    rescue
    Breed: Basset Hound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Basset Hound. Adoption Fee: $100. Rodeo is a very happy boy. He loves attention and gets so excited when his people come home, even if you only went out to get the mail. He likes to ride in the car and go for walks, though he can't walk very far. Rodeo has a bad hip & knee so short walks are in order with no steps or steep inclines. U-turns and backing-up are not his best tricks. However, you don't have to worry about him getting on the furniture! He loves his dog beds, and will let you rub his belly all you want. He does well with cats, other dogs and kids. He is such a loving sweet guy who deserves a furever family that will love him.

    Breed: Cocker Spaniel
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel (medium coat). Hi, I’m Cassie, a black female cocker spaniel born around 7/29/14. My owner turned me into a shelter in Baton Rouge due to her health issues, and thankfully the nice people at GCCSR had a foster spot open for me. I’ve been in foster care since July 2017 and my foster mom describes me as a sweet, silly little girl! Silly? Maybe that’s because I literally throw myself at my person’s feet! Whether in front of you or in back of you, I like to throw myself down, on my back and hope for some belly rubs! I love to be near you and will even steal your pillow in bed. I sort of am a bed hog, stealing most of the bed, and a hoarder, too. I hoard toys and love to play with a favorite one on the back of the couch. I’ll even steal toys right out of my foster siblings’ mouths. My routine lately has been to take a toy outside first thing in the morning, leave it there, and bring another toy back into the house. So, I guess I am a silly little girl for sure! Lovable, too! Velcro cocker here, and I prefer to spend time with my humans; though, I do get along well with other dogs, too as long as they don't mind me taking their toys! I’m housebroken; although, I have had a few accidents likely from being in a new place. I let you know when I need to go out by standing by the door, or by the doggie door in my current foster home. I am shaved down at the moment but was so well-behaved when my face needed a trim. I love, love, love food and treats so much that you may want to watch your fingers when handing me something yummy because I’ll grab it like I’ve never eaten before! Because of this, I would do best in a home with no kids or with children over the age of 7 -8 years old. I'm spayed, heartworm negative and up to date on all my vaccinations. I do have the beginning stages of cataracts, so whoever adopts me will need to take me to the eye doctor occasionally for that. Sometimes there are drops that can help slow the progression, sometimes juvenile cataracts will reabsorb, and sometimes dogs are candidates for cataract surgery. Unfortunately, there is no ophthalmologist here in Lake Charles where I'm being fostered, so we don't have the answers to all those questions with respect to my specific condition. That's all I can think of for now to tell you about me... so now all I need is my very own family to love me for the rest of my life. Is that you?

Posted Breed: Basset Hound / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 175.00. This little guy has short legs to go with his chubby body. He is a riot and LOVES his belly rubbed! As he gets older some brown is coming through on his coat. He had two all brown brothers so its interesting to see. We are working on walking on leash and a few tricks. He's crate trained. Still working on the potty training. My personality: I am crate trained, love to chase anything that you throw, balls, old shoes, stuffed animals, etc., I do a little digging but not around the fence, I’ve made a few small holes in the yard, my foster says it’s not that bad; I’m good with people but because I am very high energy and do jump on people (which my foster is helping me learn not to do) I might be best in a home that does not have young kids. I’m not aggressive or try to hurt them but because I don’t know my own strength and like to jump I might knock them down. I am very playful and attention motivated. I am learning to walk on a leash, I am doing a lot better. I am a bit hyper and when I get worked up I might nip a little (again I am working on not doing this). I think I should be a lap dog and sometimes surprise my fosters when I jump on their lap. The kids that I live with don’t always like me jumping in their lap without being asked. Again, another trait I am trying to learn not to do. I do LOVE belly rubs, they are my favorite. I sleep in the crate at night but my fosters were told I do sleep well in the bed. I think in my new home I need to start off in the crate at night and then work to being able to sleep in a bed. All the newness gets me excited and don’t know exactly what I need to do at night if not crated at first. My biggest flaw is that I have a high herding drive, per my last foster. I have been known to knock people over trying to herd them. I haven’t done that at my current foster but have run full force towards them. When they tell me “NO” I do a slight turn and not run into them. I am still working on this. I think the right family for me would be one with patience and willing to continue working with me to learn the right way to act. I’ve been doing good but still need some work. I can’t wait to get into my furever home and find a family that will truly love me and let me love them the way I know I can. The adoption fee includes vet check, vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 175.00. Hi my name is Jelli - I'm a really really sweet dog, independent yet affectionate and love to cuddle with my humans. I love to play with other dogs, fetch ball, follow the dogs or people around. Not sure how I would react to cats yet. Need a home that's properly and securely fenced. I don't jump on people. Love to go for walks. I'm 3 yrs old, up to date on shots, dewormed, very social with all dogs, I'm not aggressive and more of submissive type. I Sleep excellent thru the night on my bed next to my foster's mom, in kid's bed or in my crate. I am crate trained and stay in a crate at night or when my foster family leaves. My previous foster said I don't like crates and can get out but when I am crated I am in the same room as my other dog friends and am ok being in the crate either at night or when my foster family is gone . I'm potty trained. I'm looking for a serious, loving , and committed family that will love me forever. Will you be that one? Please contact app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. Brie and Pup...

    Breed: Golden Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Golden Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Brie and her 8 babies need a temporary FOSTER HOME!!! We rescued them from the shelter and they are in boarding which is better than being euthanized, but very very stressful for a new momma and 8 itty bitty newborns! It’s loud and Brie is on edge watching over her babies. She’s an amazing momma, so gentle and sweet. Please please consider fostering until they can be weened. It’s only a short amount of time, but would do wonders for Brie and her babies. All you need is a plastic kiddy pool, some puppy pads, food, a safe place and love! We can provide the food, pool and puppy pads. Please contact us right away at info@scoutshonor.org or www.scoutshonor.org.

    Peppa

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). We recently rescued sweet Peppa from HCAC. She had been at the shelter for a week when we learned about her and got her out of there right away. She had suffered some kind of trauma causing her to be paralyzed from the waist down. After spending a few nights at our ER vet, VERGI, we took her to Texas A&M to the vet school. Her CT scan showed fractures at L6 and L7. Unfortunately, she has a serious urinary tract infection and her bladder was expanded more than capacity because she sat at the shelter for a week without anyone eliminating her bladder. Good/bad news- because of the length of the time since her injury, which they estimate to be a 1 1/2 weeks or so, surgery is not her best option because she's already healing. Instead, medical management is t he way to go. That means she will be kept on strict kennel rest and pain meds for 4-6 weeks. If she is going to gain mobility, we should see it within this time. And if she does, they feel like she should also gain her bladder function. Ideal situation!! So, we made a decision to keep her at Texas A&M at least for 2 weeks for them to monitor her, do light rehab (since they want her to keep pretty still), and eliminate her bladder multiple times a day. She's now back in Houston and we deperately need a foster home for her! She cannot go to boarding!! IIn about 3 weeks we will assess getting her into a wheelchair. She's so sweet and very determined. She loves being around other dogs too! If you are interested in adopting this beautiful girl, please contact us right away at info@scoutshonor.org.
