    Breed: Mutt

    Age: Adult
    Location: Fargo, ND
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). {s3829code380/} If you would like to provide this dog a loving home, please fill out a pre-adoption application. Have a question? Please read our Frequently Asked Questions and Adoption Processed Explained documentation. FOSTER HOME NEEDED Statistics Name: Gretta Breed: Shepard Mix Age: 6.5 Years Size: Large 65 lbs. ~Large range: 60 - 100 lbs. Adoption Donation: $75 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid with cash or check. Other: Spayed female, vaccinations current, microchip, needs to be the only pet in her adoptive home. Gretta is a long legged beauty who loves to go for long walks and snuggle in front of the TV - Won't you give her a chance? Foster Home Feedback * No other dogs in home; No Cats ~Gretta is nervous around new people-- adopters should be aware of when their company is coming so that precautions can be made to crate Gretta or take steps to introduce her to strangers in a positive way (We'll show you how!). A quiet home without a lot of people coming/going would be best for Gretta. 4/30/17 Volunteer Feedback: I have Gretta over at our home about once a week. We have had many dogs in our lives, however, Gretta is truly the one with the most loveable personality we have ever witnessed. As you can see by her pictures, she has come a long way! I see a much happier, joyful girl! She met a contractor doing work at our home and greeted him warmly, wagging her tail in excitement. He instantly fell in love with Gretta. Gretta has the best manners of any dog I have ever seen. She listens upon command. I have only witnessed her react a couple times when she is away from the shelter. Once when a person was walking right up to our car in the Walmart parking lot. She immediately redirected herself while I patted her on the back, looking back at me with the utmost confidence. She plays fetch in our backyard that backs up to a golf course, watching many golfers and carts buzz by. Not a peep out of her! We recently had her on a walk and from a distance, a couple dogs were loose. She briefly looked at them as we diverted her in another direction and went along our merrier way. I believe she is doing everything she can now to find a home of her very own! I see her confidence continue to build each time she visits. Take the time to come meet her, you will immediately fall in love with this charming beauty! 4/8/17 Volunteer Feedback: What a wonderful girl Miss Gretta is! I know from seeing that she does not like other animals on her profile that it can be a little disheartening, especially after you see how beautiful she is. However, while this is an important thing to note, don't let it stop you from learning more about her first. I have a dog who is not always dog-friendly so I thought I would share things that work for us because some things can be concerning when looking into a dog with some small issues. If you're concerned about going to the vet with her? Advise your vet office you have a dog who is not dog-friendly. They will let you into a room right away to wait and help you leave when the office is empty. Concerned about going for a walk where you might run into other dogs? Don't walk during peak times. We often walk during the day, over dinner time, or later in the evening when there aren't so many people out and about. Gretta would also be a great candidate to learn how to walk on a treadmill. Concerned about what to do if you go out of town? There are affordable pet sitters who come into your home to care for your dog to avoid the stress of being in a kennel. We've had great luck with many in town. Concerned about her meeting new people? Kennel her if you are unsure of your company and her getting along. Or help her with slow and positive introductions. Gretta is very treat motivated and has come a long way with the help of some great volunteers. Gretta loves to play fetch, chew on bones on the couch, give very nice kisses, and get belly rubs. She is such a sweet and loving girl who I have so enjoyed getting to spend time with. If you're interested in Gretta or have more questions please fill out an application and consider giving her the loving home she so deserves. 2/21/17 Volunteer Feedback: How has this lady not found her forever home yet?! Just LOOK at her...she is adorable, well mannered, just a perfect one and only companion. Gretta enjoys her exercise but she is perfectly capable of being lazy as well. Gretta has been at 4 Luv's shelter for some time now. Although, us volunteers give her as much love as humanly possible (and I mean a lot of love since she has gained some weight)! Gretta DESERVES a home, where she can receive endless amounts of love because that's what she deserves. Her eyes captivate you. You can see her soul and how she desperately wants to find her person. Give this lady a chance, I promise you won't regret it. 1/26/17 Volunteer Feedback: I had Gretta over for a building break and she was very well mannered. She couldn't stop wagging her tail! She loves treats and playing ball. She will keep dropping the ball in your lap. She isn't a high energy dog. She even walked into a warm shower and loved being dried off with a towel! She is very easy to please. We did a slow intro and she was fine meeting my husband. If you have no dogs, she would love to cuddle with you! 1/4/17 Volunteer Feedback: This girl is the absolute sweetest dog! I am a building volunteer and have always enjoyed my shifts with Gretta and recently I have been taking her for kennel breaks and am falling even more in love with this girl! She rides great in the car, knows sit, shake, down and stay; she is so eager to please. Gretta isn't overly energetic, loves to play but also just likes to be by your side. This sweet girl needs someone to give her a chance. Taking the extra precautions will be well worth it as she will be a great companion. 