Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). Bandit 5 years old American Bulldog Male Good with Dogs Good with older kids No cats Hi there friends! Bandit here. Now that all of you are familiar with my adorable mug, I think it’s time I tell you my story. I am a 5 year old American Bulldog male. I came to Power of the Paw in June when my health began declining quickly at Spokane Humane Society. I had been in the shelter since April, and because of how thin I was, I was never able to go up for adoption during my time there. When I arrived I was grossly underweight and my previous owner assured the staff that they had always fed me plenty and didn’t know why I wasn’t keeping any weight on. As soon as I settled in, the shelter staff set about figuring out why I wasn’t the weight I should be and they began feeding me prescription food for gastrointestinal health, adding probiotics and anti diarrheals to my daily regiment, and did blood tests to see if everything was in range. Despite their efforts, I was continuing to worsen. My ribs became obvious and my hips protruded. The final straw was when the remaining muscle mass on my head faded and left me looking like a walking ghost. I had nothing left to give and I was unsteady on my feet. The shelter staff lead me to the clinic with sorrow in their hearts and the vet team agreed they’d try one last ditch effort and put me under anesthesia to explore my abdominal cavity. We all agreed that if they found no obvious answers, they would let me cross the bridge in peace. At this moment, the shelter manager made a call to a member of the Pawsee with a glimmer of hope that I might be able to leave the shelter and get the testing and diagnostics I needed to find the root cause of my medical issues. Everything changed when Power of the Paw said yes. Moments before I went under the knife, the news came through that I could leave the shelter and that I’d be able to go straight to Lake City Pet Hospital which had the ability to do more precise testing and xrays. As soon as I arrived, I underwent a dying process that over the next few hours would allow the staff at the clinic to visualize my intestinal tract and see if there were any obvious blockages. The dye passed through my system but it became clear that there were abnormalities. After two days of stabilization, I underwent surgery and there was a series of abnormalities that no one saw coming. I had an enlarged kidney, a discolored spleen and some of my intestinal tissue had adhered to my spinal column. The crux of the issue was dissolving sutures in my intestinal walls that had reacted abnormally to my body and caused lesions across my intestines. As a result, I couldn’t pass much of anything through my body normally and I wasn’t absorbing nutrients properly. Biopsies were taken of all my abnormal tissues and sent to the lab to determine if there were any other concerns. Lucky for us all, my biopsies all came back negative. My bloodwork came back and revealed that I had severe chronic pancreatitis. A treatment plan was devised which included careful observation and feeding of a diet that fit the needs of my pancreatitis and off I went. I have been gaining weight pound by pound every week and I am now well on my way to my ideal body weight. My foster parents report that I’m now a wild man and I’m living it up like the healthy guy that I have become. I have been doing great with all of the people that I have met and I have fun with most dogs too. It is important for me to be with balanced dogs because I am still sorting out what is and isn’t appropriate. As with all bully breeds, I like to test out the boundaries in my pack to see where I fall and who the leader is. Most people who have bully breed experience will understand this, but I’m willing to be a part of a family that is new to dog ownership too. One requirement of my adoption will be at least one session with an approved trainer so that my new family will be off on the right foot when it comes to understanding me and how to help me be a wonderful family member. I have to tell you that I think kitties make great snacks, so I will not be suitable for a home with cats. I am a sharp dog and I am fully house trained and I also do just fine in my crate as I stay there at night and take comfort in my time there. My favorite hobbies include dinner time and chasing tennis balls. I could fetch for hours and when I have a tennis ball in my mouth, you might not even be able to tell because my jowls will hide the whole thing! After all I have been through and how long I have spent being homeless, I am more than ready to move on and finally have a family of my own, and my health, just the way any dog deserves. If you think that you are the perfect family for me, please do apply at www.powerofthepaw.org. Thank you so much for reading my story and offering your continued support to Power of the Paw so that more dogs like me can finally have the happy ending they deserve. I am forever grateful. ADOPTION FEE: $200, Includes neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchip, and clean bill of health.

