Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi! My name is Sig, but you can call me Siggy! My foster parents didn't think my name through when they brought me home; when you call "Sig", I will sit down because it sounds so much like the word "Sit".... Anyway! I will be three years on this Valentine's Day and am rather petite for a male German Shepherd, I only weight about 60 pounds. My previous owner surrendered me because of their living situation. They said that I became aggressive towards men, that I was questionable around kids, and that I had separation anxiety. Well, I do have a little separation anxiety, but my foster family has been great in helping me understand that crates aren't bad and that it's ok if I spend time by myself. My foster mom does believe I would do better in an airline style crate verses a wire crate. I enjoy being around other dogs, big and small. But I can demonstrate dominant behaviors at times, so it's important that I get adopted by a family that will put me in check when I get too rowdy with other dogs. As far as being aggressive with men, I do well with everyone I meet! I was sitting in my foster dad's lap within 20 minutes of being in my foster home. I do live with an eight year old tiny human, and we get along really well. She throws the ball for me, pets me, and sometimes gives me treats. It is important that I get a proper introduction with new people though. Like most people, I don't enjoy strangers coming up to me and putting their hands all up in my face. I am also a Velcro dog, through and through. I want to be where my foster family is, whether it's in the laundry room, licking the dirty dishes in the dishwasher as my foster mom loads them, or just laying on the floor while my peeps watch TV. Sig is being fostered in Virginia Beach, VA. If you think Sig would complete your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. Or if you’re in our adoption territory of VA, NC or MD, you can complete an application at www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Meet Avalon (Ava for short). This gorgeous- medium sized girl went through some trauma in her past and, as a result, lost one of her legs. She does not let that slow her down and is complete mobile. In fact, many people don’t even realize she is missing a leg. She is completely unfazed by being a tripod! Ava is looking for a stable home environment where she can relax and simply be a great family companion. She has gone through professional obedience training, is very well mannered in the home, crate trained, and overall a very easy keeper. Ava loves her people and would prefer an adult home where there isn’t a lot of change or expectations of being a social butterfly in her surrounding neighborhood. It takes her some time to warm up to new people, but if introductions are done properly, she can make some friends. She is naturally protective of her home and yard but does listen well when you are satisfied with her alerts. Avalon is a wonderful dog and is looking for her special family to enjoy living the good life with. If you are interested in adopting Ava, you can contact your adoption coordinator or complete an application at our website, www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com (be sure to read the FAQ section). Ava is being fostered in Chesapeake, VA. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Breed: German Shepherd Dog

    Location: Morrisville, NC
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi my name is Sparta and I am a 70 pound 5 year old German Shepherd and I exist to please people! I am so interested in pleasing my people, that I listen to what my people say and take verbal corrections very well. When you do correct me, I will respond with very sad face because I realize that I did not please you. I am looking for a furever home that has balls and toys cause I like them a lot. I like people more than toys, but then a people with toy is as good as it gets! I have lived with another male GSD and a dog savvy cat; I like my foster brother a lot, but to be real honest, the cat is a little scary. They also had two guinea pigs that I played with under supervision. I currently live with a toddler, whom I absolutely love, but have a bad habit of knocking over because I'm not aware of my size. I think older kids would be great! So here is my story. I got picked up by these people in a truck that said “Animal Control” on the side. They took me to this scary place that had no people to follow around! It was pretty boring cause it was not that big and I could not get my exercise. Worse yet, I had NO toys. One day this cute blonde lady came to meet with a friend and introduced be to a couple of other dogs. I did very well with them, but the best part was she brought a ball with her! I loved playing ball with her. I did not even mind that they were doing assessment videos whatever those are. She told me that she was going to e-mail them to her friends at SGSR and they must have been good because she came back two days later and told me I was now an SGSR dog. Since she had a ball with her I figured this could only be a really good thing and we left that scary place. I next went to a foster home and this place was full of toys. Being in a foster home is great! I could stay here forever, but my Foster mom says I need a Furever Home. Do Furever homes have toys? If they do, I am interested in finding one. Speaking of finding something, my mom thinks I would be a great Search & Rescue dog. My high ball drive, desire to please people and the fact that my nose is always working are a great trifecta. I also love to run with my foster mom, so I have the energy to look for something for a very long time! My foster mom took me to a doctor because I had burn on my leg. The doctor and my foster mom think I got tangled up in some rope when I was on my own. I got laser treatments and it is healing now. It does not hurt, or slow me down one bit. I like other dogs, but can be a little rough so a proper introduction like a pack walk and initial supervision are needed. Because I am all about pleasing you, a harsh tone to your voice will redirect me to more gentle play. I am being foster in the Raleigh area. If you have toys, will you fill out an application and call your adoption coordinator? Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi, I'm Bono and I am 15 months old. I’m up to date on all my shots and preventives, and I’m neutered. I'm also house trained! I’m friendly with other animals and love all sizes of dogs. My foster sister says I'm handsome and lots of fun to play with! We like to play tug of war with old rags and tree branches. My two little foster brothers let me know if I get too playful, but we all share our food bowls at meal times. We also share our toys and Bene-bones. I love going on roadtrips (though I prefer to jump in through the tailgate, as I can be too big for the side doors of some cars) and get so excited when my foster humans return home. I like following my foster mom up the stairs, I nap wherever she is, and I always wait for her to go to bed at night. I need leash training, as I still want to pull you along when we go for walks. I cannot be trusted off the leash yet. I know some good command words like SIT, OFF, DOWN, OUT, MOVE, OUTSIDE, COME, BYE-BYE, etc. I like to show affection by nuzzling your face and nudging your body as we walk and play. My foster mom says I am a happy & sweet boy that would be a great companion and watch dog for my forever family. I had an accident as a puppy that damaged my right front paw. I only have one toe left on my paw that's different than the other, but it doesn't hurt. Sometimes my foster mom says I don't know when to stop playing! I love kids, but I am 66 lbs of excitable playmate, and may be too much for little ones right now. I love chasing birds and squirrels and am curious about cats, but I’m not sure how I respond to indoor cats yet. I love my crate and my bed; I have one downstairs and one upstairs. I hope to meet my new forever human family soon!! Bono is being fostered in Chesapeake, VA. If you think he would complete your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. UPDATED BIO: Hi! I’m Charlie! You might have seen me here before, about a year ago I was adopted with my brother but in the end my new parents were unable to care for us both. I’m back with my original foster mom and she says I am still the same sweet, playful and loving dog that she remembers! I can’t decide which I love more - playing with my foster brother (an SGSR alum) or snuggling with my foster mom. Foster mom says I would do really well with a family who wants to shower me with attention or one who has another dog for me to play with. I might be a little shy when I first meet you, but don’t worry, that wears off quickly. My foster brother is an alpha male and foster mom says he helps keep me in line and shows me the ropes. I like to push his buttons but roll over and show my belly as soon as he makes a move. I also live with a female SGSR alum, but she thinks she’s hot stuff and only pays attention to me when I have food left over in my bowl and wants to steal it! I also live with three dog savvy cats. In my previous home, I lived with kids and did great with them. Since I am still young (about a year and a half) foster mom says she would really like for my adopter to engage me in some training, since it will help me be the best dog I can be! I already know how to sit and will do it if foster mom asks, even under distractions. I also comes when she calls my name and I respond very well to verbal correction. I am house trained, crate trained, and haven’t chewed on anything I’m not supposed to so far. I am very treat motivated. Foster mom says I’m a GSD mix, since I am on the smaller side at 55 lbs and have a touch of white on my chest. I also have a cute curly, fluffy tail. She tells me I have one of the softest, silkiest coats - she knows this because she pets me all the time! I am a snuggle bug! If you would like to meet me, please let your adoption coordinator know. I am being fostered in Hillsborough, NC. Previous Bio: ~~Hi SGSR world, I'm Charlie! I was roaming the streets with my brother Levi, just trying to get by, when Animal Control picked us up and took us to a local shelter. We were so nervous at that place, but luckily a really nice volunteer from SGSR helped us bust out of there! Now we are living the good life in our foster home, hanging out with two SGSR alums and a few kitty cats. I would love to find a forever home with my brother Levi, but if not, at least a home where I can get lots of attention! I am approximately 7 months old, 45 lbs, and a whole lotta puppy love. I get along with other dogs big and small, people of all ages, and even the kitties. Though since I am so young and playful, I might chase them if they run. But foster mom says I correct very easily. My favorite things are snuggling with my foster mom, romping around in the yard with my brother, and learning new commands (mostly because I get treats - yum!) Even though I lived outside most of my life, I am learning that it's the only acceptable place to go to the bathroom. As long as foster mom takes me out often, I am pretty good about going where I should. I can make it through the night too, as long as I eat and drink on schedule, and foster mom doesn't get too lazy and sleep in! I'm a very happy, goofy pup and foster mom says that everyone who meets me thinks I am SO adorable. I'm super soft and fuzzy, and people just love to pet me. When I first got to foster mom's house, I didn't know what a leash was and it frightened me a bit. But now I know it means I get to go outside with the big dogs! I even walk well on a leash now, and foster mom doesn't even have to use the harness any more. Man I wish I could go off leash with the others though, I love good game of chase. Foster mom says a big back yard and another dog to play with would be so perfect for me. If you'd like to meet me, please let your adoption coordinator know. I am being fostered in Hillsborough, NC with Levi. