Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Golly was found on a business parking lot in the Tomball area. Apparently she was dumped; she stayed there for days, as if she was waiting for someone to come back and get her. But sadly, no one came. Golly is a friendly senior girl who still has a lot of pep in her step. She loves balls and likes to carry one around with her. She enjoys car rides and likes to sit beside you and be petted. She does not like small dogs. Unfortunately, Golly's previous owner must not have given her any heart worm preventative because she tested positive but now she has successfully completed heart worm treatment. Golly is a sweet girl and deserves to have a loving family to call her own during her senior years. Approximate birthdate: February 2008. Estimated weight: 50 lbs. If you would like to meet Golly, please call or text Stephanie at 281-622-6549.

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Chip

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Chiweenie
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Chip and his 3 siblings were owner surrendered to Emmy's Hope Rescue at five weeks of age, along with their parents. Chip quickly found a family that wanted to adopt him but after only a short time, he jumped out of the man's arms, fracturing his front leg. When his broken leg required expensive surgery and a lengthy recovery, the family returned Chip to Emmy's Hope Rescue. Little Chip made a complete recovery and you would never know he had leg surgery. He was soon adopted by a second family and settled in nicely with another little dog, that became his playmate and companion. But just shy of a year, Chip's human mama got a new job that required long hours and travel, so again Chip was returned to Emmy's Hope. Shortly after being returned to the Rescue, Chip began favoring and licking the leg that he had broken as a puppy. He was taken back to the vet that performed the surgery and it was determined that he is allergic to the metal implants that were used to repair his fracture. Presently, we are taking donations to raise the funds needed to surgically remove the implants in Chip's right leg. Chip is shy and cautious in new situations and when he first meets a unknown human. He is well behaved and good in the house and does well with a buddy / companion dog. He plays well with other small dogs, likes cats and loves to be with his special humans. Chip has waited a long time to find his special FOREVER family. Estimated birth date: August 2015 Approximate weight: 13 lbs. If you would like to meet Chip, please call or text Stephanie at 281-622-6549. *** ADOPTION CRITERIA *** YOU MUST: 1. Live in the Houston area (no more than an hour's drive away). 2. Be 21 years or older. 3. Have a fenced yard. 4. Have at least 2 years of good vet history, with current and / or past pets, including: annual Rabies and DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza) vaccinations, annual heart worm test and using a monthly heartworm preventative.

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Happy has been in and out of several homes since he was a tiny puppy. His first owner listed him on Craigslist. His third owner found him wearing the second owner's ID tags, but they did not want him anymore. Happy was surrendered to Emmy's Hope Rescue because his last family was moving out of the country and could not take him. Happy is good with cats and he likes to run and play outside with other little dogs his size. When playtime is over and he is called inside, he comes right away. He is very good about going back inside his kennel, in fact he considers it his safety zone. Happy enjoys being petted but does not really like to sit in your lap but rather prefers sitting beside you. Little Happy is hoping that one day he will find a stable family that will love and keep him forever. Estimated birthdate - Jan. 2012. Estimated weight - 12 lbs. Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Bojangles was found running down the edge of Hwy. 105, wearing a thick chain tightly around his neck, dragging a smaller tie-out chain behind him. The chain around his neck was so tight; it had to be cut off. It seems that Bojangles may have had very little socialization with other dogs prior to being rescued. He craves human attention, loving to crawl into your lap and be petted. He is learning how to socialize and be appropriate with other dogs. He particularly dislikes big male dogs and prefers female dogs. He would probably do best in a home where he would be the only dog or, maybe another female dog. No first time dog owners please. Bojangles will need an experienced dog owner who has the time and patience to work with him. Estimated birthdate: August 2013 Approximate weight: 23 lbs. Breed: Dachshund-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). It is suspected that little Donny was dumped because as in similar cases, he stayed in the same spot, waiting and hoping his owner would come back to get him. Several animal lovers noticed Donny hiding under some bushes at a McDonalds in the Cypress area. A few people tried unsuccessfully to lure him out of the bushes. He was very scared and always ran away whenever someone tried to approach him. One lady would drive through the McDonalds on her way to work every morning and buy Donny a small hamburger. This went on for over a week, before a rescuer set a trap late one night and caught him. Donny is now safe at Emmy's Hope Rescue. Donny loves to run and play with other dogs and he is good around cats. He is a little shy the first time he meets a new human but then very friendly and playful. He is young and full of energy and would do well with a family of kids. Estimated birthdate: February 2016 Approximate weight: 15 lbs. If you are interested in meeting Donny, please text or call Stephanie at: 281-622-6549. *** CRITERIA for adopting from EHR*** YOU MUST: 1. Be 21 years or older. 2. Have a fenced yard. 3.
