Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Blind Pansy 6 Years Old Female Chiweenie Good with Dogs Good with Cats Older Kids Only Fostered in Post Falls, ID Greetings! I’m Pansy, a cute little mix of a Chihuahua and a Dachshund, often called a Chiweenie. What does this mean? It means I am a spunky little girl that likes to have some fun! Don’t let my age put you off – I’m a middle aged lady that just loves having a good time. Playing with toys is my favorite thing and I will keep you entertained with my fun antics – I really love to play in sprinklers on a hot summer day! Although I am playful, I do have a couple things you should know about me. First, I have a vision issue – I can’t see all that well and get confused in the house at first. Once I get to know my surroundings, I do great and you would never know that I am nearly blind. It doesn’t slow me down from finding my toys and knowing my way around. It must be the Dachshund in me – I have a really good nose that helps me find my way around. With this issue comes a little insecurity and so I get nervous from time to time and need reassurance. Little humans that are really small and make a lot of noise make me the most nervous. So, my ideal home will not have little humans and needs to be quiet and low key so I can concentrate on just snuggling with you on your lap or entertaining you with my toys. I must confess, I think I’m so awesome that I am the only dog you really need. Honestly. No bones about it. I will get along with other dogs – but again, like little humans, they are unpredictable and I can’t read their body language with my bad eyesight. So, I get grumpy with my fellow canine companions easily. They take up all the attention and cramp my style anyway. I’ll admit whole heartedly I am a bit of a diva and a little needy in this area. However, I am loyal to a fault and so very affectionate and loving. If you adopt me I can guarantee you will be entertained and loved to bits and bits with my cuddles. I also enjoy a daily walk and do well on the leash, so I don’t have to be a complete home body. Just take me with you wherever you go and I’ll be happy. If you need to leave me home, just put me in the crate so I feel safe. I enjoy being in it and won’t protest at all. Another bonus about me? I’m completely house trained and never have had an accident in my foster’s home. So how could you go wrong? If you think you would like to add me to your home, please go to www.powerofthepaw.org to fill out an application and be considered for adoption. ADOPTION FEE: $200 includes rabies, Bordetella, DAPP, flea treatment, deworming, spay, and microchip.

Posted Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Teddy 6 years Male Pomeranian Good with Dogs Good with Cats Good with Kids Fostered in Spokane, WA Hi there friends! My name is Teddy and I’m a sweet a loveable middle aged Pomeranian that is ready for a family of my own. I recently came to Power of the Paw when my owner became terminally ill and sought out a safe place for me to find another family to live my life with. There were many dogs in my previous home, so I won’t mind sharing my living space with other dogs. Luckily, I am outgoing and independent, so even though I didn’t have much one on one time with my previous owner, I like everyone I meet and I am always up for a good time. When I arrived, I was in desperate need of a haircut and an even more serious need for basic vet care. I was vaccinated, dewormed, chipped and neutered right away. Unfortunately, it was discovered that I also have an enlarged heart and degenerative joint disease in my back. These issues do keep me from being the guys that can hike for miles, or play fetch for hours on end, but I still live a happy and fruitful life. For the time being, I only need glucosamine and pain management when needed. In the future, I may need regular pain management and I will certainly need regular vet visits to monitor my heart and make sure that I am still fit. I am an excellent dog and I will be ok with most other dogs as long as they make sure to be gentle and fair to me since I’m a tiny dude. I’d also manage just fine sharing my house with kitties too. I am quite gregarious and I wouldn’t mind sharing my house with kids, men and women as long as everyone was gentle to me and made sure not to hurt my little back. Before coming to Power of the Paw I didn’t have any training, but I’m catching on quick. My foster mom is very dedicated to me and she takes me out very often for potty breaks. I have had very few mistakes and I am getting better all the time. As far as crate training, I don’t mind my crate one bit. I aim to please, so if you need me to spend a few in my crate, your wish is my command. If you think that you might be the right person for me, please apply at www.powerofthepaw.org. I feel so lucky to finally be on the hunt for a family of my own! Thank you so much for considering me and making adopted your first choice! ADOPTION FEE: $200 Includes rabies, DAPP, Bordetella, flea treatment, deworming, neuter, and microchip.

Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). Bandit 5 years old American Bulldog Male Good with Dogs Good with older kids No cats Hi there friends! Bandit here. Now that all of you are familiar with my adorable mug, I think it’s time I tell you my story. I am a 5 year old American Bulldog male. I came to Power of the Paw in June when my health began declining quickly at Spokane Humane Society. I had been in the shelter since April, and because of how thin I was, I was never able to go up for adoption during my time there. When I arrived I was grossly underweight and my previous owner assured the staff that they had always fed me plenty and didn’t know why I wasn’t keeping any weight on. As soon as I settled in, the shelter staff set about figuring out why I wasn’t the weight I should be and they began feeding me prescription food for gastrointestinal health, adding probiotics and anti diarrheals to my daily regiment, and did blood tests to see if everything was in range. Despite their efforts, I was continuing to worsen. My ribs became obvious and my hips protruded. The final straw was when the remaining muscle mass on my head faded and left me looking like a walking ghost. I had nothing left to give and I was unsteady on my feet. The shelter staff lead me to the clinic with sorrow in their hearts and the vet team agreed they’d try one last ditch effort and put me under anesthesia to explore my abdominal cavity. We all agreed that if they found no obvious answers, they would let me cross the bridge in peace. At this moment, the shelter manager made a call to a member of the Pawsee with a glimmer of hope that I might be able to leave the shelter and get the testing and diagnostics I needed to find the root cause of my medical issues. Everything changed when Power of the Paw said yes. Moments before I went under the knife, the news came through that I could leave the shelter and that I’d be able to go straight to Lake City Pet Hospital which had the ability to do more precise testing and xrays. As soon as I arrived, I underwent a dying process that over the next few hours would allow the staff at the clinic to visualize my intestinal tract and see if there were any obvious blockages. The dye passed through my system but it became clear that there were abnormalities. After two days of stabilization, I underwent surgery and there was a series of abnormalities that no one saw coming. I had an enlarged kidney, a discolored spleen and some of my intestinal tissue had adhered to my spinal column. The crux of the issue was dissolving sutures in my intestinal walls that had reacted abnormally to my body and caused lesions across my intestines. As a result, I couldn’t pass much of anything through my body normally and I wasn’t absorbing nutrients properly. Biopsies were taken of all my abnormal tissues and sent to the lab to determine if there were any other concerns. Lucky for us all, my biopsies all came back negative. My bloodwork came back and revealed that I had severe chronic pancreatitis. A treatment plan was devised which included careful observation and feeding of a diet that fit the needs of my pancreatitis and off I went. I have been gaining weight pound by pound every week and I am now well on my way to my ideal body weight. My foster parents report that I’m now a wild man and I’m living it up like the healthy guy that I have become. I have been doing great with all of the people that I have met and I have fun with most dogs too. It is important for me to be with balanced dogs because I am still sorting out what is and isn’t appropriate. As with all bully breeds, I like to test out the boundaries in my pack to see where I fall and who the leader is. Most people who have bully breed experience will understand this, but I’m willing to be a part of a family that is new to dog ownership too. One requirement of my adoption will be at least one session with an approved trainer so that my new family will be off on the right foot when it comes to understanding me and how to help me be a wonderful family member. I have to tell you that I think kitties make great snacks, so I will not be suitable for a home with cats. I am a sharp dog and I am fully house trained and I also do just fine in my crate as I stay there at night and take comfort in my time there. My favorite hobbies include dinner time and chasing tennis balls. I could fetch for hours and when I have a tennis ball in my mouth, you might not even be able to tell because my jowls will hide the whole thing! After all I have been through and how long I have spent being homeless, I am more than ready to move on and finally have a family of my own, and my health, just the way any dog deserves. If you think that you are the perfect family for me, please do apply at www.powerofthepaw.org. Thank you so much for reading my story and offering your continued support to Power of the Paw so that more dogs like me can finally have the happy ending they deserve. I am forever grateful. ADOPTION FEE: $200, Includes neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchip, and clean bill of health.