Posted Breed: Mastiff / Rottweiler / Mixed. Thank you for your interest in our adoptable animals. If you would like more information about this pet, see the Shelter information below. We would love to help you rescue a perfect pet! Perfect name for a scared little girl who I know will blossom in a new loving home. Like how I did that? :) I saw Blossom transform from a nervous nellie inside the shelter cage into a real flower outside! She let me harness her up easily and the moment we went outside she perked up. An approaching volunteer did nothing but try to say hello to her and Blossom jumped away from him in a quick nervous moment. As we stood there chatting, Blossom found some confidence, approached the same volunteer and she sniffed him. Blossom will need some patience in her new home when it comes to meeting family and friends but once she knows you, she's very friendly and outgoing. To give an example, it took about a minute for her to trust me enough to harness and leash her up. She seemed to take in all the sights and sounds of the outside, looking around but still very cautious about everything. We walked up the street and she was very good on the leash although, like mentioned before, she was very aware of everything around her and she would jump with a loud sound or sudden movement. We went to the barnyard and it was there I saw her true personality. She immediately began to sniff around and then she was running. She took it all in and chased tennis balls when she saw me holding one up but her apprehensiveness would come out and she would come back to me for reassurance. Throwing another tennis ball got her running around again and then, like a broken record, she was back to me for approval. Blossom really loves her people and once she gets used to her new environment, I'm sure she will totally come out of her shell to trust her new family and relax. I saw her starting to transform in that yard. She even started jumping to get the balls! She looked like she was having so much fun! A new family who will have patience to give her time to adjust to any new situations or people but who will offer her the opportunity to experience new things with daily exercise and playtime would be perfect for our pretty brindle Blossom. I tried to get some photos to show off just how pretty her coloring is but seeing her in the sunlight in person is the way to go. Blossom was not too interested in treats or doing commands but when she did come to me, she would lean on me for some love. Blossom came to us when her owner went to college and could not take Blossom with her. Blossom's previous owner gave us lots of information. They had her since she was a puppy. Her birthday is February 2, 2012 and she is house trained. We are told they are unsure how she feels about other dogs but that she has been around them but never off leash. We are not sure how she does around cats and as for kids, she has been around children as young as 5 yrs old. After spending some time with Blossom, I'm guessing she would be fine around older respectful children only. Her previous owner tells us Blossom doesn't bark, except when someone comes to the door. We are told she will growl if you approach her while she's eating and that she does fine when given a bath. She has been left to roam free when home alone as well. Blossom is already spayed and ready to find her new home. She is currently waiting in the back for a spot in adoption so if you don't see her, please just ask to meet her! Her id number is 1702-1527. We would love to help you rescue a perfect pet! Hey! Have you met Warren Barkett!???? Warren is the guy that is going to give you the BEST of BOTH WORLDS! He is ready to nap with you and then romp with you out in the yard until ya'll are tired enough to nap again! That's our Warren Barkett. * He is a BIG dude and quite a "head turner" everytime any of us take him out for a walk! He is definitely a shelter fave. He is a mature rottweiler/mastiff mix of about 90 pounds. He's got th e most gentle soulful eyes you will ever see. He came in as a stray and he was really scared at first. He's since then, learned that the shelter is his home for now, and he will come up, say hello and take a treat if you have one to offer him. For some of us, he will let us know he is ready for his walk too! He is pretty great and we love this boy! * He is a DREAM on the LEASH! He's house trained and he's got moves that will put dogs half his age to shame! You just have to see him to believe it and while you're watching get a load of all the happy wiggles and tail wags that are going on too! Warren loves to be outside whether he is playing, laying in the sun, shade, he is always ready to hang out. If you have a home without tiny kids (he's shown us he is a little touch sensitive around his head/back area) and you are looking for an easy going boy to share your life and home with then please stop by Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center at 341 S Birdneck Road. Ask to meet Warren (ID# 1601-0435) at the front and we will bring him out to say hello! One more thing, we haven't had him out playing with other dogs, but he's been well behaved when being walked around other dogs, so if you have a dog at home please bring them along as well to make sure they want to be friends. Thank you for reading about this charming gent and feel free to share him with all your friends! Virginia Beach Animal Care & Adoption Center has wonderful pets available for adoption.
