Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). ********************THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING. THIS RESCUE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS DOG AND CANNOT ANSWER QUESTIONS.************************************************ Elsa (Snow) was dumped at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control by her owners on July 5, 2016. Her weight at that time was 94 lbs. She is now 72 lbs. This beautiful and loving girl was in boarding for a few months then adopted to what would have been the most amazing forever home for her. Unfortunately, her new daddy had a heart attack, is in the hospital and not doing well. He will no longer be able to care for Elsa and has returned her. Elsa is fully vetted, spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped and heartworm negative. She is healthy other than degenerative hip disease. Foster mom has placed Elsa on weight management food to assist with losing weight to reduce stress on her hips. Elsa has lost some weight but still has more to go. She is housebroken, good on leash/in car/with people (a little shy when first meeting strangers), good with small dogs, not concerned with cats, ok with large dogs as long as they are calm and not dominant. Please open your heart and home to this amazing girl who just wants to be by her humans side and loved. Elsa is a couch potato however does like to go for walks and play. A large fenced in yard would be wonderful, or someone who loves to take long walks. Please contact JoAnn 561-313-2005 or joann@destinyfordogs.com. More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Baby Bella

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Bella is a 16 month old female GSD. She is very high energy and is always on the go. Bella is small (50 pounds) but very agile and quick. She has had some basic obedience training but needs a very experienced GSD owner. This is NOT a dog for the first time GSD owner. She is going to need an owner that is willing to spend time with a certified trainer experienced with GSDs to help her overcome some of her behavior issues such as resource guarding and dog aggression on leash and provide the daily exercise she needs to work off her energy. Bella is very smart and will take advantage of an owner that is not GSD savvy. Bella is house broken, crate trained, and uses the dog door with no issues. She is very loving and sweet to her people but is very protective of her home and property. She does live with several dogs in rescue but would be happiest as an only dog. Because of her strong personality, she will not be adopted into a home with children or small animals. If you want to meet Baby Bella then go to our website www.GSRFL.org and complete the Adoption Application. Once you are approved then you can setup a meet and greet. Questions?
