Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. ~~ Greetings, my name is Zenith . I am a 3-1/2 year old German Shepherd male dog. My original owner passed away leaving me in the care of some elderly family members who took good care of me, but were unable to give me the attention I needed. For the past year I have been in a foster home. All my vetting needs have been checked and updated and I was neutered. I have adjusted well. My house manners are excellent. I love to ride in vehicles and enjoy being left alone in my outside pen when my foster parents are busy at home. My favorite thing is to fetch. I will fetch anything you throw, but a Frisbee is my favorite. I like to walk, especially in the woods. I have a very high prey instinct and will chase anything that runs away from me including squirrels, rabbits, cats, deer, and even snakes. I am protective of my territory and of my family and I do not welcome uninvited guests coming into my home, but I'm okay once I know they are well intentioned. I have not had much social interaction, but seem to do well in public unless approached too quickly. I would prefer a home without cats, small dogs or small children. I would probably do well living on a farm or in the country. Can you give me a forever home and family? I'm currently being fostered in Elkton VA Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi! My name is Sig, but you can call me Siggy! My foster parents didn't think my name through when they brought me home; when you call "Sig", I will sit down because it sounds so much like the word "Sit".... Anyway! I will be three years on this Valentine's Day and am rather petite for a male German Shepherd, I only weight about 60 pounds. My previous owner surrendered me because of their living situation. They said that I became aggressive towards men, that I was questionable around kids, and that I had separation anxiety. Well, I do have a little separation anxiety, but my foster family has been great in helping me understand that crates aren't bad and that it's ok if I spend time by myself. My foster mom does believe I would do better in an airline style crate verses a wire crate. I enjoy being around other dogs, big and small. But I can demonstrate dominant behaviors at times, so it's important that I get adopted by a family that will put me in check when I get too rowdy with other dogs. As far as being aggressive with men, I do well with everyone I meet! I was sitting in my foster dad's lap within 20 minutes of being in my foster home. I do live with an eight year old tiny human, and we get along really well. She throws the ball for me, pets me, and sometimes gives me treats. It is important that I get a proper introduction with new people though. Like most people, I don't enjoy strangers coming up to me and putting their hands all up in my face. I am also a Velcro dog, through and through. I want to be where my foster family is, whether it's in the laundry room, licking the dirty dishes in the dishwasher as my foster mom loads them, or just laying on the floor while my peeps watch TV. Sig is being fostered in Chesapeake, VA. If you think Sig would complete your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. Or if you’re in our adoption territory of VA, NC or MD, you can complete an application at www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi there! Bonita is my name and chasing tennis balls is my game! I am a 6 year old, solid black, gorgeous, female GSD. My original owner purchased me from a breeder but had to find me a new home due to financial hardships. I am about 82 lbs and very athletic. I love to go on car rides and walks/runs every opportunity that I get. I’m very protective of my house and will alert to strange noises or people. No cats or small dogs for me but I love to play with medium to large dogs. I would be happy to have older children in my forever home but no young children please...I'm afraid of them. I love to chase (especially tennis balls), toys, cats, squirrels, lights ...just about anything that moves. I have been working on my confidence since I'm a little timid in new situations. Because of this, I prefer to be around older children. I walk very well on a leash and know my commands, even a few in German. I am completely housebroken and love to sleep in my crate or dog bed but I do have a tendency to sneak on the furniture when no one is home...don't tell my foster! I am very energetic and full of life and if you have treats I will be your best friend. Are you my new family? I'm being fostered in Elon, NC! Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. ~~HI!!! My name is Prancer and I am three and the sweetest girl that you will ever meet. If there is an inherent GSD quality I probably have it! I’m really smart and once I open up all I want is lots of love. I’ve been through a lot in my life as my vet record shows, but I don’t let the ugly in my past hold me back and I have no medical issues now. The first couple of days with my foster dad I wouldn’t hop on any furniture because I was so shy. When I felt comfortable hopping on the sofa, my foster dad didn’t even mind. Now I cuddle almost every night when it’s bed time and on the sofa when I’m really tired. Furthermore, I’m the bomb in a crate and love to do work. I stay in the crate while my human is at work, but if given proper guidelines I would do well out. I have been trusted in the whole place for a short period of time like two to three hours. One third of my food is used for treats. I always hear my foster dad say, "The food drive is strong with this one!", whatever that's supposed to mean. I know "sit" and "down" and am working on "stand". I know my name and can do a pretty good stay and recall if properly motivated. Tugs are really cool and I LOVE a ball. I’m a chewer and a nibbler if you grab my paws, but I don't nibble hard. Did I mention that swimming is kind of my thing too? In case you didn’t know, I have super powers, such as not trying to act like a human, and not barking at everything. With all of that I still have a kryptonite: vacuums. I just feel like they are on this