    Bentley

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Doberman Pinscher
    Sex: Male Male
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher. My name is Bentley and I am four years old. I wonder sometimes why I was named after a powerful striking automobile – was it because I looked powerful and confident? I also wonder why my life has been so hard and why I am in rescue right now. You see, I have not always been treated well by the human race. I endured very painful times in my life at the hands of humans and especially from children. It is not fun for a dog to be teased and tortured. We are supposed to love children but because of what happened to me at times I just can’t trust them at all. They make me very nervous and uncomfortable. Adults are another matter. I open up and let them in but it takes me time to warm up and assess the situation. I don’t mind being petted but being hugged – even by adults- scares me to death. Now, please don’t think that I sit around all day dwelling on the past. I don’t. I look to the future and dream of a family of adults who will be trustworthy. Who won’t let me down. A family who will see the beautiful and even humorous boy I can be. I have a lot of joy inside of me and long to share that but it has to be with someone I can trust. In many respects I’m no different from a human who has been hurt. Healing and trust take time but I still enjoy life! I love a good car ride! I was once riding in the country with one or our volunteers and we saw a bald eagle lift off of the road in front of us with a rabbit in his beak and I even sat there with my mouth open at the sight. I’d like to share more moments like that. I am a smart boy. I want to please and I want to learn. I need confidence. I walk well on a leash and know several commands and I want to learn more and more. I need a family who will love me enough to teach me. Who will see the beauty of my spirit. The thing I crave most in a forever home after love is CALMNESS. I have had my fill of screaming yelling and hitting. I need quiet patient trusting leadership from ADULTS( I WILL NOT be adopted to a home with children.) who understand dogs but, more importantly, understand Dobermans. Recent Doberman experience is a key to me meeting my goals. If there is another dog in the household it is best if it is female, submissive and calm(and more medium sized or larger) Dogs getting in my face and being pushy and noisy drives me crazy – most humans don’t like that either. Face it, it’s just not good manners. I am a diamond in the ruff just waiting for a human that will not let me down but will see it through so that I can sparkle with confidence and learn and grow! Please ask for me at www.doberescue-ne.org All of our dogs are current with all shots, are on heart worm preventative monthly and are neutered/spayed. All dogs are tail docked. All of the above Dobes are pure breed Dobermans unless otherwise noted. We hope you can find a place in your heart and your home for one of our rescue Dobes. Please Note: In most cases we require a fenced yard. We do not place our rescue dogs in homes with very young children (under the age of 8 years). We set these limitations, not because of aggression issues with our dogs, but because Dobermans are generally large, active dogs and can easily knock down, run over or easily trip a small child, causing a serious fall. Also, we reserve the right to refuse adoption for any reason. Our adoption area encompasses Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. Breed: Bluetick Coonhound-Coonhound Mix

    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Bluetick Coonhound / Coonhound / Mixed (short coat). Heartliy is about 2 years old. She is spayed and current on vaccinations and microchipped. Best guess on breed is blue tick hound/beagle and maybe some walking tree hound. She is about 48 lbs. She is good with other dogs and kids. She has been around cats and after the first few interactions she is fine. Mostly wants to play with them. She is house and kennel trained. Typical active fun young dog. Heartliy is also a super snuggler. She can and will jump a standard 4 chain fence if she sees something that interested her on the other side. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $100 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. Posted Breed: Papillon / American Eskimo Dog / Mixed (long coat). Sparky is about 5 years old. He is about 26 lbs. He is a little confused as to what has happened to him. He loves attention and petting. He likes going outside but not sure if that is too look for away out. He is suppose to be housetrained but with all the changes there has been some accidents so we hope that clears up (the cold weather is not helping). Not sure how he is with small kids, he loves teenagers for sure. Sparky will be available after the 23rd when he gets neutered. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $200 donation is requested at the time of adoption. Breed: Rat Terrier

Posted Breed: Rat Terrier (short coat). Scooby-Doo is a sweet boy. He loves petting and playing. He is about 3.5-4 years old and weighs 10lbs. He does like to play with fingers so maybe not a match for real young kids that do not understand. He he is let out enough he is housetrained. This cold weather does not make it easy to judge his housetraining because no one wants to go out in it. He has been around other dogs and cats and does fine. He has great spots on him, he is just as handsome as can be. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $150 donation is requested at the time of adoption. Simka

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Italian Greyhound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound (short coat). Simka could easily be named “Sweetie” because she has a very sweet personality and is somewhat feisty. She is small, completely blind and toothless. She has some arthritis but is otherwise healthy for a puppy mill dog. Simka is surprisingly strong for being so small and wiry. Simka may look fragile, but will run and stretch when she feels safe in her environment. It is a joy to see her happy in her environment. For such a small dog, Simka loves food and gets excited when it’s time to eat. Since she’s toothless she eats wet food and kibble that’s been softened, and loves a good meal. Simka has excellent potty habits. Although she doesn’t let on when she needs to go, once on a schedule it’s easy to learn her habits. She does very well with an extra large piddle pad when necessary. A leash is used when Simka is taken out to her business, and is currently carried up and down steps. She walks fine with a lead but you have to be her eyes so she doesn’t run into things. With time, she may be able to be accustomed to her surroundings. Unlike most Italian Greyhounds, Simka does not burrow into blankets, and wears clothes to stay warm. She doesn’t mind wardrobe changes, and is very even-keeled while being handled. Simka loves napping, and her foster Mom has never heard her bark. Simka is very sweet, and does not appear to be affected by other dogs or cats. She does not show any signs of aggression against other household pets. Overall, a calm household is ideal for Simka and Brandi to settle in with their forever family. FOSTERING IN PIERCE, NE BRANDI AND SIMKA WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED TOGETHER