11/13/16 Volunteer Feedback: Oh Gretta... she is a tall beauty who wants to be your one and only. She needs to be the only pet in the home (this is also the same outside of the home in public). She needs respectful distance from other dogs/cats and should not be interacting with them. Gretta is so smart and eager to work with you!! I had so much fun walking with her and just doing basic obedience commands. Gretta will require daily walks in a safe area where you won't run into a bunch of dogs that are not in control. She would probably love going for long hikes in nature (on leash only). Right now we are working on her fear reactions of moving vehicles but as I stated, she is smart and eager to work/please. With some good work with a trainer, Gretta would be so great to have around. 10/20/16 Volunteer Feedback: Gretta is a sweetheart. She seems a bit cautious when you first meet her, but she warms up to you very quickly. I am used to stubborn dogs in my household so having her constantly follow me around was a real treat. She LOVES her companions and will go wherever you want to go (Now that’s loyalty). Gretta deserves the best in life as do all of our shelter dogs that come and go. But there are always certain one’s you never forget.. she has definitely fallen under that category for me. If you are looking for a great dog who will relax when you want to relax, will play when you want to play, who will love you unconditionally after the first 20 seconds of her laying eyes on you.. she just might be the dog for you, just remember Gretta is very special, so she wants all of the attention for herself with no other dogs. Noah

    rescue
    Breed: Bichon Frise-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: Fargo, ND
Posted Breed: Bichon Frise / Mixed (long coat). {s3829code380/} If you would like to provide this dog a loving home, please fill out a pre-adoption application. Have a question? Please read our Frequently Asked Questions and Adoption Processed Explained documentation. Statistics Name: Noah Breed: Bichon Frise Mix Age: 7 Years Size: Small 15 Lbs. ~Small range: up to 25 lbs Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid with cash or check. Other: Neutered Male, Vaccinations current, Microchip, Older considerate children only Noah needs a home of his very own. Foster Home Feedback 4/3/17: Meet Noah! Please take a moment to scroll up and gaze into his deep brown eyes. Isn’t he the cutest?!? Noah is a very cute, cuddly lap dog. He likes to be right by his person as much as possible but does not put up much of a fuss when his person leaves. He does well in his kennel. Noah goes in the kennel on command and may whine for a bit, but it quickly subsides. He really likes to play with his squeaky plush toy. He plays both fetch and tug of war with it and he likes to have it as his companion while he is in his kennel. Noah has been in a house with two other dogs and they have gotten along well. He tries to get them to play with him, which lasts for a few minutes, but my dogs are old and tired, so mainly they just lay around on the couch together. Noah enjoys being outside, whether it by in a fenced yard or on a walk around the neighborhood. As for cats, I have an interesting dynamic at my house, so it is hard to judge how he would react to a household with a cat. I have one cat that is large and laid back that Noah doesn’t bother. I have another cat that Noah likes to chase and he thinks she is his own personal squeaky toy, which she does not appreciate. So if you have a cat, Noah and your cat would need to meet to see if they jive or if Noah would rather herd/pounce/chase/bark at your cat (which is SUPER fun for Noah but not so much for your cat). The first week or so, Noah should wear a belly band in his new surroundings. Noah has a charming* habit of marking while he gets used to a new home. Wearing the belly band has deterred him from leaving his mark in many places. He wet them a little bit the first couple of days, but by day 4 his belly band was completely dry. As a precaution, I left it on for another day while I was at work, and it was still completely dry when I came home. He hasn’t worn one since. Now you’re on the fence because you read about the peeing. I promise he quits after awhile, just stick with the belly band. Please scroll back up and look in the big brown eyes and then come back. * That habit is totally not charming. Refer to the big brown eyes, though! You