    Breed: Chihuahua
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Meet Tinkerbell. This sweet little lady is dream chi. She doesn't have the temperament of a typical chihuhua and gets along with both dogs and cats. She is currently living in SC and gets along with the other dogs in the house. Tinkerbell has been nicknamed the "engergizer bunny" in her foster home because she has one speed and that's "full". She is an active, playful little dog. She was found wandering alone in a rural area of SC by a good Samaritan. After trying to locate her owner to no avail, Tinkerbell found herself living in a rescue with many other dogs and cats. We will be bringing Tinkerbell to town on December 17 and she'll be ready for her new home and family at that time. While she awaits for a family to fall in love with her great personality, she is undergoing treatment for heartworm. Once fully treated, she'll just need to remain on a monthly heartworm preventative. If you are interested in adding a nice little dog to your family, please consider Tinkerbell. She would love to live with you. Please apply today. BREED ESTIMATE: Chihuahua mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: ~4 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~2 years COAT TYPE: short length ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/undergoing heartworm treatment LOCATION: foster home in rural SC, coming to NoVa on December 17 FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to http://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. Sam - ADOPTI...

    rescue
    Breed: Chihuahua
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Introducing Sam! Sam is a very social, confident Chihuahua who is going to thrive in a loving home environment. Sam was rescued by a retired police officer, Dusty, who saw he was not being treated well and cared enough to help him. Dusty helped his family realize they had too many dogs to care for, and he needed more time and attention than they could give. Sam is now being fostered with 4 other small dogs and a cat. He's fine with all the dogs and is used to being around many dogs of all sizes, and ignores the cats. Sam enjoys the outdoors and loves sniffing and hanging out in the yard. He's crate-trained, housetrained, and not a barker. He likes to snuggle on the couch or bed, and will burrow under the blankets and peep out with those big brown eyes. FOSTER UPDATE 10/26/17 Sam is the easiest foster ever!! He's super chill and hasn't displayed any weird or problematic behaviors -- well, other than licking pillows. He is 100% house-trained (just one little piddle on the very first day), walks nicely on the leash (tho, he does love to lag behind and sniff everything), sleeps well either in our bed or a dog bed (doesn't seem to have a preference). We've been giving him soft food, since he just had a dental and was swallowing the kibble without chewing. He has played a little bit with some soft toys. He's not super responsive to his name, though. We've tried Sammy, and that doesn't seem to get his attention either. He's not hard of hearing and responds to whistles and kiss-kiss noises. He doesn't seem to be treat motivated, maybe because his mouth is still a little sore. He does seem to be affection/attention motivated, though. He'll come for scratches. I've heard him bark once, when Cookie and Stella were going nuts about my brother being at the door, but other than that, he's low key. What a sweet boy! Apply today to make Sam a part of your family. BREED ESTIMATE: Chihuahua GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 9.5 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: 6 to 7 years COAT TYPE: short length ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/hw negative/recent dental LOCATION: Reston, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to http://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Casey - ADOP...

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Meet Casey. This young handsome Lab mix is ready for bigger and better things in life. He was recently surrendered to the rescue with his brother, Jackson, because their family had too many dogs and couldn’t properly care for them all. Both pups are experiencing life outside of a trailer for the first time, and everything is new to them. They are still timid around new things, but are young and will grow more confident each day in their foster homes. Casey adapted quickly to his SC foster home, and found a playmate with the young dog who lives there. His foster mom, Hailey, felt Casey would do well in most situations. He lived with toddlers in his former home, and is great with her dog. He enjoys exploring on leash, and this is the first time in life Casey has ever been walked. He’s crate trained and has had no accidents in his crate. He had one accident in the home the first day, but was still settling in. He’s very calm when he’s by himself, but when he's around other dogs, he perks up and loves to play. He’s currently about 45lbs, but is thin and could stand to gain a few pounds. FOSTER UPDATE - 8/24/17 Casey is being fostered in a condo and has really improved on leash walking and adjusting to the sites and sounds of N. VA. His foster dad, Greg, offers this update.... "Personality wise Casey is really a dream for any owner. Last weekend he stayed with our parents who have a fenced yard, so it was his first chance to play fetch freely and he loved it. Casey is a very affectionate dog, and his go to move is laying down belly-up and trying to get someone to rub him, which is hard to resist. He loves to snuggle and still has some puppy in him. Sometimes he needs to be corrected and confuses it for play, but he definitely does learn from his mistakes. He's been doing great on house training with no accidents, and he has been much more communicative with letting us know when he needs to go outside. The last couple of nights we have actually let him sleep on the bed with us and he has seemed more than comfortable; he also sounds more than comfortable, but is a pretty adorable snorer. As far as interactions with other dogs, he likes other calm dogs. He does not appreciate yippy or aggressive dogs, which includes aggressively nice. When he has a chance to approach and calmly interact with another dog he seems to be fine, but he always seems to be the calmer of the two. It is very rare that he will pull toward another dog when on leash. Normally he might pause briefly to give them a look, but usually continues on trotting in the direction we were going afterwards. We can see the puppy in Casey, and he's a very athletic dog who can scale a 5ft fence and needs to be trained on leash. He's also very calm inside and seems really is mature for being so young. He becomes more outgoing every day as he settles in and feels comfortable." This sweet boy has settled in nicely to city life now and is ready to find his forever home. Apply today. FOSTER UPDATE - 10/17/17 Casey continues to do well in his foster home and continues to improve his leash walking skills. The few occasions when he reacts (barks) on leash towards strangers is when they are carrying something like a bat or walking stick, or it's late at night and he can't see them well. It's more of an alert, and he's easily calmed down and redirected. Casey is being fostered in an urban, high traffic area, and has done well adjusting to the sights and sounds of urban life. Casey's foster mom, Nicole, has started running with Casey and he absolutely loves it. He's perfect for someone who is active, he runs right beside you and doesn't pull on you. And he is very adorable when he is all tuckered out. He still calm and snuggly indoors but enjoys his daily exercise. He recently accompanied his foster family on a camping trip and did great hanging out and on hikes. The car ride was a little tough on him though. Casey is anxious in car and does get car sick. It's still new to him, and something that will need to be introduced slowly and over time. There are anti nausea medicines that can be used for longer trips, but small doses of repeated exposure and making it a positive experience should help him adjust. Casey is such a sweet loving dog, and will make someone a great companion or family dog. This young handsome Lab mix is ready to go home. BREED ESTIMATE: Labrador Retriever mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 45lbs (needs to gain a few pounds) APPROXIMATE AGE: 1 year COAT TYPE: short ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped/hw negative LOCATION: Alexandria, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to http://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Evan's owner recently surrendered him in the hopes that he'd be able to find a better home than he could provide to him. His owner used to breed hunting dogs and decided that as he had gotten older, it makes sense to discontinue the practice. Evan has been raised around other dogs and cats. He's interacted with children while at his home too. It's been reported by the shelter that he's a friendly gent. Evan has sadly never lived in a home as he was raised as an "outdoor" dog, as many hunting dogs are. Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Omar, This gorgeous guy is currently living in a high intake shelter in rural SC. Sadly, there are more homeless dogs than there are potential adopters in his area. Luckily, Worthy Dog saw his photo and decided to rescue this guy to enable him to come to the DC area where he can have a better chance at a forever home. Omar is described as a friendly guy who enjoys the simple things in life. He loves going for walks and meeting other dogs. He attended an adoption event in his local area and it was reported that he was friendly with the kids too. Folks at the shelter describe Omar as friendly and social, and say he enjoys the little things in life. He loves spending time with people. One volunteer said this about him: “Omar was my buddy for part of the day at a festival and he was a delightful guy. He was a magnet for the little people and he enjoyed the interaction. He was polite and did well interacting with the other doggies. He enjoyed lap time and loved being petted, and getting treats. He made a habit of helping himself to the treat bag!” Omar has been successfully treated for heartworm and will coming to N. VA after the holiday. Freya