planet to harm you so I will defend you by scaring it into submission. I like all of human kind, but if I meet a dog, it better know from the start that I'm in charge. I would do well with no dogs or a very submissive male and very structured introductions. I’ve learned that they are just objects in the surroundings so I don’t go looking for any kind of fight. My foster trusts me to drag a leash, and when around distractions, a longer lead for a little extra security. With good work and time I would be great off leash, but still need time to get things just perfect. Turns out I question why foster dad wants me to come back to him every now and then so I take my time or ignore him to smell the flowers. Overall I stay pretty close to my foster dad, but am still pretty independent. When I get food in a bowl I know I’m not supposed to rush you or the bowl until you say it’s ok for me to eat. In all, I am a beautiful shepherd that would do well with a new shepherd owner or even an experienced one. I’m middle of the road in energy or maybe even a little lower. By the way, I'm 5’ 6” , have black and tan hair and love long walks on the beach… Wait, wrong website! If you think you can offer me my furever home, please work with your adoption coordinator or fill out an application at southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com. I'm being fostered in Greenville, NC. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi! My name is Toby. I'm a 3 year old 80 pound happy, happy, happy boy. My foster mom likes to call me goofy because I love attention and like to bring her things to show her how much I like her. I am housebroken, crate trained and love dogs and people of all sizes. My foster mom thinks I would be best in a home with older kids and bigger dogs because I am mouthy and am not aware of my size. I still think I'm a lap dog and might accidentally knock a little one over. Because I'm so submissive, I get along great with my fur siblings, who are also German Shepherds: two males and one female. I like my ball and other toys, too, but my favorite thing is food. I mean, who doesn't like food?! Thanks to the nice man at Blue Line K9 Training, I have basic obedience training and have been taught not to bark at cars. He also helped to calm me down when I meet other dogs because I get so excited when I have the opportunity to make new friends. I also know how to sit and heel and have very good recall. I LOVE car rides but will need a family that will continue to enforce what I've learned in training. My ideal family would be active and take me places even if only for several daily walks. My foster mom is so impressed that I don't even try to get on the furniture, although she invites me to sit on it. She is not so impressed that I like to counter surf, but we are working on it. I mean, nobody's perfect, right? Think you could be my furever family? If so, please work with your adoption coordinator or complete an app at southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com. I am being fostered near Fayetteville, NC. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Age: Senior
    Location: Morrisville, NC
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Prue is a sweet, loving, playful, 7-years-young country girl. She joined SGSR after the sudden death of her owner. She was lost and scared at first, but with love and patience, she came out of her shell. Prue lived in the country and is used to having free roam to hunt and chase squirrels. So Prue has a high prey drive and should not be with cats. She is learning not to chase cats but needs to be redirected quickly before the chase starts. A squeaky toy or ball works wonderful. Prue is learning leash manners, and she enjoys walks but is nervous with the traffic. Out in the country, she didn't have traffic and was rarely on a leash. Prue corrects easily and is eager to please her people. She loves to ride, knows a few commands (“sit", “no", “down"), is great with people and good with other dogs. Prue loves cuddling on the couch or enjoys sleeping in the bed with her people. If you would like to make Prue part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. Or, if you’re not yet approved to adopt and in VA, NC or MD, you can find our adoption application at our website (be sure the read the FAQ section). Prue is being fostered in Virginia Beach, VA. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hi, I would like to introduce myself - my name is Ruby Roo. I am a beautiful female, owner surrender German Shepherd. I came with the name Roo, so my foster mom and dad decided since I responded to that, to keep that as part of my name and came up with Ruby Roo. I am a very cuddly and snuggly dog. My foster mom tells me I don't seem to know how big I am. Even though I only weight 52 lbs., my favorite place to be is in her lap or my foster dad's lap. Who said a big dog couldn't be a lap dog? I am very treat motivated and do well on a leash. My foster dad thinks that I will learn commands very quickly since I am so treat motivated. I do know that I love the snow, and love to run around in it. I have a fur dog sibling that I don't really pay much attention too, they say I am kind of indifferent to her. I do know though that I will chase cats so I probably should not have any of those as fur siblings. I love to follow my foster mom and dad around, wherever they go, I go too! I don't want them to get too far away from me. For right now, I am kept in a crate at night, I go in very willingly, and I never say a peep until the morning. Sad to say, I don't really know what toys are, I haven't ever had any, but they seem to squeak and bounce, so maybe I might try to like them! I am a little nervous at first, but once I see that everything is OK, I become very comfortable and make myself at home! I am being fostered in Durham, NC. If you are interested in adopting me, please contact your adoption coordinator, or fill out an application at www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.com. You must live in NC, VA or MD to adopt me. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .