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 75. FOSTER LOCATION: Kuna, ID Sweet gentle Clara has been a joy to have in the Fuzzy Pawz Rescue foster program while she recovered from heart worm. But now that she is fit and healthy she yearns for a family to call her own. At only 8 years old this girl has acquired a long lifetime of experience; having traveled all the way from Texas to find that perfect Idaho family to share her grace with. Gentle, quiet, calm, submissive gal is the easiest way to describe her; soft and loving should be thrown in for good measure. There really isn’t a bad thing to say about this absolutely lovely girl other than she can be a bit reserved with new people. Clara is great with other dogs and even likes cats. She would do best in a home with another happy, easy going dog for her to pal around with. She walks well on a leash (you have to encourage her) and takes treats gently. She loves to follows her foster humans around to watch what they are doing and sacks out on the couch for naps. She actually smiles and clicks her teeth together when she gets excited - mostly food related. And if you aren’t moving fast enough to get her fed at dinner time she will let you know by giving you a slight nip on the ankle (all in good fun of course). She is good with small children but if they are running she will chase him and will nip at heals. So no kids under 10 please. Clara is spayed, current on shots, has a microchip and has tested negative for heart worm Pip’s adoption fee is $75 Clara would love to join your family; she’ll follow you to the ends of the earth. Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sully 7 Years Old Male Rat Terrier Mix Good with Dogs Good with Dog Savvy Cats Older Kids Only Fostered in Spokane, WA Greetings, I am Sully, and I cannot wait to meet you! I am a stray from the Post Falls area that was unclaimed and Power of the Paw kindly took me in when no one else would. I wish I could tell you about my previous life – but all I can say is that I can be a bossy fellow (it’s in the nature of my breed I’m told) and so I need someone in my life who is willing to show me that I don’t have to be so bossy. You see, when I get insecure or unsure of myself I can growl and tell folks I’m grumpy, but I need someone to call my bluff and show me the ropes. I am learning how to be more relaxed and I like that my foster parents are giving me clear boundaries; it helps me feel more secure. I tried the growling thing on my foster parents and they have shown me they are more tenacious and bossy than I am and so I’ve gotten better at that. Since I am learning to trust them they have shown me all kinds of cool and awesome things I am free to do here. I love to fetch sticks and play with toys out in the yard. I also love to cuddle in your lap or on a bed near you. I love the walks I get and the play time we have the most. The exercise helps me to mind their rules and I just love the ability to go on some adventures around the neighborhood. I’m learning to behave on leash and I am doing well with my leash training. I will begrudgingly share you with other dogs, as I would prefer to have all of your attention. My foster mom and dad have a dog and I have learned that I have to behave around her. However, after a peculiar visit to the vet where I had a procedure done that foster mom called a “neuter” I am much happier to listen. I also don’t have this great desire to chase her anymore, again, peculiar, but it is helping me be more even tempered. They also have a cat; he is pretty savvy around dogs like me, so I do okay with him as long as he doesn’t bother me. But I also had to learn to leave him alone at first and so if you have one of those kinds of pets I will need guidance in this area. Other things I do well: the crate – I didn’t like it at first, but now understand it’s a safe place to be and don’t mind sleeping there or hanging out there while foster mom and dad are at work; potty training – I had a couple of accidents at first, but I now do all my business outside and again that peculiar procedure helped me in this area; commands - I'm great at sit, down, shake, and leave it! The last one comes in handy when you need to tell me to leave a stick behind. I LOVE my sticks and try to find one to haul around. Overall, I am a great, goofy little guy that had a rough start in life that created some bad habits. But now I am in a really good place and I’m learning life is really fun with boundaries. Are you willing to continue my training to becoming the best companion I can be? If so, please go to www.powerofthepaw.org to fill out an application for adoption. ADOPTION FEE: $200 includes rabies, Bordetella, DAPP, flea treatment, deworming, and microchip.