    rescue
    Breed: Siberian Husky
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). This gorgeous Siberian Husky pup was dumped on the side of the road earlier this week. A man in a pick up truck pulled over on main road, opened his truck bed, let Freya out and took off. Thankfully, the Manager of the store across the street saw it happen, secured Freya, and called a member of our team for help. Freya is now at our vet partner in SC, and will be going into a foster home until she makes the trip to N. Va on 12/2. Freya is a young, sweet social girl who is good with other dogs and very friendly with the vet staff, even during her exam and required shots. She's only about 2 years old and was underweight when rescued, but we expect her to be a normal, active young husky who needs her daily walks and exercise. FOSTER UPDATE - 11/25/17 Freya has been in 2 fosters homes, so we've had the chance to see her in different environments. She was fostered with 2 large dogs, and was a great playmate for her dog buddies in the home, but we discovered that Freya does have a food guarding issue, and is being fed separately in her crate away from the other dogs, and bones and treats should be given separately until she settles in and has time to build rapport with her pack. She is not aggressive to humans around food, and her foster mom could pet her while she eats, but if another dog comes near her crate, she will get defensive, start growling, and protect her food. This is a behavior we see in some dogs who have been starved, and she was very thin when she was rescued. This could improve once she has some stability and time to settle in and trust, and training will help too, but she needs to be separated from other dogs in the home when food is involved. With people, Freya is friendly and engaging. She was around multiple grand kids at Thanksgiving, ages 4 to 10 years old, and had a few nibbles and jumped once when excited, but was very correctable and appears to be comfortable around kids. She is also very snuggly with her foster dad, and in general she's very affectionate and engaging with people. FOSTER UPDATE - 12/2/17 Freya has arrived and is being fostered currently as an only dog. More to come on her as she settles in. BREED ESTIMATE: Siberian Husky mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 48 - 50lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: 1 - 2 years COAT TYPE: short ADOPTION FEE: $350 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped/hw negative LOCATION: Reston, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to http://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Gracie May

    Breed: Boxer-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Gracie May is a gorgeous Boxer mix who is very affectionate and always greets her pack members with heavy doses of love, enthusiasm, and wiggle butt. She’s an active dog who loves to play ball and go for long walks where she can sniff and roam, and does an adorable head tilt when she discovers something new that will melt your heart. She is house trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands (sit, stay, lay down and “watch me”). She walks very nicely on leash and will sit if you pull up on her collar. While she is wary of dogs that aren’t members of her pack, she is typically indifferent to dogs that just walk by, and gets along great with other dog in her home. She’s currently living with her pup sibling, Jax, and they became fast friends when she joined the family. She would do well as an only dog, or with another calm/balanced dog in the home. Gracie will do best in a home with structure, and an owner who has some large dog experience. She can be a little possessive of furniture, so it is important to establish her place on the floor early on and to not let her “own” any chairs or couches. She is great with guests who are friendly towards her, but will mistrust people who don’t want to engage her. She would do best in a home with owners who can provide consistent leadership and exercise, and who are comfortable being assertive pack leaders so that Gracie knows she can relax and just be a follower. FOSTER UPDATE - 12/6/17 Gracie has been working hard on her training, and her foster parents report that she is excellent on a leash now. She completely ignores other dogs on walks even when they are barking and being aggressive towards her. She's also improved greeting visitors in the home, and is responding well to boundaries.
