can be uncertain of new four-legged friends so she should be the only pet in the house unless you have training experience. We know this sounds like a tall order, but we know Annie’s perfect home is out there! If you can provide her the structured, active and loving home she needs, she would love to meet you! She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and current on HW preventative; her adoption fee is $250.
