Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Bolt! This boy is super fun and outgoing. He loves being in the spotlight and has plenty of energy to go around. Although his attention span seems short, he is smart and eager to please. He will work for treats but praise and attention are just as important to him! Shepherd lovers already know Bolt''s play style- he is talkative and rowdy, but typically listens to corrections. Bolt''s favorite friend at the shelter is a male bulldog mix who shares his rough-and-tumble playstyle! Bolt will thrive in his new home with structure and an outlet for his energy. Give him a job to do and he will work hard!

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

He really enjoys being pampered and is very tolerant of playing dress-up with cute outfits and coats for winter weather. This little guy is too much! rescue
      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). I''m June! I am soft and sweet like a summer day. My friend Johnny and I were found together and brought to the shelter for care. I''m on the shy and sensitive side and would benefit from a mellow, consistent family. Once I make friends, I am affectionate and thrive on attention… you will likely get some hugs and kisses too! I seem to prefer human friends over canine friends so bring your dog in to meet me before adoption! I can''t wait to learn and grow in my new happy family. Let''s make it a great new year! CAT TEST: We cat tested June, entered the room very nervous. When she approached the cat she froze while cat was just staring at her. She began to growl and bark at the cat, the cat then aggressed and we pulled June away. I would say she should not live with a cat. KW

      BELLO

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Bello here! I''m a mature gent that still has a nice little spunk! I walk great on leash and enjoy playing with other semi-playful dogs. I have a history of living with other animals and mature children. I am crate trained and walk perfectly on leash. I shine brightest outside of my kennel- ask for a visit! I''m not clingy or needy, but I''ll nudge you for a nice head rub or some treats. I am attentive to my humans and people love my mellow, even-keeled demeanor. It does take me a little while to warm up to new people so I am looking for a dog-savvy owner who will always make sure I have proper intros with new people and who will also give me time to warm up to my new family. Slow and steady is best for me! I am a bit painful in my hips/rear and do not like to be handled much there. I would benefit from a quality diet and continued pain meds for my arthritis throughout the remainder of my life. I would love to live out the remainder of my years as a spoiled, inside dog! I''ll be your steady sidekick- see you soon!

      ANGIE

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Angie is currently in FOSTER CARE. Please call the Adams County Animal Shelter at 303.288.3294 or email jbishopp@adcogov.org for more information about Angie. Sweet and gentle Angie is coming out of her shell in her foster home. Her crate is her `safe space` and she enjoys going into and out of her crate during the day. She hasn''t had any trouble going potty outside with regular bathroom breaks. During chill time with her foster family, she likes to sit at her foster parents'' feet and get gentle pets on her head. Angie loves other dogs and enjoys running zoomies with her dog pals in the morning. Angie was part of a large group of dogs that were removed from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. Conditions at the facility were poor and very little medical attention or socialization were able to be provided. Most of these animals were living in outdoor pens for long periods of time. They may require more behavioral help adjusting to a new home. These dogs will most likely need to be potty trained and/or crate trained and will need a calm and patient owner who will help them adjust to life as an inside dog. HOMING RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Owner willing to provide socialization with people, other dogs, and/or work with environmental fears-expect fearful behavior in new situations. 2. Recommend a quiet household with no small children.

      CHUNK

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Queensland Heeler (short coat). Chunk is currently in FOSTER CARE. Please email jbishopp@adcogov.org for more information about Chunk. Meet Chunk! Chunk is a special boy who bonds very strongly to one person, preferably a female. He loves his foster mom and smothers her with hugs and kisses whenever he sees her. He''s a fun dog too - he plays frisbee (and politely hands it back to you to throw again), fetch, and loves to kick around a soccer ball. He walks nicely on leash, and will lead you to where the leashes hang when he wants to go for a walk. He loves other dogs, is very respectful and plays nicely with them. He is crate trained, rides nicely in a car and is so so smart! Chunk would do best in a quiet home with an experienced cattle dog owner. He should not live with children, and should be crated when new people come over to the house. He would benefit from living with a social, confident dog, but would also be ok as a single dog. Chunk has a huge heart and would walk through fire for his foster mama, but still finds other people to be a bit scary. He would benefit from an owner who is willing to `date` him and meet him a few times prior to adoption.

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). `Hi! Hi! Hi! Hi!` `Play? Play? Food? Play?` …it''s pretty easy to interpret what Jet is talking about! Jet is loyal, affectionate, and energetic. He may make a great hunting companion- or at least a great camping/hiking buddy! Jet is house trained and sleeps great, especially if he gets to cuddle with his family. Jet LOVES `Purina Busy Chewnola` chew treats. Jet is working through some separation anxiety and an experienced/trainable owner would be best. Jet has lived with another dog before and seems to have great dog social skills here at the shelter too! Jet is not compatible with small animals. He would be thrilled to meet you and at least take a walk with a new friend. He says, `See you soon!`
