Posted Breed: Foxhound (short coat). Jethro showed up on our property on July 5th and was not able to defecate. We took him to the vet and they diagnosed him with anal hernias possibly caused by not being neutered. We neutered him and repaired the hernias and he is good as n ew! We even cleaned his teeth. Jethro refuses to bay at adoptions but when he sees an intruder, it is a beautiful sound! Jethro loves to snuggle and is around 10 but in great shape for an old man!

English Foxhound

A.K.A. : Foxhound
Overview: The English foxhound is a medium sized dog with a long muzzle, long shoulders and long straight legs. The feet are small and cat-like and the ears are set low and hang. In some hunting hounds, the tips of the ears are removed (rounded) to avoid injuries during the hunt.
Breed Group: Hound
Weight (lbs): 55-75
Height (in): 23-27
Colors: Any good hound color.
Coat: The coat of the English foxhound is short and glossy, dense and hard.
Character: The English foxhound has a reputation of being an intelligent and brave dog with a pleasant personality. The breed thoroughly enjoys the hunt and can run for hours. When compared to the American foxhound, the English breed is a little slower and stockier.
Temperament: The English Foxhound was originally a pack hound, thus, it gets along well with other dogs and enjoys human companionship. It gets along with horses, children, and other pets, seeing as it is a gentle, social, and tolerant breed.
Care: English Foxhounds need minimal coat care. Occasional rub down the coat with a rough cloth is sufficient.
Training: Firm, no nonsense leadership is required. Obedience training should begin early. The "come" command is the hardest to teach because of scent distraction.
Activity: It is a very active breed that enjoys the hunt. Though it is slower than the American Foxhound it enjoys running and will run all day with very few breaks in between.
Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Health Issue: There are very few health factors in this breed. Occasionally seen are chronic hip dysplasia and renal disease.
Life Expectancy: 10-13 years

More About English Foxhound Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). GO BIG OR GO HOME! If that's your motto, then I'm your dog! I'm Zeus, and I'm a 1-2-year-old, 80 lb. husky/German shepherd mix that some have described as "needing to learn manners" but I prefer to think of as EXUBERANT and FUN-LOVING! I'm really, really excited to meet you to show you what a great boy I am! I love other dogs and could play all day. You will love me; I guarantee it! And if not, don't you have a friend or relative who needs some BIG DOG LOVE?

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Husky (medium coat). Candy came to us with her name. Candy, who would name a dog candy? This is a question I was pondering with my family when my son came up with the answer, because she's sweet as candy and she is soft as cotton candy, and the look in her eyes makes you melt like candy melts in your mouth! All of these seem to fit candy and then I understood. Candy is around two and a lovable Husky maybe shepherd mix. She knows a few basic commands and is learning to be an indoor dog. She is crate trained. Gets along with other dogs with a proper introduction. All she wants to do is lie in your lap and be loved.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Husky (medium coat). Meet Jade! Jade is a beautiful red head 2-3 year old husky that is full of life. She absolutely loves everyone and everything, including other dogs. She has a blast getting to play with her furry foster siblings and enjoys getting to settle in for cuddles at the end of the day. She seems to be completely house broken but has had a few accidents when left home alone. She does have a little separation anxiety though that is probably the cause. She prefers to have someone with her or a furry brother/sister to keep her company. We think with time, patience, a little training and a consistent home she will over come this. Don't miss out on this sweet girl! For more info on Jade please email us at releashedrescue@gmail.com

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Husky (medium coat). Terry here, I know, I know, I need an amazing husky name like...The most amazing husky family ever is out there waiting to give me a new adventure and name with a forever story to tell. I am a total people person who would love to spend my day with my forever family. I'm house trained, loved my sister, Candy, you should check her out, well I think she was my sister, a cool girl nonetheless. I'm super in a crate and even though my cranky foster sister doesn't love me, I'll show her up and be right by your side on what ever adventure you're ready to share with me. It's how I roll and can't wait to join the family waiting for a beautiful brown eyed boy like me. I know that there's a song about the brown eyed girl, but I'm a boy... who cares, it's me, the forever brown eyed boy, love of your life!!

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet King! King came to us when his owner decided he could no longer care for him. He has spent his whole life living in a pen outdoors so everything is new to him. He's still a little on the shy side but is making huge strides in learning to adjust to his new found love and attention. King and Queen are wonderful dogs around 6-7 years. They will take some time to adjust to a new home. They came from an extreme neglect situation and are doing well with me but still skittish around new situations or people. It is amazing how resilient animals are! They were malnourished and living in a pen for years with little human contact. They love other dogs and will play for hours but will wait to come in the door until the coast is clear of humans. They do not love the human touch but will tolerate it and show no aggression when touched, just discomfort. King and Queen will thrive in a calm, quiet household with another dog and lots of love. King and Queen are very bonded and i fear might regress if separated.Come meet King and give him the home that he deserves. For more information: releashedrescue@gmail.com