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. ~ Hello everyone, this is our beautiful all black 3.5 year old foster girl Zena. She came to us as an owner surrender due to them moving and not being able to take her with them. We are very glad that the family found SGSR to rehome her because she’s a sweetheart. Zena weighs about 60 lbs and is all about cuddling and licking. Zena is a sweetheart (we can't say it enough!) and has particularly taken to the man of the house but when he’s not around, she shows love to anyone that will give her attention. Zena is great with our 6 year old son; they play all the time and she has not had 1 instance of aggression. Zena is somewhat housebroken with a few occasional accidents but is learning where to appropriately use the restroom. The family she came from said she was crate trained but she is allowed her to free roam the house when we are gone and while we are sleeping. Zena cannot be trusted off leash right now as she tends to explore on her own, ignoring the calls for her to come back the two times she got out. She knows her name but there's just so much to see in her new environment! Zena absolutely loves to lick and kiss you. She also loves to cuddle on the couch and will lay there for days with you if you let her. Zena has grown to love and play with our 4 year old GSD who is about the same size. We don’t know how she acts around bigger dogs but her previous family had 3 other dogs, 1 GSD and 2 labs. We also don’t really know how to reacts to smaller dogs and cats as she has only barked at the ones she has come across. Zena does an excellent job riding in the car and walks well on a leash. Zena has minimal behavior issues and is overall very healthy with being up to date on all her shots. If you think you could be Zena's furever family, please work with your adoption coordinator. If you don't have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com. Zena is being fostered near Charlotte, NC. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .

Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. ~~Hi, I am Chaos and am 4 years old. I received my name from all the chaos I have experienced in my young life. When Southeast saved me I had just made my way to the shelter after roaming around on my own for a while. I was 10 pounds underweight and wasn't feeling well but now I am healthy and putting weight on. I live with my foster parents, a human brother, and a fur-sister, who is also a German Shepherd. I get along with human brother just as if he was a fur sibling. I love my fur sister and I am very submissive. I am still skittish when I meet new people and take several encounters to get comfortable with them but other dogs bring me out of my shell more quickly. If I see you petting another dog I will approach for attention even if it is the first time I meet you, but won't push the other dog out of the way. I would be better in a home with another fur sibling as I take many of my social cues from them. I am crate trained, if my fur sibling is also crated, and I can see them. If I can't see them I am a magician, escape my crate, and go looking for them. If I am left out of my crate, I behave myself, especially since I'm housebroken. You will find me either laying with my fur-siblings or laying in a nice corner curled up until my foster parents come home. At night I sleep on the floor right next my parents' bed. I am looking for a family that can take me in and give me a forever home. In exchange, I promise to be well behaved and give you my eternal love and devotion. If you feel you are the right family for me, please fill out an application at southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com or work with your adoption coordinator. I am being fostered near Fayetteville, NC. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi my name is Bella. I am two and half years old and all puppy! I came to live with my foster dad due to a really rough start in life. For the first two years I lived with my brother outside in a small kennel. On rare occasions we were allowed out in the back yard but we were mostly confined in that kennel. My previous owner was not a nice man. As a matter of fact he was down right evil. When my brother and I barked or got too rambunctious we were severely beaten. We really didn't mean too but acting out was our way of self entertainment because we were bored from a lack of socialization and exercise. As the beatings continued the lady next door heard our cries and called the police. Nothing was done at first so it took six more tries and a video to help stop the life of misery for us. That neighbor is our angel and saved us from a life of hell! We became unwilling news celebrities when the news media and police showed up to arrest the bad man that had us. Things really didn't get much better because we spent 6 long months confined again at the animal shelter until the judge said the bad man couldn't have us back. Thank goodness for that! Four days after the ruling we were release to start a new life. A group of wonderful people took me on my freedom ride from Virginia to my foster in North Carolina. Once there I was was given plenty of good food, exercise and most importantly I got to live inside a warm and comfortable loving home for the first time in my life! Right away my foster dad taught me to wait to go potty outside, basic manners and how to walk nicely on a leash. I am loving my new accommodations but my foster dad said soon I need go to my forever new family. My dream is to be with an active person or family that can continue to nurture and guide me to become the perfect dog. I do need a large fenced yard to run and play fetch in. It is my most favorite thing to do on earth. I would like my new home to have a furry brother like I did before to play with. I am very active and need daily exercise so I also would make an excellent running partner. I have so much more love and appreciation to give and if you don't believe me just ask my foster dad. If you think you can offer me my furever home, please work with your adoption coordinator. If you are not yet approved to adopt but are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application at southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com. I'm being fostered in Charlo tte, NC.