    Chrissy

    Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 50. FOSTER LOCATION: Twin Falls, ID Chrissy is a 2 year old 30lb mix (shepherd + lab + something smaller?) who came to Fuzzy Pawz Rescue from a local shelter. Chrissy originally came to Idaho from Texas with a case of heartworm; a bottle cap in her stomach and a healthy fear of humans. Treatment for the heartworm; surgery to remove the bottle cap and a lot of time/love/patience and Chrissy is ready to find her forever home. Sadly Chrissy is still very unsure of people; but we know that her staying in foster care is not going to help her grow and she needs a family of her own that will help with that. She has made decent progress in her foster home but will still routinely seek the safety of a corner behind furniture or inside her crate when she gets overwhelmed. This little girl has a huge heart that is just waiting for the right person to unlock it. Chrissy must go to a home with a confident, friendly dog. In her foster home, she closely watches the resident dog for guidance. If the foster mom is petting the resident dog, Chrissy will come close for affection. If the resident dog takes a treat, then Chrissy will as well. She does well on hikes and enjoys her walks; she will run if she sees the leash but will soon stop and sit to be leashed. She is calm and relaxed out in the yard so a yard with at least a 6’ fence is a must for her. She is housetrained and crate-trained; she is trustworthy to be left loose in the home when her people leave. Her adopter must be extremely calm and patient, willing to give Chrissy space and time to trust. She will need a family that can give her a routine and consistency in her life. Chrissy has the potential to become a loyal, loving dog but will need to find the perfect home to achieve that. We know from watching her grow while she has been with us that in the right home Chrissy will thrive. Chrissy is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $50.00. Zazu & Sarafina 1 year old bonded pair Pomchi Good with Dogs Good with Cats Good with Kids Nants ingonyama bagithi baba… Do you know the Lion King? That is where we got our names and we love them. We are Zazu and Sarafina, we are brother and sister and we were picked up roaming beyond the boundaries of the Pride Lands. Instead of being chased off by hyenas we were captured and taken to the cave, they called it something different like the pound. We stayed there for what seemed like forever until members of the Power of the Paw Pride came and broke us out. From the pound we were taken to a home of a pride member, there is a lioness here that calls herself foster mom. She isn’t furry like us at all but we are happy to have her here to care for us. There are several others mini lions just like us, she calls us dogs. They are all sizes, big and small. We enjoy the company of all except for the biggest one, she is a bit crazy and plays a bit rough for us little guys. We are really good in our crate as long as we are together. When foster mom first leaves we call out to her just to see if she will come back. Every now and then if we call loud enough she comes back and tells us to be quiet and we usually listen. When we are out of the kennel we really love to be outside. The first thing that we do is go potty, foster mom said it’s bad for us to do that inside. When inside we love to just cuddle in your lap, and really enjoy good scratch behind the ear, neck, back, butt, belly… anywhere really. We got to go to the North Idaho Fair where we loved all of the attention, especially from the kids. Oh man do we love kids!! We would love to find our forever home, do you feel like we could join your Pride? If you think you'd be a good match for us, please go to www.powerofthepaw.org to fill out an adoption application. ADOPTION FEE: $300 and includes vaccines, deworming, Microchip, Revolution, and spay/neuter.

    Tito

Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog-Labrador Retriever Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150. FOSTER LOCATION: Boise, ID Tito came to Fuzzy Pawz from Texas, where he grew up with his siblings as a bottle baby. He is a sweet and sensitive dog, and is still learning abou the world we live in. Tito is 6 months old and our best guess is that he is a Catahoula/Lab mix. He will need a quiet home, but one that will include him in lots of activities and help expand his world and experiences. He can be timid at first, both with people and new things, but he quickly warms up and will be your shadow. We’d love to see him in a home with kids over 10 that will teach him about hiking in the foothills, camping and life in the city. Tito is learning about leashes, walks, stairs, and lots of other things and making great strides daily. He wants nothing more than the people he trusts to be by his side and would prefer to be a lap dog. He may get to big for that, but we don’t think that will stop him from trying. He is still learning his manners and obedience…he is a puppy after all! A puppy class would be an awesome way for him to learn some confidence and bond with his new family. This cutie is good with dogs and cats; his new home should have another confident, easy going dog to show him the ropes and help build up his confidence. If left on his own, he may engage in unsavory behavior such as barking and digging. He is sensitive to loud noises, scolding, and other “scary” sounds – as with all of our dog’s positive training methods only for this boy; that means break out the treats, the cuddles and the praise! Tito is house trained, crate trained and rides wonderfully in the car! Tito is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $150.00. Frida