still with me? Good! Noah needs to eat grain free food. If he eats food with grain or any foods with colors, he chews his paws and gets itchy. This is uncomfortable for him and it’s also super annoying for the person he lives with who has to hear him chew on his feet. The grain free food has really cut down on the amount of scratching, so Noah needs to be on this type of food to maintain both his and your sanity. Noah can be startled at times and shy, but once he knows and trusts you, he is super friendly. Until that trust is established, he may back away when someone is attempting to pet him. Throw some cookies or yummy treats his way and ignore him as he has his moment. Sudden movements and loud noises do startle him (but let’s be honest—doesn’t that startle all of us?) Due to this, he cannot be placed in a home with small children or a home where small children frequently visit. Are you a person who doesn’t enjoy small children? Noah is the guy for you! Noah really is a great guy. He’s got a few personality quirks that need to be taken into consideration, but so long as you can keep toddlers from pestering him, feed him a grain- free food, accept that he’s not going to make out with you on the first date (buy him dinner first!) and he’ll need to wear a belly band until he’s fooled himself into thinking he owns your home, he’s an easy keeper. Noah’s fun, he loves to play, and he’ll be your constant friend and walking buddy—if you think you’ve got room in your heart and home for this cute little weirdo, please apply today! Breed: Rat-Cha
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: Fargo, ND
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (long coat). {s3829code380/} If you would like to provide this dog a loving home, please fill out a pre-adoption application. Have a question? Please read our Frequently Asked Questions and Adoption Processed Explained documentation. Statistics Name: Lightning Breed: Chihuahua - Rat Terrier Mix Age: 7 Years Size: Small 15 lbs. Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid with cash or check. Other: Neutered Male, Vaccinations current, Microchip, Older considerate children (Over 12 yrs. old), ** Also see info in Foster home Feedback Lightning is in need of your TLC; Love him! Foster Home Feedback * Older considerate children (over 12) ** When Lightning came to Rescue he had extremely painful eyes and vision loss associated with untreated, uncontrolled Glaucoma. His vision loss is permanent, but thanks to a dedicated veterinary team (and his equally dedicated foster!) Lightning's glaucoma is under control. He will need to have eye drops for the rest of his life. Adopter(s) will be responsible to refill these medications once the supply 4 Luv of Dog furnishes runs out; the cost of these drops are around $50/month. Without this medication, Lightning's eye pressures will increase and he will be in a lot of pain-- any adopter(s) for Lightning will need to be committed to his ongoing eye care. 5/22/17: Hi, I'm Lightning. I love head scratches & belly rubs; they make me smile. My favorite spot to snooze is under my blanket, on the couch or a bed. I'd do best with older children because if I'm startled, I get scared. I can't see very well, but my daily eye drops help my eyes feel better. It doesn't slow me down from playing with my "foster" siblings! I am house trained, I haven't met any cats yet, AND I know how to "sit" & "lay". My favorite toys are soft ones. While you are out, I can stay in the kennel or just hang out on the couch, under my blanket. 12/13/16: Lightning is a very sweet little man that LOVES to snuggle. He is housebroken and kennel trained. Due to his sight problems, he should go to a home that understands his needs and will go slow around him. He startles easily so a house with young children is not ideal. He is dog-friendly with both small and large dogs but should be around those who respect his space and his shy laid back manner. His favorite place to sleep and hang out is under a nice large plush blanket. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org

    Twister

    rescue
    Breed: Beagle
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: Wahpeton, ND
Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Twister is a sweet and friendly Beagle who was born in 2010. She loves people, kids, and other dogs. We don't know what she thinks about cats. Twister has the prerequisite extra "Beagle brain" in her nose. She is ruled by the scents she picks up and will follow them instead of you. Twister-- in other words-- needs a fenced-in yard, or else she will be wandering far and wide. She is also quite proficient in digging holes. She has issues with potty-training; she can hold her urine for only a couple hours. Twister's up-to-date on her vaccinations and has been spayed. If you think this gal is for you, please come out to the shelter and check her out! She loves to play and cuddle! Her big Beagle ears need a lot of scratching and full body massages are always welcome! For more information, please call The Humane Society of Richland-Wilkin Counties at 701-672-1676. Other: ‚Äč Both Neutered Males, Vaccinations current, Microchip, Older