    Leo

    rescue
    Breed: Jack-Rat Terrier
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Leo had a good home until his owner died, and he ended up without a home or family of his own. A neighbor took him in initally and he was passed around to a few homes, but no one had interest in keeping him. He was being crated a lot as a temporary solution until one of our SC volunteers heard about his plight and stepped up to help this sweet boy. He’s being fostered with multiple small dogs, and has done well fitting in with his new foster family. We checked in with Leo’s foster mom, Christy, for some insight on him. “Leo is very sweet and always wants to be near you. Now, I’m standing by the kitchen and he’s laying by my feet. When I work at the computer, there he is looking up at me. He’s not annoying and is very relaxed inside, but likes to be near his person, and is very affectionate. He’s doing great with my 2 dogs. One of my dogs is not easy and she has no reaction to him. He was anxious when he first arrived for a few days, we saw some pacing and barking to go out, but by day 5, he was napping on the sofa with my 2 dogs and barking less. Leo is calm inside, but always up for a walk. I walk him 2 miles in the morning with my 2 dogs and he has minimal reaction to other dogs on leash, and really seems to enjoy his outings. He’s been very friendly meeting our neighbors, and is great with all the local kids. He really seems to enjoy their company. I would describe Leo as a little shy at first, but as he settles in we are seeing more and more of his sweet, fun personality. He’s housetrained and crate-trained, but would prefer to snuggle up in bed with you. He lays in bed with us before we go to sleep and he does not want to get up. He is a sweet boy who loves to be with people and other dogs, and he’s going to be so hard to let go.” Leo will be coming to N. VA in early September. Looking for a FOSTER or ADOPTER to welcome him to town. Estimated Breed: Rat Terrier/JRT mix APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 22 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: 6.5 to 7 years COAT TYPE: short length ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/hw negative LOCATION: Coming to N. Dixie - ADOP...

    rescue
    Breed: Beagle
    Sex: Female Female
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Beagle. Dixie had an elderly owner who not able to properly care for her, and would tie her up outside for long periods of time as a puppy. This young playful pup would bark out of boredom being left alone, and one of the neighbors threatened to shoot her. Thankfully a Good Samaritan heard of Dixie's plight and stepped up to help. She contacted our SC team and now Dixie is safe and learning about life indoors. Dixie is very puppy-like, submissive and affectionate, and loves to give kisses. She loves to run and play, and really enjoys the company of other dogs, and will play with kitties too. This sweet little girl is going to make an excellent family dog or companion pup. FOSTER UPDATE - 7/27/17 Dixie is a sweet little 20 pound bundle of happiness.. she loves all people and all dogs. She has met my grandkids and does fine with them. She LOVES to play but is very calm inside. She will run crazy outside playing with the other dogs, but is fine inside. She is not intimidated by our big mastiffs, and will mix it up with them in the yard. She walks very well on a leash with a harness, and does not howl or bark much. She does howl at emergency sirens and is afraid of the TV .. she will watch it very intensely then get up and run outside if she doesn't like what she sees. She has had no potty accidents since I got her. She is also trained with a dog door and uses it well. I have not crated her, and she has gotten a few old shoes that I have around but I just correct her and she does fine. She can get into trouble if you have stuff lying around that looks interesting. She is definitely young and has puppy tendencies. She is also very affectionate and will sit with you all the time and follow you around the house. She is extremely happy to see you when you come home. She does jump on you at times and will beg at the table but we are working in that. She meets other dogs and people fine while on leash and off. I would consider her a flight risk until she settles in, so someone will have to be careful opening and closing the door as she can easily slip out. She would be a great dog for someone who wants to take heir dogs with them on adventures... she rides great in the car. Dixie will be coming to N. VA on 8/12. Apply today! Gracie May

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Bullboxer Pit
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Gracie May is a gorgeous 3 year old APBT/Boxer mix. She is house trained, crate trained and knows basic commands (sit, stay, lay down and “watch me”). She walks very nicely on leash and will sit if you pull up on her collar. While she is wary of dogs that aren’t members of her pack, she is typically indifferent to dogs that just walk by, and she gets along great with other dogs in the family. She’s currently living with her pup sibling, Jax, and they became fast friends when she joined the family. She would do well as an only dog or with another calm/balanced dog in the home. Gracie is very affectionate and is known to give big kisses to both owners and some guests. She likes outgoing people who show her lots of love. She’s an active dog who loves to play ball and go for long walks where she can sniff and roam, and does an adorable head tilt when she discovers something new that will melt your heart. She always greets her pack members with heavy doses of love and affection and will march in place wagging her tail when she is excited. Gracie will do best in a home with structure, and an owner who has some large dog experience. She can be a little possessive of furniture, so it is important to establish her place on the floor early on and to not let her “own” any chairs or couches. She is great with guests who are friendly towards her, but will mistrust people who don’t want to engage her. She would do best in a home with owners who can provide consistent leadership and exercise and who are comfortable being assertive pack leaders where Gracie knows she can relax and just be a follower. BREED ESTIMATE: Boxer/American Pit Bull Terrier mix GENDER: Feale APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 60 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: 3 to 3.5 year old COAT TYPE: medium length ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Reston, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to http://adopt.ddbnova.org and complete the application. rescue
    Breed: Poodle (Toy)-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Poodle (Toy) / Terrier / Mixed. Frankie is an 8 yo Poodle mix who was surrendered to our SC team last week with her sibling, Cooper, to get some overdue medical attention. Frankie had a large growth that needed to be removed, which turned out to be a hernia, and an ear infection. She had not been to the vet for many years, and was fortunate that none of her medical issues were serious. Her family was getting evicted and had kept adding pets to their family when they couldn’t afford to care for themselves. We were glad to get both Frankie and Cooper to safety, and avoid them being abandoned or surrendered to a local shelter. Even with the family instability that was clearly a part of her past, Frankie is sweet, social little pup who adapts quickly. She’s great with other dogs and cats, and has an ideal temperament for kids too. She’s crate trained, house trained, and seems so grateful to be in a loving stable home. Frankie has only been in her foster home a few days. Better pictures and updates to come as we get to know her. She also adores the senior cat who lives in her foster home, and loves to give the cat kisses. She is active and playful, but also a champion couch cuddler too. She is newer to leash walking but her foster mom walks her twice a day now, and she loves to sniff and explore the world around her. Daisy's foster mom, Inge, describers her personality as confident, snuggly, and very sweet. She is crate trained, and not completely potty trained yet, but making great headway. Her last family taught her to go inside on pee pads, so her foster mom is working to wean her off and go outside during her walks. She learns from the other dogs, and follows their lead. Inge says that Daisy's favorite thing is to play ball, alone, or with someone. She also loves all toys, and is very happy when company comes to visit and wants everyone to pet her.