    Breed: Shih Tzu-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu / Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (long coat). Adoption Fee: 150. FOSTER LOCATION: Boise, ID Sweet little Frida was found in a wooded area lost and alone in the McCall area in the middle of August, hot, hungry and confused. When no one claimed her Fuzzy Pawz stepped in and placed her in a foster home as a shelter is no place for this lovely older girl. At around 10 years old Frida is mostly blind and deaf and her teeth were horribly rotten. Now after a dental to remove most of her teeth, some TLC and food she is ready to find her forever home. Frida adapts pretty well to a new environment; it takes her a few days of bumping into things to learn the lay of the land but once she gets to know her environment you would not even know she is sight challenged as she navigates around known obstacles very well. Stairs can be a problem and a danger for her going down, so doggie/baby gates will be a must if there are stairs. She acts as though she can see some light and perhaps some movement and nighttime is when she has the most problem in areas not well lighted. A home where things are not moved around a lot with no children would be best for her. She appears to be able to hear a little bit as her ears have perked up a few times at high pitched sounds such as the chime signal on the washer and dryer at her foster home. She is not fully house trained yet but with continued work that should not take much longer but you will need to be diligent until she is. We believe this has mostly to do with the lack of routine and her knowing her surroundings. The only time she barks is when she is ready to be released from her crate in the morning. She loves to go for walks on a leash where she has so much freedom and space to walk and you will be surprised at the brisk pace she can keep up. Her senior blood work came back clean; so she is healthy but does have a few warts on her that do not need to be removed. Frida is just the sweetest girl; she loves to sit on your lap and gives sweet little kisses. She makes a lovely little companion who is pretty easy to care for. If you are looking for a soft, gentle and loving girl than Frida would be a great fit! She will need a family that can give her a routine and consistency in her life. Frida is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $150.00. Posted Breed: Poodle (unknown type) / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed. Severely obese Eddie Male 10 Years Old Poodle/ Jack Russel Terrier Mix Good with Dogs No Cats Good with Kids Hi, my name is Eddie. I’m an old guy but I still have lots of love to give. When I was at my old home I learned that if I talked a lot I got a lot of yummy treats, mostly hamburger. Oh how I love hamburger. So as you can imagine I talked a lot. Little did I know that would put my life at risk in more than one way. I gained A LOT of weight. I should only be about 8-10 lbs but I was at almost 30. As you can imagine that is a bit much and it was hard for me to get up and move around and is very unhealthy. The same family that allowed me to get so big felt that I had become too much of a burden and brought me into the vet and have me put to sleep. They said that I barked too much and was too fat to do anything. I am so thankful that there was a lady from Power of the Paw at the vet clinic because she saved my life. The wonderful people that have been taking care of me have pointed out that I had fallen into some bad habits. They said that barking all the time shouldn’t be something that is rewarded with yummy treats, in fact it is rude to bark all the time. I am working on that and since I no longer get rewarded for it, it seems a bit pointless. I love to be outside wobbling around and sniffing everything that I can. It is crazy what a big world it is outside. There is so much to see and do. My foster mom takes me on several walks a day and I love it. I am on a strict diet and I only get my breakfast and dinner, no more hamburger. That’s ok thought because the loves, scratches and walks make up for the lack of hamburger. I much rather the attention that I get over the treats that I was getting and making me unhealthy. Oh great news! I lost 10 pounds, I still have about 10 pounds to go but with the great team at PotP behind me I’m sure I will be at an ideal weight in no time. I got to go hang out at the Kootenai County Fair and it was awesome. I got to sit in kids laps and get all kinds of loves and scratches. I would love to have a kid in my new home, they give the best belly rubs and they let me give them kisses. I got to see all kinds of people and other animals at the fair. I hung out with lots of other dogs and we all had a great time together. I wouldn’t mind a family with another dog to play with, it could help me lose the last bit of this extra weight I have. The people were amazing but I just couldn’t take my eyes off the cat. I have to admit, I was a bit obsessed with it. I am told that I probably shouldn’t live with cats because of this. If you feel that you would like to add me to your family please go to www.powerofthepaw.org to fill out an adoption application. ADOPTION FEE: Waived and includes vaccines, deworming, Microchip, Revolution, and neuter.
