    Breed: Mutt

    Location: Negaunee, MI
Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). "Upper Peninsula Animal Wefare Shelter" (formerly Marquette County Humane Society) Are you looking for a dog with superior focus? How about one who is smart enough to learn any puzzle you put in front of him? Are you a bit of a homebody and rather walk a back 40 than on a busy road? If you answered "yes" to these questions, we've got just the dog for you! Meet Austin, a 2 and 1/2 year old Plott hound mix. He's a great dog who just simply prefers someone who will devote and spend a lot of time with him. He can be a active guy who is so smart, he can even get out of wire crate. He just needs an avenue to keep his mind and body busy. Austin has a lot of love to give; he just can't contain himself, he blurts with joy. He has lived with children, other dogs and got along well. He can not live with cats or small animals however. Austin isn't for everyone but is you you're looking for a running, hiking, or agility partner, he is SO your man. Of course anyone, Austin has a quirk or two...well mostly just one. Anything with wheels drives is way too much for Austin to handle. Austin has been known to bananas when he sees moving vehicles, and he is quite sure he prefers a home where he doesn't have to see many of those. Though he can ride in the car without incident, it certainly isn't his favorite thing - did we mention he is a homebody?! Austin does well walking once he settles in, and he would love endless romps through fields and woods - he just is not a car guy! So this does mean that Austin's new family should have access to an area or place where they can walk him that isn't a frequently travelled road. The country life is best for this fellow. So, overall, if you're looking for a fun dog who will learn endless tricks, puzzles, games, and be a sweet and wonderful pal, look no further than Austin. If you have a place where he can run and play without encountering many moving cars, this sweet, sensitive boy may just be for you! Pet Adoption Sponsorship from a Austin fan. Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Labrador Retriever Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: Livonia, MI
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet Zoey, she is only ten months old and she's a mix of Black Lab, Shepherd, and Pitt Bull Terrier. Zoey is a very sweet girl and she loves people. She's only been here a few hours and she has already taken to me and quite a few of our volunteers. Zoey has a lot of energy and would do well with an active person or family who can provide the exercise she needs. She likes to stand up and give hugs or just have you sit on her bed and pay attention to her. Zoey can play a little rough at times but she's a puppy and responds well to correction. She knows the basic commands as well. Zoey has been spayed, she tested negative for heart worm, and she is up to date on her vet care. She is taking a monthly heart worm preventative. Zoey has been microchipped for her safety. She weighed in at 55 pounds on May 15th. Zoey did well with potty training at her previous home.

    Bruno

    rescue
    Breed: Boxer
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Sweet Bruno found himself in a shelter as a stray. Definitely no place for a senior boy. So of course, we welcomed this handsome boy into our rescue. The vet estimates him to be around 8-9 years old - he is still quick active and loves to run around and play and his body mass is in pretty good shape. We did do a full dental on him to make those pearly whites shine. He did have a few teeth removed that the vet thought was necessary. All of his bloodwork came back in great shape, so all in all, Bruno is a happy, healthy boy, with no masses and no heart murmurs. He is very friendly with everybody he meets and is tolerant and gentle around all other dogs, large and small. We do not know how he is with cats though. His foster mom says he is THE MOST PERFECT boy in every way and anybody would be SO LUCKY to have this boy as part of their family. She can't say enough good things about him. He is so smart, gets along with everybody and everything, and would do great around young kids too. He has a personality that just makes you smile and this boy has alot to offer his new home. He is housebroke, crate trained, loves going bye-bye and can be quite playful too. He listens well and walks great on a leash . His adoption fee is $100

