Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Bolt! This boy is super fun and outgoing. He loves being in the spotlight and has plenty of energy to go around. Although his attention span seems short, he is smart and eager to please. He will work for treats but praise and attention are just as important to him! Shepherd lovers already know Bolt''s play style- he is talkative and rowdy, but typically listens to corrections. Bolt''s favorite friend at the shelter is a male bulldog mix who shares his rough-and-tumble playstyle! Bolt will thrive in his new home with structure and an outlet for his energy. Give him a job to do and he will work hard!

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Brighton, CO
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Sadie! What a gal. She is polite and sweet and loves attention. She even came to the shelter with her nails painted! Sadie generally has a very nice play style with other dogs- she''s tolerant and loves to run and play. That''s a great way to help her burn off some energy. Sadie is a good listener and would thrive with a family she can play with and also trust for guidance and structure. If you''re looking for a smart girl who will make you smile, Sadie is all yours! Sadie was adopted and lived successfully in an apartment for the last couple months. Sadie plays a bit rough and does better with some dogs over others. She likes to hump some and can be rude and pushy which could easily lead to an altercation if not properly managed. She is respectful of other dogs corrections and does back off when the other dog tells her. She is housebroken and will potty on a leash when taken outside! Smart girl! Here is a video of Sadie playing with her shelter buddy, Alikay

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Ethel (A118104) and Edna (A118103) here. We were brought to the shelter because we were abandoned by our previous owner. They shelter staff doesn''t know much about our past but they do know that we are VERY attached to eachother so us sweet senior ladies are a package deal. We are easy going girls and never wonder too far away from one another. We have had no issues sharing a kennel together, food, and toys/blankets. We walk nicely on leash together. Ethel is pretty mellow and easy going and enjoys relaxing. Edna still has a little more spunk to her and tries to play with Ethel on occasion or can be found carefully watching over her and looking out for her. They take a little bit to warm up to new people at first. From inside their kennel, they will both alert bark at you initially but they warm up quickly with gently coaxing and yummy treats. They have no issues meeting people when they are outside their kennel and are much more relaxed. Both girls would do best in a calm and mellow household that doesn''t have a ton of stairs. They also have done very well in playgroup with other small and large easy going/mellow dogs. Here is a cute video of Ethel and Edna hanging out with some of their shelter dog friends!!
