    Tyke

    verified

    rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: Philadelphia, PA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Woo-hoo! Make way for Tyke, the happy whirling dervish. Tyke's incredibly enthusiastic and needs to learn manners. He's only a pup, so basic obedience training would be a good place to start. Tyke is a gorgeous chestnut brindle with white spots, and sometimes when we look at him, we think we might see flashes of Boxer. Tyke is currently 27 pounds, but we think he could be double that once he is grown judging by the size of his feet. He could live with other dogs his size and older children, but we don't know about cats yet. Name: Tyke Location: Grays Ferry Clinic (All our dogs meets are by appointment only - please call ahead.) Breed: Pit mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label) Age: 3 - 6 months Weight: Currently 27 pounds, but he is likely to be at least 50 pounds when fully grown. Reason for surrender to shelter: Tyke was found as a stray. If you are interested in meeting Tyke, please email dogs@phillypaws.org for an application. If you have questions, please email the above address or contact our adoption staff at 215-298-9680, ext. 16. Zoey

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: Philadelphia, PA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Zoey is a loving dog who prefers belly rubs over treats (she still loves treats). She knows how to sit and loves going for walks but won't need a lot of exercise. She loves cuddling on the couch or is perfectly content relaxing in her crate. The terrier in her has some barking tendencies but she seems to adjust to city noises. She will sometimes bark at people on bikes as they probably look funny to her. She does seem toy & food possessive but there is room for growth beyond this behavior. We think she is partial to female humans but will warm up to males when she gets to walk up and meet them. She is crate trained and loves a squeaky ball over rope. Overall she is a loving and happy dog that wants a forever home that is open to getting to know Zoey and her quirks. Zoey would do best in an adult-only home with owners who can read her behavior signals. She has been friendly with meeting other dogs unless they challenge her energy level and Zoey can hold her own in friendly wrestling match. Name: Zoey Location: Northeast Adoption Center (All our dogs meets are by appointment only - please call ahead.) Breed: Terrier mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat). Muppet asks nothing more than the coziness of your lap or the quiet comfort of his little cushion. A very bright little fellow Muppet is house broken and learns whatever you would like him to know with just a few instructions. He doesn’t mind being left at home on his bed for a few hours if you tell him you’ll be back. Muppet does have some anxiety if you leave him in a car. He gets along with other dogs but tends to observe rather than play. Muppet offers perfect companionship and would be ideal for someone who would like a dog but may not have time for the puppy stage. Muppet has Cushing's Disease for which he takes medication twice a day. This means he will require blood tests periodically to be certain he is receiving the proper dosage. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi, I'm Sophie. I am a lovely pit bull lady who would be a great fit for someone looking for a mellow dog who doesn't need a lot of training. I'm housebroken, and I love to show off the commands I know, like sit, down, paw, gently taking treats, and walking nicely on a leash! I was brought back to the shelter because I was being a bit of a grumpy older lady with my toddler roommate- I like kids, but I'll sometimes growl if little ones aren't respectful of my space (or if I get surprised out of a nap)! Because of this, I'd do best in a home with adults and older kids who are a little more on my wavelength. I love all small dogs and can coexist with larger male dogs, but I can be a diva with other large female dogs and don't want to share my home with one. I shouldn't live with cats, because I don't understand that I shouldn't chase them. I'm really mild-mannered, but sometimes I like to jump up to sneak a kiss from you! Name: Sophie Location: Foster Care Breed: Pit bull mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. Posted Breed: Greyhound / Mixed (short coat). This bouncy, friendly guy is an interesting mix of whippet and pinscher. His owner surrendered him to us along with his brother Sunny - they could live together but can also be adopted out separately. He was a house dog but needs exercise to stay happy and healthy, and has gotten used to being on leash while in the shelter. Now he enjoys his walks a lot! Niko is really nice with people and wants to cuddle - he'll jump up on your lap and curl up when he gets sleepy (see pics!). Niko would benefit from training, because he's a smart guy and is eager to learn. Niko has lots of energy to share with you (he'd love to join you on runs or hikes!) and would also love to be able to have some serious cuddle time. Niko tested well with cats and can probably live with them! He has been living with his brother and another dog, and responds with friendly interest when he sees them on walks. Breed: Shih Tzu-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: Philadelphia, PA
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu / Mixed (medium coat). **Twister is special needs because of her age and medical needs. Please only apply if you are able to care for a senior pet.** Twister is an independent girl who is ready to settle in and spend the rest of her life in the lap of luxury. She's fairly social and tolerates other dogs. Because she is older, we do not recommend she live with children under the age of 8. We don't know how she feels about cats yet. Name: Twister Location: Foster Care Breed: Shih tzu mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label) Age: 10+ years old Weight: 14 pounds Reason for surrender to shelter: Twister was found as a stray If you are interested in meeting Twister, please email dogs@phillypaws.org for an application. If you have questions, please email the above address or contact our adoption staff member at 215-298-9680, ext. 16. Animal ID#A22675587 (Updated 5/9/17) PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization. PAWS pulls at-risk animals from the City of Philadelphia's animal control shelter and adopts them out from several locations: our Old City adoption center (2nd and Arch Streets), our Northeast Adoption Center (1810 Grant Avenue); our Wellness Clinic at 2900 Grays Ferry Avenue; our adoption locations at the South Philly and Cottman Avenue PetSmart stores; and, our network of foster homes. PAWS is dedicated to saving the lives of Philadelphia's homeless, abandoned and unwanted animals and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. When you adopt a pet from PAWS you truly save a life! Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring about this pet.