considerate children only *Thank you for the anonymous adoption donation! Tanner & Patches are a bonded pair; They are buddies for life and they will keep you in smiles! Foster Home Feedback 1/28/17: These two amazing dudes would LOVE to be your forever valentine. They just finished up their doctorates in "Snuggling"! Super playful, hilarious, sweet, and easy-going dogs. They enjoy walks on the sidewalk, sunbutter kongs, and the finest tap water that Moorhead can provide. We've been working on our commands and manners, and are making daily progress. They love their kennels and go in willingly when it's time.Tanner & Patches have even made some breakthroughs with "stranger danger" and trust issues! They hope to find someone with a lot of love in their heart and LOTS of patience, understanding, and willingness to work with them. ~ Oh, and snugz. Lots of snugz! 12/19/16: Merry Christmas from Tanner and Patches! These two beautiful boys are thriving together! Both are off of their anxiety meds. Both are so much more confident. Patches is doing great at classes. Walks are easy. They constantly play together and are always right next to each other. So snuggly and lovey! 11/7/16: Tanner and Patches are a bonded pair that is looking for a loving and patient home that they can go to together. Tanner and Patches got a bad start in life and as a result can be very shy, nervous, and unsure of meeting new people. Tanner warms up very quickly, especially with treat bribes and lots of pets. Patches, on the other hand, is very nervous around new people. The first day at my house, he stayed in his open kennel most of the day, until he felt comfortable enough to come explore. With enough love, patience, and work, they can be amazing companions. We tried to adopt them out separately, but this did not have great results. These brothers have separation anxiety issues and are much better off staying in a household together. Tanner and Patches constantly play together. Both are crate trained, especially when bribed with a filled Kong! They have shown great results in training classes, making great strides in their development. Both are very treat motivated, and also thrive on positive interaction. We have our basic commands down, and working on refining them. In the couple of months that Tanner and Patches have been in my home, they have gone from very timid, unsure, and shy dogs, to confident, playful, and loving pups. Both love snuggles and being by their person nonstop. We are great at walks, especially while using an EZ harness. Tanner and Patches would be an amazing addition to any family. They are looking for someone who is patient, and willing to work with them to gain confidence and to know that they can be loved and give love unconditionally. Tanner: 10/5/16: Tanner has been with me for about three months now. He is very shy at first but warms up very quickly. We bonded within the first couple days at my house, and he is now my shadow. The easiest way to his heart is with treats and lots of pets. Tanner is very loving, loyal, snuggly, and a giant goofball. He has a master's degree in snuggling. For the most part, he is very low-key, but he loves walks and loves to run laps around my backyard. Tanner is crated during the day at my house, as he does have some separation anxiety. I do have to bribe him with treats. I think once he is comfortable in your home, he could be left out in the house. We had some issues with anxiety accidents, but he never chewed or destroyed anything. He sleeps in bed with me and the other dogs, and we have not had any issues. He gets along great with other dogs and loves to engage in friendly play. I have an alpha dog, and he has never had any issues with that. Tanner listens very well and is very eager to learn. We have gone to a couple obedience classes at Down Dog Studio, and he made remarkable progress within the hour lesson. I think he would do great in a weekly class. Tanner has had zero issues with children. At adoption events, toddlers have walked up to him and hugged his face, and he has reciprocated with gentle kisses. Tanner needs to go to a home with another dog. He gets anxiety being alone at home during the day. He also needs another dog to show him how to be a dog. Patches: 10/9/16 Volunteer Feedback: We've had Patches this weekend and he is a super sweet boy. He does need a full day to warm up and get used to you; however, once he does, he will follow you everywhere and you'll become his comfort. We have two dogs and he seems honestly indifferent to them. He's more concerned with where his person is than anything else. We have a fenced yard and I think that would be the best for him as he likes to wander around the yard and take in all the scents. We don't have a super quiet neighborhood due to construction around us and he's grown used to the noises already, so he does get accustomed to his surroundings given a little time. Patches would do best with a quiet home with no young kids because sudden noises and movements do startle him. He is super gentle and his fur is incredibly soft. Are you able to give this sweet guy a forever home? Fill out an application today! He's waiting to call you his own.
