Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Bolt! This boy is super fun and outgoing. He loves being in the spotlight and has plenty of energy to go around. Although his attention span seems short, he is smart and eager to please. He will work for treats but praise and attention are just as important to him! Shepherd lovers already know Bolt''s play style- he is talkative and rowdy, but typically listens to corrections. Bolt''s favorite friend at the shelter is a male bulldog mix who shares his rough-and-tumble playstyle! Bolt will thrive in his new home with structure and an outlet for his energy. Give him a job to do and he will work hard!

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Antonio is currently in FOSTER CARE. Please email jbishopp@adcogov.org for more information on how to meet Antonio. High five! I''m Antonio! I''m looking for a new job as a personal trainer or couch potato. Yes, I am great at both! With muscles like these, I''d benefit from daily exercise (who wouldn''t!) and playtime. But downtime is important too so I can practice other skills- like Kong chewing and stuffed toy de-stuffing. My favorite toys are `Jolly Ball` toys, black `Kong` balls, tires, and the rubber `Chuck It` balls. I use an Easy Walk harness at the shelter and am making progress on my walking skills. One of my favorite games is to see how fast I can squeak a squeaky toy! My shelter friends recommend I meet any dogs you already have before I go home. I tend to give (really big) kisses (all over), so prepare to meet your happy new family member!

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Mila is the name! With a face like this, how can you go wrong?! I was surrendered to the shelter due to no fault of my own. I am potty trained and trusted loose indoors unsupervised for up to 8 hours. I love to play with toys and have a lot of personality. I know some basic commands and am very eager to learn and please. I bond quickly to people I can trust but I am still pretty unsure about meeting new people initially. I need slow and controlled introductions with new people. Give me a chance to warm up on my own time and I will be your new best friend. I am looking for a calm and gentle owner who will help build my trust and confidence using positive reinforcement only. I would do best with a family that was able to spend the time with me and give me daily exercise. I would make a great running buddy or adventurous companion! Breed: Boxer-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Weber! Weber came to she shelter as a stray. He was shy at first, but is making new friends and gaining confidence every day! He is one you absolutely need to visit with from outside his kennel to see his true personality come to life. He''s got this long, leggy, runway model strut when he walks- he''s sure to turn heads when you''re out and about together! Like any puppy, he is still learning boundaries, so someone familiar with large dogs would be beneficial. It''s hilarious to watch him with squeaky toys… the debate is whether he''s having more fun with the toy or it''s more fun to watch him play with it! He does well with the other dogs he''s met at the shelter too. Weber would love to meet you, come see him soon!