    Breed: Great Pyrenees
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: Northville, MI
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Saint Bernard (long coat). Meet Crystal! Crystal is a stunning Great Pyrenees. Crystal is a gentle giant but has a loud bark and is fearful of strangers/new people. Crystal will need a family who is willing to give her at least a month or more to adjust to her surroundings, work on training either at home or in classes, and give her time to feel safe. Once she knows and trusts you she will snuggle on the couch, paw you for attention and even give you kisses. All of her loving personality will come out. She was most likely used on a farm as a guard to sheep so she still needs more practice living in a house full time. She does BEST with another DOG to help show her people are ok and to have a playmate. She does have a loud Bark and would probably not be suited for apartment living even though her energy level is low. She lives in a house that is very busy and with kids and hasn't shown a mean bone in her body but a lot of action, strangers coming and going makes her more fearful. She feels safe in her crate and will go there anytime you ask or if she feels insecure. She trusts her foster mom and has built a great relationship with her so we know her person is out there. She is more fearful of new men so the adjustment time for men could be much longer. She was pulled from a shelter where she spent some of her time. We are not sure if that's what caused her to be shy or if its breed related due to her possibly have been a working dog with limited people contact prior to her stay in the shelter. She may enjoy a more farm like atmosphere. Once she trusts you, you can do anything ... give her a bath, brush her, take her for a car ride, walk her on leash anywhere, or just sit around and snuggle. All STAR animals come vetted, Up to Date (UTD) on age appropriate shots and testing, spay and neutered (if of age,) and microchipped. Please fill out an adoption application and start the process for your new family member! AGE DISCLAIMER: Unfortunately, most of the orphaned animals that come into our rescue looking for homes don’t bring birth certificates. Sometimes we know our pets’ ages. Sometimes we don’t. So we make our best guess based on the condition of their teeth and the veterinarians best guess. BREED DISCLAIMER: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label . Microchips: For the safety of our dogs and peace of mind of our fosters and adopters, STAR microchips all dogs prior to adoption with Petlink Microchips. Please understand that all dogs MUST still wear a collar with ID tags (which include your current information) AT ALL TIMES. Please remember, our foster dogs are extremely important to us-- we will always take any of our dogs back, if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. Never surrender him/her to a shelter!

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Bosco! This boy was found as a stray, but no one came to claim him, so now he is looking for his forever home. He is the SWEETEST boy ever! He LOVES people and He is VERY smart. He knows Sit and Down. He does very well in a crate and is fully housebroken. He only barks to alert you that someone is nearby but then quickly stops. He absolutely LOVES car rides! Going on daily walks with his fur foster sister is his favorite thing to do (besides snuggling). Bosco has a lot of energy and would likely do best in a home with no small children (due to their high energy and quick movements). Bosco loves being around other dogs, but because of his excitement does best with a slow and proper introduction. He would LOVE to have a doggy sibling, but would do great as an only dog as well. Bosco is such a pleasure to have in our home, but he would LOVE to be in his FOREVER HOME! Will you be his people? • Pug Dog For Adoption in Farmington, MI

