    Breed: Dachshund-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male

Posted Breed: Dachshund / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Stanley is one cool little dog with a fun-loving personality. He's super social with everyone he meets, and loves other dogs. He's a unique looking pup with a striking brindle coat, pointy ears, and compact stature. Stanley is a low rider and probably has some Dachshund or Basset Hound mixed in. Stanley came from a hoarding situation and was rescued with 34 other dogs. He's being fostered with multiple other dogs and does well with dogs both large and small. His foster mom says he's adapted quickly and is more confident than fearful. He finds comfort in her other dogs and loves to romp and play. He's more of a rough and tumble player, so he mixes well with the larger dogs too. Great in the crate. More to come as Stanley settles in. FOSTER UPDATE - 10/12/17 This little guy is an active, snuggly pup who is very social and loves everyone he meets. He's a striking dog and people notice him and want to pet him on our walks. He was excited when he first arrived, but calms down after a few days once he settles into a routine. He’s crate trained, has had no accidents in the house, knows sit, and is not destructive or a big barker. He's still working on his leash walking skills, and will try to chase a squirrel, but he’s a smart dog who learns quickly. He's very sweet... Gage - NO LO...

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Meet Gage. Gage was chained his entire life and criminally neglected. He was seized by Animal Control after a concerned neighbor called to complain, and that call saved his life, because our vet tells us he wouldn't have made it much longer. This poor boy was so weak when he first came in that when he wagged his tail in excitement, it made him lose his footing. Gage is a young yellow Lab, 2 to 3 years old, and currently weighs about 38lbs – he should be closer to 60lbs. He’s never been taken to a vet and is light heartworm positive, but this handsome boy will need to gain some weight and stabilize before he can start treatment or be neutered. He has some healing to do before he makes the trip to N. VA. Gage is another testament to the good nature and incredible resiliency of dogs. He’s never been shown an ounce of human kindness, but you can clearly see the warmth he has towards his rescuers. He was all tail wags and kisses at the vet’s office, excited to finally receive some attention. Maybe he knows he’s on his way to a great life. Home life is brand new to Gage and he just went into his foster home 9/25, so more to come as we learn more about this sweetheart of a dog. ***Gage still needs time to heal and get treatment before he comes to N.VA in late Oct/early Nov*** Worthy Dog Rescue takes in many chained and penned dogs like Gage who will require a significant investment in vet care. If you would like to support Gage through his recovery, and help us save more worthy dogs, you can contribute any amount at worthydog.org/donate BREED ESTIMATE: Yellow Labrador Retriever GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 38 lbs - Should be 60lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: 2 to 3 years COAT TYPE: short ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: Vetting to come - will be utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: Coming to N Va late Oct/early Nov FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to http://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Sonny

    Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet sweet Sonny. This precious pup was abandoned by his family when they moved and just left him behind in the backyard with no plans for his care. Thankfully, the owner of the vet clinic we work with took him in, and contacted WDR to help him find a loving forever home Sonny has a calm, cautious nature. He's a little timid when we first met him, but we are sure that's because he's just been through a pretty traumatic time for such a young pup. He's being fostered with other dogs, and we feel other dogs will help him settle in and build his confidence. Sonny has a good energy level, does well with potty training, and goes into a crate with no problem. He does not bark at all even when the other dogs in the home start up. He walks well on a leash, but will rub against your legs and try to stay very close to your side. He likes to feel human contact and it helps him to explore his world with a little more confidence. When he sees something unfamiliar or unknown to him, he may hide behind your legs and considers you his protector. He's a young pup and being introduced to things for the first time. We expect him to learn and adjust quickly. This pup is settling in well to his foster home. He's a little on the thin side, so his foster family is working on that and to get him more familiar with everyday life sights and sound. He has the MOST BEAUTIFUL rich brown fur and golden eyes, and is pure sweetness. This boy has a very gentle nature and is going to make some lucky person an awesome companion. FOSTER UPDATE - 10/5/17 As we approach the one week mark, I wanted to give you some updates on Sonny and the behavior we have witnessed: Sonny wants to be best friends with everyone, he loves people of all ages, and he is desperate to have some new four-legged best friends. He has absolutely no aggression towards anyone (human or animal). He is higher-energy, so he may be a little overwhelming for a smaller dog, but he fits right in with dogs of his size looking to play. I believe Sonny would do best in a home which has another dog-friendly canine, roughly around the same size/age, who enjoys lots of playtime. Sonny also knows how to sit, and give his paw. At night, he loves to snuggle and cuddle up on the bed with you, he adores physical contact of any kind. And whenever you sit, he likes to place his head in your lap. Sonny has had zero accidents, and is very good at doing his needs outside. He had a huge appetite the first few days, but it has leveled off now and is more average with other dogs we have had. He doesn't bark when you leave, or cry excessively, he only will give a warning bark when he is sitting on the patio and looking at dogs walk by. As for the crate, Sonny prefers to be out in the open as opposed to in a crate, and he's trustworthy in the home. Sonny is cautious when out in the open, he has the energy for walks, but is quick to run back to the door to be let back inside. He is good on a leash, but is extremely curious and wanders back and forth trying to smell everything and say hi to everyone. He displays no leash aggression whatsoever. If you drop the leash, he will stay by your side, he is not a bolt and run type of dog. We take him on long walks, and have also taken him running with us. He doesn't seem to understand this concept much yet. His ideal outdoor interaction is being in a dog park and running around with other dogs his size, or playing fetch with a tennis ball. Sonny adores his new stuffed animals, loves playing with tennis balls, and loves chew toys. We have all his things in a pile, and there is nothing he enjoys more than grabbing his toys and bringing them around the house. Sonny is extremely curious, so that curiosity leads him to opening anything he can find. For example, he will unzip a bookbag, remove all the contents and lay them out on the bed to observe them. He's not much of a chewer, but he loves to explore and see what everything is. Sony loves sleeping, and going to the dog park. He's now been four days in a row, and he is so gentle with dogs of all sizes, he doesn't nip or play fight, he just wants to smell everyone and run with them. Overall, we love Sonny. He is a great dog, very well behaved, and an absolute angel. BREED ESTIMATE: American Staffordshire mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 55lbs (needs to gain a few pounds) APPROXIMATE AGE: 1 year COAT TYPE: short ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped/hw negative LOCATION: Falls Church, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to http://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Meet Jake. Jake was chained his entire life and criminally neglected. He was seized by Animal Control with another dog, Gage, after a concerned neighbor called to complain. That call saved their lives as they were both very thin and weak when they came into the rescue. This handsome boy is a Boxer mix around 2 years, and currently weighs about 35lbs – he should be closer to 45 or 50lbs. He’s never been taken to a vet, and is very underweight, but thankfully he’s mostly healthy and starting settling quickly into his foster home. Jake’s foster mom says that the first few days his legs would tremble when she came near him, but now she describes him as a happy dog who loves to snuggle, and says his butt never stops wiggling. He has love, food, and attention and wants all of the above, and will sometimes bark to get it…She’s working on that. Jake is another testament to the good nature and incredible resiliency of dogs. He’s never been shown an ounce of human kindness, but he’s quickly bonded to his foster family and is flourishing in his new life FOSTER UPDATE - 10/10/17 Jake is making progress by leaps and bounds! He is gaining weight and turning a pretty fawn like color. He has this crooked little under-bite that makes him absolutely adorable! He does well with my dogs, and has found his place. He does well with my smaller dog Leo and my larger dog Shiner. Have not assessed him with cats yet. He is energetic dog, but can be just as happy laying in your lap watching the cars go by which is what we do many evenings. He is so affectionate and loves giving kisses. He walks well on a leash, and is friendly, but also anxious to greet anyone that may have a treat or some love to share, he doesn't lunge or bark or overly react. I am working on the jumping and he is responding well. He is the biggest SNUGGLE BUG in town. He loves to get in your lap and is quite content there for as long as you want to pet him! He loves all people and now that he's settled in and has started to trust he will be fed and loved, his barking has stopped and he's getting acclimated to being part of a family. Breed: Border Terrier-Unknown Mix

Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Chinese Crested-Powder Puff / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Dudley! This adorable little guy was found on a busy four-lane road. The woman who found him posted him on an online community classified page to help find his owner, but no one responded. When one of our volunteers saw the post, she could tell Dudley needed some medical treatment and reached out to the family to see if she could help. We’re thankful this kind woman took him in, who said she wanted her children to learn from this example and to know to always do the right thing. Dudley is now in his foster home in SC and getting the medical care he needs. He had both skin and ear infections, and tested positive for demodex, which is easily treatable. He’s getting weekly medicated baths and is on antibiotics and steroids to help his skin for the next few weeks, and is already feeling and looking so much better! We think he’s a mix of a scruffy or wiry Terrier and Chinese Crested, so he has very little hair on his belly, and his wiry coat should be a good match for families looking for a more allergy-friendly dog. We checked in with Dudley’s foster mom, Sonya, for an update: “Dudley is perfect. He's housebroken, crate trained, and well mannered. I have yet to even hear him bark. He has no conflicts with my other dogs or cats, he just peacefully cohabitates with them. He’s great with taking his meds and loves his baths too, the only time I have any issues with him is when I have to apply his ear meds. His ears have been so bad for so long, he gets very scared and anxious. His ears are healing nicely, but he was in pain for a long time so he still has fear around them being touch. He really is a perfect gentleman. Walks well on his leash. Gets along with every dog and person he has met. He's quiet and cuddly. His activity level is low to medium, and he just wants to be loved.” Dudley will be coming to N. VA on 10/21. Apply today to learn more about him.
