Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Bolt! This boy is super fun and outgoing. He loves being in the spotlight and has plenty of energy to go around. Although his attention span seems short, he is smart and eager to please. He will work for treats but praise and attention are just as important to him! Shepherd lovers already know Bolt''s play style- he is talkative and rowdy, but typically listens to corrections. Bolt''s favorite friend at the shelter is a male bulldog mix who shares his rough-and-tumble playstyle! Bolt will thrive in his new home with structure and an outlet for his energy. Give him a job to do and he will work hard!

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Australian Shepherd-Boxer Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Meet Lucy! She''s housebroken, a great leash walker, and lived with kids between 10 and 16. She loves to go on walks and hikes! She is very responsive to treats and positive reinforcement! Some of the words she knows are sit, shake, and lay down. She communicates well and can be a bit shy with new people. She warms up quickly to people and is a very loving and affectionate dog. She can be mischievous if food is left out and no one is around, but otherwise is very mellow inside. She is selective on which animals she gets along with and will do well as the only animal in a home. Lucy will make a great companion so come visit her and make her day!

She is potty trained and trusted loose indoors unsupervised. Deja also gets along with other dogs- though she doesn''t realize her size and can overwhelm some pups, so a meet and greet with resident dogs is required for this special lady. She seems housebroken and is eager to make new friends. She is gaining confidence at the shelter and would do best in a home with older kids due to her activity level. She can be easily swooned with some treats and affection! She loves belly rubs and flips over for some love. She is a `people person` and loves spending time with people. Jillaroo will thrive with structure and activities to do at home- walks, playtime, puzzle toys... she''s game if you are! You can see a video of her playtime here too- what fun!

      CRUZ

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Flat-coated Retriever (medium coat). Cruz is the name! I am a 9 year old NM Flat Coat/Springer mix. I was surrendered to the shelter by my family of 9 years in March 2017. I was used to living in a home with one of my litter mates until he passed away. I was also used to living in a home with young children but due to my aging body and arthritis, I no longer enjoyed being laid on or messed with by the kids. So, let''s start with the good. I am super potty trained and walk perfectly on leash. Though my legs are a little shaky, I still have a nice pep in my step and will climb right in your lap for some attention and affection. I am trusted loose indoors unsupervised and will always greet you with my giant submissive smile. I am very tolerant with baths, love me a good brushing, and have quiet the personality. So, the not so good. I''ve gotten a little pickier in my older age and prefer me a mellow home with no young kids and no other animals. Though I usually always ignore other animals, I don''t want to share my home with one. I love people so much that I really just want to live out my golden years with my person. I will also need to be on some pain management medicine for the remainder of my life. I know I am not the easiest dog to place but everyone who has met me said I was worth saving and if you give me a chance, then I think you will realize that too. So to sum me up - Handsome older male seeking a mature and mellow household where I will be the center of attention. I like romantic cuddle sessions on the sofa and enjoy snacking on hotdogs. A human partner who enjoys couches and hotdogs is preferred. If you do I would like to be your life partner! **BECAUSE CRUZ IS A SPECIAL CASE, HE CAN ONLY BE ADOPTED OUT THROUGH A RESCUE. OUR GREAT PARTNERS, THE GOOD DOG RESCUE IS WILLING TO DO THE ADOPTION IF WE CAN FIND CRUZ THE RIGHT FIT. HE CAN BE VISITED WITH AT ADAMS COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER CURRENTLY AND AVAILABLE TO MEET AS LONG AS ANY INTERESTED PARTIES MEET ALL HIS REQUIREMENTS** https://petsforpatriots.org/forget-me-not/cruz-co/ Check out some some cute Cruz videos below!

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Ethel (A118104) and Edna (A118103) here. We were brought to the shelter because we were abandoned by our previous owner. They shelter staff doesn''t know much about our past but they do know that we are VERY attached to eachother so us sweet senior ladies are a package deal. We are easy going girls and never wonder too far away from one another. We have had no issues sharing a kennel together, food, and toys/blankets. We walk nicely on leash together. Ethel is pretty mellow and easy going and enjoys relaxing. Edna still has a little more spunk to her and tries to play with Ethel on occasion or can be found carefully watching over her and looking out for her. They take a little bit to warm up to new people at first. From inside their kennel, they will both alert bark at you initially but they warm up quickly with gently coaxing and yummy treats. They have no issues meeting people when they are outside their kennel and are much more relaxed. Both girls would do best in a calm and mellow household that doesn''t have a ton of stairs. They also have done very well in playgroup with other small and large easy going/mellow dogs. Here is a cute video of Ethel and Edna hanging out with some of their shelter dog friends!! Ethel is Edna''s mom which could explain their very tight bond!
