Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher / Hound / Mixed. Briggs is quite a handsome boy. You can see his partial Doberman heritage when you look at him but his demeanor is quite different. Briggs is a very shy and soft-natured fellow who is still working on building his confidence. When he’s in familiar surroundings with his fellow dogs and people, he is a happy-go-lucky, playful, extremely loving pup, but he is reserved and uncertain in new situations and with new people. And that is why this sweet boy is still with us – he just doesn’t show people his true personality when he is out and about to meet people. It’s sad because Briggs loves his people to pieces once he is comfortable with them. He wants nothing more than to be in your lap and is as loyal and loving as you could ask for in a dog. And we haven’t even mentioned how smart and eager to please he is! Briggs is housebroken and crate trained and would be a wonderful candidate to learn more tricks. Briggs will likely never be a real social, “out and about” kind of dog but he will make a great homebody to snuggle up with. Ideally Briggs would have a fenced in yard and a dog buddy to play with. He is appropriately submissive with other dogs so he gets along with pretty much everybody. Briggs is a young boy so he will want his playtime every day before snuggling up with you at the end of the day. Briggs was rescued from a rural shelter by Pawfect Match in November of 2012. He would have been adopted many times over by now if everyone could see him as we do. Wouldn’t you like to be the one who finally gives this boy his own home? Until someone takes the time to get to know him and allow for him to adjust to his new life, he will continue to wait. And a good homebody like Briggs sure deserves a home to call his own!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

At 8 weeks old they only weighed 3 pounds :( Thankfully everyone survived and mom and pups are doing well. Aura has gained weight since being rescued and is at a healthy 52 pounds! She was heartworm positive at the time of rescue but has received treatment and is a healthy girl now. Aura's a really great girl and deserves a wonderful home of her own.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Holly Springs, NC
Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Much like his namesake (Detective Holder from the television mystery show "The Killing"), Holder had a rough start in life and he's often misunderstood because of his outward appearance. However, also like Agent Holder, once you get to know this special dog you soon discover that he has a heart of gold and would do anything to make you smile. People who get to know Holder can't help but fall in love with him. Holder enjoys visitors to his temporary home, but while out and about he can be sheepish and shy. You see, meet and greet events have a lot of things going on at once, and those things can be overwhelming sometimes. Holder has come a long way in conquering his fears, but he still has some learning and developing to do. Holder can be scared of sudden movements and loud noises. Because of this, he'll need to go to a home without small children where he can be given time to settle and let his personality shine through. Holder loves his foster family dearly, including his canine foster brother and sister. He spends his days playing and his evenings snuggling. He would be an ideal companion for a family who wants a loyal friend to greet them when they come home. Holder would love to have a canine buddy to play with, and a confident canine friend also helps Holder learn new things aren't so scary. As a dog with simple tastes, Holder enjoys going for walks in his neighborhood, watching tv with his family, playing in the yard, and doing tricks for treats. Holder is a very smart boy who enjoys learning with positive reinforcement training. He says the treats feed his brain and help him think better. His foster mom says learning without the fear of punishment has allowed him to surpass her initial expectations, and that he grows more confident with each new skill he masters. Holder has graduated from the New Leash On Life prison dog training program where he tested for and passed a Canine Good Citizen evaluation upon his graduation. This means that Holder has shown he can demonstrate an assortment of basic obedience skills.

      Location: Holly Springs, NC
Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed. Happy is a sweet loving boy who has really benefitted from the obedience training he has received in his foster home. He loves to cuddle and have his head scratched but is also content to lay on his dog bed and chill out. He is fairly low energy but does like to go for walks. Happy is housebroken, does not do well in a crate, and knows basic obedience. He is great on walks and heels nicely which makes it such a pleasure to enjoy walks with him. Happy does not seem interested in cats and does great with kids of all ages. He does well with other dogs except those that are overly rowdy and in his face. Happy would make a perfect companion for a lucky family!

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Holly Springs, NC
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Joplin is one stunning girl but has some special needs so she needs a very special home. Joplin was diagnosed with EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) which means her body does not properly absorb nutrients from food. She is now on medication to help her with this issue but this will be something she will have to be on for the rest of her life in order to maintain her health and well being. As long as she continues her medication, she can live a long and healthy life just like any other dog. Her disease doesn't slow her down though and she is very active and loves other dogs! She is slow to warm up to new people and would do best in a home with adults only and someone with German Shepherd experience as she is super smart and needs a strong handler. Once she bonds to you she will be your best friend for life and loves to snuggle and be near her person at all times. She is a very driven shepherd and would excel in nose work given the opportunity. Are you the special home Joplin is looking for?

      Breed: Australian Shepherd

      Age: Young
      Location: Holly Springs, NC
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Echo is a super high energy girl that would love to have a family of her own! She is a special needs dog as she was born deaf due to the 'fabulous' breeding practices to obtain her pretty coloring. But don't let that stop you from looking at this girl, she doesn't know she's deaf! We are working on her with hand signals and she does amazing with other dogs, she lives with a houseful and goes to doggie day camp on a regular basis. She would do best in an adult only home with a minimun of a 5' securely fenced yard and would love another 4 legged companion that can keep up with her. Given her special needs, we will need to keep her adoption local so that her foster mom can be involved in her transition to her new forever home.

Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (long coat). AVAILABLE FOR SPONSORSHIP ONLY Blanca came to our program when she was about 4 1/2 months old and was going to be euthanized because she was deaf. We were contacted and took her in and she has grown into a beautiful young dog and is a doll. Unfortunately along with her deafness comes some behavioral issues that prevent her from being adopted to a home. She lives a full and happy life in her foster home and even gets to go to doggie day camp on a regular basis. Although Blanca cannot be adopted out, she will be a PMR&R dog for the rest of her life and is available for sponsorship. Please consider donating on behalf of Blanca's care.

      Location: Holly Springs, NC
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat). AVAILABLE FOR SPONSORSHIP ONLY Our sweet Tasi boy had a tough life before Pawfect Match found him. He was born in the wild and had no human interaction until he was about 10 weeks old when he was caught and brought into a loving foster home. Tasi has come a long way and is very loving but has never fully recovered from being feral. He’s loves other dogs and does great with his foster mom but still wants nothing to do with any other people and can be fear reactive as a result. Due to his behavior, Tasi has become one of our santuary dogs and will live the rest of his life with his foster mom. He is available for sponsorship if you would like to help us to continue to care for this darling boy.

Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (short coat). Keeley is Irish for beautiful and that's exactly what this girl is!!! Keeley is deaf and almost completely blind, we believe she may be able to see shadows out of her left eye but we are not entirely sure. But don't pity her or think she won't make an amazing additon to your family, this girl is amazing! After being in her foster home for under 24 hours, she figured out how to climb over a baby gate, navigate a doggie door and 8 steps up and down like a champ, nothing slows this girl down! She does awesome with other dogs, is housebroken and is a total love. She would love a very own home of her own and would do best with a fenced yard and another dog to keep her company, she loves to play! Younger children and deaf dogs are not always the best mix although she has an amazing temperament, she would so best with older kids or in a home with adults only.
