Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Bolt! This boy is super fun and outgoing. He loves being in the spotlight and has plenty of energy to go around. Although his attention span seems short, he is smart and eager to please. He will work for treats but praise and attention are just as important to him! Shepherd lovers already know Bolt''s play style- he is talkative and rowdy, but typically listens to corrections. Bolt''s favorite friend at the shelter is a male bulldog mix who shares his rough-and-tumble playstyle! Bolt will thrive in his new home with structure and an outlet for his energy. Give him a job to do and he will work hard!

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). This dog was part of a large group of dogs that were removed from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. Conditions at the facility were poor and very little medical attention or socialization were able to be provided. Most of these animals were living in outdoor pens for long periods of time. They may require more behavioral help adjusting to a new home. These dogs will most likely need to be potty trained and/or crate trained and will need a calm and patient owner who will help them adjust to life as an inside dog. HOMING RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Owner willing to provide socialization with people, other dogs, and/or work with environmental fears-expect fearful behavior in new situations. 2. Recommend a quiet household with no small children.

      Breed: Chihuahua

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). Bear and Bella were a part of a massive group of dogs that was brought to Colorado from Texas from a very overcrowded shelter. Almost all of the dogs from the Texas shelter were in need of some sort of medical care, some have mild to moderate fear, and many have never walked on a leash before. The majority of them were also used to sharing a kennel with 4+ other dogs with little socialization and poor living conditions. These dogs will most likely need to be potty trained and/or crate trained and will need a calm and patient owner who will help them adjust to life as an inside dog. Bear and Bella are a bonded pair. Bella is a little more confident and social than Bear. Bear is very protective over Bella and is pretty shut down without her. They both can be a little sensitive to handling and prefer slow and proper intros with new people. They really warm up once they are comfortable with you. The two love to play and rough house together. They also really enjoy curling up in blankets, hiding under covers, and comfy dog beds. Bonded pair. Would do best in a mature and mellow household without young children.

He is also the perfect Netflix and Chill buddy! Though Drew has a history of living with children, small dogs and cats, we are suggesting that he is the only dog in the home since he is having a hard time sharing his resources. Drew walks great on leash, is potty trained, and trusted loose indoors unsupervised. This guy is trulty a catch! VIDEO COMING SOON.

She seems housebroken and is eager to make new friends. She is gaining confidence at the shelter and would do best in a home with older kids due to her activity level. She can be easily swooned with some treats and affection! She loves belly rubs and flips over for some love. She is a `people person` and loves spending time with people. Jillaroo will thrive with structure and activities to do at home- walks, playtime, puzzle toys... she''s game if you are! You can see a video of her playtime here too- what fun!

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Mila is the name! With a face like this, how can you go wrong?! I was surrendered to the shelter due to no fault of my own. I am potty trained and trusted loose indoors unsupervised for up to 8 hours. I love to play with toys and have a lot of personality. I know some basic commands and am very eager to learn and please. I bond quickly to people I can trust but I am still pretty unsure about meeting new people initially. I need slow and controlled introductions with new people. Give me a chance to warm up on my own time and I will be your new best friend. I am looking for a calm and gentle owner who will help build my trust and confidence using positive reinforcement only. I would do best with a family that was able to spend the time with me and give me daily exercise. I would make a great running buddy or adventurous companion!