    Nelly

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Pug
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: Farmington, MI
Posted Breed: Pug (short coat). Nelly is a permanent foster Nelly is estimated to be a 3 - 4 year old female Pug. She, was transferred to Pug Luv from a shelter after she was picked up as a stray and was not claimed. She has had puppies, and will be placed on a diet to gain several pounds. When she is standing, you can actually see her ribs. She has been, spayed, brought up to date on Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, heart worm, fecal and blood testing, micro-chipped and have had several teeth extracted. She is potty trained. The shelter stated that she can be food and toy aggressive, although we have not experienced this behavior. She may have some sight issues that are being evaluated and is currently on 2 different eye drops. Should it be necessary she will b seen by the Ophthalmologist? She also has areas of her coat that are thin and this may be a result of an infection and has received a long acting antibiotic injection. She tested heart worm positive and will begin her treatment for this condition on August 8th. The treatment will last for approximately 6 weeks during which time she must be kept calm and not become excited to prevent the heart worms from causing a potential blockage in her arteries that can result in her death. She saw the Ophthalmologist on August 11th for an evaluation. This little girl has apparently been through far too much in her life. She was picked up in Detroit as a stray. Apparently after her owners were finished using her to produce puppies, they opened their door and sent her on her way. She is so sweet and only wants to please people. She knows to sit on command and go into her crate when asked. At some point in time she must have had a very bad experience with her Veterinary care. It is unbelievable how this sweet and loving little girl switches to aggressive behavior when she is at the Veterinary Office. The Pug Luv vet has determined that Nelly is not 3-4 years old, but 5-7 years old. Another blood test was done, this time by the Pug Luv Veterinarian to ascertain the severity of the heart worm in an attempt to prioritize her treatments. As a result of the test it was decided to proceed with treatment of the heart worm. She will begin her heart worm treatment on August 23rd. At the time she begins her treatment, she will also have the erupted teeth removed that have caused the infection to come through on her face. She has no vision out of one eye and limited vision in the other. There is also concern over her hearing and that will be further evaluated. She saw the Ophthalmologist on August 11th for an evaluation. She has a severe case of pigmentation in her left eye and moderately dense pigmentation in her right eye. As a result, at this time she has no sight in the left eye and little sight in the right eye. She will receive Tacrolimus eye drops in both eyes 3 times a day. Over the next several months this should decrease the pigmentation and her vision in both eyes should dramatically improve. Nelly visited the doctor on November 11th to receive her heartworm medication and be observed. She also had new x-rays of her lungs to determine the cause of her cough. The 1st heart worm treatment was done and the teeth that needed to be extracted have been done. She does in fact have limited hearing and is on 2 ear medications twice daily. One is 8 drops and the other 6 drops each time. Nelly had her second heart worm treatment on 9/26. She did well with the treatment and should be came back home on the 28th. She will need to be in an inactive status for one month where she only is out of her crate for potty time and that will be on a leash to keep him activity to a minimum. She will be rechecked in late October to determine the next course of treatment. She has a cyst on the top of her head that must be removed but cannot be done until after the heart worm treatment is completed as to not excite her. Nelly is now suffering from Pneumonia which is being treated with medications. She will also have her first heartworm pill on Tuesday and be monitored to make certain there are no complications from the pill being administered. Nellie visited the Pug Luv vet on November 11th for her first heartworm pill to be administered and to be observed after taking it. She also had additional x-rays of her lungs to see how the medications had affected the Pneumonia. She had no reaction to the administration of the Heartworm pill and the x-rays showed she is improving. She has completed her antibiotics and is now taking cough medicine. She was rechecked and x-rayed. Her lungs are clear. She was placed on a cough suppressant to clear up her cough. The cough is a result of the heartworm and may never be entirely cleared up. She continues on Steroids and the cough suppressant. She can now enjoy playing and sitting on your lap. She loves to borough in the covers of the bed. She saw the Ophthalmologist on November 29th at which time he determined she was making progress with the use of the eye medications. Nellie recently was hospitalized with what was diagnosed as Hepatitis. She was placed on IV fluids and antibiotics. As a result of the illness she developed a Cataract in her left eye. She saw the Ophthalmologist and will need to have surgery to remove the Cataract. The surgery was delayed to give her time to recuperate from the Hepatitis. Her surgery is scheduled for March 21st. Nelly was again hospitalized the week of March 14th with a reoccurrence of vomiting and diapered. Her liver function test came back normal. She remains on a special diet and is fed 4 times a day and on medication twice daily. Her Cataract surgery has been postponed for a week as a result of the recent hospitalization. Nelly had surgery to remove the Cataract in her right eye on May 16th. She will be wearing the cone of shame for at least a week to prevent her from scratching at the eye. She is on 2 oral medications and 4 eye drops 4 times a day with restricted activities. Because Nellie does no interact well with people at events she will remain as a permanent foster. Consider making a donation to help with her Veterinary expenses. If you are interested in any of the Pugs currently residing with Pug Luv, go to the Adopt/Foster tab to downlaod, print, complete and mail in an application for adoption to begin the process.

Posted Breed: Beagle / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi, I am Clemmy. I am a bit shy when you first meet me but warm up super quick! I am thought to be only a year old and my favorite activity is to be near my owner being petted or in the same room as my family. I also enjoy playing fetch! I love relaxing on the couch or even better, in your lap! I would like a low activity household or a dog sibling around the same size as me. Louder noises can frighten me as well as bigger dogs. I'm not too interested in playing with other dogs either, so if my household has same size dog(s) as me, fantastic, along as they are not up in my personal space a lot or want to play. I enjoy chew or gnaw toys and car rides. My foster mom says I have a thin coat and don’t really shed at all! I do not like being crated for extended periods of time, although I do well if left in a safe doggie area. I would love to be in my owner’s bed at night and I snuggle under the covers sometimes. An owner that is home a lot, in a quieter household, who is looking for a couch and night snuggle buddy and play some fetch, look no further, bingo, you've found me! All STAR animals come vetted, Up to Date (UTD) on age appropriate shots and testing, spay and neutered (if of age,) and microchipped. Please fill out an adoption application and start the process for your new family member!
