    Posted Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Mixed (long coat). Melanie is a Sheltie mix and weighs 17 pounds. She is friendly, loving, calm and quiet. She would be a good apartment or townhouse dog. Melanie is well socialized, loves kids and gets along well with other dogs. No cats here, but she is such a mild mannered girl, I believe she would be good with cats also. Mel is posted as "special needs" because she was found to be positive for heartworm antibody on June 6 2017. She immediately began treatment for same with the safe and slow method of twice monthly heartworm preventive (HeartGuard). When she tests negative (usually takes a year), she will go to the once monthly dose of heartworm preventive, which every dog needs anyway. Melanie is spayed, fully vaccinated, has been treated for parasites and is on monthly flea preventive. Her adoption fee is a donation to the rescue in the amount of $450.