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Xena Lab/Pit Mix 10 months Female Good with Dogs Good with Kids No Cats Hello there everyone! My name is Xena and I am a sweet and shy lab and pit mix lady that is just trying to find my way in the world. I recently came to Power of the Paw through a series of unfortunate circumstances that left me in a position where my owner intended to put me to sleep. One of the volunteers in the Pawsee heard of my plight and upon meeting me, knew that I had a beautiful life ahead of me full of love and adventure if I could just have a shot at a new family of my own, and Power of the Paw said yes. I met with their trainer right away so that she could evaluate my behavior, and I was a peach for my whole assessment. Thus far, I enjoy children and women and I meet them with a wagging tail and smiling face. I also warm up to men, but it takes me a bit of time. Whether it was a lack of socialization, or abuse in my past, I was treated inappropriately and now I will need to learn again that men are good too. For the time being, they make me feel very insecure and afraid. On my first night at my foster home, I thought my foster dad really sucked, but he took the time to sit with me on the floor and he fed me pieces of cheese and cookies and I figured out that he wasn’t a bad guy at all. In only a few short days, I decided that I can let my foster dad walk me, feed me, touch my head, feet and tail, and also carry me. Now that I have bonded with him, I am learning that it’s actually not that hard to trust other men and I have met quite a few men that I like to be petted by and spend time with. Before coming to POTP, I didn’t get to spend much time inside, and it took me a few days to understand that I needed to wait to go outside in order to go to the bathroom, but it clicked all at once, and I haven’t had any mistakes since. I spend a lot of time in my crate, and I am learning day by day that it is a safe and peaceful place to be, so I really don’t mind it at this point. I have definitely been enjoying my foster sister and I think that my submissive nature would make me a decent companion for most dogs. In my previous home, I was forced to compete with kitties for food, and considering how large I am, I learned quickly that I can show any cat who is boss. Because of this poor decision on behalf of my previous owner, I can no longer safely live around cats, so my future family should be one that doesn’t have any pets of the feline variety. It is best that I also take my meals in my crate so I feel secure and safe to eat my food. Sometimes I don't like it if other dogs try to see what's on my plate - so foster mom makes sure I don't have to share with others. I am so happy to be a part of POTP and have the opportunity to experience structure, guidance and love, and to feel like I am a part of a family, even if just for a short while. When my foster mom told me that I would be moving on to a family to call my own for the rest of my life, it was truly bitter sweet. I am incredibly loyal and I wouldn’t trade her and foster dad for the greatest steak in the world. I am also so excited to meet the people that will be making me a permanent fixture in their family. I am a flexible girl and I would be satisfied to be someone’s hiking pal, or a puppy pillow for a family that likes to stay in. Please apply at www.powerofthepaw.org if you think that I might be the right fit for you. Much Love- Xena ADOPTION FEE: $200 includes rabies, DAPP, bordetella, flea treatement, deworming, spay, and microchip.

Posted Breed: Retriever / Chow Chow / Mixed (long coat). Kieran 2 Years Old Male Retriever/Chow Good with Dogs Cats Unknown Good with Kids Fostered in Colbert, ID Hello! I’m Kieran (pronounced Kee-run) and my name means “little dark one” in Irish. I am a young chap that is looking for my perfect forever home. I came to Power of the Paw as a stray from the local animal control facility after my family did not come and claim me. Since I spent some time separated from my family, I have had plenty of time to consider who should be my best family in the future. My previous family didn’t take a lot of time to teach me basic obedience, so I need someone to be ready to show me the ropes. My foster family is really awesome and they are teaching me basic manners. I already knew not to potty in the house and learned quickly from my doggy companion the best places in the yard to do my business. So, I have not had any accidents in the house. Foster mom said I was whip-smart and learned the command sit in a less than a couple hours. So, I guess that means a good thing. All I know is I am eager to learn and eager to please you. Are you willing to continue my training? I know I have a lot to learn yet, but I’m ready! I love other dogs – they are so much fun to play with! Do you have dogs I can play with too? I am very playful and submissive, but also need a kind companion that would teach me the doggy ropes. I am kind of clumsy and goofy, still very much like a puppy, so need help with socializing and doggy manners. Since I was a stray, and I’m athletic, I do have a bit of a wandering spirit. Foster mom says that will likely go away soon since I had an appointment at the vet to “get fixed” (whatever that means). So, a fenced yard with a 6 foot fence would be best while I learn to stay home with you. Do you have kids? I love kids! My foster mom and dad have a little boy and I love playing with him. Do you have one of those too? I’d love to play with an older child who is ready to learn along with me. Really little kids are ok too – but I might knock them down in my exuberance. So, if you have really little ones you’d have to teach me how to be around them. All in all, I’m a smart boy-o and would love a home with you – are you ready for me? If so, please go to www.powerofthepaw.org to fill out an application and be considered for adoption. ADOPTION FEE: $200 includes rabies, Bordetella, DAPP, flea treatment, deworming, neuter, and microchip.

Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100. FOSTER LOCATION: Boise, ID Sweet Pip is a timid, adorable little Min Pin. The vet estimates that she is around a 1 year old, she loves to play like a puppy. This adorable little girl has had a rough go of it the past few months but she has come out on top! Pip has recently recovered from both Parvo and from Mange; she is healthy now (though is still growing back some tufts of hair) and ready to find her new family. Pip is very smart and is always making her foster humans smile and laugh. She has the sweetest little face, and even though she is a little timid, it is clear how much she just wants to love and be loved. Pip takes a while to warm up to humans but immediately was comfortable with the four other dogs in her foster home. She loves to follow them around and within minutes figured out how to use the dog door, find the toy bucket and beg for treats! She loves to play with her foster pack, and spends hours wrestling and chasing a similarly aged pup. The presence of the other dogs helped her to overcome much of her timidness and trust her foster humans. But don't let her initial reaction to strangers fool you, Pip is full of life and LOVES to play. She could entertain herself for hours with a good toy and has been known to do so in the middle of the night. She loves a good head and neck rub (seriously, she closes her little eyes and looks so happy). With Pip it is all about patience and letting her feel like she is ready for you to give her that attention that she adores. She frequently tucks her tail under and runs away, even after running up to greet you. But don't worry, a minute later once she feels braver she comes around for her rubs and cuddles. Pip will need another playful/friendly dog that could help with her confidence. She needs a home that is willing to be patient and gentle with her as she learns to trust and become less skittish. A home without children under 15 is a requirement. This girl has been diagnosed with chronic dry eye and will need eye drops 2-3 times a day possibly for life. The drops cost about $50 a month depending on where you buy them they could be a bit less. Pip is spayed, current on shots and has a microchip Pip’s adoption fee is $100 If you have the patience and the heart to invest in a sweet little shy dog Pip would love to join your family and make you laugh yourself silly. Mork 1 year old Yorkie mix Good with dogs Cats unknown Good with older kids Fostered in Post Falls, ID Hello, hello. My name is Mork. Remember it because you are going to fall in love with me and I'm going to become your newest family member. I have quite the story and it's a wonder I still trust humans after my horrible encounter with an abusive man. This man broke my sister’s leg with his abuse. I'm glad I came away with only emotional injury. We were saved by a good person who couldn't take watching the abuse anymore. However, she knew she couldn't get my sister the medical care she needed for her leg, and immediately contacted Power of the Paw. I was fine, but my sister ended up losing her leg. She's healing up nicely now, and I hear she may have already found her forever home. That's ok though. I wasn't really attached anyway. I like to do my own thing and having your sister around can get kinda annoying. My foster mom here is great! She's a ton of fun and really likes having me. She says I have a stubborn streak but when she corrects me for doing something I shouldn't be, I respond well. I figure I should probably listen. These humans are nice to me so I should show them that I trust them. I like to give kisses and spend a lot of time cuddling. I can be a bit bossy with the other dogs, but I live peacefully with them so I'm really all talk. I haven't been around cats, but most of those are bigger than I am, so they should be able to defend themselves from me if I find myself getting a bit bossy. Because of my size I should probably go to a home with older kids just so I don't get hurt. I do need a secure yard. I will climb to try to explore my surroundings when I get bored. But hey, I shouldn't be left outside anyway. I am doing well with both crate training and house training and will continue to learn the rules of your house if you let me show you what potential I have! If you are ready to take that leap, go to www.powerofthepaw.org and fill out the adoption application. It's time to meet me! Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100. Fern 6 years old Lab Mix Good with most dogs Cats Unknown Good with older kids Fostered in Post Falls, ID Fern here. I found myself abandoned up on a forest service road out by Fernan. Most dogs who end up there are abandoned by their owners. I always wonder how many are lucky enough to be saved. I almost wasn't lucky. I was afraid of humans and wouldn't let anyone catch me. Then one day, I got tired of running from my fears and decided to give in; and that's how I got here. I've had a very mysterious life to those humans who have met me. They can only guess that my life hasn't been so glamourous. I was running free, afraid for my life and once caught, they realized I wasn't spayed. Normally, a quick spay and all would have been well. I wasn't so lucky. Somewhere, I had a litter of puppies. Whether or not my "owners" kept them, or whatever happened... I was producing milk that obviously wasn't used. I got a huge infection called mastitis that I'm now trying to heal from. It's painful so I'm having to wear a huge cone to prevent me from trying to lick and chew. I've done well with other dogs, I just don't like them to be pushy and in my face. I've had a rough go at things so I just want a mellow, laid back life from now on. I haven't been around cats so it is unknown if i would like to share my home with them. Kids are fine but because of my past, the small and hyper ones might scare me a bit. I would love to have an active family who can take me hiking, but actually bring me home instead of leaving me to fend for myself. Maybe some camping and swimming too? Let's just find out what we can bond over! To adopt me, go to www.powerofthepaw.org and fill out the adoption application. Then, we can meet and see if we are a good match!