    Brandi

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Italian Greyhound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound (short coat). Brandi epitomizes a diamond in the rough. Her foster Mom considers her almost perfect, and advises Brandi will need special care with lots of love. Even though she has a general mistrust of humans (for a good reason), in the six weeks she’s been in her foster home she is coming out of her fear and shyness. It has been heart-warming watching her blossom in a loving environment. Her forever home will need to be with someone who is patient, and once Brandi’s settled into a safe environment, she has the potential to be the best fur baby ever, with a playful nature beginning to emerge. Vision-impaired Brandi is emotionally dependent on Simka, who is blind. Keeping track of Simka brings out Brandi’s motherly traits, and she stays close to who she considers to be her ward. Because of this relationship, the two need to stay together in their forever home. Brandi has excellent potty habits are great as long as she’s kept on her schedule. Extra large piddle pads are used as a back up, and 90% of the time she hits the piddle pads dead center. Unlike most Italian Greyhounds, Brandi does not burrow into blankets, so to keep her warm her foster Mom keeps clothes on her. She can be a bit nervous when the coats are put over her head and doesn’t like the noise of Velcro, but has shown signs of improvement as dressing has become part of her routine. Because of her limited vision, Brandi has been learning voice commands. “Up,” “down,” and “stop” are helpful when going outside to relieve herself. She has a clean bill of health, and gets a glucosamine supplement on the vet’s recommendation to help ward against future arthritis. Brandi does not appear to be affected by other dogs or cats, and does not show any signs of aggression against other household pets. Overall, a calm household is ideal for Brandi and Simka to settle in with their forever family. FOSTERING IN PIERCE NE BRANDI AND SIMKA WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED TOGETHER

    ELVIS--ADOPT...

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Italian Greyhound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound (short coat). Elvis is Sarah's father and he is 7 years old. They are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. They are beautiful, sturdy, biggy iggies and are being fostered near Waterloo Iowa. He gets along great with other dogs and all people. He is super social and loves to meet new people and other pups. Not a skittish iggy but rather, confident and outgoing. Although Elvis is not real playful, he will play with toys a little bit. He is very content with sleeping in the bed with you or sitting and snuggling on the couch. Potty habits are good and typical of iggies. They love sunning outside and playing in the yard so a fenced yard is preferred. They are a sweet pair/duo and deserving of a loving home. Could that be yours?

Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound (short coat). Sarah is Elvis' daughter and they are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. They are being fostered outside of Waterloo, IA. Sarah is a 6 year old biggie iggie with a beautiful, sturdier build. Sarah gets along great with other dogs and all people. She is very confident and comfortable with meeting new people. She loves sunning outside and playing in the yard so a fenced yard is preferred. Sara is a little bit of a private eater so she may need to be fed separately. These awesome, loving, confident dogs need a loving, forever home together, could that be you?

    Tony

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Italian Greyhound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound (short coat). Tony is estimated to be about 10 years old. and boy does he have a gorgeous, silky black coat! He and his forever friend, Willy, were left at an animal shelter by no fault of their own. Tony is a very sweet, happy go lucky, mellow guy who wants nothing more than to be loved by you. He will gently nudge you with his head or put his paws up on your legs to get some love. He loves to snuggle and rest next to his person. He gets along with everyone including respectful children and is very friendly. He has been making buddies with the other foster dogs too. He LOVES being outdoors and running around with his buddy. He has recovered beautifully from surgery to remove his skin cancer tumors so he is ready for his forever home. He will need to be limited in regards to his sunbathing to keep new growths at bay but Spoiled BratzWear donated a new sun suit for when they venture out in the sun. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm neg and had a recent dental with 5 extractions. He will need to have his skin monitored for new growths as well as his teeth monitored and routine dentals (as all IG's require) due to neglect of his teeth over the years. He must be adopted with Willy as they have been together since they were young. We will NOT separate them. Tony will crate nicely overnight alongside willy without a peep, however they love sleeping with their person too :) They need someone who will give them a happy ending and home after a not so happy recent past. Fostering in NE Iowa.

    Breed: Italian Greyhound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound (short coat). Willy is estimated to be about 12 years old but don't let his age fool you! He acts like a pup more than half his age! He was surrendered to an animal shelter with his buddy Tony by no fault of his own. He is a small, happy, spunky, active, friendly and silly little guy. He does love affection but does't seem to need to be always around his person like some iggies do. He has the cutest whole body/bottom wiggle when he is happy! He gets along with other dogs, all people and respectful kids. He does crate nicely and quietly overnight in the same kennel as his brother but he really loves sleeping with his people. He loves playing outdoors and running in the fenced yard with his brother. He enjoys taking walks around the neighborhood and sniffing all the new smells. He has had surgery to remove some cancer lumps on his skin and is now ready for his new home! He has a new UV suit for when he is outside in the sun to try to mimimize new tumors from forming due to sun exposure. He is fully vetted including neutering, vaccinations, heartworm negative and recent dental where he lost 5 teeth (molars). He will need to have his skin monitored for new growths and also his teeth monitored with frequent dentals (not uncommon with this breed) due to the neglect of his teeth over the years. He is looking for a home along with his brother Tony as they have been together for their whole life. We will NOT adpopt them separately. They are being fostered in NE Iowa.
